I would play board games a whole lot more if I could get friends together more often and I find it one the best ways to spend time with other people - kicking movies, video games and suchs out the window. Everybody always has blast excluding the guy who lost. I prefer German style games mostly and my puny collection includes: Puerto Rico, Age of Steam, Tikal and Carcassone for lighter fun. Tikal is probably my favourite. There are punch of other games I would like to buy but unfortunately I haven't been able to play these little gems enough to justify a new purchase.
Board Game Geeks?

Monopoly was always my favourite board game, scrabble is good too, and cluedo.
I remember having Jumanji, Roller Coaster Tycoon and Mr. Bean games, I loved them, ESPECIALLY the Mr. Bean one, its just too funny.
-
all me and my friends need was some caffiene and a game of RISK
-
I always wanted to play the board game of risk, I used to have it for the PC a while ago, now I just play the free version on the Doctor Who site.
-
ah, my friends and I love bored games. They have a bunch of really unique ones. Of coarse, I remember the names of none of them. Well, actually, the games, "chez geek" and "robo rally" come to mind.
and speaking of risk, "whoo! Undergrads!" (anyone who's seen it will know what I'm talking about)
-
anyone ever heard of "Munchkin"?

Monopoly will always be a favourite of mine. I'm searching for the Nintendo Monopoly to get, that and the Batman version.
I loved 13 Dead End Drive when I was a kid, I mean c'mon you get to kill people! It's a bugger to set up though.
For recent type games, I absolutely love Cranium. It's a blast when you have a lot of people. I'm not very good at the data stuff or the word stuff either, I'm better with the creative or the acting stuff. So as long as I have a partner that can cover the other 2, its a good team I wonder what'd it'd be like if everyone was drunk.
Also the Scene It? games are fun as well. Haven't play the Disney version, but I think I'd be fine with the questions pertaining to the cartoons, a couple live action ones I could do except the old ones, then not so much. I can clean up at the Harry Potter version, cuz I'm a geek and remember stuff from the movie easily. My sisters hate playing the Harry Potter trivia game with me since I retain useless knowledge and can remember most of it, espcially if you give me multiple choice.
With that said, I'm terrible at Trivial Pursuit, perhaps because it's a smart person's game.

Monopoly and RISK were very popular amongst me and my friends, we once organised a league table of wins for monopoly. The first person to get to 20 wins in our group got a deluxe version of Monopoly, that the others all pitched in some money to buy. I didn't win unfortunately.
We didn't follow the rules completely while playing it but we made up rules that made the game that bit more fun. E.G. You could be in debt to people and keep playing but as soon as you hit £2000+ debt, you had to pay it off, however possible until you got back to £1999 or less. I can still remember the mad scramble auctions for properties when such a circumstance arose.

Haven't any off u ever played chess before?
ANd what's Risk…I think I know the rules on how the game monopoly is played, but I haven't played risk before.
Neway...I think chess is d best board game....I've memorized 4 strategies in my entire chess life already.....clever me

anyone ever heard of "Munchkin"?
HELL YES. I have Munchkin, Kung-Fu Munchkin, and Space Munchkin. That game is an absolute blast. XD
As far as board games, I like the classics already stated, Monopoly, and Risk is always great, and the futuristic Risk is fun too. Taking over the moon, woo!
Okay, I'm going to throw out my favorite board game from my childhood which probably no one will remember, but here goes. Heroquest. Heroquest RULED. I wish my brothers hadn't been so abusive with the game, it's now in shoddy condition and half the figures are broken. :\
I also liked Mouse Trap, even though half the time the contraption wouldn't work right. XD;;

anyone ever heard of "Munchkin"?
YES!! my friend is such a bastard at that game. (which is why I probably like chez geek better)
-
But being a bastard is the POINT of Munchkin! :p
I bought the Chez Geek cards, but never actually played the game. I mostly just bought 'em because they were by John Kovalic.
EDIT: I love Kovalic's other games though, Apples to Apples is great fun, stayed up all night playing that with some friends a couple of years ago. XD;;

Monopoly should be called "How to ruin a friendship," because I get together with 4 other guys and the testosterone over who will win is like watching a DBZ episode.
I remember one time I ended up winning (because everyone conceded) having only the electric and railroad companies, and hotels on one of the green areas, but we were playing favors (when you don't have enough money to pay, you give a free pass when that player lands on your hotels) so I ended up with passes on all the hotels. (I landed on boardwalk 3 times) so long story short I ended up with all the money and everyone hated me for that day.Lately I've also been playing Cranium is pretty fun too, especially the acting out games, the humming games really get insane; people cursing at each other because they didn't humm it right, listening to the other team is considered cheating etc

I love Monopoly. We used to play it all the time at family gatherings, but now my brother in law is not allowed to play with us. He is so competitive, and tries to for "alliances" with the other players, just so me and my sister will lose. Then we get pissed off at him and quit.
Not really a board game, but I love Skipbo. Me, my sister, and my friend will play that every time we get together.
I love Cranium too. I would love to the Scene It games. I could probably give snow yeti a run for the money on the Harry Potter one.
-
all me and my friends need was some caffiene and a game of RISK
Seconded.
I've always liked board games, especially Monopoly, Scrabble, and games like Trivial Pursuit, and other random knowledge themed games. I almost always lose in Scrabble though, I hold out for one letter the entire game, and end up only putting really small crappy words.

But being a bastard is the POINT of Munchkin! :p

so true, the more of a bastard you the better chances are that you'll win. I always get pissed off at everyone whenever I play that game then try to screw people over but I'm not very good at it.
never heard of Apples to Apples.

Ah, boardgames are so fun! I love playing Cranium, its so much fun! Clue is also pretty fun and so is Monopoly… can't go wrong with that game.... but then again there are millions of versions of it now, lol
-
Wow, I thought cranium was fairly new, surprised so many people know/play it heheh ^^
-
When I was in grade school is was a huge fan of the game life. Just so I could see how well i could make it out there by myself.

I play chess, that count?

I enjoy chess once in a while even though I'm usually the guy who loses. I think BoardGameGeek's ranking is a bit too low for this one though - Chess being 189th. It deserves better.
