I'm still baffled as to how the first managed to scrape $215 million. I wouldn't mind Hollywood's stripmining if the stuff actually came out decent, but no~
God dammit, look at this.

There wont be nearly as big of a "WTF!" moment as when the first one was announced with that… poster...
-
I'm about ready to dismember someone.
-
Haha I think the 2nd one would end up being better if the Chipettes were in it. The Chipmunk Adventure Movie was 'da best'.
-
Did any of you guys actually SEE the first one? It was a really fun movie, and faithful to boot.

Like hell it was. That movie ruined the Chipmunks, they became rappin' pimps, which would appeal to all the 'gangster kids' and 'chavs' - It should have hearkened back to the old cartoons where they were INNOCENT! Obviously kids today are born to be obsessed with sex and rap music… GOD I HATE THAT MOVIE

…I wonder if you're serious, so for now, I'll assume you are. I'll also assume from what you're saying, that you have NOT seen the movie, and are judging it almost entirely on that first poster.
First off, the Chipmunks have always been continuously modernized over the 40-some years they've been around. They started off doing fun little folk songs in the 60's, were doing rock during their revival in the 80's, and now did some hip-hop today. It's just the way they work.
But you know what, had you actually watched the movie, you might have realized that the Chipmunks didn't like doing the hip-hop act. The sleazebag, money-grubbing douche manager they ended up with for a portion of the movie essentially forced them to do all that, and they hated it. They wished they were back with Dave, singing the fun, happy songs he wrote for them (including
).That was the entire focus of the movie; that the Chipmunks were innocent. They were NOT, despite the antagonist's best efforts, "gangster kids and chavs" (I have no idea what that second one even means), and they and Dave DID "hearken back to the old cartoons where they were innocent." At the end of the movie, they were right back where they belonged. With Dave, making music, and getting into trouble.

Yea we get enough of that from Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers & all those other annoying kids.

I've taken into account what you've said, and I must admit, I was being a bit hasty - I'm just not in a good mood today.
I have seen the movie, and I was just concentrating on the modernizing aspect, and you're right - times change, but I just cannot get used to this hip-hop rubbish - even if it is a plot device, sorry. I'm still no fan of the film, either way…
Oh, and about 'chavs'- you'd only really get it straight away if you lived in the UK - They're basically rebellious youths, that's all. Often to the extreme (Knife crime, etc.)
And WTF, how could I spell 'Hearkened' wrong, I'm getting an A* in my English GCSEs! XD
EDIT: And okay, some of the songs were catchy, I must admit :p

Haha, okay. We all have bad days.
Yeah, the Hip-Hop-ization (which I don't really like either; I'm more a Classic Rock guy myself) of the Chipmunks was kind of expected, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how it was handled, what with the munks themselves being opposed to it. I thought it was kind of obvious, but perhaps not.

@bunshindattebayo:
Now THAT would be awesome.

no that would be worse

Second The Black Guy.
-
Dammit, they never learn their lessons until the sequels bomb
-
Two words- Mulan II.

I had only thought badly of the first because of the teaser poster with them dressed up like old school rappers. I thought they were trying to change the way they were all together (though it probably would have been awfully hilarious, or just really funny if made to be a joke.). I haven't seen the first one but it doesn't look that bad…
