Well I've read that the August issue of Jump has three chapters of Bleach and One Piece and they're finally printing the winning entries of that Devil Fruit contest from months ago.

Why the fuck is Naruto even ON that cover as the feature or even at all? Isn't this just the debut issue with interviews and articles? I have the debut issue, Naruto isn't in it. Did they break their own fucking history just so they could make more sells and put the first chapter of Naruto in it?
No. They're actually not trying to break their history. Shonen Jump is already promoting interviews and such from numerous other magazines to be included. So its not just the debut issue. Its the debut issue and MORE. The magazine was advertised in the August SJ, and it says this:
"Collected in this edition is all the manga from the very first issue of SHONEN JUMP, published in December 2002, - plus the first chapter of Naruto, the biggest manga sensation ever**, which originally appeared in the second issue of SHONENJUMP!**
You'll also find feature stories from the first five years of SHONEN JUMP, including Japanese lessons, manga puzzles, and rare interviews with great manga creators such as Masashi Kishimot(Naruto), Tite Kubo (Bleach), and Eiichiro Oda (One Piece)!"
So, no. They're not greedy sell outs. This was never even intended to be a sole reprint of the debut issue to begin with. It's just the One Piece fandom being whineasses again and hating on Naruto again for no real reason.

Tonight I went to barnes and Nobles to get gun blaze west vol.2 and air gear 3. But the y only had naruto vol.30 from the volumes from viz that our supposed to come out this month viz always does that why?
I doubt anyone could do anything to stop a US release of Naruto. It was just too big in Japan to not ignore and put in the magazine, as was the same for OP and Shaman King. (Bleach was still semi-unknown at the time so that got a pass until they started the individual volume releases) It is always going to be a hoaring matter: heck, remember that DB (which actually started the Cell arc in those issues since Vegeta and Frieza were already done in their stand-alone comics), YGO and YYH were already known in the US when they got in that first issue so that was promotion too.
As for their mention of Franky…well no one probably reads those Animerica pamphlets...not to mention if a kid looks hard enough online, they'll know that there's a lot more to the story past Alabasta. (which Viz had to struggle to get to anyway) Heck, next thing you know, they'll start introducing rumors of living skeletons.
Im sure all one piece american fans knows about Franky now.With the new game and all.And american fans prbly know a little bit of information about one piece past Skypeia.its obviouse for them anyways.

I wish One Piece will go bimonthly due to its length, but I doubt it will be next year, seeing as hiw if Viz keeps up the 3-4 volume per year thing, 2009 will neatly wrap up Alabasta.

I actually don't really mind the pace at the moment considering by the end of 2009 the Strawhats will already be in Skypeia. It could be a lot worse. It's basically getting the same treatment as Bleach, which actually in reality isn't that bad. Naruto is going to have a problem sooner or later though. Although the US issue is keeping up with Japan with around 4 or 5 chapters a month and 2 months for a volume, the volume production in Japan is a lot slower than that, so sooner or later they're going to run into a problem with issuing out the volumes. Also, if Oda decides to take a couple weeks off, eventually its all going to catch up, and the US SJ is going to be in quite a jam.

I don't know what's going on with the Bleach volumes in America, but the next volume of One Piece comes out on October 7th. That's about a 4 month wait. Viz apparently noticed the popularity of Alabasta and is trying to drag it out to make more money. Understandable, if annoying. As to the magazine (which is halfway through volume 19 around now), at a rate of about 30-35 chapters a year, and about 25 more chapters to go for Alabasta, I'd say the magazine should reach Jaya around January or February 2009. That's pretty far from Skypiea.
Naruto is going to have a problem sooner or later though. Although the US issue is keeping up with Japan with around 4 or 5 chapters a month and 2 months for a volume, the volume production in Japan is a lot slower than that, so sooner or later they're going to run into a problem with issuing out the volumes. Also, if Oda decides to take a couple weeks off, eventually its all going to catch up, and the US SJ is going to be in quite a jam.
Or they could just focus on series that aren't One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach.
Personally, I still say they oughta have 3 chapters of those three in every issue, and two of everything else in the issue. Then give cover and one bonus chapter to one series per-issue in a rotation. E.g. one month One Piece gets 4 chapters and cover, the next month Bo-bo-bo gets 3 chapters and cover, then the next month Naruto gets 4 chapters and cover, etc. But apparently Viz's marketing executives have decided that giving a decent amount of attention to all series' in the magazine isn't as profitable as focusing on 2 or 3. Stupid capitalism…
You'll just have to live with it. The faster Viz runs through Naruto the better, yes?

