What matters is the bond, not the length of time, especially with Luffy and a series that going to continue more than half a decade after this if not longer if Oda delays other arc for new stuff or expanded old ideas he had planned to be shorter.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There won't be any "new" characters joining after Wano. The SHs have already made it to the new world and gotten 2 of the 4 road poneglyphs (it'll be 3 by the end of Wano). A new character joining after all of those accomplishments would seriously detract from their overall place in the crew.
That is easily fixed by having the new crew member be crucial in acquiring the last poneglyph and any other areas. I find that the complaint about it being too far in the story, the Straw Hats have acquired too much for someone new to make an impression, I find all that to be merely ones own prejudices and lack of faith that Oda could introduce a character at any point in the story and make them important, or even a Straw Hat. They got the first road poneglyph without Jimbe, would that have ruled him him out? Hell, what about the entire story, where the Road Poneglyph were only disclosed less than 100 chapters ago? Just make the first half of the Grand Line a cutting point. Those types of constraint are useless when building a story.
I wouldn't be bothered if the last member joins as an aftermath of the Final War. It all depends on how the story is built to that point. Obviously, I'd like to see them all together for a big part of the voyage having adventures together. Do I find it necessary though? Not really, otherwise I would have liked them all to be there after they made their promise before going to Reverse Mountain.
On the other hand, having a mink (Carrot) join who will have been there when they acquired three road poneglyphs and faced two emperors would make them fit in way easier. It would also make more sense to have the minks represented on the future pirate king's crew given the minks current connection to Roger and Wano/poneglyphs, not to mention the relationship between the minks and the SH crew. Plus, Oda said there will be new SHs and that they would join successively (with Jinbei being a lock). It just makes sense that Carrot would have the highest chances we've seen in a long time. Edit: I forgot the whole role thing, but she's obviously done the lookout/scout thing enough to have that role as well.

That and saving/freeing Luffy and Nami from the Book when Opera was gonna torture Nami for information about Lola with a crossbow.
And a few moments before they reached the surface in ID and the stuff with Jimbei with Bon Clay.
Carrot declining if asked would be very amusing, seeing as how it was her idea to tag along in the first place. Not that her tagging along necessarily means she has no issues with leaving Zou permanently, but it's still funny to try and visualize her being like "Nah I'm good." Responsibility-wise, hmm, we'll have to see. On one hand, she clearly has no issues with leaving her post, and Wanda wasn't that bothered by it either, she's just glad she's safe. I feel that if Oda wanted to have her specifically decline in the future, he would have gone a route where Carrot is like super regretful that she came or something, because of Pedro's death. But the majority believe he'll come back, so I guess that wouldn't be an issue. But yea anyways, I'm fairly sure she'll be different from Vivi in that regard. (Helps that she isn't royalty.)
Personally, I think that if she doesn't join, it won't be through her declining, but just that Luffy simply doesn't ask her to join.

As for the whole length issue regarding the last crewmate, it's definitely a bias thing for a lot of people. On one hand, I definitely agree that Oda really doesn't need that much time to endear us to a character. Newer characters have indeed missed a lot of important shit. But damn, even with that in mind, feels so wrong for the last person to not be around after a Yonko has been (presumably) taken down. Like, the only other moment that really tops that would be finding One Piece itself I guess. Oh well, guess we'll have to see.

Thank you for helping me realize that quite the opposite is true. Pedro would approve of a glorious unification of sun and moon. That IS the new dawn.

She's been portrayed as someone who doesn't exactly feel right staying put where she is. Everything from her curiosity about the world out there and her inability to fight with a sword just screams outcast. Plus if a will really is passed onto her she would want to see it through to the end first hand. Going back to Zou and fading into the background seems odd after all that build up. If her goals were to just be an outstanding mink and be a defender like she was trained to be it would have had a bit more focus I would hope.
What also irks me is with Pedro and to an extent Pekoms there was really no need to have her tag along past Zou arc with the former two we would have our fair share of mink coverage but her addition really sticks out as if there's more in store for her.

I don't see why not. It is different from Rayleigh telling them about One Piece. Luffy is not really interested in the poneglyphs, except now, the four he needs to get to Raftel. All the other 30~ stones can still be discovered and they don't have to be done by the Straw Hats and be delegated to a crew like the new "Nox Pirates".

