Shanks uses a sword, does that automatically makes Mihawk stronger?

I would like to add something to my post:
Mihawk have a title "World Greatest Swordsman". Not "World Greates Pirate".
We don't even know that was he pirate before.
Right now, these four are world greatest pirates:

Mihawk is the greatest swordsman, but this dont not mean that he is stronger than shanks just because shanks uses a sword.. I think there is stuff that has yet to be seen that will add into the factoring of power or ability, whether this is DF or not..

And I think there is also something to do with this "spirit", because I dont see Oda bringing it up for absolutely no reason at all..

But I stick with it to say that Shanks and WB are both equal to or stronger than Mihawk, but not weaker than..

I don't have time to quote specifics, but this is in response to those commenting that they think Mihawk is possibly stronger than the Yonkou (minus WB).

So far, whenever a well established character such as Mihawk is shown approaching a crew, the crew themselves don't even try to do anything to him. For example, when Mihawk approaches Shanks crew for the first time (in the manga), the crew quickly runs to Shanks to alert him, they have no intention of fending off Mihawk. Also, when Shanks boards WB's boat, only the commanders even dare to talk to him. This shows that the yonkou crew don't even take part in the battle when characters of such caliber are in the area. to my point, this implies that in regards to Shichibukai and Yonkou, it's the individual shichibukai (as we already know), and the Yonkou pirate captains who face each other.

With this is mind, and considering how separated the yonkou seem to be from each other, if Mihawk (who i actually think is the strongest shichibukai) was able to take out a yonkou captain, i would expect the WG to send him and possibly a marine crew to take out the weakest of the yonkou. of course, there's always the possibility that the other 2 yonkou are your typical "bad" pirates and they are not as honourable as WB and Shanks, and Mihawk knows this and doesn't want to take the change.

anyways, i think this whole debate of who's stronger is like trying to decide who's the best at boxing, tennis, golf etc… in their league, things just aren't b&w, but the speculation of it is great!

The WG must have seen him as a threat earlier in his career as a pirate to draft him so quickly. The next Shichibukai member revealed with the next lowest bounty is 296 million! That's a 215 million difference! I know that Mihawks, Jimbei's, and the two other unknown members bounty is unknown but Crocodile is low compared to the others. I doubt that the other members go lower than 81 million.

Well All I know is that Whitebeard and Hawkeye's are the only two characters shown so far with World class STRENGTH titles. I truly believe noone is stronger than these two characters. Shanks was a rival to Hawkeye's, but he still retains his title. I would have to say Shanks and Hawkeye's are equals or Hawkeye's being a little stronger.

Yea that's really bothering too, and even doubling the increase doesn't seem like that much, but Croc is a logia, so that made him nearly impossible to defeat.

The only reason why it probably so low was because Oda probably didn't think about how his bounty would affect the other Shichibukai. If Croc's bounty was really high and Luffy defeated him, then that'd mean there'd be nothing for future events. The dramatic increase in bounties can imply greater challenges ahead.

Yeah thats true, and through the bounty its thought that Croc had by far the lowest bounty.. Anyways it said that if they knew abuot Broque Works his bounty would have doubled. And yea I agree that they probably got him early on, OR he filled in for a shicibukai who was out for some reason..

Much like Blackbeard is know, just needs to be known..

Nevertheless, I think it is impossible to argue who's the strongest because we have not seen the true power of Whitebeard, Shanks and Mihawk yet. We've just seen glimpses that obviously indicate that they are at the very top when fighting abilities are concerned. People will say that the strongest one is the character they like the best personally, as the person I quoted proves.

When we saw Mihawk destroying Krieg's fleet we all got the feeling he was just crushing a few tiny bugs that annoyed him. Only when he fought Zoro his power was even remotely tested. And that only surprised him slightly.

When Shanks and Whitebeard met, it was obvious from the start that it wasn't supposed to be a fight and when they clashed weapons Ben Beckman (?) calmly tells the lesser crewmembers to relax as Shanks don't intend to start fighting for real.

