Hmm I'm thinking of starting this series soon- can someone give me some insight on it, non-spoiler of course? Thanks.
-
@DougyDougyGiro!*:
whos the one guy with the pomp in opening three ?
That's Ted. His book keeper is Jed. Ted's spells are mostly powerups, and he fights with his fists.
Ted's one of my favorite Mamono.

Konjiki no Gash Bell!! (Means "Golden Gash Bell!!" in english) is a manga by Raiku makoto running in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine and an anime by Toei Animation. It follows the adventures of Takamine Kiyomarou and the devil called Gash Bell. The basic plotline is Gash is sent to Kiyomarou's home by his father to help him make friends. Gash has no memories of his past life and posseses a little red spellbook. We find out later in the series that Gash was only one of 100 devils on earth with human partners. The must all fight with each other until 99 are dead and the last one left is crowned "Devil King", but that is the least of their problems because all are after Gash becuse he was the prince of devils before he lost his memories, including his evil double Zeon.
Cha…ever had a "what the fudge" moment? o.O;
... (spoilers I guess)
I suppose ascended lineage is a Shounen staple, but man, Terek wasn't expecting it out of Gash Bell. Could anyone elaborate on Zeon/Zeno and how exactly a "double" is defined? Is he along the lines of Gash's Yan (considering Gash is an utterly benevolent mamono, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a yin-yan split at one time), and why the fudge are the Millennium Mamono getting in the way of the battles? If the sent ninety nine are gone, that SHOULD equate to a Mamono King…but this means that the frozen mamono just get a second shot at the crown? How is that fair?
-
i just saw a clip of ted is his va the one who does naruto?
-
Yes, I think it´s him… and someone told me that Buggy´s seiyuu did a voice too in this anime, but I don´t remember which one
-
I don't think Shigeru Chiba has done anything for Gash Bell…
Zeon looks exactly like Gash, except with white hair, white clothes, and purple eyes. His spells are very similar to Gash's (electricity), and he appears to be one of the most powerful (if not THE most power) mamono currently active.
I don't remember anything about Gash being prince...
-
Are zeon and gash two halves of a mamono or brothers?
-
Nothing has been revealed about their connection yet, but Zeon despises Gash.
-
Is there any other strong mamonos (evil or good) like zeon
-
There's several strong ones. I think Barry is one of the most powerful Mamono right now (he's the only one that's beaten Gash so far anyway). Brago is pretty powerful too..
But I'm not really caught up at all so I have no idea.
-
Bari, Brago, Gash, Zeon, and Zofis all survive until the arrival of the Millenium Mamono, so they're all the cream of the crop.
-
Well, there's still a lot more mamono in the world, a strong one could show up anytime. And Zofis gets her ass kicked when Brago gets a hold of her.
And, I heard that the manga is dealing with some super powered mamono named Faudo or something…
-
I read on Toonzone that Gash Bell is ending in Japan at 150 episodes. But the manga is still going.
Poor Gash, it's going to be replaced by a new Digimon series too.
-
Why are they going to be replacing it (didnt it get good ratings in japan?)
-
Digimon was huge. Even in America; I mean, comparing the relatively non-graphic Digimon dub to something like 4Kids' One Piece is utterly absurd; it's well acted with good dialogue, great fights and not much violence without losing atmosphere. And that's just seasons one and two!
…
People liked season three for some reason; I personally hated it, especially now more than every because of the Evangelion influences. I thought the entire thing was pretty dumb.
Season four was radical and pretty much killed the series; I mean, the major plot device of trainers and digimon was gone, so I would imagine most interest in the series went with it.
Ahh, the golden age of American monster anime; Monster Rancher, Digimon, and Pokemon's Indigo league. Brings a tear to my eye.
-
I just saw Anime Destiny's 64, and I can't believe that Umagon's finally got a Bookholder! Can't wait to see his powers.
-
Umagon's powers are pretty cool. I'd say what they are but I don't want to spoil them.
-
isnt that episode on tonight
(dub) -
No. The guy Umagon finds isn't his real book keeper.
-
I heard that Gash Bell is only on hiatus. The anime was getting close to the manga, since the Mangaka's hand is broken, and can't draw for a while.
-
Only the manga was on hiatus. The Anime is ending.
-
well according to ann he's starting up again now.
-
The juxtaposition of the lyrics in Folgore's dub song are hillarious.
"Hey, hey, let's play all day! BOING BOING!"
XD
-
Big Gash fan here, particularly for the manga (though the anime has a lot of fun moments). The fights have gotten pretty insane at this point in the manga and have made several departures compared to how the anime ended.
! In the anime, the "newly created" part for the end of Faudo. There were some conventional battles and sent back quite a few characters in some typical fashions. (and don't get me started on the last "non-episode" where the show just "ended" instead of finding closure) On the other hand, the manga has had some really insane fights and a few decisions I am glad they made. (like Kyomaro's fall vs. Riou, Ted being sent back instead of Cherish and Wonlei's final stand against Unkoteintein instead of against someone more conventional) Currently, the manga is wrapping up a battle between rivals Keith and Bari. But while his book is burning now, Keith looks like he's about to launch one final attack before being sent back.
-
I also keep up with the manga, and agree that the current fights in it are getting insane. I just wonder how the hell they are supposed to deal with Zeon after displaying how much stronger he is than a guy who beat gash and kiyomaru pretty easily. Their aren't even many people left to team up with so either kiyomaru will have to come back alot stronger or they are really screwed.

