I agree that the 4Kids changes were dumb, but i can undersatdn why they'd use their names, because 4Kids' version had been out in the US longer than Viz's and was pretty popular.

Yeah, I guess you're right. But UM wasn't too popular though…

What series are they editing guns in?
They took out #17's gun in the last DBZ chapter serialized in US Jump.
I don't mind Viz's adaptation of One Piece (which I find adequate and even surprisingly well done at points, despite the lack of "language" and the "zolo" thing), but I'll be damned if I ever forgive them for promising us Mr. Satan and no pointless edits, then going back on both.
Needless to say, I'm done with their version of DB (I have the entire Japanese version, anyway), but I don't mind buying their OP adaptation. And if anybody wants some cheap Viz DBZ volumes, I'd be happy to sell 'em. (volumes 1-17, first 10 are the original edition).

I thought so! You remember that letter page thing where the kid asked if they would keep Mr.Satan's name, and they said they WOULD?
Man, you don't censor a series when your 31 VOLUMES IN.

They kept it, technically. While he was referred to as Mr. Satan, it was only made out to be a nickname from his old days.
-
I can see one good reason why. When they are gona release Jojo's Bizare Adventure, they're changing Jotaro's name to Roku and all kinds of crap has to be re-drawn 'cause it's too violent for america.

**it wasn't? I thought it did pretty well. Maybe I heard wrong…probably the best thing on THE FOXBOX!!!!11 for a while, though.
**According to what I have read in the past from a popular Kinnikuman site:
Yeah, the anime did pretty well in the U.S. I guess. It did well enough to get more episodes in the U.S. The anime version originally ended in Japan on those episodes where they fought that group with the frog guy, the butt guy, and later the magician guy and stuff. However, more episodes were ordered for the U.S. Foxbox thing…so they continued the story up to Kid Muscle vs. Kevin Mask (but I think the ending of the fight was changed for the anime, since it was ending after that episode).
Japan also got the episodes but the name was changed to like "Kinnikuman: Ultimate Muscle" or something (they added the U.S. "Ultimate Muscle" part to it). So, if the information I've read is correct, then the anime continued longer than it was going to thanks to its popularity on Foxbox.
I still wish they kept the Japanese names for the translated manga though....

Well, yeah, I do too of course (come on, "Dik Dik Van Dik"?), but I could see the logic in going with 4Kids' names.
