It's brilliant, really. He starts out with efficient and simple plans, but due to L's meddling, he starts to think in overly abstract ways, coming up with really stupid plans, eventually leading to him getting caught due to one being oh-so stupid and convoluted.
Death Note

@Tokoro:
Whenever one makes a deal with the devil, particularly in fiction, they will most likely get their due. Doesn't mean we can't follow them until the end.
-
I thought the best thing in the whole series was Light going on a rant for five chapters about how INGENIOUSLY EVIL his plan was, only for it to blow up in his face and cause him to have to create another retarded plan.
He's like an incompetent Aizen without the corny '80s hair cut.

Yeah that's why I said "most likely". Daniel Webster is a sly person…probably would have beaten Ryuk too.
-
@Cap'n:
The manga ending is awesome
I love all of the butthurt teenagers that whine about it
God help you if you are talking about me.
-
@Cap'n:
I like how so many people refuse to believe that the entire series was just setting up Light's fall
I mean it was pretty obvious from the beginning
That doesn't make the ending any less sucky
Actually, since the author ad it planned like that since day one, makes it even worse.
I might not have had as big of a deal with the ending if Light hadn't been made into a partial retard
-
I didn't really like the second half in the manga either, but I think the anime improved on it a bit by speeding up the pace and cutting out a lot of the pointless dialog that plagued it.
Too bad they changed the ending. I would love to see the manga's ending animated.
-
@Tokoro:
Yeah that's why I said "most likely". Daniel Webster is a sly person…probably would have beaten Ryuk too.
I always loved how he saved his client's soul from the devil by talking about how awesome America is.
-
I'm somewhat of a fan
Although the series would have been much better had it ended after the death of L.
Meh, I would have preferred evil triumphing over good.
Like the live action movie right? Yeah I guess it would have been good had it ended that way.
but yeah I never really heard anyone who didn't claim it was the best series ever because it's a "deep psychological thriller that really makes you think." That's kinda why I said that. Not saying that there aren't any, but I guess those fans just aren't as vocal.
-
@Cap'n:
And RASPUTIN WAS A VAMPIRE TOO
Wow I thought it was just lame action chick with Crispin Freeman playing another guy who suffered from a lolita complex. Now I'm intrigued.
-
I wouldn't call it deep, but it did have some pretty clever stuff in the first few volumes. Of course, then it realized that it was interesting and was ruined by trying too hard.
I have seen only a few minutes of the Death Note movie, and I can confidently say that it's terrible.
-
but I guess those fans just aren't as vocal.
Got to an all DN fan forum
The people there are idiotic, like L. is there messiah or some shit.

The ending is better then the manga's, but just the whole Idea of live action anime is pretty retarded.

Go to any all ____ forums and you'll be ashamed to like whatever said thing is.
Take Arlong Park for example.

Bleach Asylum
It made made me hate the little part of Bleach I liked
And from what I've seen, Arlong Park is a lot less retarded then a lot of anime forums.

Oh yes, when compared to large scale trainwrecks like Naruto Fan, Bleach Asylum, or the huge number of "PEACH IS SO SEXEH" and "I WANT TO GET SCRWED LIKE AN ANIMAL BY MEWTWO" forums. But we do have our fair share of retardation.

Without mangafan1, the Naruto thread would probably suck.

Just wait till the new OP dub catches fire, tards are gonna swarm this place. Starting to see a bit of it now in the Anime section.

That's actually one of my biggest fears. I don't want this place to become like retarded Naruto Forum #131239. I can see it now.
"wen duz luffy beet king enel, he iz soo cool. omg zolo iz soo hawt, dis show iz awwsum."
-
Since Arlong Park is such a huge One Piece site, do you guys think there are or have been any spies from 4kids or Viz spying on us?:ninja:
In seriousness I kind of doubt that One Piece's popularity will boom to epic proportions any time soon.
-
Well Mato is here, so maybe we gotta a couple of spies.
-
The people there are idiotic, like L. is there messiah or some shit.
I can remember somebody in another forum went~
"OMFG I PISSED AND CREAMED MY PANTS WHEN I READ 107!!1!!!!111!!!11!!!!!111! lolololololo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
-

Well there were tards when the 4Piece dub started too…or at least people popping up who didn't want hammer guns and poison suction darts. But with a legit dub, now we may see more "intelligent stupidity".

If you have children near by, send them off to their rooms, immediately.

Wow, Bleachasylum is moving up the ranks fast it seems.
-
I'm actually thinking about posting there, curious to see how ol' WAEFlles(yeah…..)
will fare in such a place. -
I'm not sure if I'll like the anime after reading the manga…seems like a hard thing to pull off. I do want to see the EPIC potato chip eating though.
So what is the English voice cast?