If Viz were to release the rest of Naruto tomorrow and put the series on a 3 year hiatus until they released the next volume, it STILL wouldn't make up for One Piece getting volumes of Alabasta released quarterly. 3 months I can understand, since things in the magazine take longer for a volume's worth of chapters to come out. It's the price paid for the popularity and exposure gained from being in the magazine. But 4 month intervals between volumes when Viz could (theoretically, I know it could never happen) release one volume of One Piece per month and still take approximately 3.5 years to catch up to the Japanese volumes… well, it smarts a bit.
It takes time to translate those chapters and most of their teams do multiple titles.
As for four months, they don't like it when chapters from one volume are in the same issue as chapters from another.

Firstly, I did say "theoretically". I know it can't happen for marketing reasons. But really, with translators on MangaHelpers being able to translate a chapter within 3 or 4 hours of getting the RAW, I'm pretty sure an official company could manage one volume in a month. Since they'd have more translators, more time to do it, since it's their job, and they're paid for it. Multiple titles? Carlos Net translates about 4 series from Weekly Jump. He manages to get each week's chapter done the day the RAW is released. I really think an official company could manage the same thing.
And about the chapters from one volume in the same issue as another thing, I know that. But that applies to the magazine. I'm talking about 4 months between the releases of the volumes. Why does the magazine affect that? That shouldn't slow the volume's completion down by much.

For all we know dozens of chapters are already in the can at Viz but because they have a set scheduel–I would assume it costs a lot to put out multiple books--they are not likely to fast track One Piece more so then they have. Maybe if One Piece fans would support the release they'd be more inclined to release the volumes quicker. At least with Naruto they know they have younger fans who don't steal from them off the internet.

Hey, I'd buy the Viz manga in a heartbeat if my parents would let me. As it is, I'm gonna try to start my collection with the first 2 volumes tonight, but I doubt my parents will let me bring them to the checkout counter. I always said let Viz keep up their Naruto fapping. They're basically caught up to Japan, soon Naruto will have nothing to do but wait.

^What he said. Besides, even if they DID somehow manage to catch up, they'd just have to slow down their releases to… well, the pace they're going at now, and they'd be fine. I actually think catching up completely would be a GOOD thing, as that would more or less make scanslations obsolete. (Or, not really, seeing how there are plenty of fans OUTSIDE America as well... Me being one of them.)
The last issue of JUMP finished up material from volume 31 (due out September). Volume 32 is due out in November and 33 is due out December 23.

I agree with this. If they can't release OP montly or bimonthly, at least release it ever three months.
Partially, the release of one piece manga is directly affected by its popularity and profit. It seems that when an anime is out in America, to non-anime fans, that is the only real anime that matters (Naruto) Plus, they wanted to get through the Save Sasuke Arc as fast as possible to get to the time skip. They knew the books were gonna sell because thats a popular arc, and they had a goal after the tri-manga per month releases. Even if they started doing manga every two months or even monthly, they're not confident in One Piece's popularity and they dont really have a certain place in the manga as a goal. I'd be happy with either mid or end of Skypeia arc (I'm a little greedy, so sue me) Hell, every friend of mine that I've talked to that likes anime or not falls in love with Naruto and/or Bleach, but if i mention OP even once, they look at me weird and so "its not for me" I ask them when they saw it and if it was subbed or dubbed. THe instant they say last spring and dubbed I scream, "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!" and shake my fist in the air. Fans new to OP are still affected by 4kids. Its dreadfully depressing to say this, but OP doesnt have the same influence in the US as it does in Japan or any other country. We're a ninja country I guess. (Sorry to hate on Naruto but its hard not to when this subject comes up)
In one of their interviews they said it was important to them to have the manga be ahead of the anime. That alone told me One Piece has no chance so just give it up people.

I agree. DBZ at least was entertaining despite it always having the same save the world plot each arc. You can't really say that for Naruto though especially with everything part 2 has done to the series. If Part 2 was better. It'd be different.

As far as the bi monthly release goes. I went to Viz's website and filled out one of their suggestion forms politely requesting that One Piece should get a bimonthly release for many of the reasons that have been said in this thread by me and other people who want it. I doubt it'll do anything but it's the thought that counts. I agree though that the bi monthly release would be best. Considering how long it's gonna take if they keep going the rate they are.
As I see it, its time for Viz to cut their losses, dump OP from the magazine and start with some other series they want to pimp instead. Outside us in the rabid, insane OP fanbase, no one really cares about the series. Every dub has been ignored, even the redo by Funi, and Viz rather pimp their own series that they own anime rights too (Naruto, Bleach, Death Note) than what is considered the biggest gun in the magazine in Japan. If they were smart (which I doubt), they would just remove OP, give the fans what they want in bimonthly manga, then put something else with massive potential in the magazine to boast or promote. (like, say, Reborn)
it would be cool to see Reborn! in monthly jump, and plus they can start after the first 7 volumes and get straight to the Mukuro arc or even further like the Vongola Ring arc.

If it gets such good treatment, then why does it seem so hard for Viz to give it the respect it deserves? They hyped it up when the 4Piece dub came out, but then it died down when they got Naruto, Bleach and DN and made them the massive monsters they are while OP became…well, a smaller monster with no respect due to horrible dubbers and bad luck. (CN pulling the Funi dub) Unless a miracle happens, I rather just see OP go bimonthly and Viz use their Jump pages for something they can start pushng as their next big property...whether its the greatest or crappiest manga ever. (and currently I just see Reborn being it since Kokuyo starts this month and they have the first Vongola Ring volume slated for January...not to mention its one of the biggest series in Japan after the "big three" and alongtime series such as D.Gray & Gintama)

Not really. Viz releases in three or four month patterns. The more in each volume the longer the wait.

In the era of Viz Communications, only "super popular" manga or manga that were personal favourites of the Viz staff got licensed. At its peak EToP was just one more collectible part of the Pokemon franchise so it once sold very well.
OP has the advantage of being long, meaning that the longer it goes on the greater the chance it'll be more popular…but being long has some downsides as well (intimidation).
Most of the series Viz picked up from that era were of pretty much either established series in the states (DB, Tenchi, Evangelion) or their bread-and-butter (all the Rumiko Takahashi works which they pretty much owned all rights to in anime and manga…outside Animeigo getting the UY anime) Somehow I wish that it was the "Pokemon Adventures" series that got the promotion in the US instead of "Electric Tales of Pikachu"...but that followed the anime so that's probably why.

That's up to Funimation. Viz can't release anything One Piece related expect the Manga which is another reason they don't put any heavy focus on it like Bleach and Naruto.

Water 7 was murder to follow week-by-week, at least once Enies Lobby started. I'd say OP should drop out of Jump and never come back, at least with a bi-monthly release the story can catch up to Skypiea and be consistent with the episodes FUNimation is releasing.

I don't see how that could even apply. The most popular manga get bi-mothly releases - normally one would think leaving the magazine is a good thing for all parties concerned.
I still want OP to leave the magazine but the biggest problem is in regards to image. Compare a OP who leaves the magazine and goes bi-monthly…to a manga that gets a ton of chapters in the monthly Jump and is pretty much a bi-monthly release in the volumes as well. (sort of obvious what I'm talking about)
