Well this sucks, I wonder what prompted this "boot" from CN. Oh well, this just means I have to get the DVD's instead.
E-Mail CN about their Canceling/Temp Removing of One Piece!!
-
-
Wouldn't recommend petitioning. Instead of signing a damn internet paper, just skip right to supplying an e-mail address and have everyone e-mail CN about it in a calm (I know we all wanna rage at them), respectful manner (I know, this too is also difficult).
It that was done for any of the other series that they cancelled then we can already assume that won't yield the desired results.
-
@Sandai:

Samurai Jack's creator didn't want to even bother continuing after the show got canned out of frustration. Teen Titan's staff ended up parting ways after the show got canned.
This is somewhat different since FUNi merely dubs and edits the show, while the others were mostly CN exclusive cartoons. Sailor Moon, on the other hand, happened to be around during a time where the internet boom was starting to pick up. Even during its syndicated cancelation, e-mailing was rather useless due to the fact that it wasn't a big thing to use back then.

It's hard to think that when they pull shit like this
uZUX5hzbcUw&
OkksoQ435Iw
Or to get to the Nitty Gritty
5w_bxivsPTc&
the fuck…... you proved your point ....you proved your point . I wonder why I used to like that shitty dub when I was younger.
-
Because of grown men/aliens beating the crap out of one another (or little kids and women), and firing energy blasts complete with stupid dialog, blatant edits, terrible music, and unnecessary name changes.
-
I changed my avatar to reflect the present situation. That's right, I broke my Eneljimbo chain of avatars. This is serious.
Holy shit I almost didnt recognize you! (If that makes any sense….)
BTW, your sig is full of win....
-
Im going to keep spamming emails to cartoon network untill I get a definitive answer from both sides of the spectrum. I want to hear about this in the Con. When is it anyway?
-
Today I believe…..I cant believe how screwed we actually got.....
-
We are not lying. CN told Ed they do not care to air it anymore, or however he worded it in his article. Karl's at Sakura Con so he's oing to hunt down FUNi for a comment.
At the least, we 'broke the story'.
-
We are going to "MAKE" Cn care!
-
I think its time we prepared for the worst….
Dubbing isnt cheap (especially if it's decent), and OP is a very long series (that's not even remotely finished, according to Oda), I dont think DVD sales alone can warrant Funi to keep going.
Too bad though, I guess we can kiss Unlimited Cruise goodbye....
-
Well, this makes me sad.
Well, for starters, let's wait for comment from Funi at the con. Then we should continue an e-mail campaign.
Read my sig. Bitching and whining is NOT going to contribute to anything.
-
Theres always a slim chance another network will pick One Piece up, just cause CN won't air it doesn't mean much. If both Funi and Toei still want to push it they can probably get another network on board.
-
(sigh) You guys have MUCH to learn with how t.v works. But screw words. No, no… At this point you guys just have to learn the hard way.
-

The question would be "what network"?
Cartoon Network is the major network that anime airs on in the US that most people have access to. So, we're probably still going to need to work with CN.
If it's any kind of silver lining to the cloud, back in 2000 (and please forgive me for the lack of details because this was a while ago) another of my favorite shows was canceled by Cartoon Network and was eventually brought back anyways - I think it was several months later or something. I don't recall the reason why if I even knew what it was. A friend of mine and I may or may not have e-mailed Cartoon Network or wrote letters or something.
All I ask is that if you decide to e-mail/snail-mail/call/send carrier pigeons to Cartoon Network, BE POLITE. BE INTELLIGENT. DO. NOT. WHINE.
By the way, does anyone here ACTUALLY have the money to buy the DVDs in bulk? Just buy them an encourage other people to do the same.
-
Regardless of weither CN has permanently canned the show or is in renegotiations with Funi or Toei, or is waiting for new episodes OR whatever the fuck is going on- it doesn't spell the end of One Piece in the US.
That will depend on how profitable it is to Funi. Which comes down to DVD sales. As long as the series is profitable then they will continue to produce it.
Someone should get a statement from them today.
Every time I read or hear anything about CN lately it seems to me that whoever is in charge of programming over there now doesn't know which hand wipes it's own ass. A long standing rule of television is that a steady time slot builds ratings and a surefire way to kill a show is to move it's time slot every week. Create and air new show bumpers, then pull show from schedule? None of anything that they've done lately is making any sense and it's all bad business.
Depending on what we may find out from Funi about this…
I think someone should get a MAILING address for Cartoon Network. Snail-mail makes more impact than email. Petitions do NOTHING. If you have siblings in the target audience demographic then have THEM write letters, handwritten, with their AGE.Also, sending networks random shit in protest often helps. It got Jericho another season to finish out it's plot. (I think they sent peanuts or something... I can't remember. Another shows fans sent light bulbs in protest.)
One Piece is too large and profitable a franchise in Japan to be completely ignored as long as it's still producing new material in Japan. Just remember that.

