Ok, I just went to check out rave master on wikipedia when it started talking about how popular it was. So I went to look at One Piece and it said it was the fourth best selling jump manga ever. Also it was one of only 3 mangas to increase sells of jump in 11 years. So does anyone know what mangas beat it out for the title? I would just like to know what mangas are really popular in Japan right now and If any new video games are in the works for some new Mangas. Thanks a ton guys.
Popular Manga…..

-
Slam Dunk presumably, Dragonball?
Don't listen to me..EDIT: Rave Master…:wassat:
-
I never actually read Rave Master I was looking up info for a video game.
-
One Piece did beat Slam Dunk already and is now the 3rd, behind Kochikame and #1 Dragonball.

DB is #1 with something like 240 million volumes.
Kochikame was something like #2.
Slam Dunk was either #3 or #4 - there's a title I'm forgetting. :| -
Yea I figured DB was #1. What about anime? If you go to the bleach wiki it says it was voted #7 most popular anime in Japan. I just didnt think it could beat One Piece.
-
Well, you can check the top 10 ratings every week in here ( http://www.videor.co.jp/data/ratedata/top10.htm#comic ), One Piece is usually #4 or #5, while Bleach (and Naruto) sometimes shows up around the last two positions.
The most popular anime are "family" series like Sazae-san and Chibi Maruko-chan.
-
^ Now how am I going to read that? Lol. Thanks for the help though.

Creative much? OP is ワンピース (Wanpiisu), so you should be able to read the katakana without much trouble and if that fails, just use a CTRL + F search and look at placement.
-
Terek you wrote that wrong haha. It should have a little circle at the top insted of the "
It says wan biisu now

Yu Yu Hakusho. ^_^

No it doesn't.
Sounds like people are looking for this article in this thread.
It's pretty old though, and it's safe to assume goty's right and that by now One Piece easily already knocked Slam Dunk off its spot.
-
What about video-games…? I'm pretty sure Pokemon and the Budokai series of DB were among the most popular.

Yes it does
http://www.tokyowithkids.com/fyi/japanese/katakana/kk2.gif
look at this chart. The one with the circles are the P's.
It if wasn't a b then robin's name (ロビン) would be pronounced ropin also.
edit: Wait what the fuck? I guess it is wan biisu, I checked the tankonbans. Oo But why? Shouldn't it be piisu?
-
Yes it should and it is. You seem to be reading it wrong consistently.
Try leaning closer to your screen or something.
-
Holy shit it is. Man that really looks like " at a distance. damn
-
The past 4th best selling title was Kinnikuman I believe, So that would make Slam Dunk the 3rd title. The recent 4th being One Piece.
-
Coincidentally, there's an updated list now, up to the latest manga volumes, by Comipress. And also an interesting article about Shonen Jump ups and downs over the last years:
-
Ah, thanks a lot for the article, goty. That's very interesting indeed. It even has graphs squeeeeeee XD (yeah, I'm weird)

Man I love that anime! I used to watch it as a kid, manga ver. must be better it seems.
Another popularly, underrated series is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and anything else Araki made. -
Thanks a ton for the links guys. I guess Ill ask this question here since its relative. What about the most popular manga that has been turned into popular videogames? Im talking Gash Bell, Shaman King, Bobobo, etc.
What are some manga that have been so popular that videogames were created for them? Thanks again. -
The Narutimate Hero series is probably the best anime videogame out there. It is basically the only reason I put up with naruto at this point.
-
See I dont understand how a game like Gash Bell (although I like it and would read the manga if I could find it,lol) can spin off so many good games but manga like Bleach that is more popular only gets like one game.
-
Um, Bleach has several games out.
-
^ Im talking major consoles. Not just a lot of GBA games.
-
I know bleach has one for the wii and the gamecube. Probably ported for the other systems to. Yu Gi Oh being another series with tons of games while Bezerk and FMA get like one game.
-
Bleach has a few games for the Gamecube, PS2, DS, and PSP.
Funny how you mention FMA, since the only good game made from that franchise was never brought over here. Instead we get a bunch of
crappy RPGs based on a crappy anime. -
You should really consider manga's that's been in Shonen Jump cuz those are always good.
Read Gintama. ^^
-
Speaking of kinnikuman, no one on the request link has answered question. Are there are any online links?
I think Slam Dunk and DB are one of top one. -
The most you'll find of the Kinnikuman are a few volumes done by Toriyama World.
The scans are pretty mediocre quality, and TW tapparently thought it was a good idea to skip entire volumes and chapters they thought were "boring."
And since everyone on the staff seems to have an incurable boner for Death Note, looks like it won't get done by them anytime soon.
-
Oh, well I mean Ultimate Muscle then, the one with the girl named Roxanne and that trainer named Meat. Anyway, im dumb, im getting off-topic on this thread.
-
Meat was in Kinnikuman as well.
Viz has been putting out Kinnikuman Nisei (aka Ultimate Muscle) but I don't know how much good that'll do you
-
Ok I was just wondering if anyone can recommend me some good mangas that have already gone around 100 chapters or so. I have caught up to One piece and Naruto and Im at ch. 150 in Bleach so far. I really like being able to sit and read volume after volume rather then wait each week for one chapter but Im not sure what to read next. Im looking for something that has great characters and is pretty popular like the top three, (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach) and will take any recommendations. If you can help me that would be great. Thanks guys.
-
read HxH
16 char
-
Trigun and Tenjou Tenge are both around 100 chapters, the former is finished, and the latter is not. A relatively new shonen by Hiro Mashima (author of Groove Adventure Rave) called Fairy Tail has around 30 chapters and is a fun series. Also, Yakitate!! Japan, while a bit longer, is a great series.
-
Well, if you like those three you would probably also enjoy D.gray-man, which is currently up to 120 chapters.
-
Dragonball and Kochi Kame. You're going to be hard-pressed to beat out Kochi Kame with anything, seeing as it's been out since the 70's.
Oh, and reading "what is popular" is going to make you want to vomit, since most popular manga sucks somethin' fierce.
-

I consider One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach the "top 3" manga right now as in popularity but I also think each one of those deserves to be on top. What do you guys think is better then those 3? My friend was telling me earlier how much he liked Bezerk but I havent read anything from it myself.