So what we know from this is that Shanks, Whitebeard and Mihawk are powerful beyond anything we've seen so far in the series. When they're "just playing around" huge warships are split like soft cheese, lesser men pass out from the pure awesomeness, and heaven itself splits apart. If any of these guys fought one of the other in a life or death combat it will be a disaster for anyone within miles of the fight. A local armageddon. To me, it seems likely that they are all so powerful that it's virtually impossible to tell which one of them's the strongest. They'd destroy themselves and everything around them if two of them unleashed their full destructive potential at once.

Okay if this is to be settled, someone whip out One Piece Grand Battle/Adventure and lets have a Shanks vs Mihawk fight… Usually Mihawk tends to > everyone (he's very cheap). This is sarcastic for anyone thinking "Well thats not actual OP".

Both characters have displayed collossal power; both were rivals in their prime. Mihawk refuses to fight Shanks now, but I believe that Mihawk refuses to fight an opponent with a handicap. Mihawk is a refined swordsman, while Shanks resembles Zoro; Zoro and Shanks are really just super-strong characters with little actual sword-training or mastery.

Zoro has improved over time, refining his technique. I'm expecting him to fight against Taka-me any time soon.

Shanks also lacks any real showing of how GOOD he is. We all know that he's got to be godly to be one of the Yonkou. Just how he compares to someone like Luffy is what we need to see.

I'd believe that Luffy and Shanks fight similiarly, using any advantage they have and quick thinking to turn the battle. Zoro will become refined in his techniques and be able to match Mihawk.

To be short:

Mihawk and Zoro will be sword-only fighters.

Shanks and Luffy will be "whatever I can use" fighters. Fists, Kicks, Blades, etc. Anythings fine to use.

Wouldn't that merely aggravate things and upset the balance? If he's the only one in the Shichibukai or even if there's only on other, that'd still be a bad choice as the other Emperors would just go after him alone or any other threat. Even if someone is the strongest that doesn't mean they can't lose even if an Emperor of similar power comes after him and then other notable subordinates. I doubt Shanks would have a easy time with Whitebeard's 1st Divison Commander, or that he completely outclasses even his First Mate.

I'd say that Mihawks is likely slightly stronger than Shanks at this point, some of the reasons being that he has the title was the World's trongest Swordsman and he posses the World's Best Sword, and on top of matching Shanks prior to him losing his swordsarm, and being Zoro's ultimate goal.

You knew the kind of activity he was involved in, but you just couldn't prove it. So, it makes sense that an underground figure would only get a bounty of 81 million. Makes sense. I mean, hell, the guy's still one of the most powerful characters (though being a Logia master, that's not a hard title to get…).

That's true. Even though by now all the characters are stronger than Crocodile(I assume) physically. Not one of them can beat him without being drenced in water or blood. Sanji would just kick through him unless he splatters blood on his feet or somehow gets them wet, Zoro would have to cut himself and drench his swords in his own blood, Nami wouldn't do much, Usopp would shoot through him, Franky could only blow him away, Robin would never be able to catch hold of him, Chopper would run around scared, and Luffy would punch through him.

This is, of course, everyone isn't near a body of water or covered in blood.

See, this is what I was talking about. You think Mihawk is superior to Shanks, without any solid proof, yet you demand proof of the contrary for you to change your mind. You like Mihawk best, and that's fine. But it's not a valid for the sake of argument.

Mihawk is "the strongest swordsman in the world". Whitebeard is "the strongest man in the world". The three other Yonkou are "equal to Whitebeard in power". It's very ambigiously worded, and not conclusive in any way. You could argue that Mihawk is only below Whitebeard, as he is the only other character with "the world strongest" title. But you could also argue that since Shanks is a Yonkou and "equal to Whitebeard" he is not in the World Greatest Swordsman ranking, by the same logic that heavyweight and welterweight fighters are ranked seperately. Either way, there's absolutely no evidence of who's the strongest.

