Finnaly saw the whole thing. Awesome episode. Really funny stuff. Sabat's Zoro has really improved since the dub began. Tremendously.

Lots of things to respond to.
Zoro, Nami, and God
I thought this scene was done very well. It got all the major points across without being terribly awkward. Even Nami's praying didn't seem out of place.Naruto and it's episode budget
Naruto has had some pretty lacking animation at times. But then so has One Piece. Has anybody else noticed that the animation quality usually sees a jump whenever Rock Lee is on the screen though….
Either way, Episode 26 of Shippuuden (second to last episode of the Sasori fight) is the best episode in the whole series. Freaking epic.Naruto vs. Sasuke did have some butt-ugly scenes in it.
Tarzan Yell
Wooooooouuououooooooooouououoooooo!Kazaguruma
Pinwheel > Windmill
If it can be translated into either, it should be Pinwheel because that's what inspired the attack.Revenge of the Bitch-Queen
From what I've seen of the episode, Robin was fine right up until she started in on Nami. Then she was replaced by a huge bitch and I didn't recognize her anymore.
The problem with Bitch-Queen Robin is that she's about as subtle as a sledgehammer. This is a far cry from the real Robin, who could insult you to your face, but will say it in such a way that you're still not sure if she was insulting you or not.
Where the real Robin is a precision instrument of dry wit, Bitch-Queen Robin is about as refined and clever as your stereotypical high school cheerleader, but without the dignity.I watched the offending scene in both languages back to back and there's a clear difference between "How very brave of you" and "Look at that, you're not gutless."
In the original, if Robin is being anything but sincere, I can't pick it up. She could be legitimately acknowledging Nami's bravery, she could be talking down to her like you would a child being brave for jumping the last two stairs, or she could have just been making a neutral observation.
Bitch-Queen Robin isn't nearly that subtle. There's no way to take "Look at that, you're not gutless" as anything but Robin being mean.
I think a "Mr." belongs in front of "Swordsman" too, although at least she didn't say it as if her mouth was full of snake venom.
Cloverfield
Freaking awesome. Amazing from start to finish. If you haven't seen it, go now. -
Well, people usually don't like it when a dubbing company messes with a characters personality… Or lack there of...
Actually, I've seen complaints about 4Kids making Nami too bitchy and such before, so I guess people don't want to see that kinda stuff happen again.
Nami's supposed to be kinda bitchy though so I don't see any problem with that.
-

No She's NOT!!
She's really… She has NO personality, she just kindof makes Semi-cheery observations, that's it.
She's NEVER a bitch once she's joined the Strawhats. FUNi is making her out to be one, but this episode is an indication it's getting "Better" but not fully fixed yet. -

Kazaguruma
Pinwheel > Windmill
If it can be translated into either, it should be Pinwheel because that's what inspired the attack.Probably lost in translation due to how far back that was, way before FUNi's time. Considering the word could be translated into Windmill, it's pretty much easy to see why they went with that translation.
Hell, wasn't the actual last time he used that attack back when he first used it? :wassat:

Insert post I don't feel like quoting because it's too long hereYou just perfectly summed up what I thought of the episode as well. Though, I tend to not notice the "Bitch-Queen Robin"-thing as much as other people do, but it was blatantly obvious in that scene you mentioned.
-

