Backwards compatibility is an embarrassment because IMO it's better to have 0 percent compatibility, or even a clearly documented 30 percent compatibility than to create the expectation of 100% compatibility and offer 85, 90, or even 95%.
It wouldn't of been such a big issue, if we were warned ahead of time
Like what the Xbox360 did
Well, actually, the reason I brought it up is because….it's not a big deal.
Nobody really cares -_-
I mean, you'd think that the SAME exact thing didn't happen to PS2.
Well guess what, it did.
The Guitar Hero problem will obviously be fixed by some means and Sony fully recognized the FF11 issue because of a hard drive issue that will be fixed via an update.
So in the end the biggest thing detractors have is…..
Tekken's 5 BGM is glitchy.
Anyone who uses that as a reason not to buy a PS3 or knock Sony needs to evaluate how much (or little actually) of a life they really have.
Now, why is the Sony launch both a success and a failure?
Success:
It's a success because a f*ck-load of people put out tens of thousands of
yen for a single video game system. The Nintendo Fanboy mantra complaint banner was:
'Nobody will be that stupid to pay that much!'
Well guess what, they did. And evidently there's a crapload more who are willing to do so.
Sony did not see systems sitting on shelves waiting to be snatched up. They were indeed snatched up and if they were put out tomorrow, they'd be snatched up too.
Sony = Win
Bitching Fanboys = Lose
Failure:
MRED pointed out excellent reasons that Sony will have lost the potential to make lots of system sales. Very true!
However...this is not something that just hit the news circuit yesterday. Sony has already suffered the 'wallstreet' blow of a short supply announcement. Anyone that DESERVES to own stock in Sony knew this would happen since the announcement months ago. That said, if there was going to be any kind of serious repurcussions from that end, we'd already be seeing the results.
In this sense, Sony has failed, but they're not going down.
Now if for some reason, a game like Metal Gear Solid 4 that a great percentage of the gaming population wants to play (come on guys, if that wasn't the case you know you wouldn't give two shyts that Snake was in Smash Brothers) suddenly somehow magically sucks despite the years of work that have gone into it from a team that have created games that reach near gaming perfection, AND ON TOP OF THAT continue to fuck up ragingly popular franchises, then ok. Maybe Sony has something to worry about.
But a phrase about a snowball in a warm place comes to mind.
