Yeah, I admit Sonic looks very neat to play as.
Also, Lucario, at risk of being labeled as a fag…I think he's kinda badass lately after watching Brawl videos of him along with his Anime appearance with a lightsaber/wolverine claws

Yeah, actually, I find Sonic is really fun to play as, but I'm not very good as him… For the life of me, I can't find a single move of his that KO's people very well. Not going to keep me from playing as him, though. Too much fun, and I don't care enough about winning.
It just drives me nuts because people freak out over Sonic. They don't even play him once, and they already hate his existance. I understand Sonic hasn't had a good upbringing. I understand Sonic's games haven't been the best. But damnit, he's still the lurking guardian of my childhood memories. All the fans who say "Sonic, IN SUPER SMASH BROTHERS! Now I don't want the game." Screw you.
I don't know if I'll be maining Sonic, but my mind has a personal bet that it will be Pit, Marth, or Ike (last time it was Marth). But really, it's not like I played the game for ONE character.
It's cool to hate Sonic, now.
Sonic certainly wasn't bad to play as, but the majority of his moveset being based on rolling into a ball pales in comparison with jet engines inside hammers and eating your own motorcycle.
I find it ironic that people hate how Sonic games are now-a-days with all the new shit added in, but the minute Sakurai decides to go Classic with Sonic and being speed (which is what everyone always whines about wanting back) with all him doing is turning into a Ball people hate it like hell.
Him turning into a ball isn't the same as bringing back the old games. Not really sure how you formed an analogy between those two.
@EvilGamerX:
If they can't use someone, they will say that the character is bad.
Or maybe they know what they're talking about when they say Mewtwo is terrible, since he was.
I'm still sticking to my statement. People like to bitch, end of story.
Yeah, leave at that guys, shit like "who's the best" is all subjective anyways, not counting that tier lists change alot, (usually the longer the game is out). Besides they're better ways to prove which character is better (like in an online VS. match perhaps).
i kill you all with yoshi spam down+b till you dead
@EvilGamerX:

Oh yeah, that they do. Especially Smash Bros. players, since they're mostly a bunch of casuals [which isn't meant to sound negative] who have no idea how fighting games work.
However, Greg's friend's older cousin's roommate's dog being good with Mewtwo doesn't mean that Mewtwo is good when compared to the rest of the cast.
Yeah. The thing that annoys me with tiers and anti-tiers are often I see people bring up ONE example and declare it as what niche that character feels.
I fought an armless WWII vet using Fox with Mewtwo and I WON! Fox is low tier, Mewtwo is da bomb.
@Cyringohn:

Hey, if someone can use him really well, I don't care what anyone else says. They know how to use the character. It is the player that makes a character good or bad.
No, lines of data determine how good a character is. No amount of skill can alter data that is urinated onto a disk.
It isn't like real life where you can just get better and eventually win. If your friend is given Travis Touchdown's beam katana, but all you have is a two-inch squirt gun, no amount of skill can allow you to win.
Player skill is a lot more important than tiers, but when you get into high levels of tournament play where the players have basically reached the pinnacle of the metagame, the one with the superior character is going to win [if you're referring to somebody as terrible as Mewtwo, anyway].
So what would be the point of playing in high-level tourneys if the person with the best character is gonna win regardless? And I'm not trying to be satiracal or anything, but if that's the case, why bother?
And I don't agree with the Beam Katana analogy at all.
What if the Beam Katana user was Konan?
That water squirter would fucking own her.
To see who wins. When everybody is using characters that are around the same tier level, i.e. beam katana, they all have an equal chance of winning; it boils down to skill. Is it boring? Uh, yes. It's why I don't bother with competitive Smash.
I honestly don't care what you agree with since that's how [most] tiers work. Good characters are atomic bombs, and bad characters are grains of sand. A balanced fighting game is more along the lines of: high tier characters are Bruce Lee, and low tier characters are Bruce Lee with a hang nail. Is the former Bruce Lee technically better off? Absolutely, but not by much. Latter Bruce Lee isn't going to lose just from having a hang nail.
Unfortunately, Smash Bros. is better off sticking to explosions and sandy beaches.
At high levels everyone's gonna be using Marth, Fox, or Sheik, so it comes down to skill at that point. But if you have two players of equal skills, one as Marth and one as Mewtwo, the chances are very high that Marth will win.
Or so I assume.
EDIT: Beaten.

where the heck is the Naruto thread.
I miss these type of low blows.
And to not have a Naruto thread during the most pitiful chapter of Naruto EVER, is blasphemy.
Anyways… how bout dat smash.
See, even Sunday on the Shortcake gets it.

