I honestly don't get what all the Shadow hate is about. I never had a prroblem with Shadow. He's nowhere close to being as emo as people on here seem to be making him out to be.
Video Game Franchises That Jumped the Shark

-
At least you could still call SH a Sonic game. Shadow's game was a sad attempt at making Sonic "edgy".
Don't most Sonic games that are spin-offs doomed to fail.
-
Shadow is just..why.
Sonic is the kind of series that before then never took itself seriously. It's a series of games dedicated to a mutated rodent saving his friends who were put into robots by a fat guy shaped as an egg. Then all of a sudden it's about the tragic past of a dark existence who was created as the ultimate lifeform who wants to get revenge because the government killed his human girlfriend.
See the difference?
Edit: For what it's worth, Sonic Heroes is…decent. It wasn't flat out amazing, but I didn't throw my hands up in disgust, either. What they did with Metal Sonic is bullshit, though.

Those are exactly my feelings for Sonic Heroes.
-
I thought Sonic Heroes was a generally fun game. I loved the fact that you could play 3 characters at once. I thought it was an interesting concept and I really felt that the gameplay was superb.
To be honest I really haven't run into a Sonic game that I've hated, and to be honest I really don't get what the hate is all about concerning the games that people actually do hate.

I don't see anyone complaining about Sonic SatAM and that was more than just a mutated rodent saving his friends who were turned into robots by a fat guy that looks like an egg.
Yeah, yeah I'm bringing up a cartoon I know, but lets face it. If you had no problems with SatAM there should be no problem with the Sonic games adding some plot.
-
I don't care what anyone says, Knuckles' music in SA2 was just awesome.

I bought the DVD set a while back. Nostalgia lied to me.
The series isn't as "dark" or "serious" as everyone said it was. Now that I'm older, I wonder what the hell made me think the series was any good considering it was a "story of the week" type of series with little to no continuation through out the series.
Muttski appears in one episode and completely vanishes from existance. Robotnik's beaten and everyone's happy, yet Sonic doesn't care about his dog.
YA HEAR THAT?
SONIC DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ROBOT DOGS!

The best series was AoSTH hands fucking down no more questions

Pfft. Obviously. Best Robotnik ever.
-
I thought SA2 was pretty good (Shadow aside), but after that was pretty much a steady downward slope for the 3D games.
Edit: Though I didn't actually mind Heroes THAT much. The only huge problem I had was how they shove the team system down your throat every three seconds.
-

I don't have any problems whatsoever with the games having plots. It's when the plots take themselves too seriously for what they are that bothers me. Sonic Adventure's plot I found decent, Sonic Rush is also a game that does a good job of not getting too full of itself. Hell, even SA2 has its moments. Shadow The Hedgehog onward is complete bullshit though. Sonic 06 is probably the best example of everything that's wrong with Sonic today.
OH, I did like Secret Ring's story. Mainly for Sonic making Erazor his bitch.
-
and to be honest I really don't get what the hate is all about concerning the games that people actually do hate.
Weve only been explaining it for five pages. How many more times are needed before we link to Deviantart and seal the deal?

Maybe because there are games out there that actually suck? Just throwing that possibility out there. Sonic games in general since I wanna say SA2, but it likely started since SA1, have been shitty. The ideas that have been put in these games have been horrible. They've been giving decent legitimate reasons for why these games in question have been so horrible, and saying "I don't get it" and "I think they're good" isn't making a case for why they don't suck.

Well just saying they suck because they suck, or making up some reason like "it leads to people being furries" doesn't really make a case for why they suck either.
I don't care if Shadow was an emo fag. I never saw him as one in the first place. I don't care if the 3-D games lead to tons of bad fanart and fanfics (in response to what Zephos said btw) the fandom is the last thing I should be concerned with when it comes to video games. As for the voice acting I'm just pretty much used to it being horrible now and I doubt it's going to improve any in the future. As for everything else considering that I find the games fun to play, and don't think they suck because of the reasons you may think they suck. It's kinda obvious why I just "don't get it."
and yeah the sonic games have glitches in them. What game doesn't? Doesn't keep you from being able to play them.
Heck why don't we bring out an actual series that jumped the shark.
Donkey Kong Country.
Because every game after DK64 just plain sucked, which is a shame since it was a series that I actually loved to play.
-
Donkey Kong 64 is not part of the Donkey Kong Country series. o_o
-
@Cap'n:
The best series was AoSTH hands fucking down no more questions
I concur. Damn was that a good show.
-
Fun fact: if you actually touching the controller (y'know, trying to play the game) puts you at a higher risk of dying than if you just hold down the forward button, the gameplay isn't good at all.
-
Donkey Kong 64 is not part of the Donkey Kong Country series. o_o
Well, it's a continuation of the series, so I guess it kind of counts. Donkey Kong is a touchy subject for me. I really dislike the direction Nintendo Tokyo took with it in Jungle Beat, but KIng of Swing and Jungle Climber are alright. At least they have DKC characters in them, instead of outright saying they suck. (Hi Jungle Beat developers.)
Sigh..
-