Where does it say the Shichibukai does not have any crew? Mihawk is a loner by nature, but Doflamingo lays down the law in his old gang and Crocodile had his own organization. And do you really think Blackbeard would go through the trouble of banding together an uber-crew if only his personal power was needed for the position? I think it's reasonable to assume that Mihawk is the exception, and that most Shichibukai keep a entourage just like they did when they were pirates.

Not only that, Mihawk can deflect bullets effortlessly with a twist of his sword. Not even blocking with it, just a light twist. I'm not gonna prop Shanks up to Mihawk's level by default just because he's one of the Four Emperors. Shanks needs to show what he can do, first.

Where does it say they don't have a crew?! That's the stipulation of becoming a Shichibukai, remember?! You have to give up your crew. That was stated way, way back. Mihawk doesn't have one, just like Croc didn't have one (Baroque Works doesn't count, for reasons I shouldn't have to get into).

Then don't make Mihawk stronger as Shanks by default either. For all we know Shanks could have the power of shooting giant spirit thingys out of his eyes(yeah, I know it sounds corny, but I'm not in the mood to come up with better examples right now.)

The fact that WBs people just crumbeled down is a pretty decent proof that Shanks got abilities other than just sword fight. We never saw any other character do something similiar to people.

So yeah, until those two clash, its all open….......

Mihawk has more skill with the sword than shanks, he is the greatest swordsman in the world. In terms of strength who knows, it seems like Whitebeard, Shanks and Mihawk used to fight/duel/scrrimage alot back before Shanks lost his arm and, since none of them are dead or seriously wounded from those fights, you'd have to think they're all on a pretty much even level. So what Shanks may lack in skill he may make up for with physical strength, ingenuity, thinks like that.

And that proves what? That he is a drunken fool? Shanks is a very easy going guy, it's extremely likely that he is just joking around and Mihawk is the best swordsman anyway so it's a given that he would win. I do that to my friend in the gym I know he can bench more than me but I always tell if "Oh you back to challenge the best".

That argument can also be turned against you, I could say Mihawk couldn't be bothered wasting his time with someone he knows he can beat. He would rather fight up and coming swordsman (like zoro) to see if he has anything to look forward to.

I've stated many reasons why I think Mihawk is stronger than shanks while many of the people are just posting "I think shanks is stronger because he is a yonkou",that isn't good enough

"Cutting the sky" is just a testament to his greatness. And Zoro never showed off his Aura; what Kaku saw was an illusion created from Zoro's rapid movement. And you conveniently forget that despite the fact that they're "No-names", they're on Whitebeard's crew. I don't think Whitebeard is gonna have "Billy-wets-his-pants" on his crew.

Zoro having those illusions around him are definitely his ki, the only other explanation is zoro is the fastest artist in the world and decided to design a demon around him instead of concentrating on kaku. Kaku also commented on zoros demon aura.

This has been argued many times and the final conclusion has always come down to Mihawk just can't be bothered fighting weaklings all day. So he chose to be shichibukai for the peace he receives. It's obvious proof that if you can travel the grandline in a small coffin without any equipment on board or a crew, it means your strong

Cause you know, when Sengoku called them all together, only 3 bothered to show up, and only then out of boredom or amusement. And even 2 of them was considered to be more than expected.

I can't see them being that strong but lets go with your theory. While at the baratie luffy and zoro would have easily defeated all of kreig and the baraties men with no problems. Even all of arlong park was taken down by an injured 1 sworded zoro (I think was a long time ago correct me if I'm wrong)
So even if whitebeards crew no-names have 20 mil bounties they'd just be in the way to luffy and zoro.

So if luffy and zoro are nowhere near Mihawks strength, what are these crew members going to do to Mihawk? So in the end I believe the crews aren't worth adding to the equation.
