So basically the Dungeon Meshi/Jojolion schedule, 10 or 11 chapters a year.
Good thing. I'm still a little annoyed by Riche, I can somehow understand her point but she express it in such a stubborn and unsympathetic way.

Volume 4's cover art was put up finally. It's none of those that I thought it might be from the stickers.
-
I like where the last chapter is headed, btw. The water thing is nice already, but I'm even more curious to find out what creative ways to overcome the situation Riché will come up with.

Chapter 21's been translated but for some reason hasn't been uploaded to either Mangadex or the translator's site so here, I uploaded it to download.

Thank you for that!

Chapter 21 is finally up on Mangadex

Dun dun duunnnnnnnnnn!!!

Just catch up on this. First thougth is I wish I were a magician and learnt some spells
On second, at times, I find it a bit tooo cute to my taste. But it's ok and Brimhats are quite the characters and they are comming… yeah!
Now isn't Qyfrey a bit crazy?
-
Qifrey has something personal against the Brimhats that we don't know much about yet. The closer he gets to them the more desperate he becomes and he's been making some stupid mistakes. He also seems to be working for someone, who he calls in chapter 2 or 3, that hasn't been revealed yet. So it's another faction that isn't the witch community or the Brimhats. Probably some faction that isn't afraid to use forbidden magic to combat the Brimhats but we'll see where that goes.

Oh boy Qifrey and Coco got quite a situation on their hands.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is the first time I wasn't notified pretty quickly of a chapter coming out. Seems every time I'm thinking it's taking too long, a new one comes out. I've been wondering about that page with all the blank panels for a while. There's probably a reason for it but it just looks unfinished to me. The Brimhat saying the Pointed Hats were criminals is interesting. So I guess they staged some kind of coup or something. I kind of like the mystery but it would be nice to get a couple of chapters in the past at some point to make some of this stuff more concrete.
-
Ouch. It's tough to be a teacher.
-
It's getting real now.
-
Yeap. I like the contrast between the brimhats darkness and the little aprentices cuteness.

I guess a little bit of confidence can turn you into a wolf.
That's roof. I'll see my self out. -
You knew this couldn't end well.
-
The gold people being alive is weird to me. They talked about it earlier but I don't know if they just live there all the time or if the brimhat somehow summoned them. Also Qifrey's actions (how he reacted to Coco reaching for his covered eye) continue to be strange. His back also looks weird in the last panel but I don't know if it's just blood or something.
-
Qifrey is under a spell and is half human with a reptilian eye…

! Yuini's a goner. Also I think it's suspicious Alaira was left unharmed.
-
I get they are still children but I think is too much naivety to don't understand that people that been cursed into a millennia or more being a golden living statue would accept death as peace.
-
As for me I rather liked it. Both apprentices are very young (I think) and Coco especially has lived a simple, relatively sheltered life until recently. I do hope they will see the gold people's choice with some perspective eventually, but it doesn't bother me that they initially fail to grasp it. All the more since their intention was to not hurt anyone and provide comfort.
And yes, Alaira is surprisingly lucky…Maybe too much so

Amazing I hadn't thought what a tattoo might indicate here. Uh oh . . . .

Another fabulous chapter with beautiful art. Riche is learning to learn. But her poor brother and the professor definitely have some priest/altar boy vibes to them.
-
Nice to see more of Riche's brother after that short dream a few chapters ago. Yeah, there's something going on there. Nice callback to Riche being able to draw glyphs really small. The brimhat is still there so the danger isn't over. And he's carrying Yuini wolf around with him.
-
Riché on a beach.
And for someone the knows magic the witches are pretty orthodox in their ways. -
Apparently a new chapter should be out soon but the people scanlating it released revised pages that were in the volume version of some of the recent chapters. One of them has what looks like just an added sound effect but one of them is nearly completely redrawn and a couple have patterns to fill up what was originally blank space. This page is the one that is completely redrawn it seems. It looks a lot better.

It also gives a better idea of where they are than the original page did.

