damn this is massive news I think Korea just exploded
I've been watching that IGN page for the past hour.. freaking FINALLY.
info is coming out like crazy now
So far, lots of new units for the Protoss:
Warprey - air unit that fires a laser that causes more damage the longer it hits.
Phoenix - air unit that can overcharge and multi-hit.
Immortal - ground unit with a shield that only protects against powerful attacks.
Colossus - giant mecha that can walk over terrainTerrans have a jump-jet infantry now, zergling can mutate and suicide bomb //^_^\
Crazy stuff, hope they'll have more announcements for the other races.
I'm really curious if they're going to throw any new races into the mix or keep with Terran, Protoss, and Zerg. And god damn do I need to buy a new copy of Starcraft since I don't know where the hell mine got to.
I forgot where I heard it but I remember something about 4 races would be done if SCII was made.
I can't wait. I never played Starcraft 1. But before you start shouting "how can you NOT!" GO get it! NOW!" I promised myself I'd buy Starcraft II and get into the series. I'll only buy Starcraft 1 if 2 ends up totally sucking balls. Based on how much people are wetting their pants right now, especially in Korea, I doubt they'll mess it up.
The CGI announcement.
Sweet merciful christmas!! Tal I love you for this news.
happy dance
The biggest thing i was worried about in Starcraft 2 was that Blizzard would have the same type of gameplay as in Warcraft 3. So far, after seeing the gameplay videos it doesn't seem like it, but i could be wrong.
On the bright side they have kept many of the old sound effects from Starcraft 1
and from the offical site
StarCraft II will run on a vibrant new 3D-graphics engine that will be capable of rendering beautiful landscapes as well as massive individual units and army sizes.
We're also introducing a number of distinct new units to the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg, and even some of the familiar units that return in StarCraft II will have new tricks up their sleeves, which will give the game its own unique flavor.
In addition, Battle.net will be overhauled with some new and exciting features to enhance online play and competition, while the story-mode campaign will also offer some unique aspects for players who enjoy single-player content. We'll have more details on all these aspects in the months to come.
and
In StarCraft II, players will see the return of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races. Our goal is to ensure that all the factions in the game play even more distinctly from one another than in the original StarCraft, while still maintaining the fine balance that helped make StarCraft such a classic. We're also introducing a number of new units to each race, as well as modifying some of the familiar units returning in StarCraft II. With these design refinements and the new features we have planned for the single-player and multiplayer elements of the game, StarCraft II will offer a next-generation StarCraft experience.
they seem fully comitted to keeping the balance
hopefully there isn't a WC3 like Hero system….
I heard that this new Starcraft wasn't going to be on computor. It was gonna be used on something else.
Any early info on custom mapmaking? Do they plan on supporting it like Wc3?
The Koreans will now have a new, bad RTS to air on national TV
My awesome-meter just splurged all over yo face.
"Hell… It's about time."
That's pretty sweet, I've only played SC a couple times myself, but I think I'll end up getting this.
If Warcraft III didn't suck so hard I would have though this to be glorious news.
The last three Blizzard games were of ultimate failure, though there's a chance Starcraft II could redeem the company.
Korea did indeed blew up.
Actually, we imploded. Thank you.
Anyways, I'm fucking excited.

I hope your wrong than.
WC3 for the win.
Yeah, Warcraft III was awesome.
I thought Warcraft III was great, in fact I viewed Warcraft III as the best Blizzard game I'd played.
Still though, Starcraft II will hopefully be good.
@Mr.:
I thought Warcraft III was great, in fact I viewed Warcraft III as the best Blizzard game I'd played.
Blizzard took a medieval-fantasy themed combat simulator and turned it into a cross-universe ugly arse RPG. It was a piece of trash, this coming from a decade-long Warcraft fan.
What made Warcraft awesome was that it had a very thin story and an atmosphere that was defined by violence of the masses, not a small core of elites (which is why I absolutely hated the "hero" concept - felt like a shounen manga).
In my opinion "The Lost Vikings" was the best Blizzard game, followed by Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft II, then Warcraft I. Warcraft III is a lot better than Diablo II, but the change in staff/direction toward new age anime/manga RPG fans reflected its depreciation in quality.
And DII was so gosh darn horrible I don't know why I topped the Battle.net ladder so many times. Holy shoot that game was bad. >_<;
Well, that's one person who hates compared to everyone else who doesn't.
@Cap'n:

When Gaia fans and GameFAQ users count themselves among the masses of WCIII circle-jerkers, I'm perfectly content denouncing their gospel.
You yourself dislike the HB cartoons for permanently reducing the quality of animation, right? I consider WCIII to have a simmilar impact on PC gaming, which is why the last PC game I ever played was Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal nearly four years ago.
Well… that and Hanna-Barbera cartoons weren't particularly good.