Precisely why I'm all but begging people to be polite and such in their e-mails. But you're right, snail mail will do wonders as well.
Do you think adding fanart would help, too? Especially if it's fanart from younger viewers?
-
I just sent a polite Email to Cartoon Network. Hopefully ALOT of emails and the Convention will make CN realize that they made a terrible mistake.
Dont keep saying that One Piece is dead in America yet, Many people love this show, If it was dead many people will hate it and there will be barely any positive feedback, hopefully the Convention will make Cn realize the terrible mistake they made.
-
Ah Fuuuuuuuuuck!

I doubt the convention is going to do it, though there may be a small uproar at the Funi panel.
-
Then what will the Convention acoomplish for Funi One Piece?
-
@Sandai:
Because of grown men/aliens beating the crap out of one another (or little kids and women), and firing energy blasts complete with stupid dialog, blatant edits, terrible music, and unnecessary name changes.
But you can't say most of that stuff about their DB dub as it was uncut, had the original music, and had no big name changes. It just had bad dialogue. Therefore it was acceptable. Anyway, on to One Piece. Man this sucks hard. I was looking forward to seeing Funi dub all the future episodes. Now chances are that Toei will yank the license and either give it to Viz or refuse to ever license it to another company because it failed in America.
-

I think at this point most of us just want to know what Funi's view of this is. There's a very good chance they know more than we do, so it's mostly just information gathering at this point.
We might also want to consider sending things to Toei of America as well. Namely, letting them know that One Piece fans still want to buy the DVDs and anything else they license over.

Dixxy, you pretty much said what I wanted to say. But I didn't know how to say it. ^_^
-
I still believe that this is only a flesh wound, however much Roman is disagreeing with me on Toon Zone News. If 'the enemy' has Zakus, we have the RX-78-2.
-
So true man. I pretty much just said what I wanted to say just now on Toon Zone. This is a just a litte bump or pothole in life. And that we should never give up hope and stuff like that.
-
But what CN cares for is ratings. If a show isn't doing good, remove it, that's what CN does, at least with some shows
-

Exactly. Right on the damn money.
-
But what were the ratings like? Didn't someone report that OP was doing well ratings wise?
Furthermore, they stated that they had aired all the episodes they had, but they ordered through Japanese episode 206. Wouldn't this suggest that Funimation hasn't sent them the new episodes, and that I think we might have heard by now.
-
Keep in mind that a great deal of anime that are popular or gets sold have NEVER aired on television. Fruits Basket, for one. That's a Funi project.
Just because it was taken off of some stupid cartoon channel doesn't mean it's gone. Funimation knows there's a market out there for One Piece, and so does Toei. There could be a variety of reasons for CN removing it.
Could be that they realized there was a lot of violence. I truly doubt it was ratings. Perhaps it was Funimation who pulled the plug because they were tired of it being butchered.
We just have very little information to go off of. And we're already assured uncut box sets in May.

I like the way you think. You're right - Fruits Baskets is HUGELY popular and to the best of my knowledge it's never been on US TV.
I also like the MacGuyver thing in your sig.
-
And you cannot blame them for that at all.
EDIT: For removing One Piece because of ratings, I mean.

Oh, yeah. 'Cause those reasons make a hell of a lot more sense than it losing ratings. Yep.
Come on, now.