I don't wanna misquote you, but your previous post said that the player with the superior character will win in high levels of play. But now in this particular one, you say that everybody has an equal chance of winning if they're using characters around the same level. You're usually on the ball, but there may be an inconsistency there.
And I didn't disagree with (or agree) with what you said, just that the analogy was bad. Since IRL, people develop, get better, faster, more powerful as you said and can concievably beat some punk on the street wielding a beam saber. A
nd since you can't change anything in the game but your skill level, it isn't a good analogy. You can't suddenly practice in a fighter and magically make Dan's move hit harder, faster and all that. So, I"m just sayin your analogy is flawed. I'm not commenting on your fightin game knowledge since I don't really care for that stuff.
EDIT: Typo in the last part changed it.
EGX: Argument you can't win. I also know a really kickass Mewtwo player. But against the likes of top tier characters, he is worthless. That's just the way Melee was balanced. Or lack thereof.

If it is high tier vs. low tier, the person with the superior character is going to win. If it is high tier vs. high tier, player skill is going to decide who wins.
Both of these factors are assuming that both players are of similar skill level, to begin with. Tiers are created upon the ideal that the players in question have as equal skill as possible, which is why the argument of WELL I KNOW THIS GOOD NESS PLAYER is illogical – the Fox player that the Ness is fighting against is just as good as the Ness player.
Since IRL, people develop, get better, faster, more powerful as you said and can concievably beat some punk on the street wielding a beam saber.
Not with a mother fucking squirt gun, they can't. No matter how much stronger I am than you, I can't kill you by breathing on you. There are pinnacles of human potential in real life too, you know.
ready for sum translation
!
that's even better translated
Wow Kirby looks down right demonic there.
That was amazing. Someone make me a signature of that Kirby, for I am a talentlless hack.
Hellsing and Smash Bros all rolled into one… If I can't die happy now then I have some serious issues.
What exactly is that comic?
What exactly is that comic?
I don't know where it originated, but it's supposed to be a Smash Bros parody of the Major's 'I Love War' speech from Hellsing (I believe Zero Suit Samus is Zorin in this pic).
BTW, does anyone know if there is a file source for this comic? I'd really love to save it to my computer, assuming it's not taboo or anything (probably not, but I thought I'd ask).
what do you mean source?
I found the original images here
http://asame8.web.infoseek.co.jp/smbxnf1.html
posted em on the net and someone translated them
Ah, thank you. Oh, and I found a way to save the pics. My thanks to the translator and the creator (where ever they are out there). Now I just needs my OVA 4 subs.
On topic, though, a part of me really looks forward to stage builder, but I'm worried about how much freedom I'll actually have in building a stage, especially since I don't know what all the parts are.
I actually think it's worse translated XD

I've messed around with it for a few minutes, and it does seem a little underwelming at first. There aren't a whole lot of parts, and it seems like it's not that great, but it's possible to make some pretty cool stages with the limited resources you have, you just have to think about it. My other problem with it is that for every stage, you can only pick one song to play while you fight on it.