Short chapter. Mostly character introductions for more auditorium members.
-
Fun characters. Of course that jerk of a teacher is also a twit.
-
Am I the only one that think Estheath will be related to Agathe?
-
Why do you think so? We know kind of who Agathe's parents are (or at least her family name) and she was disowned. Anything's possible but I haven't seen anything even pointing to that myself.
-
Oh, just catched up and instantly fell in love with this manga. Thanks for sharing pariston…
But somehow I didn't like Richés eureka moment... not that she had it, but rather how it was handled. I hope she still stays the Riché she wants to be though... -

Oh things are getting clearer with the whole Qifrey secret.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
! So what is Qifrey's relationship to the Brimhats he mentions? Are they related or are they just linked through the eye? The combat was cool. Wasn't expecting the cloak to just be something controlled. Still not clear on the Brimhats' objective though. They just want a story of an unknowing becoming a witch and then using forbidden magic?
Also apparently they're finally caught up so ideally we'll be getting chapters as they come out. I'm really happy about that and there was a point I thought it would never happen. -
! I think a close relative of Qifrey joined the Brimhats. My guess is that the guy that gave Coco the magical fountain pen is the one Qifrey is after.
And on their point, I guess making an unknowing use magic would probably reveal that any one can do it, why it has to be forbidden magic though is beyond me.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I hope they clarify at some point whether Coco has anything special about her, or if she was just the first person to take the book from the guy. I could see Coco becoming some sort of messiah of the Brimhats after 6-7 years between her getting the book and actually using it I guess.
-
New artbook. Unfortunately I don't have the money for it and I don't even think the story ships to the US. Hopefully someone scans it. Don't know if it's original art or not but the title of it is "Reproductions" so it might just be large form versions of pages from the manga or manuscripts, which I think it specifically says in the text.
-
Nice little fighting scene, wish for more of this…
-
Coco is gonna become the Queen of Witches.

I was worried about them saying that inverting a forbidden glyph wasn't forbidden. And that they were saying it's not something anyone ever thought to do. Hopefully that's just talk from really inexperienced people because the idea is kind of silly. I'm glad it didn't work though because I think that would have been incredibly contrived. I really don't know if Coco is going to cast forbidden magic or not. It would be interesting if the story does go in that direction.
Edit: Also, Agathe drew an inverted version of the forbidden glyph so I expect that to come up sometime later unless we're really rolling with the "inverted glyphs don't count as forbidden thing". And the magic security people are apparently on their way to the area they're fighting in I think.
-
I wonder if these little girls (especially Coco) can understand the moral arguments for not using forbidden magic.
Why is changing the form profanity? Arguably because you're not human anymore.
Why is transgressing the mind oppression? Arguably because you're invading a person's mind without permission, which is immoral and unfair.
Why is transforming the world destruction? Arguably because to create you must destroy, and destruction of the world is not something you play with.
Why is transcending mortality taboo? Arguably because immortality is a Pandora's Box of problems, not the least of which is what it does to yourself. -

I may be remembering it wrong, but I don't think there are forbidden glyphs. What is forbidden is drawing the spell on a person, not the spell itself (and Agathe drew the "counter glyph" on a paper and covered the one on Eunie's body with it, rather than drawing it on Eunie).
-
I think transformation glyphs would still be forbidden even if not drawn on a person. But even if that's some kind of loophole it still should have come up in the however many hundreds of years before the story takes place.

The first volume came out in the US today. It's better quality than I expect from US manga, having only really bought stuff from Viz. It has the couple of color pages at the beginning of the first chapter and it's nearly 1 inch taller and wider than the Viz volumes I have. The sound effects also have unobtrusive notes next to them rather than completely redrawing them, which is more than I can say even about the scanlations. Some of the names are an issue though like I imagined. It's not that bad though. Riche is Richeh (helps to pronounce it right but they could have just put an accent over the a like the scanlations do) and Agathe (which was already changed once when the new scan group took over) is Agott. They also have different names for the magic stuff. Instead of rune, keystone, glyph it's sigil, sign, and ring. But besides those nitpicky translation/transliteration issues it seems like the series is going to get a pretty high quality release. I wish they released a version with the special edition covers too but it doesn't seem like they will.
Edit: I just realized that the summary on the back is a rhyming poem. That's pretty cool.

New arc starting next chapter.

You just want to know more about the stupid Brimhats.

So it's either The Magical Spanish Inquisition or an Anarchist Terrorist Group…Good what could end wrong?

Ara ara ara Witch! Finally a waifu on the Kakyoin radar. -
I'm not a fan of ara ara characters. It's interesting though that there's a single witch that's allowed to practice medicine. It's weird though that the assistants live and work in a big witch place and not only aren't witches but don't know any more about witches than normal people do. The funniest part of the chapter though is the witch doctor thinking Orugio, the master of fire magic, came in for burn treatment.