! If Gash/Zeon is a one-on-one fight, I probably wouldn't mind it. Due to the long back history those two have (and I'm not talking about the anime interpretation), they probably could fight each other and we'll see how it ends up going. (maybe not exactly like the anime version, but something in me does expect the "golden book" by the end of the series, if not this fight) As for whom he can team up with if he needs someone…well we haven't seen Canchome or Momon fight in a while (though I doubt they would be much help), Earth and Karudeio are still somewhere in Faudo (though we haven't heard from them in a while), Tio, Umagon and Cherish could probably still lend a hand...maybe even Brago. (can't say Bari yet since who knows what state he'll be in by the time he's done with Keith) Heck, even Papipulio could get over his arrogance/cowardice and join. But the truth is this: Zeon is the ultimate foe for the arc and we still have at least one more fight before we get to him. (Rodeaux and Jedun are on the final level before the control room and we could get the heart demon fighting like Unkoteintein did earlier)

I want to see Monster Rancher again… :(
Anyway... I remember on the last few eps... Brago's owner... did I see him with a cigarette in Toonami?
-
Brago's owner? You mean Sheri? I don't think Sheri smokes :p
You probably mean Gustaf, Bari's bookkeeper. And honestly, I think he kept the cigarette, but they edited it to make it unlit. (sort of like what they did to Sarutobi on Naruto in that scene with the jounin meeting) Yeah, unlike firearms, they really don't edit tobacco products over at Viz. (then again, we do have the Danny ep. where we have the bookkeeper with the cigar and the gun being kept to his head…in the original form and color!)
-
No, no, no… I meant Barry... I got them mixed up when I was looking up the names... X_x Ah, so I wasn't imagining things...
Thanks for the info though.
-
I don't think Gustav smokes. At least, I don't remember him smoking…
-
@Cap'n:

(looks through Vol. 10) Yeah, Gustav smokes. Not too sure if the dub kept it, but if they did, there was no smoke.

The Monster Rancher DVD's are coming out sometime in the future (or may already have been). Not sure if they're edited or not, but I really couldn't care less; the editing was pretty good.
-
I hope they put out the DVDs and hopefully the movie "Konjiki no Gash Bell: The 101 Devils" uncut. It kicks so much ass uncut.
you can download it on tokyotosho.com in mp4 format, what i really want to see is the second one with DR.M2 and his army of mecha vulcan 3000

yeah thats what they did with mr.gold the gu who read danny's book

I just watched the Final episode (150)
Damn, its horrible that it ended without using Gash's proper voice actor… Having someone else play the part for the final episode really is.... sad.
but good episode!
I liked it alot!
but its sad that its over ;_;
huggles Gash-Kun
Give Digimon a good solid Zakeru before you have to leave the airwaves. -
I prefer watching the subbed version, it isn't watered down. I mean I would rather watch the version with the booobs song in it. So Subbed is gonna be the only way.
-
Very true, but after seeing the horror of the Dub Piece, I must say this about the Cartoon Network version…
They have kept some of the original bg music
The Paco Folgore song still has the same tune, just cleaned up lyrics
and cigarettes have not been replaced with a sucker. That said, I am a bit puzzled why guns are replaced with plutonium rods. What, they hold the rod to somebody's head and say "Don't move, or I'll give you cancer?" At least that was my first thought when I saw the green smudge over the guns. (But it's still better than super soakers and spring-hammer things and threatining fingers...)
I just don't get as much of a cringe factor when watching the Zatch Bell when compared to Gash Bell that I get from the Dub Piece.
-
Yeah but, Gash was for the age group of teens and now after they were done dubbing it, its now for ages 6-10 imo, no thanks.