Agree.
Trophy Spoilers
I've been checking some of the trophies. Fire emblem (besides Ike, Lyn, and Marth) only have three trophies….
Elincia, Black Knight, and Sothe. That's it.
no big deal its only Fire Emblem
Oh darn, Fire Emblem only has two characters, an Assist Trophy, a stage, and three normal Trophies.
FOR SHAME.
:getlost:
Cause a series with a number of characters ranging from 15-50 per game, 3 trophies is enough representation of the game. God forbid, three trophies of Fire Emblem's cruddiest characters. For all we know, people might think Fire Emblem is like Final Fantasy.
I love how people complain about a series that got two character representation when series like F-Zero and Metroid get one.
They should just rename the game to Super Fire Emblem Bros. so the series gets the representation is truly deserves!
Quiet! They're not supposed to know about Smash DS's true name yet!
I love how people complain about a series that got two character representation when series like F-Zero and Metroid get one.
damn if we removed both Emblem characters we could even those 2 out at 2
DAMN IT
Don't complain about F-Zero representation. For Gods sake, if you talk to any frequent Internet user, and that internet user doesn't know what "Falcon Punch" is. You have every right to Faclon Punch him in the face, then Falcon Kick him in the balls.
So after being gone for a month for whatever reason (not that anyone cares) I went back and read pretty much every page that I missed (though I skipped over the character "leaking" debacle that I'll assume happened). What stands out (and my thoughts):
Sonic/ Wolf/ Toon Link/ "clone" hate in general
As far as Sonic goes, I'm maining him, so I don't care much about what others think. The genius in his moveset involves the "WTF,why did you do that/ WTF did you just do?!" He relies on such mind games. Gotta be unpredictable and throw off your opponent. His speed allows this.
As far as clones are concerned, they were disappointing at first but they're in every single fighting game. Why some (ignorant) smash players thought they "deserved" complete original movesets is beyond me. God forbid they play Soul Calibur or Street Fighter lest their heads explode. As long as they each bring a new playstyle to the table (which they do), they're fine by me.
Tier discussion It baffles me how people are already talking about this crap. No doubt that some characters may stand above others, but to be talking about specific tiers is almost idiotic. The game isn't even out in America yet and hasn't even been out for a month. Damn, at least give it 3 months. Further, don't let tiers affect whatever character YOU want to play as. Get the character who fits your playstyle and if the end all be all tier list comes out and whatever character you love is on the low tier, innovate or make yourself known. Be proud to say that you're the best Mewtwo player on the block and prove it. Play the damn game and have fun with it.
Music
Yeah, it's awesome. I haven't completely spoiled myself on all the tracks either, but from what I've heard there isn't a song I outright hate.
Glossing over important topics
Most notably "Stale move negation". It's a huge factor in Brawl and adds so much to the game (in theory). Yeah, it was in Melee to an extent, that extent being the more you spammed one move the less damage you got out of it. In Brawl, there's that and the fact that knockback is drastically reduced, to the point that a godly attack (Like Zelda's b/f.air) can't KO at all past 100%. Strategically, one could intentionally spam and weaken a move and combo it into a kill move. Once people stop playing like Melee (approaching from the air and spamming that one move) this will become more apparent. Also, it'll be much more rewarding to utilize a characters entire moveset. To memory, every characters moveset is viable (except something like PK Flash). I definitely see a ton of character diversity when it comes to tournaments and the like.
"Advanced" Techniques
Just because there's no L-canceling or wavedashing doesn't mean everyone has a chance now. There's always something that the top players will exploit that will give some sort of advantage. Though I do think it's funny how people are determined to break the game to justify competitive play. Honestly, Brawl itself has more than enough to keep me satisfied as far as competitive play goes. Tripping sucks, but I'm not getting all butthurt about it. Extremely funny how people want to mod the game just to remove it.
Oh, and this forum/thread skews casual, with the exception of people like Gohn. That's about it as far as observations go. I think I'll like playing with you guys in… 11 days. Wow. That close, huh? I still haven't pre-ordered the game lol. Anybody going to a midnight release? I think I may be going to a Gamestop nearby and participating in the tournament. The rules suck early on, but I think it'll flesh out by the later rounds.
I'll be going to the Gamestop tournament. No reason not to give it a try while I'm there buying the game.
I've yet to read or hear about this GameSpot tourney. When is it? March 7th? I'll do it if it fits into my time schedule. I was planning on playing the game all day with a few friends but if this is at like 8 am when they open I'm game.
It takes place during the midnight release of the game.
The biggest catch is that it's:
+Wiimote & Nunchuck only.
+Starting roster only.
They're doing a midnight release!? I think I just died. Fuck staying up late for Halo 3, Smash is another story. I better find out the details sooner than later from my local GameStop.
Edit: I love how I find this shit plastered all over GameStop's website.
Just about any Gamestop that isn't in the Middle of Nowhere is doing a midnight release. S'pretty great stuff.
Yeah man, seriously. And I was planning on getting up at 6:30 in the morning. Apparently I'm not going to sleep until 6:30 in the morning.