I'm not sure how a combat simulator becomes an RPG by having lead units that can pick up treasure chests, but I'm going to go with the benefit of the doubt.
Official website is up. Couple neat teasers in there and some wallpapers.
Warcraft III gave me frozen throne and DoTA. Good enough for me.
I actually like the Warcraft storyline, it's pretty cool.
I was wondering. I intend to try out Starcraft II, so is not playing Starcraft I gonna leave me left out or something?
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Thanks to this I bought two copies of both StarCraft and Broodwar –- why I sold my original copies of those two is still beyond me. Stupid, stupid me. Anyway, SC 2 has so much potential, a game of the year material.
New units are already sexy as hell, those should mix the bag well enough and they are just a tip of the iceberg. Blizzard will work closely with the pro SC players so the multiplayer should be hardcore and the gameplay should be pretty close the original. Plus there's no more unit control limit and the races will be even more diverse than before. Former lead designer from EA LA, the guy behind Generals and Zero Hour, is the seniour designer of SC 2. That is love. Besides Blizzard has been working with the game since 2003 and they have endless pits of money so the game should be extremely polished when it comes out. Oh, and the graphics are just like I want them to be.
Yeah, I'm pretty excited.

If your playing the story mode? Yes. Probably. Though they might have a recap in the booklet or something.
If your just playing it? straight or online? No, not at all.
Even if you aren't interested in playing the campaigns you can still…
pay 10 bucks for SC --> memorize few hotkeys --> move to South Korea --> win some trivial tournaments --> earn a quarter million $ --> become a local celebrity --> get all the ladies you want and more.
That's what you miss if you don't play SC.
New Starcraft II footage:
Bunch of units for Protoss. From the look of it, Dark Templars has taken over them .
Edit:
And according to PC Gamer there are 17 units for Toss as a whole. 18 if you count in Phase Cannons too:
! Probe
Zealot
Immortal
Stalker
Soul Hunter
High Templar
Dark Templar
Twilight Archon
Observer
Reaver
Colossus
Phase Prism
Phoenix
Warp Ray
Tempest
Star Relic
Mothership
Phase Cannon
! FUCKING PHASE CANNONS CAN MOVE!
I can already think of lots of mean things which could be done with it. Generally Toss has become lots of more mobile which is great –- I used to love Terran because of their mobility but this new Toss kind of mobility is a whole different ball game.
-Hero units will not be as important or require as much management as they did in Warcraft III.

fuck…
Wait so….no Starcraft DoTA?
I never played DoTA (so im not sure i know what it is about) but why would there not beeing any hero units prevent that? SC 1 managed to use roleplaying with reguilar characters by altering their stats and using triggers. ofc i think they acctually had to kill off the unit and replace it with another model with differnet skills at each levelup, but those maps were incredibly fun. (and personally i like the model switching)
Oh so THAT's how marines are made. Thought they were cloned.

Click the video at the bottom of the list.
think hes a hero character?
! or do they acctually weld convicts into those bloody armors?
Starcraft 2 will be playable at BlizzCon! I'll let you all know how awesome it is!
! or do they acctually weld convicts into those bloody armors?
Yes. Marines, Firebats etc. are convicts.
There are no heros in multiplayer. But campaings will have heroes –- even the original game had these hero units in the campaings.

Kinda depends on the map doesnt it? peobably wont be any in the standard battle maps but custom made maps with lots of fun triggers could probably have the hero units running around doing fun things ^^

Says his name is Tychus Findlay.
But yeah, they do make convicts into Marines. I read that somewhere in the first StarCraft's CD cover or something.
ah looked closer at the screenshot under that and saw that he was also "inmate 626"
.. seems like he's both. (well i assumed he was a convict but he could have been an old veteran from the first SC that went criminal and is now put back into service =P)
but its now cleared up that they used convicts even in SC1…
i wonder though how they keep people from going AIM. and how they make them follow orders so well. Personally i dont know if ordering criminals around is the best way to fight a war.
The Terrans were all originally criminals and outcasts, thats why they were sent by Earth to test deep space travel.
Thats why they're all white trash. :D
Kinda depends on the map doesnt it?
Yeah, I guess. Plus they are making the map editor even more powerful this time around so it's pretty inevitable. It still means that those of us who don't like heroes won't have to bother with 'em at all as Blizzard is "going back to the roots". There will also be those tedious money maps made by some wackos but we don't need bother with those either. What I'm waiting to see is all those wonderful pro maps remade.