Personally, I think that Viz is doing a good job pushing the limits for what can be shown in the Gash dub. Sure there are a lot of things that I do complain about (see the cleaning of "Chichi wo Moge" and turning "Big Boin" to "Lady Susan, who smells good"), but they seemed to have pioneered the usage of "bruises" even if its not all out bloodshed (heck, even 4Kids is doing it now…well I noticed the first Doremi dub ep had it), have tried to keep some of the more important music scenes ("Chichi wo Moge"'s tune is kept, all of the music in Tio's first ep, including the Japanese version of Megumi's song "Hikari no Prism"...and hopefully we will get "Watashi wa Patie" this weekend), and...well, maybe they have screwed up a lot of the guns (Hosokawa's "bubble gun", and all the "plutonium guns"), but I still commend them for the Danny ep. At best, its a dub that is somewhat for older kids, but still safe enough for those they want to push it on (like the current Miguzi run)

That argument doesn't really work for Zatch Bell. ZB's overall tone and theme are perfect material for children; it's a neo version of Digimon (which is, ironically, what is going to replace it). I'm not saying this because ZB is cartoonish, slapstick, or fun-loving, it's just doesn't have mature themes.

"Chichi wo Moge" is so chauvinist, there's no way it would ever air. Personally, I thought that episode was a hillarious; they kept in the "BOING-BOING" and Wittenberg's portrayal of Folgore was, suffice to say, shockingly close to the original. Richard Horowitz as Kanchome? Hahaha!
Looking at ZB, though, one would consider it a sloppy job; but, considering it's more heavily edited than OP (and better done), it's marvelous work.
-
I was pretty funny hearing Richard Hortiz as Kanchome. He made him sound too much like his Billy voice, though.
-
!!!!
THATS IT!
thank you. I could not recongize which other voice he did. He sounded really firmilar but i couldnt remember who

The only voices I know he did were Zim, and Billy from Billy and Mandy.
-
Horowitz's Zim and Dagget portrayals are superior to Kanchome and Billy, but that might be simply because of the medium of the cartoons he is working in. I've noticed that it's difficult for even the best VA to dub a show with all the emotion, expression, and whatnot of an animated feature catered to them; as in, Horowitz's Zim was over-the-top and loveable, while Kanchome seems forced…bah, still, it's great to see him still doing comedy stuff.
-
I just watched the ending raw i had no clue what was going on but, did
! kiyomaro die?! It looked like he just passed out but. Also is that how it ends with just kiyomaro and gash on the beach. Or did the person who uploaded it just cut off somepart at the end. Also was gash bell now the king. I am confused
also they should have got gash's replacement to chopper insted of choppers new replacement.
Also what episode is the dub at right now and what volume is that in the manga
-
The dub just entered the 2nd season (52-ish).
Also, when watching it on firiday on Miguzi, I could've swore I saw some blood. (During the afternoon, when all the kids are watching)
-
Patie's/Penny's song in the recent episode was so cute.
~You can call me Penny~Pretty pretty Penny~
But it was funny, she got so demonic when she figures out Zatch doesn't remember her. She's also a water element Mamodo.
-
I missed that episode because I was so distressed over fate/stay night. What happened?
-

It was Patie's/Penny's first appearance and the dub entered season 2 judging from the episode splash eyetatch.
Patty is someone who always had a crush on Gash in the mamodo world and she looked forward to meeting with him in the human world. However, while Kiyomaro is competing in a PE test for gourmet food, Gash encounters with her and basicly says he does not know her since he did lose his memories because of Zeon. Then that leads to her getting pissed, turning into a demon like angry girl and starts chasing gash until he reaches Kiyomaro in school. After that,Kiyomaro and Gash lead Patty and her book owner to the empty school pool where the swim team would usually compete. They begin a battle but Gash has a bad start from Patty's water type spells that can absorb his attacks and bounces back at them with water electricity ownage. Then that's when the episode ends.
