@EvilGamerX:
If you use Bittorrent… don't get retarded and be lost on how to download shit. HTTP Tunnel or something is the way to go.
Don't bring too much shit with you, enjoy life and your surroundings. Get out, explore. Unless you are in a shitty place like Providence (which I am sadly).
Thanks for the download tip, I was actually worried about that.
The campus is pretty active. Its a pretty big school. Major NCAA football school so should be lots of different people to meet.
@Cap'n:
Try to get in touch with your roommate beforehand and arrange who will bring what
Jersey knit sheets are fucking amazing
I hope I can, apparently I can pick a roommate at the end of this month. Seems last minute though. I'll look into the sheets.
@fin:
Buy earplugs, because your roommate will probably be really annoying half the time. And noise cancelling headphones.
Don't forget to bring things like can openers so you can make soup when you don't feel great and don't want to go to the dining hall. That never even occurred to me my freshman year until I bought a can of soup and realized once I got back to my room that I couldn't open it.
Rugs are also good. Dorm floors are usually pretty gross.
I actually would overlook something like a can-opener. Though I guess I could buy one.
Thanks for the rug tip. How did you spread them around your room?
@Malintex_Terek:
Make sure you know how to do basic house stuff like wash clothes, clean dishes, etc. or you'll look like a fool during the first weekend when you bleach your colours or serve food on dishes that haven't been scrubbed properly.
If you can cook, do it, since 90% of college kids had their parents feed them or they buy stuff.
Also, get an alarm. Not a cellphone, get one of those mechanical bell alarms.
I can do household choirs, thanks to my mother haha. Not a great cook, but I have a Foreman grill for chicken, which is the only thing I don't eat raw for the most part.
I have considered the meal plan, curious to why you gave this advice. Same with the mechanical clock, is a clock radio bad?
@Gorlom:
If the shower is used by more people then you and your roomate get some bath slippers that you wear while showering. those things can get pretty gross sometimes.
I actually bought some today, thanks.
Some questions I have.
Will it seem cheesy if I bring cleaning products or a duster with me?
I don't play video games much but I'm wondering if I should bring mine because I because I do get into them once I start playing. Or will enough people have their own for it not to really matter?
How difficult did any of you find it difficult to discuss rules with your roommate? Like who can visit and stuff over property.
Sorry for the doublepost.
