Will you buy the Funimation One Piece Season 1 box set?
-
-
Oh, quick note, since people WILL want to know this(was an issue of curiosity last I remember).
Buggy is deeefintiely using flashy in his dialog. XD Heard it twice in this one episode (5).
EDIT: I take the two times comment back, I'm hearing it more and more as I go on. XD

But I don't want you guys think I'm massively complaining and I'm ungrateful. I'm over Zorro, and I'm actually finding myself pronouncing it like that sometimes. I do think it's a big fault that FUNi took the sound effects out of We Are but it's not a big deal, none of the other openings have sfx so I guess it works out.
But I think it's silly you go "wah wah" when this is a discussion forum and kinda the entire point, I might as well say "wah wah" right back to ya. Also, we complained plenty during the 4kids era so we should be able to complain about a few things now without getting ripped on.
As for the second DVD set, I see Sanji, Krieg and Mihawk attacking so that makes me thing it's gonna be (keeping with the 13 episodes): episodes 14-26. Which would mean the 3rd set would end with Zoro fighting Hatchi at episode 39.

My mom had to take my little bro to his open house…. :getlost:
I am so ordering this when she gets home. -
Open house at this time of the year?
-
It's funny, a lot of us are ordering today. xD
-
@Yuugi's:
Zoro, although there's no accent on the 'ro'.
as long as its Zoro, thats fine
I wanted it to be Zoro anyways -

I know, I was like WTF!?
Anyways, DVD review of some ungrateful little b*tch at rightstuf
Monkey D. Luffy - Apr 26 2008
Rating: This sucked!
Too expensive for the price.
At $50 a pop, they better be putting 26 eps per boxset, not 13! With over 300 episodes and more than 8 movies, buying the series will cost over $1500! That is way too much, for so little. You can get 'several' anime series for the cost of just this alone. Funimation needs to think about packaging this better, or it won't do so well, and this is coming from someone that wants the series -

EXACTLY! Would he rather have NO ONE PIECE, NOT UNCUT, OR WORSE, THE 4SHAME DUB!
-
Wai are those the only options, Mr. Spinning Cat?
-

Somehow, I doubt that. I like those quotes, too. It seems even the reviewer knows what he's saying is hyperbole.
-
but he's breakdancing….
All I could think of on the spot. I suppose you have any options mr. Villanous human cat?
-
How about a DVD set with a sound effx
KABLAM
-
I'm not to sure of when we'll have our review up. I'm personally hoping James will do it as he did the movie and he also has no prior knowledge of the series so it'd be fun to see what a first time–well second--time viewer has to say.
-
Few more voice list to keep track of(hopefully someone took the new ones XD).
ChouCHou: Christopher Bevins.
Mayor Boodle: Mike Stoddard.Oh, and a quick tidbit, since I haven't seen it mentioned yet.
Official word on Luffy: He's gonna kick Buggy's ass.
No clobbering for him. XD

Hopefully Funi doesn't go too overboard with the language.
To tell you the truth, I actually enjoy harsher language without the actually cursing.EXAMPLE: Instead of Sanji saying, "If you touch that food I'm going to &*ck you up".. he could say "If you touch that food I'm going to tare your legs off."
No profanity, yet still, if not more intense.
But I'm sure Funi did fine, just like in Movie 8
-
Since this is being discussed on three separate threads I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but as far as extras are concerned….
The "staff commentary" only covers the first episode. It's Mike McFarland, Colleen Clinkenbeard, and Christopher Sabat.
There are also textless songs on disc two - "We Are" and "Memories"
-
SABAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is going to be full of win! Anybody kind enough to upload a little bit of the begining of the commentary?
-
Oh man, Chris was funnier then hell on the YYH commentary. This is going to be worth it.
-
Finished the first disc! Woot!
A note on Cabaji's voice, back when we first heard it, I remember people saying it was too "High' or something like that. Well people's wishes for him to sound more sinister comes true. Greg Ayres deepens his voice a bit and adds a more mature tone to it, making the fight with Zoro quite awesome. XD
And another fear that's definitely null now: Zoro said Oni Giri, and not demon slash. =P So the attacks with these DVD's will probably be more or less untranslated.
Quick tidbits, Mato was one of two translators for this release.
-Zera
-
How is Chuck Huber's Mohji?
-
It was quite good! Fit every situation quite well, from when he's pissed or having a comedy moment.
Out of the first disc, everything is done so damn well.
-Zera
-
OHH SNAP
Oni Giri <3
and Mato? Good ol' Chotto Mato helped translate this thing?
Awesome =] -
Where has Mato been lately, anyhow?
-
I'm gonna guess that he is just busy. Or got tired of all the stupid shit people have complained about.
-
How does Kaya's actress handle her voice? Those coughs of hers better sound good and seriously ill.
-
@EvilGamerX:
I'm gonna guess that he is just busy. Or got tired of all the stupid shit people have complained about.
Or he got tired of people not complaining, thought it was getting boring and uninteresting, then left.
-
If nobody else brings it up, I'll be sure to mention it asap once I get to that episode. Listening the commentary currently. XD
-Zera
-
Must. Have. Commentary!!!
What's funny is all three of them are voice directors.
-
What was funny about the commentary, is Sabat was definitely aware of the whole explosion of the fans when they found out his role in the show. Saying he tried his hardest to not sound like anything from Dragonball. He even went as far as jokingly saying "I'm the prince of all swordsmen!!" in his Vegeta voice. XD
Starting on disc two!
-Zera
-
"I'm the prince of all swordsmen!!" in his Vegeta voice. XD
That just made my day
sigh ^^ We haven't had this much excitement since the dub actually aired on Television.
-
-
^ Same here as well. I like I said Chris is funnier then hell on commentarys. I learn that from the final YYH episode commentary.
-
Another small list.
Kaya: Carrie Savage
Pepper: Cherami Leigh
Carrot: Kate Oxley
Onion: Cynthia CranzKaya's performance for the first episode she arrived in: Good! Definitely has the weakness in her voice for a sickly girl.

