The King of Fighters XIV

It's a real shame we're not getting Vanessa or Shen Woo as boxers. I always thought their fighting styles and designs were really fun.
But I'm still pretty meh about this game overall.
-
Athena = A simple outfit, it's not bad…But I can't feel the "Idol" vibe anymore.
Luong = She is Kim's wife ? O_O Besides her looks I really enjoyed her kicks, they seem easy to combo.
Nelson = Meh, just a boxer, nothing new, his design is ok. -
Kim's Master's Wife.
Nelson immediately reminded me of Heavy D. -
Luong…..seems crazy.
I think Dudley looks pretty cool, glad he's coming over from SFIV to this game
As for Athena....does it bother anyone else the infantilization\kawaii-overload that they have been giving her since 11? I loved how she was aging and got more various changes in her hair and costumes as the games when on (and, since they aged, she ditched the highschool costume). She's supposed to be the same age as Kyo but it's like they de-aged her to be in highschool again. There are more idol costumes than a school outfit (unfortunately I suspect that she is in school again). She used to be one of the most varied characters in terms of looks but now she is boring.

I totally agree with you about Athena, but I think that its her "theme" to be an kawaii idol/School girl. If you took that out she wouldn't be "Athena", but I guess they could do something better, like they did with Kensou.

I wouldn't care if they kept up the idol theme as long as they ditched the schoolgirl theme and never do stuff like this again:
!
She basically got de-aged:
!
-
I liked that picture you used, do you know if there is more with other characters ? SNK lost the route with Athena, it seems like they don't know what to do with her. I would love if they keep the idol theme, especially based on the clothes she wore in KOF 2013.
Going through that leaked roster, Kensou looks nice in this game, I did not like his "new" green outfit.
-
NELSON
This young boxing prodigy has lost an arm after a terrible accident, but has been able to go back quickly into the ring thanks to a prosthesis conceived based on the last advanced robotic techniques. He fights now in order to seize the crown of World Champion, while hoping every day his partner will come out from a coma.

It's the official artwork for XII, the page is linked from the SNK wiki I believe.
Curiously, XII was the only KOF game I never played. I didn't buy it because I was upset that the game was basically a middle finger to fans and totally chose to eschew the format of 3 stories and then a dream bout and the excuses at the time were garbage. Zoom-in mode seemed stupid and it was incredibly short sighted to cut some of the most popular characters (No Mai but Chin got in? Seriously?) and ditch endings and teams. Basically, it seemed rather pointless to even release it in the first place. I honestly wish they kept the same art-style from XI and kept releasing games yearly. I played the KOF games BECAUSE of the story and with it missing….why bother? It's not like they patch the games like Capcom and Street Fighter so they are never going to be on the same scale and I liked the individuality that all of the characters exhibit.

I was talking about the 2nd image, the one with the comparison of Athena's sprites.
And in KOF XII she was wearing a "tribute" to her original outfit, just like Kensou.
[hide][/hide]I am the only one that sees "Vanessa" in Nelson's moveset ?
-
And people complain about the art design of the new game.
-
^ AHAHAHA
The bad thing about Athena's new outfit is that I thought we were going to have a J Pop Idol battle between Athena and Sylvie Paula Paula.
-
The 10th King of Fighters XIV teaser trailer went live today on Playstation's Youtube channel. Just over a minute long, the new trailer confirms the return of 2 veterans: Geese Howard and Ryo Sakazaki.
Notice at 0:19 in the trailer, Fatal Fury Team member Joe Higashi gets countered by Geese.
-
Geeesee!
Lol they just inserted Higashi without a reveal. -
I was surprised to see Geese countering so many attacks..I LMAO with that video.
-
Not KOF related, but it is fitting.
It's been confirmed that designer & producer Hidetoshi Ishizawa (Neo_G) has departed from Capcom to work for SNK Playmore. Ishizawa's decorated resume lists a ton of iconic fighting games, including: MVC2, MVC3, CVS2, SF3 series, SFA2 & Darkstalkers. With SNK Playmore planning on reviving other classic franchises after KOF14, it would appear Ishizawa wants to continue his work in the genre. Definitely good news for SNK fans!
-
That poor deluded fool.
-
New trailer, introducing 2 new fighters, MuiMui and Kukri.
SNK Playmore has been randomly releasing new KOF XIV screenshots each week via Twitter. One of the latest screenshots shows a classic pre-fight interaction between Geese Howard and his faithful henchman, Billy Kane. This confirms the return of "special intro" animations which will occur between specific fighters before each match. Hopefully SNK will include many more of these in KOF 14!
-
Damn it, I want to mock Kukri for being an edgelord but he looks so cool…
-
I know, he is a mix of Crocodile with M. Bison. (0:29) and MuiMui..meh, she reminds me of Jam Kuradoberi.
-
Kukri makes me think of Hazama meets part 1 Gaara. Mui Mui should have been Li Xiangfei. The only neat thing about her from the trailer is her horizontal Tenshokyaku.
-
Mai Shiranui and new character: Banderas Hattori (the "brazilian ninja" from the leaked list):
Ok, so they FINALLY got a trailer right. This one was really funny and as a Samurai Shodown fan I loved all the references in Banderas' moves.
"YAMATO NADESHIKO! WOW. FUJIYAMA! KUNOICHI" I am laughing hard here
-
So, Banderas is a guy that was watching so many Naruto episodes that he started to think he's a ninja ?:ninja: Well, I missed his football.
Great trailer BTW.
-
Ironically, he's already more ninja-like then Mai ever was.

