I still think you're all going on about nothing. There's a time and place for everything, and in the bigger picture there's a reason why more important characters are getting the spotlight now.
Franky getting little spotlight?

Well said! OP isn't driven by some personal political correctness, characters get the spotlight when they need to, not when someone else just did, or whatever.

This is true it's just hard to take one side, since there is a character that people love and others they just like, but it's hard to say "take a back seat, champ!". Still I'd love to see Franky taking over a saga for a bit as second in command, but I'd like to see a Usopp saga too, lol. That's just one fan's thought and Oda-sama is doing better from where he was, still it wasn't bad just slow.

Prediction:
Fishman Island Arc:
Luffy/Zoro/Franky/Chopper
I disagree with you on the most part.
You forgot Buggy's arc, missing out on Luffy and Nami. Alabasta was NOT just about those three. Zoro cutting steel, Nami coming into her own, Usopp proving himself, Chopper helping. I'd at least add Zoro, Nami, and Usopp to that list. Zoro? No. Just because of the bar fight, I'd beg to differ. Skypiea, Nami? Maybe, but Robin and Chopper should belong up there, maybe Zoro too. The huge history lesson was good for Robin development and Chopper is the only character to not only fight one or two Priests but THREE. Even though he only won once. If you are gonna include Zoro in Thriller Bark, might as well include Chopper and Usopp seriously. Zoro was behind even them in character development. Newbies aside, Sanji is the one lacking screen time. Gone in Little Garden, gone for a good chunk of Alabasta, most of Skypiea, half of Water 7, incapacitated for a time in Enies Lobby. :\
Seeing as Robin and Franky and Brook just had their arcs, I'd assume that Chopper, Sanji, and Nami might take some charge this arc.
-
thats the problem with a big crew. If everyone get equal screen time then someone else will complain the story is getting draggy. And, Brook is redundant.
-
I think the person who needs development is chopper. he's less developed then he was when we first met him. He's switched spots with ussop pretty much, except in doing so he's become my least favorite. Honestly, I don't like chopper at all, but all he needs to do for me to like is not be scared and own like in Arabasta and Drum. I'd say if he took down Bepo I'd like as much as I used to (alot).
-
…
He owned Gedatzu and Kumadori pretty good. Why you did not count them...
Also he got development in Thriller Bark in the whole Hogback deal.
-
I don't think Chopper vs. Gedatsu counts, cause he was very incompetent…
But Kumadori's fight was pretty interesting.Anyway, I have to agree, Chopper really really needs improvement.
-
The only time you find people complaining about lack of development of a character or screen time is when it is their favorite character. I think everyone is getting fine time. I never think "where the hell is so and so" or man he did nothing this arc.
And about Robins ability being broken. in how she either quickly dispatches them or not being able to. Um isn't her specialty as she put it assassination. Fits that pretty perfectly. Assassins strike once and deadly.
-

Chopper needs improvement on what. he isn't trying to be a great fighter. Do you want to see him sitting in his office all day smooshing together ingredients for medicine.
We saw some great chopper and how he believes and stuff with the cindry hogback.
the only people that will have any type of improvement made a big deal out of fighting is gonna be luffy and zoro, and maybe some with Usopp. But that is gonna be more about him becoming brave vs becoming some pimp fighter.
the rest are gonna keep doing what they do and beat their oppenents and what not.
-
Well sudden midair stair-building was very great move doh… shame, hope next over newst arc is bigger show of him. But i think its Sanjis time...
-
I think Franky's still in the new guy stage. I mean he still calls everyone but Robin by nicknames, like she did when she first joined. When he starts calling them by their names he'll be a full fledged member and get more screentime (panel time?)
-
maybe callign them by nicknames is how his character is. And just doesn't call robin by that because what would you call her.
-
that could be true, that he's not really a full fledged member, but I don't think that he'll get more screen time when he finally calls Luffy Captain.
-
He is a full fledged member. Not every has to have a Robin breakthrough…dont you know a person that usually only calls you by your last name? Thats sorta like this
-
I don't find it a big deal. Oda has 9 main characters at this point, but he still manages to give them their time and make us love em without things seeming too crowded. Something other manga artists (like Kishimoto) can't do with more than 3.
-
I don't think Chopper vs. Gedatsu counts, cause he was very incompetent…
But Kumadori's fight was pretty interesting.Anyway, I have to agree, Chopper really really needs improvement.
The hell?!?
First off, how was he incompetent? Second off, even if he was which he wasn't, a win's a win. That fight was great development. It was his first solo win and the first time he truly accepted that he was a pirate.
-
his trial had a 50 % survival rate and the others had under 10%
so compared to them he's kinda incompetent.
-
Yeah, he was hurting himself more than Chopper was. Insert weak OP character here could beat Gedatsu.
-
Chopper beat the guy by taking off his damn shoe. Cmon, now…
Anyway, on topic: Franky has been getting screentime since Enies Lobby, it's just subtle since Brooke has joined the picture. Once this arc winds down, we'll see less Brooke and more of all the Strawhats. I mean, Oda makes sure that each strawhat gets screentime in every chapter, but he focuses most on the character that recently joined.
-
So even Nami back then could beat Gedatsu? Also I am sure that all the strawhats will get their fair share of screentime.
-
I think a lot of the time limit for many of the characters, the new ones in particular, is the result of having so many main characters all at once. Oda is having to create interactions for 9 major characters, soon to be 10, and many times the interactions will be small.
This problem is found is both big time works and small time works all over the world. :P -
Oh please, the Gedatsu fight was awesome.
And incompetent or not, he was a powerful foe that drove Chopper to his limits.
What's really important about that fight is the development it gave him. He stopped relying on others and relied on himself for once accepting that he was a man who has to risk his life for his dreams.
-
So even Nami back then could beat Gedatsu?
Nami would have been too much a challenge for Gedatsu.
-
Nami would have been too much a challenge for Gedatsu.
Totally agreed.
Gedatsu fight was comically great, but wasn't much of a challenge. -
Chopper BARELY managed to win.
Gedatsu could have OTK'd him with a single punch.
It was a very challenging fight.
-
For a scaredy cat animal who is usually too busy shitting his pants to fight, you're right.
Aww, you made me be mean to Chopper.
-
I dunno. I think Chopper, like Robin is more of an intelligance fighter, he uses his brain to beats em. Although I do think he should have more fights, like Robin and Nami doesn't need to rely on them, unlike say…..Zoro whom...well...take away his fights is pointless.
