That's just Funi being cheap
Don't worry. They will still mark it as a "box set" to you, at a "box set" price, so they'll get "box set" money

Seriously? Why dont they just charge the thin pack price if it's only a two disk set? They'd defintely sell more dvds that way anyway. And isnt anime that airs on tv usually a bit cheaper anyway?
Cost per episode production is far greater than cost per DVD. Even on large scale production. Cutting back on number of discs isn't going to greatly impact the price.
Not to mention it's the first release. They need to make as much as they can off of the franchise first before hitting the price cut keys on their computers.
So is Funi really release the uncut version of First Season/? or is it a mistake?
For the ten septillionth time, yes!!!
No reason to get all PMS-ey.
If he had bothered to do any actual reading then he would have found his answer without having to post.
Maybe he just hasnt been on the boards frequently, or at least on this part of the forums.
If the question bothers people then they should just not answer it, it's no reason to be rude.
But does that excuse him for simply doing a little searching for the news?
@Yuugi's:
But does that excuse him for simply doing a little searching for the news?
No, but two wrongs dont make a right.
Then again, are you sure you were misreading the tone of my post?
That's possible as well, I take back what I said.
I was assuming you were saying that in spite.
How will the seasons be counted? Will it be like in Japan of are they still following the 4kids seasons?
Well, nobody knows yet.
I hope the Seasons are based off the Saga's. I'd like it to be like this;
Season 1: East Blue
Season 2: Baroque Works
Season 3: Skypiea
Season 4: CP9
Season 5: New World/Current
I hope the Seasons are based off the Saga's. I'd like it to be like this;
Season 1: East Blue
Season 2: Baroque Works
Season 3: Skypiea
Season 4: CP9
Season 5: New World/Current
That'd be good, but it wouldnt be very even.
Season 1 would be too short, while seasons 2 and 3 would be too long.

Uh, It's called the Thriller Bark saga.
Thriller Bark is an arc, not a saga. You need several arcs to make up one saga.
And I believe the current saga is called the Florian Triangle.
Each season will probably be 52 episodes for the ten thousandth time.

I doubt it. It was stated somewhere that Toei is calling all of Skypiea Season 3, so some seasons are going to be longer than others.

End of dispute over season lengths. First one to say it's unreliable because it's wikipedia dies.
With how many episodes that 4kids cut out, how can you call that an accurate interpretation of how many episodes will be in a season?
Exactly.
And No, Toei doesn't count those as the seasons, 4kids/CN did.
Toei Counts the seasons like this:
1st Season: East Blue Chapter - 1 ~ 62
2nd Season: Entering The Grand Line Chapter - 63 ~ 77
3rd Season: Enter Chopper at the Winter Island Chapter - 78 ~ 92
4th Season: Arrival At Arabasta Chapter & Arabasta Kingdom Chapter - 93~130
5th Season: Rainbow's Edge Chapter - 131 ~ 143
6th Season: Sky Island~Skypiea Chapter & Sky Island~The Golden Bell Chapter - 144 ~ 195
7th Season: Escape! The Naval Fortress & The Foxy Pirate Crew Chapter - 196 ~ 228
8th Season: Water Seven Chapter - 229 ~ 263
9th Season: Enies Lobby Chapter - 264 ~ Present

So, I have no Idea how FUNi is going to do it, but doing it this way (or close to this way, since not all of these would fit nicely with 13 Episodes Sets) would be good, because then "Seasons" would also designate Story arcs
The Toei season lists aren't really seasons by traditional definition, just points in the story where it ventures off into new terretory, which is why Drum is season 3, it ventures off from the Baroque Works story line and into "Nami's sick, we need to find a doctor." And I would not consider 13 episodes of filler a season either.
I doubt it. It was stated somewhere that Toei is calling all of Skypiea Season 3, so some seasons are going to be longer than others.
It is true that FUNimation was referring to Jaya/Skypiea as TV season 3. Going by the television continuity established by our favorite company 4Kids, the first episode of Jaya is 105 and the last episode of Skypiea would be 156, exactly 52 episodes. I think that's what FUNi meant by season 3, since they always did refer to it as TV season 3. The DVDs will most likely be different in which Jaya and the first 4 episodes of Skypiea are the end of season 3, while the rest of Skypiea is in season 4.
Look what I just found at right stuf.
Look what I just found at right stuf.
So is that for the second DVD, or did they redesign the first DVD's cover?
They redesigned the first cover.. unless the second one is also called Season 1 first voyage which would make no sense.
It's a redesign of the first cover.
Alright, makes sense. I didn't see the First Voyage on it at first. Pretty cool cover!
My wallet is impatiently awaiting it's arrival on shelves.
Okay, first off, I love the new cover. Zoro looks much more appropriately sized than he did before. But the box though…. that's a mighty thick box for two disks. Shelf space gets eaten up quick. There's no reason it couldn't be put in a standard 2-Disk DVD case other than it's harder to justify calling it a 'box set'.
As for the episode count, for those of you who don't understand this, OnePiece, along with many other animes, are produced in 13 episode batches.
Naruto for instance (you know, the show this board is here for) just ended the 4th season of Shippuuden. Big one hour finale for episodes 51 and 52. The next batch will start this week.
Look through a list of OnePiece episodes and you'll see batches of 13 ending at important points throughout the series.