They're getting better at this. Both in the editing, and in having some fun with it. First time we've seen english subtitles too, right?
They need more stuff like this if they want to market to people who aren't already KoF fans.
-
All the teams I believe have been shown now.
-
I assume the guy on team China with the headphones is this games Ash?
-

-
If I wasn't sold before, I am now. Game looks sick, I don't think anyone can even complain about the graphics anymore.

SNK related news:
There are very few game company slogans as immediately recognizable as SNK's "The Future is Now", which became iconic in 1990's arcades. Back in 2001, SNK was taken over by Playmore, only to change to "SNK Playmore" 2 years later. Now in 2016, SNKP's official twitter just announced that the company name will come full circle, returning simply to "SNK" and restoring "The Future is Now" as its official slogan! This can only be a sign of good things to come…(Source:

About the DLC skin for Kyo, is just me or the idea of new skins for the characters as a possible DLC is a good one ? A Shen Woo skin for Nelson, a Hattori skin for Banderas, MR. Karate skin for Ryo or the tuxedos of the last game for Vice and Mature ?
That or new stages.
-
SNK going all uroboros.
-
SNK uploaded the first official "team trailer" for The King of Fighters XIV. Team Japan is up first, with Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido and Goro Daimon getting the spotlight. The trailer runs about 1 and a half minutes long, and shows Goro Daimon in KOF XIV gameplay for the first time ever.
Goro with open eyes ? What is happening, SNK ?
-
I kind of feel like they should have done the chracter reveals like this in the first place.
-
SNK just posted their second official "team trailer" for The King of Fighters XIV. This time take a look at Team Yagami, starring Iori, Vice, and Mature. Note that this is the first time Mature has been shown in KOF XIV gameplay. The trailer highlights some of each characters new moves, specials, and Desperation.
I liked the effects they used in Mature's slashes and I also liked that Vice chain combo.
-
SNK released the third " team trailer" for The King of Fighters XIV. This week's trailer highlights the classic Fatal Fury team, featuring the 3 iconic heroes of the original fighting game series: Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard and Joe Higashi. This is also the first time that Muay Thai specialist Joe Higashi has been shown in King of Fighters XIV gameplay.
Ah SNK, why you tease us so much with Joe ? -

The next team to receive a trailer is the Art of Fighting.
-
New trailer: Art of Fighting team:
Ryo looks more mature, so I guess Takuma finally retired his fighting days (I can be wrong), Robert..Meh, his new moustache is fine, I liked his overall agility to make combos and Yuri, I am glad that they kept her goofiness, but she looks and sound so young that it is creepy.
-
There were times during Yuri's part of the trailers I thought I was looking at sprites.
-
The fourth official team trailer for The King of Fighters XIV shows off all 3 TaeKwonDo experts of Team Kim. Along with the Fatal Fury / KOF series veteran (and team leader) Kim Kaphwan, newcomers Luong and Gang-Il demonstrate their awesome kicking techniques.
Kim: Same old, same old, I am glad that he is now a more aerial combo type of character.Luong: Nothing new, I liked her kicking combos and that finishing move.
Gang-il: That summer-salt:ninja:, also, I really liked that counter/dash.
-
HERE WE GO, VILLAIN BOIZ
Xanadu is fuckin' amazing
-
The jail stage looks great.. (especially with that cage hanging from the ceiling).
Chang = His gameplay look more fluid, but I still miss his awesome dance (HSDM from KOF 2002)
Choi = More Wolverine like, good.
Xanadu = CREEPY !! But he does has a good taste for coats.
-
I am curious as to what the heck is up with Xanadu. but Choi's voice is annoying as hell, lol
-
Atlus released a new trailer for King of Fighters XIV today, showcasing Team Official Invitation which is made up of Kukri, Sylvie and Mian. According to the storyline, these fighters were invited to the KOF XIV tournament by the billionaire and final boss, Antonov. The trailer demonstrates Mian in gameplay for the first time, along with providing a closer look at Kukri and Sylvie.Sylvie: Cute but a bit evil.
Kukri: I liked his poses, he is cool.
Mian: Wow…such a weird feeling, I was expecting a slow/grab type of character, not a fast assassin with a fan. -
Wasn't expecting Mian to be a lady. Cool.
-
Those are some kooky SOB's right there.
-
And that theme, wow !! The only "bad" thing is that this team is super random.
-
Nah, there's a theme there. a loose one, but it's there.
They're all themed around being hidden. Sylvie hides a brutal, sadistic personality under her cutesy exterior, Kukri conceals his face in the shadows of his hood and Mian has her masks.
Not to mention, their stage is a Masquerade. It's not much, but there's a theme there for our little troublemakers
-
There is a speculation that they are related to the past villains of KOF. We already know that Sylvie was part of NESTS, Kukri might be part of "those from the past" of the Ash saga due the similarity of the clothes and Mian is left with Orochi even though she reminds me of Duo Lon.
But I think this theory is a bit farfetched.
Anyway, I really want to listen to their music theme "Venator Ballare", its so beautiful.
KOF > SF ?
-
Mian could be part of whoever's using the tournament this time around
