That's pretty much what the games are
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3
-
-
The graphics were… alright. The problem I guess was the lack of substance to the game. Same with T1. The problem is that they never make the game feel truly 'complete' until the 3rd installment, then they start all over.
You have to remember this. When Budokai came out, it was the first Japanese made DBZ game to be released in 5 years (six for Japan). It was also the very first major release 3D AND fighting game for the DB franchise released in the US (Final Bout was a minor release). At the time, it was great. It was the first time we saw the Dragon Ball characters in a 3D game that wasn't broken and made you wanna throw your system.
Last I read, this is the last DBZ game period. It would make the most sense but who knows.
False. There's word of one heading for the PS3 and then there's also Dragon Ball Online, which might be coming to the Xbox 360 as the staff has set up applications for developers needed for a console (being the 360).
Dragon Ball games have been coming out even after 1997, when the franchise ended in Japan. It's not going anywhere for a while.
-
Even when it came out I thought Budokai was shitty.
-
I thought the whole 3D story mode cut scenes in Budokai were superior to those in the second and third Budokai games, and even the Sparking! games. Budokai 2 used an awful game board method, while Budokai 3 just used typical cutout frames.
Sparking! and its sequels seem to just reuse in game models without much difference in the models unless they're important scenes where the characters have to move differently (such as Goku vs Vegeta).
-
Too bad I care much more about gameplay than cutscenes of anime scenes I've watched to death
-
@Cap'n:

Don't recall seeing Cell absorbing Kuririn and having to fight Yamcha and Tenshinhan. :P Seeing the what-if stories were great.

I thought that was the only what-if story?
-
Nope. There was also Freeza becoming immortal and Vegeta turning Super Saiyan after Goku turns down the offer to join him and reminds him of what he does to his partners (which in itself was a parody of Goku's "ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT KURIRIN?!" against Freeza).

Too bad that sucked too
The only What If stories I really enjoyed were in this game.

Ah, I see.
I looked them up. The Vegeta one sounded interesting, but the Freeza one was just… dull. I mean, there's nothing that really makes it seem worth playing.
-
While that is the case, it's merely the whole idea of seeing the characters act out of character in a humorous manner that stands out for some of these What-If stories.
Then you have some decently thought up ones (like Sparking! NEO which had Zarbon planning to double cross Freeza and ending up meeting his doom by Namek blowing up and him being the only idiot left).

Yeah, that's the problem with the Freeza one. It just shows us what would happen if Freeza got immortality, up to the point where he leaves Namek. Nothing more than 'Mwahahaha I'm immortal now! Time to do bad things!'.

I personally enjoyed the Raditz What-If as well. Very interesting.
-
The what-ifs were like a five minute portion of the game, were pretty dumb, and couldn't be played as without a cheat.
So they didn't add any value to the game imo.
-
It's more interesting than realizing you're basically playing the same storyline you played several times before only with prettier graphics and more characters.
-
I got BT3 since it came out and ever since then I've still been playing it. It's so damn fun. My main is surprisingly Early Goku even though while I was still trying out Very Hard mode from the beginning I felt like he sucked, now I use him more than I do Future Gohan. Early Goku's combos are fun to do.
-
My main character is Akkuman.
Sometimes Hatchan, Arale, Cyborg Tao Pai Pai, or Piccolo Daimao.
-
I've been meaning to ask, have they ever sorted out the same voice for different transformations thing? Most notably, Cell. Despite his different forms he retained his first form voice in all of them. I recall in Tenkaichi 1 he had the proper voice for special attacks, but kept his imperfect voice for everything else like in all previous games.
-
Uh I've only played the JP version so I don't know.
And as far as I know the English version isn't out yet.
-
What about Tenkaichi 2?
-
Same story. And that was a while back.
-
Seems Atari and Funimation are having a spat over the DBZ video game license.

Here's to hoping that the game gets released on time, or at least FUNi turns the project over to Bandai, who handles DB merchandise outside of the US.
-

Sorta. He had different voices, but his grunts were all the same. This is largely the fault of the English version giving him different voices; if you play with Japanese vocals, it's the same grunts in all forms as well. But, since Norio Wakamoto doesn't do a different voice for each form of Cell, there's no problem. It was the same in BT2. But, I play with Japanese voices on, so it's never been a problem for me.
-
Sorry to bump (but then again, the games out in English now), but will the original japanese music be in? It really grew on me and I was wanting to know if it'd be in.
-
I been meaning to ask about that so is all the music in the american
version of Sparking Neo altered from the japanese version, that would really
suck but it wouldn't be thay surprising since they removed We Gotta Power
from the first Sparking game. -
How many Dragon ball characters are in this game?
-
Apparently these are the characters from DB that are in the game
- General Blue
- Tambourine
- Yamcha
- Chi Chi (kid) (don't know if Ma Junior arc Chi Chi is in the game)
- Android 8
- Akkuman
- Arale (obviously questionable)
- Piccolo Daimao
- Nam
Don't know about if that's the complete list, it would kinda of suck
if DB Tien,Krillin,Murasaki & Colonel Silver aren't in the game. -
No Japanese BGM from Sparking METEOR in Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Sucks, yeah. BUT, the music in BT3 kicks BT2's ass HEAVILY. The music actually sounds GOOD. o_O; And I hated the music to BT2. So that's a good thing.
As for Dragon Ball characters…
-Akkuman
-Artificial Human #8
-Chi-Chi (Kid)
-Cyborg Tao Pai Pai
-General Blue
-Grandpa Gohan
-Great Ape (Applies to Kid Goku and Gohan)
-Muten Roshi (Plus Jackie Chun alternate costume)
-Namu
-Norimaki Arale
-Piccolo _Daimao
-_Pilaf Machine
-Son Goku (Kid; Has blue gi worn prior to training with Roshi as an alternate costume)
-Tambourine
-Tenshinhan (Has Z moves, though)
-Tao Pai Pai
-Yajirobe (He was introduced in DB, afterall)
-Yamcha (Sorta; Still Z Yamcha but has DB costume) -
With the hell is with Atari though I mean it's bad enough you got the game going by the title Budokai Tenkaichi even though these game are much different from the Budokai game of before, now you get get the games original music back, oh well we still have the japanese voices so it's not a complete loss.
-
Meh, that didn't bother me as much as the fact that Atari botched the openings to Budokai 2 and 3 by using the non-lyrical versions, while Bandai-Namco in Europe used the lyrical ones like in Japan.
Seriously, what the hell? Is Hironobu Kageyama too extreme for them? :(
-
So anyone have a torrent link of the US version? Too lazy to buy it, but I'll download it and give it a shot.
-
I think it was more along the lines of they didn't wanna leave it in Japanese and they were too lazy to dub them.
-

Despite the fact that they had some Japanese named attacks. :P
Ah another thing. The hell is up with them STILL calling Tao Pai Pai by the name "General Tao?" FUNi already renamed him to Mercenary Tao in the Dragon Ball dub after the fuckup in Z. Why the hell go with "General Tao" when he's not even part of the Red Ribbon Army? :getlost:

I thought it was because the japanese version of the game had all that stuff being added on top of the American version.
-
Except that the openings were all done by Hironobu Kageyama already. The Budokai series and the Sparking series are both products of Japan. It's just that the Budokai games were first released in the US. The songs were already recorded and everything.
-
Oh, either which way this has to come to end (even if some of the songs in Sparking Neo were good) I mean DBZ ain't the only victim of this kind of stuff.
-
Wow alot of Dragon ball characters…..well im buying this game. Is the story mode in BT3 just like BT2 or is it Different?
-
From what I'm gathering, it's quite different. You no longer always play as the good guys. Which is good cause it was retarded winning a fight that the character lost in during the anime and then seeing the next scene showing your character beaten.
Instead, you always play as the winning side. So when Vegeta takes on Freeza, you take the role as Freeza instead of Vegeta.
Also, during certain portions of fights, you'll be required to press a button that appears on screen to trigger a short scene for an event. Like when Piccolo takes on second form Freeza. After a while, the command will come up. Activate it and it'll go into a small in-game cutscene with Freeza then transforming into his third form.
-
So…anybody got this for Wii?
Maybe we could get some matches online.
-
I got this for the Wii, unfornately I'm not that good and the online in this game is unplayable. If they fix it, I'll definitely play with you.
-
For me, online lags a lot. People are also total noobs and use fusions and GT characters. I'm looking forward to powering up my custom Tao Pai Pai.
-
God forbid they may actually like the GT or fusion characters…
Anyway, no online for me until the fix. By the way, fuck Atari for the run-around it's been giving regarding the lag.
-
Or maybe it's the fact that their ultra attacks are immense energy balls compared to other characters. Hm?
-
…What?!
16 confused characters
-
Okay I'll make it easier for you champ. Unfortunately, I think players feel more confident when they're playing with stronger characters, characters who have ultra attacks more devastating than any other characters Pre-Buu saga. Hm?
-
Condesending, are we? Then let me make this easier for you; many people like the GT characters. Personally, I like Baby more than any other character, so I use Baby. You're not more of a man, or a better player, because you use Dragonball characters. You go ahead and believe what you want, but that's a fact.
And for the record, of the time I spent online, barely anyone used GT characters. 90% of people online use the Saiyan characters. Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, etc. The top ranked guy uses Trunks, for god's sake.
-
fag fight fag fight
-
From what I've played, the most frequent character I've faced was Omega Shenron. It might seem like I'm coming off as a dick here, but from personal experience, this is what I've encountered most of the time. Super Gogeta has also been a constant opponent.
And since Cap'n's calling me a fag, I'll avoid the rest of this crap.
-
And honestly, the Sparking games have the shittiest balance ever
It pretty much winds down to SS4 Gogeta.
-
Yeah, his combos are practically insane. It's awesome we get some Dragonball characters, but when they only have three health bars, it's kinda rape. I guess that's where the Evolution Z comes in.
I doubt the new game, despite the better graphics, is going to be any different.