Yes, all are critiscism s have been simply saying the word "suck" and furries.
Every single post.
Thanks for showing you actually read them.I don't care if Shadow was an emo fag. I never saw him as one in the first place. How about plot, controls, tone, voices, level design, concept, or no matter what agme you play do you visualize it as a blank bunch of pixels with no sound that you move around?
As for the voice acting I'm just pretty much used to it being horrible now and I doubt it's going to improve any in the future.
So in other words you agree with us. What are you argueing here?
Nobody gives a shit if you can personally stand them.As for everything else considering that I find the games fun to play, and don't think they suck because of the reasons you may think they suck. It's kinda obvious why I just "don't get it."
To not get it implies your completely clueless to what were talking about.
If your not going to argue your point we really don't need to hear you bitch about people hating your gun yiffing games.and yeah the sonic games have glitches in them. What game doesn't? Doesn't keep you from being able to play them.
Obviously were not saying they're like other games. Why would you even think we were?
-

Sigh..
Jungle Beat was actually pretty good.
Bongo Blast, however, is another story… :getlost:
-
Eh, Jungle Beat didn't do anything for me. I felt dirty playing it. (It's not the most horrible game ever in all existence, but I feel it's really overrated for what it is.)
edit yeaah: I haven't played Barrel Blast yet, though reviewers are slamming it I hear. After the Diddy Kong Racing DS fiasco I'm not too inclined to believe anything they say.
-
It's mainly because of how poor of a job Nintendo did with it.
The Wii remote + nunchuck setup felt horribly tacked on and as if it was a last minute decision. The game was obviously meant to make use of the bongos, but somehow ditched that option.
The game REALLY has that feel that it should've been a GameCube game, considering they made the last minute decision to throw it on the Wii instead.
-
Oh well. At least Jungle Climber is good.
-
every game after DK64 just plain sucked
sigh Too true.
I really wish they would make another Donkey Kong platformer. -
Eh, the first DK/Diddy level in Brawl is probably as close as we'll ever get. For some reason Nintendo (and a lot of the gaming community, I've noticed) don't consider DK that important of a franchise nowadays.
-
DK's pretty much been resorted to being the party game character.
Donkey Konga 1, 2 and 3
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Donkey Kong's Barrel Blast -
I would have liked more Donkey Kong Country platform games. Heck even if it was a Diddy Kong game it would be pretty cool.
It just sucks that DK has basically been reduced to having games like Donkey Konga, which is no different from your other instrument peripheral games like Guitar Hero.
I expected more from DK.
How about plot, controls, tone, voices, level design, concept, or no matter what agme you play do you visualize it as a blank bunch of pixels with no sound that you move around?
I've liked the plots of the 3-D Sonic games. I've also liked the tone, level designs, and concept. I always felt the levels were fun to explore or just plain blast through at super speed during time trials. Even with the emblem hunts the levels were a blast to go through.
I admit that the Kunckles/Rouge levels were a little boring, but in my view they didn't hurt the game too much. I still had fun playing the levels even though it was basically trial and error to find the emerald fragments. Besides I liked playing as Knuckles and Rouge so outside of the time constraints I had no problem with the levels.
As for the controls. Yeah they can get frustrating sometimes, but not enough to hurt the experience. Besides most platforming games have somewhat bad controls and a frustrating camera system. So I don't think it's fair to single Sonic out on that.
To not get it implies your completely clueless to what were talking about.
If your not going to argue your point we really don't need to hear you bitch about people hating your gun yiffing games.Like hearing you bitch about Shadow the Hedgehog being a "gun yiffing game" is any better, but it's nice to see that you believe that your opinions are far more important than mine. Also just because I say I don't get your reasons for hating something doesn't mean I'm clueless as to what you're talking about. It just means I don't understand your reasons because I don't hate Sonic games for those reasons. That's all I've been saying.
Now if you're done giving me attitude you can go crawl back under your rock.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Donkey Kong's Barrel BlastEh, I'd say Barrel Blast is at least trying something. I mean, at least it has Donkey Kong characters, which everyone is seemingly in a hurry to forget
-
DK's in better shape than someone like Waluigi at least
I still need to try Barrel Blast.
-
Eh, I'd say Barrel Blast is at least trying something. I mean, at least it has Donkey Kong characters, which everyone is seemingly in a hurry to forget
Damn, that reviewer hated it.
-
I was gonna call that too.
-
I thought Jungle Beat was awesome. Sure, it used alot of new weird characters but it was fun which is better then new characters, not fun.
It was kinda short though, and my hands hurt.
Barrel Blast has playable King K. Rool and Klump, so it's a step in the right direction character wise atleast.
I really need to DL DCK 1 and 2 for Christmas.
-
I would've like Jungle Beat better if it didn't make my hands hurt. XD
Like others have said, I'm hoping for a new 2-D or 3-D platformer to come out.
-
I've liked the plots of the 3-D Sonic games.
:I
I've also liked the tone,
Overserious weeaboo drama?
level designs, and concept.
The concept of Shadow The Hedgehog even?
As for the controls. Yeah they can get frustrating sometimes, but not enough to hurt the experience. Besides most platforming games have somewhat bad controls and a frustrating camera system. So I don't think it's fair to single Sonic out on that.
I don't know what platformers your playing but I can't say I follow.
Like hearing you bitch about Shadow the Hedgehog being a "gun yiffing game" is any better, but it's nice to see that you believe that your opinions are far more important than mine.
Because I totally said that.
Go back and reread what you quoted. Also just because I say I don't get your reasons for hating something doesn't mean I'm clueless as to what you're talking about. It just means I don't understand your reasons because I don't hate Sonic games for those reasons. That's all I've been saying.
:I