Everything he said was true. We are kinda getting ripped off on this, it's not a matter of being ungrateful but not bending over backwards just cause we actually ARE getting something.
-
Paused mid episode
Think of it this way, we're lucky Bandai isn't distributing it. For that I'm definitely grateful. =P
And a note on Kuro's voice: So sophisticated, yet so fierce! XD

We are kinda getting ripped off on this
Now I have seen some really, REALLY, stupid posts… but...
OK, 4 episodes on a DVD are normally around $20. So to get to even 12 eps, would normally be $60. In Japan, the early episodes for this series were 4 eps a DVD for like $40. Now they have 3 eps a DVD for that price. Sometimes 2 episodes for about $35. I don't think we are getting ripped off at all. The fans in Japan would probably love it if their DVDs were the same price as our release. We are getting lucky. Stop being such a spoiled git, and learn that this is a good deal. They do have to pay royalties and their own staff, so unfortunately they can't give it to you for whatever your heart desires. The world doesn't work like that numb nuts.
I will gladly lay down $50 for these sets.
-
You want to talk about rip-offs, Buhhan? Check the prices of the FLCL DVDs.
-
As would I, but other series are getting better treatment. Like Bleach, my local Wal-Mart is selling the first box set for $35 (so probably $50) and guess how many episodes that includes? Over 20. I realize these sets aren't a bad deal, but that doesn't mean it can't be a lot better. I respect the fact FUNi spends a fortune dubbing the episodes and need to make a profit, but that applies to other series too.
I'm not saying it's bad, but I am saying it's not great.
-
Just to add one more to the new VA appearance.
Jango - Kenny Green
All I can say about his voice. OH FUCKING LAWL!!!! XDD
I should ask an admin to add all that I've listed so far to the first page of the Funi Dub FAQ.

Well Walmart might just end up lowering the price for One Piece, who knows.
A quick look in other stores is showing that the Bleach boxset is priced quite high, so try not to hold Walmart's amazing savings against One Piece.
(From as high as over $100 to the next lowest price of around $48)
-
No Buuhan, Wal-mart just Slashes Prices. if They end up Carrying OP too, it'll be Rock Bottom as well.
Viz Sells Bleach at their Official Website for $89.95, And Everywhere BUT wal-mart Sells it for closer to that than 30, or even 50.
Just be glad you're not a HELLSING fan, One OVA is FIFTY TO SEVENTY DOLLARS FOR ME!! and it's ONE 35-50 minute Episode. -
Walmart's is the Devil. They kill communities, environments, and their employees who talk about unions.
Don't go thereGo to Target. Target has class <3

Cheaper sets like the Bleach and DBZ series have already proven themselves to be moneymakers. One piece has yet to prove itself to Funi. Good sales of the series may prompt them to release cheaper sets or even release full seasons of 26 episodes. Besides, $50 is merely the suggested retail price for the set. They'll be cheaper on the shelves of major retailers once the official release date arrives.
-
@Lobster:
Go to Target. Target has class <3
Yes, go Target!!
Sign pointing at me: She works at Target -
I know Wal-Mart slashed the price down. But did you not see where I said about it probably being $50 there? I'm not arguing this anymore.
Some people think it's a great deal, others think it could be better. Wanna continue this?
Also, from my experience Target generally doesn't have shit. Also Rin, it's your choice if you want to chuck out that kinda money for something like that. I personally wouldn't even if I was a fan.
-
No, Walmart SLASHES prices
so if Bleach Goes down to 35, OP would probabily be 25-30
Well, the US DVDs were 25-30 for the Reg, and 50 for the Limited, Not as much as the ones I buy (R2 Japanese)
but it's still about the same price as 13 eps of OP, and it's ONE EPISODE!! -
I know Wal-Mart slashed the price down. But did you not see where I said about it probably being $50 there?
We know. And even at $50, that was one of the better deals out there.
You're attempt at saying we're getting ripped off with One Piece has failed!
Mwahaha!!

I do agree that purchasing this series upon release is daunting considering how many could be released if certain financial barriers exist. It's really something that can't be helped. The best thing for these individuals to do would be to wait while for their prices to fall and pick them later.
People (Including myself) are just excited that the series is being released and want it to do well in sales.