- Rem – Colleen Wheeler
- Soichiro Yagami – Chris Britton
- Matsuda – Vincent Tong
- Mogi – John Murphy

-
I liked Near and Mello…am I the only one who liked them?
The anime ending was...meh...I wish they would of kept the whole Light begging for his life thing instead of him dieing all dramaticly
Death Note rules!
-
Isn't Brian Drummond the guy who played Vegeta in the Ocean dub? Don't recognize anybody else (although that may be a good thing)
-
The anime ending was…meh...I wish they would of kept the whole Light begging for his life thing instead of him dieing all dramaticly
That's what made the anime ending slightly more bearable then the manga ending.
Like, 'swimming' is fine, but Light begging for his life and shit, just seemed like a lil to much.
-
@Cap'n:
lol yeah, the Rothschilds.
But this is the part I was trying to highlight:
And RASPUTIN WAS A VAMPIRE TOO
LOL
Thing I want to know is how you watched the show long enough to figure out it was a gold mine
There were new evil German Jew banker vampires at the ball in the episode I watched half of.
-
That's what made the anime ending slightly more bearable then the manga ending.
Like, 'swimming' is fine, but Light begging for his life and shit, just seemed like a lil to much.
WHHHHATTTT????? Light desereved what he was getting and I loved how he fell apart! It showed how much of a coward he truly was!
The anime ending made it end like he was a good guy like some tragic character…it was..like i said...meh!
-
WHHHHATTTT????? Light desereved what he was getting and I loved how he fell apart! It showed how much of a coward he truly was!
Except for the fact he never showed any signs of being a coward throughout the entire series, a nut job yea, but not a coward.
The anime ending made it end like he was a good guy like some tragic character…it was..like i said...meh!
It was tragic
The Death Note ruined the kids fucking life
-

I always thought that was the point.
Basically death note gets you to side with "Hitler".
He was a crazy bastard for half the series. People just viewed his sadistic faces as "badass"
and his reaction to L. appearing on TV at the beginning was alot like his actions at the end. (Didn't he freak out and kill the fake L., and then freak out for falling for such an obvious trap?)
-

Which is why I have no problem with him freaking out and rolling around on the floor.
But hunkering down and begging Ryuk for his life, just kinda came outta nowhere.
It was when L. came up to him at the ceremony speech for the highest test scorers and told him who he was.
Then he got home and all but broke his desk in half.
-
Didn't he not take the shinigami eyes because he wanted to live a long life.
I think it's pretty obvious that he didn't want to die and freaked out.
So begging Ryuk didn't seem out of character at all imo. It was his last option.
-
In the end Light was just a little boy who wanted to be immortal and him freaking out for his life wasn't out of character in my book!..but the anime was diffrent..all they did was try to please all the fan boys who didn't like the ending…it was..meh lol
I still think Near wrote Mikami's name in the death note to test his theory on Light being Kira tho...in the end Near is the real killer LOL
-
Why would Near do that? Thats contradictory.
-
Got to an all DN fan forum
The people there are idiotic, like L. is there messiah or some shit.
But… that's how pretty much all the DN fans I've ever seen think. They all hate Light, they all hate Near, they all obsessively love L, they think Death Note is this great psychological thriller that makes you think thus they consider it the greatest manga of all time. Am I missing anything? As I said though I'm just thinking it's because those people are more vocal than the actual fans with sense.
-
@Natty:

Because I think Mikami could of told the diffrence between a real and a fake notebook..even though it looked EXACTLY like each other I think he was smart enough to tell the diffrence..Near had to get Mikami there to prove Light was Kira so why not write his name down in the notebook…that proves why Mikami killed himself in prison that couple days later too...Near is a monster...do anything you can to win even if you have to take a couple of pieces off of the chess board when nobody is looking...basterd!

It was that he wanted to reign over the new world as a god longer, not because he wanted to live longer.

Pretty much

Mikami killed himself because he was fucking insane.

Yeah, but by doing that, Near would have been no better than Light; and after all that "trouble" of trying to catch Light why would he go and kill someone? Though L wanted to do that, at that point, Near would only contradict himself. Unless the author really wanted to do that.
-
But you could already tell that Near wanted to do what ever he could to win…he was like that at everything was he? I just don't know..LOL LOOK AT ME sturrn up predictions on a dead manga lol
-
This post is deleted!
-
@Natty:

No, it's not.
To Near, everything is a win-or-lose game. L was more than willing to use the Death Note to prove that Light and Misa were Kira, so it's not far fetched at all to believe that Near would use the Death Note to force Mikami's hand and "win" the scenario.
-
@raj:
- Light - Brad Swaile
Great, now I'll be picturing Light as Moose from Ranma 1/2.
- L- Alessandro Juliani
Don't think I've ever heard this guy before… Well, he's got an interesting resume...
-
I hope they don't edit Mikami's EPIC BLEEDING DEATH scene
-
They probably won't on adult swim since they show so much blood on that blood+ show
-
Because the ending sucked and Light begging for his life is totally out of character.
Agreed, Okay, he was a complete psychotic case in the entire manga, true, but begging for his life kind of de-lowered him, even if he is low as an anti hero. It's true Light behaves like some 1337 ego-ist with his "I'll be God of the New World." crap and all his other actions, but in terms of personality and dealing with situations, the begging felt OOC. The anime did do it right actually, kept him right in character at least in the hour of his death, plus his beggining and screaming to Ryuuk would have been annoying if they animated it.
Oh and anyone who calls me a Light fanboy-FUCK OFF. I'm not.
