This episode absolutely was the bees knees, the best. And no, its not for the constant sakuga, this episode was more restrained and had lots of extremely great visual storytelling. And the revelations being made simpler is VERY welcome by me.
I really love how weak Blackbeard's crew is. On paper they all have absolutely broken powers, but then they always get decimated... until they come out on top anyway. They're the Yang to Luffy's crew's Yin.

You say that joyfully, or at least that's what I get from this, but this is absolutely killing any sort of hype for a Straw Hats vs Blackbeard whle crew fight.
Seriously, people joke these days about Shanks or Mihawk being "frauds" (thanks for unleashing that discourse into the world, JJK) when Blackbeard is the actual fraud of the One Piece world, relying on off-screenings and handouts from fate to get anywhere. Look at him in this episode with his dime store, did-it-in-five-minutes Luffy cosplay!
Excellent episode, needless to say I'm very glad that Shishido has stuck around as part of the regular rotation and it was fun to hear Koyasu slip some of the ham he's known for into his Aokiji performance since up until now the character has been pretty restrained. In more somber matters this ended up being the last time we'll be hearing Lafitte original voice actor since Taiki Matsuno unexpectedly passed away recently. He died towards the end of June so as a point of (morbid) trivia that means that the anime's schedule is healthy enough that this episode was in a presentable-enough state for the voice actors to record about a month and a half ahead of its airdate.
Next episode looks pretty strong too (the cut of Buggy's face "melting" was comedic genius) and then I think there's going to be another recap break the week after before the next mini-arc of this Egghead interlude begins.

It's quite the contrary for me. Classic shonen dynamics of strenght genereting hype do not excite me at all anymore. I'm way more interested to see how BB will screw SH's over with his foul play, plans and fate (which is basically his plot armor).
Anyway, the episode itself was fantastic start to finish..
What have they done to Yami Yami, I could literally make this visual effect via windows painter.
Isn't it the anime's job to work on shit that Oda had skipped? sigh.

In fact, we may have a rare example of a "Usopp VS Usopp" fight, where both opponents are smart. This would be different from classic One Piece dynamics where it's either "underdog vs powerful guy" or "powerful guy + hindrance vs gimmick". A proper "pirate vs pirate" fight with a clash of ideals would be so amazing that my main worry is what happens if Oda skips it.