The most controversial topic in dubbing: Robin (warning, a fucking essay ahead that is most likely tl;dr and too serious because I was inspired by all the debate on Robin's personality or something. Disclaimer: everything is my own take on Robin and therefore my opinion. Also, I have always sucked at analyzing text in English, so don't be too cruel if what I say is, in your view, just bullshit)
I really like Robin's voice. Her voice sounds pretty much perfect. But her acting and script really need to change. I've been pretty neutral on the whole "bitch" Robin thing, since I don't mind a few heated lines here and there, but I do think this episode took it a bit too far.
"You have guts, don't you?" is pretty much completely different from "Look at that. You're not gutless," in connotation. The former can imply that Robin was genuinely impressed by Nami jumping despite being scared, making a simple observation, or being sarcastic. The latter was pretty snarky and can only be analyzed as being snarky. And her "Don't blow it~!" was bad mostly due to her sing-song tone. It was just too obviously mocking. If the line was delivered normally, I probably would have been fine with it. Not the best translation, of course, but not something bitch-worthy.
Robin doesn't taunt. Or if she does, she doesn't make it so obvious. She makes calm observations/comments that can be very blunt, which sometimes ends up freaking people out because what she says is so straightforward ("If he was eaten, the clouds would be red", "The drop's 50 meters; if you fall, you die", etc). And in these instances, it's generally hard to decide if she's trying to freak people out on purpose or not.
Robin acts calm, cool, and a little stoic, especially during Skypiea, since that's the first real arc with Robin as part of the crew; no one's sure what her real intention is and nothing much is known about her, and, Robin probably doesn't feel quite at home with the Strawhats just yet. Her slightly mysterious aura kind of gets deflated when she's taunting someone like a grade-schooler. :/ Playfulness has its limits too, especially when the particular character never really displayed such trait before.
Even after Robin truly fits in with her crew and shows a wide variety of emotions (shock, anguish, anger, happiness, etc) in a certain arc later on, while she becomes more relaxed and expressive, she never loses that level-headed and cool aura, because that's just how she is.
Don't get me wrong, I love Funimation and what they're doing to One Piece for the most part, but that particular scene in this episode was like nails on a chalkboard for me.
And uh, a bit of a tangent, but why the hell do people say Robin has no personality? How does one have no personality if they're not dead or a vegetable? Granted, one can have a boring, bland, or stoic personality, but they're still personalities.
Other stuff from the episode I wanted to comment on/Stuff people who couldn't care less about my Robin analysis can skip down to if they care for my post at all.
Zoro's Tarzan yell was spot on. It really made me laugh.
I don't think there can be enough praise for Sonny Strait's Usopp. His screams and random noises of terror were all perfect and hilarious. I'm pretty sure that I like him better than Usopp's Japanese voice actor now.
I loved how Nami's comments on Zoro punching the shark were delivered. XD Also, I don't know why, but her "Okay, bye" when she was praying made me giggle quite a bit.
Kind of random, but we get to hear Sanji's attack next episode! :D Well, half of it anyway. Point is, we can hear how his VA will deliver it (though I guess if you've been watching the Ultimate Adventure clips, you have a pretty good idea how it will be like).
-
I haven't watched the English version yet. But last night I did watch subs. Robin has a attutide in the Japanese version too, in the tone of voice. We just don't recognize it as easy due to us not speaking the language. Also I really want someone(Greg maybe?) to break down some of Robin's speaches from the Japanese to see if the way she says things in Japanese makes her rude or "bitchy". Cause this might be similar to how Luffy's way of speach makes him into a rude bastard.
~Edit~
I've seen from 10:17 and up. Robin sounds fine. After watching the Japanese Version, and this version, Robin is fine, I wanna say Perfect. But then everyone would hate me. But its not OoC at all. Like I said before, I want someone to tear open how she says things.

best parts of the episode

As much as i'd hate to agree with Chargon but yes Robin has just become a bitch-queen in my eye that was just to much to bear, "Don't Blow it." "Look at that ur not gutless." that was hard on the ear to out of character.
-
instead of bitching tell funimation to fix it. yeah yeah its ooc i know but all u guys do is bitch about it. if u want u.s roin to act more like how jap robin does then tell them
-
Oh, I didn't expect him to already have an account here. Make sure you turn it into a pyramid scheme, guys.
@The:
No, he only has an account on Toon Zone. I go to TZ, and therefore I knew what Lobster was talking about.
But, let's stop going off-topic. Enjoy the clip Tsukento loaded. =D
That's 'cause Toon Zone (two words people) is a great source of information pertaining to any animation and has a kick butt forum run by some pretty neats dudes! :ninja:
Oh Chooper, how you rock. Isn't anybody going to post a screen capture of Chopper in boiling water?
-
Sigh…
Talk back threads just aren't the same, now that Quexinos is gone :'(
-
Quexi left? That blows.
Last night's episode was sweet. I just watched it this morning. It's excellent stuff, kind of like how Cloverfield was excellent stuff.
I like U.S. Robin.

What do you think this forum is for?
-
Don't know if this was mentioned, but:
Did I hear Luffy say "Is it God?" when entering Upper Yard, or is it just me?
-
"God" is never mentioned at all in the episode.
-
I could have sworn I heard him say God too…
But anyway, Quexi is gone? Wow, that sucks.
-
Loved the episode, especially the LuSaUs combos once again and of course the Tarzan yell which I was anticipating with everyone else.
I was dead tried an hour before it came on, so I slept for an hour and tried to wake myself up with Naruto 6 minutes before OP came one…needless to say I kept nodding out till the OP opening came.
And I didn't think Robin was out of character for taunting Nami, I recall she did taunt her in the original. I find it funny that it went from Zoro to Swordsmen, we're closing, next step should be Mr. Swordsmen.
@Rin: Uuuuuh...last time I checked Nami is indeed quite a bitch.
-
Did I hear Luffy say "Is it God?" when entering Upper Yard, or is it just me?
No, he said "Is it GONE?"
-
Quexi is gone? Wow, that sucks.
I know. I miss her already.
Anyways, I really wanna say that this was the funniest episode yet. Zoro's Tarzan yell (that whole scene had me rolling), Chopper's boiled-alive dream, just a lot of stuff had me intentionally laughing.
-
Quex was a friend of mine, and she helped me out a lot with several things…but I'm sorry, she's been fucking ridiculous lately. I think she needed to leave, maybe it'll help her chill out.
Anyways, was I the only one who found the next episode preview a nice jab? I mean here the entire "orb" thing by 4kids was so not to be offensive, then in the preview they sprout balls out like crazy. XD I found that quite funny.
-
So why the hell did Quexi leave?
-
^It's in the "goodbye thread"
-
http://apforums.net/showthread.php?p=780934#post780934 I guess cause people didn't agree with her.