Did you even read the second part of the post? We still have DVDs coming and she made a very good point - anime can be VERY successful in the US without TV ratings. So we just need to see what the DVDs do.
-
Fruits Basket isn't nearly as long, and as expensive as One Piece. It's not exactly a type of mainstream series either, while One Piece is suppose to be.
FB can do just fine with DVD only sells. I'm not sure One Piece can.
You have to take into account the different series and how they are.
-
Frankly, if pulling One Piece from CN means I never have to hear "Wiler" or miss out on blood or cigarettes, I don't mind at all.
I doubt that a large and relatively successful company like Funimation would have sank so much time and effort into a show that was going to bring them bad business. It seems counter-productive. Why dub half of one arc, then start on dubbing the beginning? Why assign voice actors to parts we're not going to hear until Water Seven?
At Izumicon, I spoke with Chris Sabat in a panel, and he was pretty adamant on the fact of placing voices with characters that wouldn't be showing up for several arcs. And keep this in mind:
Funimation only supplied Cartoon Network with the episodes we've seen. BUT. I digress. It IS possible they CN stopped ordering episodes. I'm not sure how all that works in the television business.
EDIT: Tee hee, thanks Dixxy. ^_^ It's so true!

Things like the fact that Funi is releasing the series at a far lower price than typical for first time DVD releases of anime.

One piece won't do good , take account that many fans refused to support the series because the dub sucks . One piece ain"t very popular here at all and has a small fan base as of now ….Naruto and Bleach have a bigger fan base enough to support there legal releases ...One piece does not . It is not commercial as Naruto it does not appeal to a broad audience.

As inferred there.
That's an excellent point - Cartoon Network ran all the episodes they had. Chances are this means Funimation doesn't have the next batch ready yet. They've also dubbed one of the movies and UA, PLUS trying to keep up with series AT DOUBLE SPEED (starting from episode one AND 144? Sure they don't need all the VAs right away on the early episode front but that's still a lot.
EDIT: Tee hee, thanks Dixxy. ^_^ It's so true!
You're welcome!

Well….
Maybe I'm going out on a limb here...
But don't you think we should wait for an official statement from Funimation BEFORE we all jump the gun, guys?
-

FUNi has no clue whatsoever on what CN is planning.
-
Guys, what about "Detective Conan"? That was a FUNimation dub, and Cartoon Network pulled the plug a year after it started. It was in the graveyard timeslot and everything. But even three years after CN pulled the plug on it, FUNimation is still releasing DVDs of it. They may be releasing them at a slower pace, but I guess it goes to show that FUNi doesn't give up so easily.
-
The whole idea of One Piece being a failure just pisses me off.
Yeah, it'd be 'okay' if that happens… But this feeling will forever be looming in my head.
-
That may be true, Mikey, but there's still the possibility that Toei may revoke Funi's license to One Piece. Now, don't quote me as someone who believes that will definitely happen, I'm just stating one of the possibilities. I also believe this could be a prank of ToonZoon's part. (It's close to April 1st, meaning I will trust no one until April 2nd)
There's too many things up in the air for some of us to remain calm. So though your optimistic attitude towards this ordeal is appreciated, Mikey & Youshi, it is in vein. No one will stop until we get word from Funi.
-
If this is true and One Piece never appears back on TV, a ceartin viewtifulboy will be laughing at us saying that 'FUNimation did a bad job and it isn't popular'
-
Lol, and there's really nothing we can say to counter him at this point either.
We were jipped.
-
I know that, even if we never get to hear another new dub line ever, that OP isn't a failure.
Most popular manga in Japan. We still get new chapters regularly. We'll always have fansubs. I'll still cosplay from it and draw fanart.
It's irritating and unpleasant if it comes to that, but it's not the end of my fandom. =)
-
I'm seriously questioning the whole fandom as a whole, right now. I'm in deep thought on what I should do…
-
Tis a sad day indeed.
-
@Youshi:

No one's saying that it would be the end, or at least I'm not, but this fandom would feel…. incomplete to me.
Think about it, even if you ignore the 4Kids butchering for this case, Funi gave us a wonderful dub even with a good share of edits. For some people, seeing their favorite anime on televesion in the language they speak is a big event. Take away the broadcast, even if the DVDs will still come out, and it's like you've taken away apart of the series, psychologically speaking.
That's the thing that upsets me most about all this.