I'm glad you're now the person to go to on this information. I'll make sure to PM you next time this subject is brought up.
I can't stand the wait for these sets….. I'll buy every One-Piece DVD FUNI puts out!!!
^FUNimation doesn't release Naruto DVDs.
Anyway, to be honest… I kinda prefer the art for the previous set, only if Zoro had been appropriatley sized then it would've been just fine.

But it wasn't, so this is better, dattebayo!

Yeah, I actually liked the previous cover better as well. But this one is still good. I am kinda worried about the 6-8 week release schedule though.. Don't get me wrong, I love the news and i hope they release them that fast.. but FUNI said they would release Slayers that quickly, and it ended up being three months between releases. However, this is different, for FUNI is putting a LOT of hard work into One-Piece and they didn't put that much effort into Slayers.

I think it could be the same as the naruto box sets(cds in folded box +item(which is usally a storyboard book))(that would be cool for OP,a storyboard book for one episode)

You are wrong. Stop spreading misinformation.
Mike McFarland confirmed long ago that Toei considers the Skypeia arc to be the 'third season'. END OF DISCUSSION.
@Mikemc1:
Season three for OP is considered by TOEI to be the Skypeia arc-stuff. Not the usual 13 ep anime series season (or as some people believe, the 24 to 27 episode seasons).
Toei says season three is Skypeia.
Funi will release the series in 13 episode sets.
These are facts. They are not up for speculation or debate and haven't been for a long !@#$ing time.
Well Charagon is it possible that when Mike said that he meant here in the states? It would make sense considering there's less episodes.

Do you even own the OnePiece Rainbow book? o____O What he's saying is RIGHT from the book. To have a stick up your ass about that is quite foolish, especially calling an official animation log book wrong. Also note he says "No idea how Funi does it." But it is quite obvious Skypiea is 3rd season here with the Funi dub.
Honestly, do research before you go preaching.
Edit: Quexi some-what beat me to it. Ah well, I'll probably still get a DERP post on how I'm an idiot, even though I'm not doubting the American season's at all. insert witty macro here
-Zera
Yes, because the logical assumption is that Toei considers Season 3 in America different than Season 3 in Japan and that the book isn't referring to arcs as opposed to 'seasons' as we typically know them.
So… what season are they in now?
Exactly.
And No, Toei doesn't count those as the seasons, 4kids/CN did.

Kindly Tell me where what I said was "Misinformation"?
And for the Record, I never claimed that list to be what Toei Considers the US Seasons, I just brought it up that way saying I thought it would be neat if we got a DVD release like that.
And NO, Toei DID NOT come up with the US seasons, Fox and Cartoon Network did in which/how many Episodes they ordered at a time. if Toei Considers that to be the correct US season listing, then that's fine. But we're talking about the UNCUT DVDS HERE, and like it or not, those will have 40 more episodes than the US "Seasons" actually had, so kindly SHUT UP!!
Please Don't be so rude when you think you're right in the future.
EDIT: I've got something to add.
Who is To say FUNi's Idea of "Seasons" is going to be the same as CNS, or Toei's?!
CASE AND POINT: When Dragon Ball Z First ran on TV, it was ordered in 2 23 Episode sets (the first 2 seasons, 54 Episodes) which was cut down from 66. Then, DBZ Tanked, and CN Bought the rights to those first 2 seasons, and it took off on CN, it got so immensely popular, that CN Started ordering new Episodes. now, it stated out Slow, but once the Cell Arc started, They were ordering Episodes in 75 Episode Blocks. I remember seeing Toonami Ads for "75 New Episodes of Dragon Ball Z coming soon!!". Now, this would mean that Dragon Ball Z Seasons 1-3 would each be about 33 Episodes (after adding in the Cut Episodes) which is about right. So answer me this, why is it that when we get to Season 4, the part of the show where CN started ordering it in 75 Episode Chunks, do we get only the Android arc? or why is Season 5 only going to be the Cell Arc, no Cell games? the actual Season 4 was that WHOLE chunk of episodes, so why not show that?! oh wait… you know what they're doing? THEY ARE SPLITTING DBZ UP INTO ARCS, AND CALLING THEM SEASONS!!! WHO IS TO SAY THEY WON'T DO THAT FOR ONE PIECE?!
I really do think Mike meant Toei considers Skypiea part of Season 3 in the US.
One thing though, do Japanese shows have seasons anyway? I mean… don't they run constantly with no breaks?
