I was introduced into the entire rp genre wiht VII, so all of the PSone FF's are something of a golden era for me. I loved them all, and most other rpg's from the the PSone, and with XII, it feels like their effing with the gameplay format in an awkward way. The demo didn't feel natural, but I can't hold that against them, I mean it's only a demo. The demo of 8 was not much like the final versino so I'll give it a try before I make any final judgements.

My girlfriend says 12 kicks major ass (she bought it at midnight last night,) but she has weird tastes, so I take it with a grain of salt….
Still, might be worth looking into.
-
No more pretty boys too as faces are rendered in Vagrant Story style, which is good
HUH!!!?????
Have you SEEN the main character!? o_O They don't get any more "boy" or any more "pretty"
-
I was thinking yesterday, and I hope that they make a FF game with a main character like Guts from Berserk, or Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. Or, you know, something like that if you get what I'm trying to say.
Ok, so I ordered the game yesterday. Anyway, the character I'm most interested in is the guy with the gun, since he has the same last name as Mustadio from Tactics and he has a gun.

I wouldn't call it boy, that makes it sound like it didn't look like an ugly girl. Which it does. v.v

Eh, the main character of XIII looks to be a chick. Which is enough of a change for me, seeing as how it's not a pretty boy.
Unless the main character really is a pretty boy, and those videos they showed are misleading…
-

I guess. But a "tough manly guy" (can't think of a better term) would be a nice change too in my opinion. Not that I usually care about main characters anyway (I'm more of a side character fan).
It would be hilarious to me if they changed it up and made a guy with a scruffy beard or something the main character. Just to see the reaction.

FF12 is a great game once you get used the the new battle system & gambits. Still haven't beaten it yet tho. You can tell Square went all out on this game because the graphic,, gameplay, & voice-acting is superb. While definitely not my favorite FF game, it's definitely in my top 5.
On a side-note: Speaking of Kenshiro, anybody know where I can see the Raoh Gaiden movie?
-
ff12 battle system isn't that good you can move around while fighting but it's mostly pointless because you can't dodge an attack or anything.
I've nick-named ff12 "Columns" because thats what you do most of the time. You walk through columns of walls fighting the same damn enemies all the time.
In the end though it's still not too bad just (in my opinion) very repetitive, the graphics are very good for a ps2 and the game is long enough, but compared to the other ff games i think its rubbish
-
I've been reading about the summons, and they seem cool. I like that Zalera is in it (Elmdor was my favorite villain in Tactics).

@Mister_AnbuPeople:
The thing is, half of the fun of MMORPGs comes from the fact that you're teaming up and playing with actual people. A purely solo MMORPG styled game, I'm not so sure about it..

Eh, .hack was fun purely because it emulated a real MMO. But FFXII does nothing of the sort, just gives you the battle system of one…
I'm still skeptical, but I hear the story and setting are superb, and it (apparently) borrows a lot from Tactics, which rocked, so I still wanna give this game a try.
-
I heard the story is killer and that's all I need to know no matter how annoying the battles may be.
-
this one may be delayed until Greatest Hits it becomes
besides I just ordered the Seond Runner from Konami so fun is on its way

From what I read, in early stages of development, the main character was to be "big and tough", but as development continued and targeting demographics were considered, he became more effeminate.
So blame all the bishie fangirls. :\
But yeah, I'm with you, they totally need to make a FF game with someone like Guts as the main character.
-
So blame all the bishie fangirls. :.
whoo! lets hear i for ME! :)I like the little girly boys, but I can totally see where you guys are coming from. Us girls got our fair share, it's time to share and make a cool charicter the guys really like. BTW, for whoever menchioned it, FF6 had a girl for the main charicter ^_^ (always gotta bring up 6. yup.)
-

Ooo yeah! I completely forgot about that.
(Oh well, we all know Locke was the REAL main character of that game anyway.)
-
actually, if I had to name another charicter that could be considered "main" in that game, I would say Celes. There was a lot of focus with her. Being about to use magic, and working for the empire, and being a trator, and then the whole second half of the game starts out with her. Oh, and don't forget the opera! ^_^
-
Technically, you could make one of the Heros of Final Fantasy a girl (well, a White Mage, which were girls) then again, I don't know if any of the party in that game were actually more main than the others.
-
who said the white mages were girls? not that I mind, but I didn't think there was a set gender for the charicters. just bad graphics.
-
8-Bit theatre did, thats who lol
-
8 bit theatre doesn't count! lol
-
I think the fact that we're arguing over what character was main in 6 shows there isn't one ^o^
That's why it rules. It focuses on so many characters so strongly that there really isn't one. Sure, Terra is a very strong link at the center but when you think about it she spends very little time in the spotlight.
Man….what a FREAKING good game...
-
Yeah, I really liked that you didn't have to keep certain characters in your party all the time (except at specific parts).
-

in tactics, males can be white mage :D
FFT all the way!!
-
I still think Terra is the main charicter, but I do love the focus on everybody….a lot like OP, you know. ^_^
-
I like Final Fantasy, but I think everything released after FFX, FFTA (Was that after 10?), and Kingdom Hearts, which, to me, is clasified as a Final Fantasy game. They haven't came up with a halfway decent plot that is not cliche in the last 5 years. The classic's we're incredible. Maybe… I just grew up...
-
Eh, my comment about Locke being a main character was more of a joke… (though he totally shoulda been)
Anyway, about 12...
I hear it has ties with Final Fantasy Tactics. Which makes it WIN hardcore-style.
On the other hand, I also hear the main character does, like, nothing. In the entire game. Well, to be more accurate, he does things, but his role in the story is nothing more than that of the narrator of the other characters' story, or in other words a player-stand-in while all the real actions are decided and acted out by other characters. That's lame, in my book.
-
Hmm well I'm waaay early in FF12 but the battle system is hella fun and I think I'll be playin this for a while
-

same team / director that did 12, Tactics and Vangrant and maybe even the same world

It IS the same world.
-
It's Final Fantasy Tactics Advance though.
-
I thought Ivalice was the same city that was in FFT on PSone also in FF12. Also, is Cloud's trip to Ivalice in FFT canon? Some people say it could've happened during Heroin Cloud's time in the lifestream.
-

Oh ya. is it complex, or simple. can you compare to another FF game to give me an idea?
-
Ever play KOTOR(knights of the old republic)? The battle is like that but more complex and more in depth AI. If not then…i don't know what to compare it to.
-
ha haha…..no. but if you say it's more complex, that's enough for me. I'm not a big fan of the complex battle systems for new age RPG's. I like mind numbing games after a hard day at work.
-
I'm about 20 hours in so far and in the very begining you can't do too much besides attack. But then again lots of RPG's are like that.
After the start the battle system get's really customizable. And the license system is really nice. I like how you can have lots of diffrent weapon choices, and how in order to get limit breaks you have to branch out each character.
While it's similar to the demo it's obvious that things have been touched up quite a bit.
Not sure where it ranks, to me, in FF land yet though.