Girlfriend, don't even.
-
Eh, I thought Jungle Beat was an awesome platformer on its own, sure, its tiring and kinda short, but its so damn addicting trying to get platinum medals.
-
The Ninja Turtles games have jumped the shark, and it shocks me that the older, better games were never remade, even though the show caused a major TMNT revival.
-
TMNT games started JTS once 4Kids got involved.
-
I agree that Donkey Kong has definitely jumped the shark. It's abandoned the awesome platformers for gimmicky music games. I guess that's probably because Rare doesn't work with Nintendo anymore, which is a damn shame.
Then there's Star Fox, which didn't take long to jump the shark at all. Star Fox adventures was definitely the jumping point, but I must say that I was fairly impressed with Star Fox Command for the DS. If Nintendo can keep this up they may be able to redeem the series.
Also I think Kirby jumped the shark around Nightmare in Dreamland. Yes, it's classic Kirby, but ever since that game all the games have just been rehashing of the same old s***. Nothin new except some new (standard-designed) levels with some gimmicks and new weird powers.
Now, I'm in the minority who doesn't think Sonic has really "jumped the shark". I think the problem with Sega is that they just can't seem to adapt to the new systems and inevitably produce games with lousy graphics and poor controls (which I still don't fully understand since they've had so long to figur this out). Admittedly, the new Sonic games aren't as much about speed, but I think have good concepts, level designs, gameflow, and enough "speed" to live up to the franchise.
-

It's not like DK64 was a classic at least not in my mind.
-
@Sandai:
It's not like DK64 was a classic at least not in my mind.
Well, to me it was.
-
I'm not sure DK can be said to have jumped the shark, because there haven't been any standard platformers since DK64. Those shitty remakes of the DKC games don't really count.
-
Sonic went downhill after Chaotix for 32x
The Shining games went downhill after Shining Force 2
Pokemon went downhill after Gold/Silver/Crystal (yes, i said it :P)
The Mana games went downhill after Seiken Densetu 3.
Zelda went really downhill after the Windwaker… TP just didnt have the epic feel all the others Zelda's had. And PH was good but not that great. And i know some people think FF and Megaman are getting bad.. But i still enjoy each one of them.
-
Well… the last true Megaman game was Megaman 8 for psx. All the others are spinoff series, so I find it hard to argue whether or not megaman has jumped the shark.
-
I think Megaman actually got better with the Megaman X games. I first hated it, now i think those are the best in the series. Megaman Zero and ZX are good to, but not as good as the X-series. Battle network is awesome to, it's so addicting. The only megaman game i don't really like is Legends, which was ok, but certainly not great.
-
Yeah, I think the X games were better too. The NES Megaman games were really glitchy and actually a lot harder. And yeah, I guess Megaman hasn't really "jumped the shark" since the regular and X games have been pretty much discontinued. Well, except I will say that the new X games (7 and 8) were really not that great. Also, I haven't play Megaman Zero and ZX and all that. But then again, I guess the point is that the Battle Network games are part of the Megaman franchise and Capcom has chosen to forego the platformers for the RPGs, so I guess it could be said that it's jumped the shark.
-
Virtual On died when Marz came out.
-
I think that all the Megaman games have been solidly good and fun. I wasn't a fan of X5/X6 and I definitely hated X7, but I thought that X8 was decently fun and a good way to end the series. (Not story-wise.) I enjoyed Legends, sometimes I feel like I'm the only one. I really wanted a sequel. And, though a spinoff, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne was great. I'm a closet MMBN fan, I've enjoyed each and every one of them. I absolutely hate this whole Star Force thing that's going on now however,
-
It'd be cool if Capcom made two more Megaman games and be done with it. First being Megaman IX, somehow connecting the Classic and X series after all this time. The other would be Megaman Legends 3.
No more after that, but of course that'll never happen (and yes, I know about Inafune wanting to make a sequel to Legends). :silly:
