I don't get why they changed her name. They could've romanized it to Patty or something. I did like her little song though, it was too cute not to.
To be honest I find the dub to be kinda lame.

Patie's/Penny's song in the recent episode was so cute.
~You can call me Penny~Pretty pretty Penny~
But it was funny, she got so demonic when she figures out Zatch doesn't remember her. She's also a water element Mamodo.
Wait, they showed that episode last night? Aw man, I missed it! I wanted to see how they translated Patie's theme song!
@Cap'n:

One of the main problems with dubs is that most of the Japanese jokes are taken out. I can see why, though. Doesn't Gash speak in old Japanese. Some trolls on ANN were bashing it because of that, and they bitched about Gash Bell being too much like Pokemon.

Well, here's a video file that contains Penny's/Patie's song in the dub.
They handled it really good. It's soooo cute.
My only guess as to why "Patie" becomes "Penny" is because of the song. Its just easier to have a pun by calling her "Pretty Penny" than merely "Pretty Patie"…
Well, if you've been keeping count, that's two of the songs in the manga kept in the dub anime...well in one way or another. (the first is a semi-win, since they kept the tune to "Chichi wo Moge", but made it "Hey, Hey, Lets Dance All Day"...dang censors) The next one will actually be in about ten episodes or so, with another few episodes after that...
! TOUCH MY HEART, Very Melon!!!!!!
And as for the lack of coverage by the mainstream American anime fan…when in doubt, blame the "hyped anime". (the ones that pretty much guaranteed success even before they were picked up in this country...the FMA and Naruto of the world)
Very Melon was a funny theme song. But, I wonder what they'll have Victorim say instead of "Very shit!".
@Senshi:

They're probably going to adapt Victorim's explicitive…since the dub is only playing with censors instead of destroying them, they have to draw the line somewhere.
Heh...its amazing that a mangaka like Raiku-sama can make such weird songs that end up getting animated and even released on the CDs.
It's CATCH MY HEART, i think.
@Cap'n:
It's CATCH MY HEART, i think.
Yeah I screwed it up. Sorry bout that. (though the funny thing is that the song actually first showed up as an omake, but was incorperated into the story into the anime. The next actual song that's in the plot is "Umagon Rock", the one Gash does just after the horse Mamono's first fight with his bookkeeper [kept censored for those who don't know])
@Cap'n:
It's CATCH MY HEART, i think.
Really? Because the Gash Bell soundtrack I downloaded with that song lists it as "Very Melon".
That's the name of the song, but he says "CATCH MY HEART!" throughout the song.
VERY!
VERY!
Catch my heart very melon!
(Very Melon)
Catch my heart very melon!
Melts so gently in my mouth, very melon!
(Very Melon!)
Ah one-two one-twooo, very melon
(Very Melon!)
Brahhhhgh!
Brahhhhgh!
Very Melon!
(Very Melon!)
I'll have some more!
HOLY CRACK, EPISODE EIGHTY TWO WAS KICK ARSE.
…
Unbelievable. I never knew Gash Bell got so...good! I must finds subtitled episodes. Now!
hint hint
…
It's hard to believe Digimon Savers usurped Gash Bell...maybe it's because Gakky is among the voice cast. o_O
Well, just for people to know…
Toonami won't be showing Zatch Bell for awhile because it seems as if CN put Teen Titans reruns in it's place.
It'll come back, though.
I just watched the ending raw i had no clue what was going on but, did
! kiyomaro die?! It looked like he just passed out but. Also is that how it ends with just kiyomaro and gash on the beach. Or did the person who uploaded it just cut off somepart at the end. Also was gash bell now the king. I am confused
You had my hopes up there, for a while (not that I hate Kiyo; quite the contrary, I just think that would be a perfect ending, a la "Oh Captain, My Captain!" by WW). But, no; I assume that gigantic mamono is the same one that turned all the Millennium Mamono to stone; Gash simply kicked its arse, and Kiyo fainted from lack of energy.
The real ending is…well, now that I think of it, Kiyo could have died...the "epilogue" of what occured afterward was very surrealistic. In it, Gash and Kiyo are wandering across endless grassy hills, teasing one another, when Sheri & Brago show up. They exchange words and battle; and so the Anime ends.
A bit like Shaman King's ending, really, but I really do not feel bad about it; no matter who wins the mamono battle now will become a "king king/queen" because Zofis/Lord is dead (I assume). I like the surreal ending; did Kiyo die? We'll never know, but such a possibility makes this ambiguous ending SATISFYING, unlike some Anime (glares at SK and IY >.>; ).

! Actually, the end of the Gash anime is less ambiguous than you think. Basically what happened was this: when Toei decided to pull the plug, the series was still in the middle of an arc that had been going on for a while now in the manga. A quick summary from the splitting point for the manga: The giant Mamono tower, Faudo, had just been reawakened by the lion/centaur Mamono, Riou, and several followers of human and Mamono (including a few brainwashed bookkeepers, like Wonlei's bookkeeper Li Yen) and was about to be used at his bidding. In the manga version of what happens next, Kyomaro and Gash fight Riou and his bookkeeper and actually lose…big time! (Kyomaro's body gets so beat up that it looks like he dies...which is what the final episode of the anime is homaging) But just when Riou is in perfect control of everything...Zeon (the silver-haired Gash lookalike) comes along and owns him! All of a sudden, Zeon sends Riou back, takes control of Faudo and directs it towards Japan for his own diabolical deeds. And to make matters worse, he gives Riou's former followers a choice to upgrade themselves to become more powerful, as well as improving on the two internal demons within Faudo (the skull-headed, pirate hat Unkoteintein and that demon beating Faudo's heart) to make them formidable. While Kyomaro recooperates (the perverted Momon ends up reviving him, then he is put into a healing chamber found inside the tower), a whole bunch of battles have been going on against the other Mamono and Faudo components:
! -Wonlei sacrifices himself against Unkoteintein after all he's put Li Yen through in this arc.
-Riya and rival Zaruchim (Riou's closest ally and one of the few enemies not upgraded) face off with Umagon and fire Mamono Fango thrown in for good measure: Riya and Zaruchim send each other back while Fango...well, I think Sunbeam just burns the book in the midst of the rival battle.
-Ted finally sees Cherish again, but she is forced to fight for Zeon via a remote the metallic Gyaron holds, yet in a surprising end, Ted sacrifices himself to eliminate Gyaron and Cherish finally joins the allies.
-Bari faces and defeats longtime rival (even in the Mamono World) Keys, but gets sent back himself due to a trap thrown just as the spring Mamono is fading away.
! Currently, we have a battle against the heart demon against two more allies introduced in this arc (Earth, Karudeio), plus we're guaranteed one more fight (upgraded versions of Rodeaux and Jedun vs. the main team) before the battle royale with Zeon.
! Now why did I mention all of this? Mostly because of this: because of dwindling sales for the Gash card game (not to mention a sickness abscense from Raiku just as the Cherish/Ted/Gyaron fight was reaching its climax...and even the illness of Ikue Otani, AKA Chopper), Toei chose to end the Gash anime and put the new Digimon series in its place. But since they had to do a lot of things in the last few episodes and didn't really want to wait to see how Raiku would handle it, they cut some corners and did some homages while making their own ending. Some notable changes:
! -No Riou/Gash fight, and Riou/Zeon is moved to a couple episodes before the end.
-No upgrade spell for Faudo and its followers.
-Several homages to similar scenes in the manga that Toei decides to sneak in. (Wonlei's sacrifice, Kyomaro's beating, something Brago pulls off)
-Rodeaux, not Unkoteintein, sends Wonlei back in a similar sacrifice to the manga, but not as long a battle.
-More conventional "good Mamono vs. evil Mamono fights"
-Bari and Ted both make it to Faudo and survive. Likewise, Keys also survives and Cherish ends up getting sacrificed, while Earth falls to Riou prior to Riou's Zeon encounter.
-We get several new spells, some may still be revealed by Raiku, but it is unknown if they are authentic or merely "deux es machina".
-A Gash/Zeon fight that mostly seems rather good even if its anime-only for the moment. They give Deufaux (Zeon's bookkeeper) an interesting backstory as a psychic experiment who is only found release when he becomes Zeon's bookkeeper.
-A lot of "power of friendship" stuff, as well as an interpretation of what could be the true meaning of the "Golden Book".
-And then there's the last episode...where do I start? Though Zeon gets in one more bit of evilness, the last episode is more a study of "how to end a story without giving it closure". Without boring you with any more details: everyone gets out of Faudo, Brago shows up, Gash destroys Faudo with the "power of Baou" (AKA: a huge, powerful Baou Zakeruga), we get a silly, yet slightly pointless closing credits and "the Mamono fight continues". Yet in all this ending, we get no closure for everyone involved. Raiku does a great job showing closure for everyone, tying up lose ends and showing what happens to people (well mostly the allies) after they're removed from the Mamono fight. (as seen in the last chapter or two after the end of the Millenium Mamono arc) Not to mention the fact that we have a powerful psychic guy who's lost the only thing that ever cared about him (even though Zeon was still using him as a tool for his own means). But instead of showing closure for all the players, we just get one less destroyed tower and Gash returning to the Mamono fight as if nothing has changed. That, my friend, is why the ending of the anime sucked. (and why I'm eagerly anticipating how Raiku ends the Faudo arc his way...not to mention cross my fingers Toei decides to eventually do the stuff from Faudo's unlocking right in an OAV)
Well… The anime ended like that. The Gash Bell manga is still going.
Ah, so the manga and anime go seperate ways? That's kind of like what happened with Fullmetal Alchemist and Rurouni Kenshin.
Wow, wonderful! Thank you, Tokoro. Now, some pontification.

Truely, Gash Bell ended without closure, though in comparison to various other shows with simmilar endings (I noted Shaman King and Inuyasha (especially IY), I thought this ending was the best of the bunch. And that's in spite of the flaws. My reasoning is that the only mamono around now are "good guys", even the aloof Brago and violent Bari. It's no longer absolutely imperative for Gash to become the "kind king" because any of the surviving manono could fill that seat in Gash's place. As such, I think there's an implied closure that isn't bittersweet or downright annoying.
With such an impressive arc, though, it's very disappointing to hear about Gash Bell getting a rushed ending; from what I have heard, Digimon Savers isn't really on par with the original four series, and I know Bo-bobo was cancelled due to the "violence" dispute not so long ago. Assuredly, these multiple blows are going to have an adverse effect on Toei's productions in the coming years.

I think that there may be one or two more adversary Mamono left if you think about Mamono numbers. (I tried to calculate how many are left based on manga numbers from the point there are "40 Mamono Left" in the chapters where Kyomaro finds the Pamoon state…) But personally, I still think that the "friendly Mamono" may have to still fight each other even if the end of the Faudo arc gets rid of Zeon and all the others. The Mamono fight can't end until there's one left...and although many of these guys are now friendly, they all still want to be king. So I guess we'll see when we get to that point...
Outside my closure thought, another problem I saw with the end is that Faudo suddenly loses all of its IQ points in the final episodes. In the manga and earlier episodes, the thing shows a personality in its showboat antics unexpected in its immense size. (swimming around the Pacific Ocean, some of its hotdog flying techniques) But in the last episodes, especially after the destruction of the control gem, it merely becomes this mindless monster that just to happens to need to be destroyed. With all the strategizing and methods to get rid of Faudo in the manga (such as a switch to shut down its core and send it back to the Mamono world), it just seems too anime-conventional with the main hero destroying the final obstacle. (especially with the obsession with teamwork the manga's been showing the whole time...why can't we get all the Mamono and bookkeepers coming up with an amazing plan to stop it instead of just a giant electric dragon atomizing it?)
BTW: Sorry if the post seems confusing...I'm not that good at organizing thoughts while typing.
Does anyone know where to download Chici wo Moge and the 2nd opening?
Very Melon is now officially my new favourite song in the world.
Oh goddamit,double post.
@Tokoro:

Late manga spoilers, better watch out:
! Just one small correction… It isn't just that he looked like he died, he actually did go out for a bit there. After the battle, Gash sort of accidentially revived him with the beating on his chest and stuff he was doing, then Tio's healing and Momon's CPR managed to just barely bring him in to a stable condition.
! That's why he's been in the healing thing the whole time, if he didn't get proper medical attention, he would've died again. (From the latest chapter it appears he's finally showing signs of reviving though)

! That's why I said "it looks like he dies", not "he dies". Of course they wouldn't kill off their main character so close to one of the most anticipated battles in the series. When Kyomaro comes back and Rodeaux and Jedun are dealt with (hopefully by the others, I really don't want their thunder stolen by Gash or else it would be cliched), then we can finally get to that Zeon fight..which hopefully blows the anime version out of the water!
Oh hey, more spoilers!
! Okay, misinterpreted what you meant there, since I thought he just looked like he died until someone corrected me before.
! I wouldn't really mind if Gash ends the fight, long as Momon gets some spotlight at some point before it like Kanchome and Tio are getting now, I think he's the only one in the main group who hasn't gotten to fight at this point.

! Momon so far has merely been an assist to Tio, Umagon and Canchome. It would be interesting to see if a fifth spell appears that would give him some sort of attack, but that might be a tad "deux es machina", particularly if said attack takes out either Rodeaux or Jedun.
! As for Gash ending the fight, I'll only permit it if one of the other "main four" (the team that's pretty much had all the focus since day one, as in Gash, Tio, Canchome and Umagon) gets sent back in this fight. (I've been having this theory one is about to go if only to show us that not even the characters we've come to know from the start are safe…sort of like the impact of Kido going back was a blow to the heroes in the Lord arc) He already had a huge fight with Riou and he is likely going to have a bigger do-or-die fight with Zeon, so he may not be needed for the moment. For the moment, I want to see how this fight plays out and hope that something goes the way of the four fighting now. (and I don't mean someone else coming in)
Well, in the dub I heard Zophis' voice for the first time. And he sounds like Frieza from Dragonball Z, or Gollum. It's just so weird.
! Man, I can't believe that Barry's out. But from what I can tell, he went down with a huge fight and took his opponent down with him. Speaking of which, Keys/Keith sounds awesome, I want to see scans of his fight with Barry.
! And damn it, Ted's out too. There goes my two main favorites.
! Yeah, it kinda sucked to see them go. But Cherish made it through Ted's battle and got some surprising badassery out of it, so I'm interested in where things are going with her and "Nicol".
Anyone know where I can get scans?
Well Null has i think up to 11 on their irc channel….
Well yeah, but that doesn't help me read the recent chapters.
where do you download the manga from?
I don't know if you guys knew or not, but K-F's Dythim is part of the Anime Destiny fansub group, His name's in the opening credits. On the K-F forum, he mentioned that he did the English translation for the Gash Bell intros and endings.
Has anyone seen the Zatch Bell second english opening?
I did see that on Saturday…while I do admit they were completely able to only use opening footage, it just seems rather random compared to "Kimi ni Kono Koe Ga Todokimasu Yoo Ni". (the original second opening they used for this one)
I like how they somehow made it worse.
@Cap'n:
I think how they somehow made it worse.
I know. At least hearing that at that annoying "YOU KNOW WHO'S GOT THE POWER…....power.........." is better than the One Piece intro. Both of them sound like a crappy garage band, though.
Is Youtube down or something?
All I get is "All your video are belong to us"
hmm? Naruto will be good uncut on DVD…
hmm? Naruto will be good uncut on DVD…
And…
(turns Kyomaro demon face)That has what to do with Gash!?!?!??!
Well, if by chance, maybe VIZ Media will release some UNCUT Gash Bell Box Sets as well XP..
EDIT-For some reason, I like the 2nd Dub intro a bit better from the 1st one..
But the original openings still own them all.
Yeah,they really do.
Well, as I said earlier, hope they do release UNCUT DVD Box Sets like Naruto.
Oh and a little note, in the Jap. version, Milordo Z, A.K.A. Zofis, is just simply known as Lord. Just to clarify if some didn't know.
Also, I know this is rather off-topic but..
! Any Kiyomaro X Megumi suppporters here?
EDIT-In terms of RAW 252 of the manga right now
! Ah Dammit  ..Momon gets his book burnt..
! Kiyomaro finally returns from his freaging coma.
MANGA SPOILERS
It seems Trogdor has appeared in the manga.
http://community.livejournal.com/konjiki/208829.html#cutid1
Meh there really needs to be a main discussion topic or something.
How come zatch bell can't have the same tv rating tv-pg and can't have the same editing like Naruto if it is by viz media like Naruto?
Probably because Gash Bell was aimed at a younger audience than Naruto. Naruto is mostly aimed towards teens, while Gash/Zatch Bell is meant for 7-12 year olds (Or somewhere in that neighborhood).
Eww uncut? Who actually wants to see Zatch's penis?
Gash bell and Naruto are kids show in Japan and Naruto is aimed for teens and zatch bell is aimed for younger kids in the US. I wonder why gash bell couldn't be the same like Naruto like with the same editing and can't make it for the teens like Naruto in the US?
I want to see Gash Bell uncut too plus Gash Bell has blood in it