wtf
Anyway, Quexi and Carter just got into a huge epic throw down
that's about the size of it, Gerckek

Bon Voyage is the worst opening. And Faith is the worst ending.
u must b joking .__.
buuut I suppose that you are entitled to your opinion… -_-

A to Z is fricken awesome. POO DUMP ON JOO!
Brand New World is the worst opening, Lobster. Get your facts straight.
-
BLASPHEMY! I challenge you to an eating contest.
First person to eat a whole box of hamdingers wins. And I'm winning because I ain't hearin' any of this here anti-Faith and Bon Voyage stuff.
Bon Voyage is to Hikari E as Conis is to Vivi: Hotter and awesomer in every way imaginable. Even down there. Yep, right in the naughty bits.
-
Brand New Word was awesome
It put all of the openings, except Believe, Kokoro no Chizu, and Jungle P to shame.

Lemme eat in your place, Gerchak. I'm 250lbs of love.

I dont mind Lobster nearly as much recently and he's occasionally entertaining. Well occasionally is a stretch, but ppl are too quick to pile on an easy target.
It's the literal translation of "kazaguruma." While Luffy did get the idea from Genzo's pinwheel (which is the same as the word for "windmill" in Japanese), it's a little big to have the name of the toy, don'tcha think?
I prefer pinwheel. If pinwheel is an accurate translation they should've stuck with it imho. It just fits the whole thing with Ginzo's cap,but windmill sounds abit random to me even if Luffy ment it as giant pinwheel or something, without the Japanese play on words, windmill doesnt sound as nice to me.
I like how the dub is getting better+Less edits=less complaunts. It shows that the complaints are super nitpicky but reasonable. The fans actually are pretty content when things are handled well like this episode. LAst time, the god lines were covered, horribly. it was ackward dialogue and just felt unnatural and random. This time it was handled very well. Although I would've like to see the original content of lines be left in , instead of completely changed.
Sanji saying he's the strongest would've been much funnier if he'd said something like :They're all kinds of kings. (Looks at Luffy) The king of poverty/shabbiness and (looks at Usopp) the king of Jinxes/crappy luck. Then they both shout: ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT US?!!?!
Still no major problems. I liked Chopper's voice here, for the majority of the episode. Zoro sounds completely cool and distinctive and surprisingly AGE APPROPRIATE now. Sabat actually sorta sounds cool and badass and pushing twenty now. Not like an old, gruff man or anything. Sanji however, fell back into the obnoxious gangster voice and Robin was perfect until Nami's less than flattering tarzan moment.
I didn't mind Robin teasing her,but the line should've been written more subtly. Robin's dialogue is stoic and ambiguous. You can't quite tell if she's being literal or sarcastic with the way she talks. "You could die" she'd say it in a w ay that'd make you think : is she being cold or actually trying to warn me? Nami's reaction of "IS that suppose to help me?!" didnt make sense because dub robin's voice was obviously teasing and not supportive. And after her joke about Nami being gutless, her tone changed right back to bitchy, obviously sarcastic and antagonistic, Robin. It was my only major gripe this episode.
Colleen's attack screams sound good. Can't wait to see Luffy in an actual combat situation. The Giant Jack seen is gonna be intense!!
Oh and Sabat's tarzan yell was perfect! I was shocked at how perfect he could pull off a tarzan yell and the joke that followed! AWESOME!

God dang it to heck, who would be such a dick that a forum member like Ms. Q would leave? If it was a man I say we manly men go kick his butt.

You know that old saying of "if you can't say something nice don't say anything?" Yeah I honestly think you need to take that advice.
I know you were being nice… or something equivelent to that if that's even possible and I appreciate what you were trying to do, but taking jabs at me for no reason is just plain immature, rude, and uncalled for.
Also while there are lots of things I would like to say about you. I'm just going to refrain from doing so as sinking to your level would just leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Anyways on to more important matters. Quexi left? That completely sucks. She was one of the most decent people in this thread. I never wanted her to leave. I hope she'll return soon.