The Nox pirates would be part of the grand fleet with a special task. She doesn't even need to find the fourth road poneglyph. She can find other ones that talk about history or the weapons. What she can do is find a clue that help the Straw Hats find the last poneglyph. Like a riddle that she passes on and the Straw Hats uncover. Also, she would co-captain with Pekoms it would be my guess, or Pedro, all three if this is her future role.

Gotcha. Both you and Count pulling my leg. But yeah with them travelling on Zunisha to accomplish what you said is a complete no no. Of course if they wander off on their own without any way of linking her back to the phantom country is plausible but considering her age I just don't see her being so bold as to start her own crew. That's like saying Chopper could do that. Way too young and naive for that.

But her being here doesn't accomplish anything as we have other minks to show, say, Ceylon. Why is she around. Having her be there for the elbaf convo, putting in little nuggets about pedro and the dawn where he could have skipped that and her reaction and the others reaction if he didnt want us to want her to join. She could have easily been Smoothie'd in the plot and while she missed decent parts of the post wedding parts I still feel odd about her role and how magnified it is at times, gives me an odd feeling. More like trying to figure out in my head what her use is. We have enough furry creatures to accomplish what she is giving us in recent chapters. There's more, there has to be.

Also read the last panel where they emphasize "that little girl!" She is not accomplishing anything on her own, pekoms is not going anywhere with her, Pedro's lifespan is on its last legs even if he is alive. Only one mentor left for her and that's Luffy.
Her being female, being unique enough as a mink to stand apart from the two human females we have already, having seamless chemistry with the crew already. How are they going to say bye to her after all this? Luffy is going to tell her to become nakama. Whether she says yes or no is up in the air.

The thing with his loyalty is that it is meanly flawed. Personally, I find that Big Mom being neutral or ally is not something I will like moving forward. And if she does end that way, then Pekoms story becomes less interesting. However, I think that Pekoms needs to leave Big Mom's side, not only because her crew didn't even care about him being shot by Bege, but because the reason she is with her is merely constructed on a wrong interpretation of a united nation AND, that as we saw with Jimbe, Luffy is actually the one that will bring forth that. So if Big Mom remains somewhat of an antagonist, Pekoms would have character growth if he leaves her side.

All we've seen from Pekoms is being stabbed in the back. I can't deny his likeability and the points you've raised but his absence for majority of the arc is way too clear to see that his purpose will end up being someone who comes in clutch right at the end of the arc. He hasn't had enough focus for me to start thinking that's going to change beyond this arc.

Pekoms is not commanding a Nox crew helping the strawhats behind Big Mom's back without her finding out. That's heresy and open rebellion. If BM becomes friends with Luffy and Co then fair enough. But I doubt it.
I feel as though the Minks have been highlighted too much as allies with both Carrot in this arc and the Pirate-Ninja-Mink-Samurai alliance in Wano Country for them to not join the Grand Fleet though. Rather than fade into the background like Alabasta until this happens after the Straw Hats get to Raftel:

Also read the last panel where they emphasize "that little girl!" She is not accomplishing anything on her own, pekoms is not going anywhere with her, Pedro's lifespan is on its last legs even if he is alive. Only one mentor left for her and that's Luffy.

Yes the mink alliance can help bring about change to the Wano situation but that in itself is not the ushering of the new dawn that Pedro spoke of. A mink has to see that happen and help make that happen one-day alongside the strawhats.

Being a thief fits her as much as her being a lookout. Also it is mostly suggested because of her relationship with Pedro and that was what he used to do. So if she inherits Pedro's will and bla bla bla, then she could assume that role as well.
Uh, I really just feel that that's pretty random to say that she wants to be a thief. At least you can see where people are going with the whole lookout angle, even if you disagree. It's not even like his last words for her to go steal more Poneglyphs or something.
Not really, if she can have her own Mink squad to travel the world, then they would cover more ground that the Straw Hats.
And I'm saying that I feel that it is unlikely for her to create a crew with a random group of Minks, as opposed to just accompanying the Straw Hats who we as readers are already familiar with. If it was something like where we knew there's a bunch of named Minks just chilling, ready to do something like that, that'd be another story. But so far, all we got is Pedro and Pekoms. A mink whose condition is alone, and another who people keep making the assumption that he'll defect from Big Mom, despite evidence continually pointing to the contrary.
I don't see why not. It is different from Rayleigh telling them about One Piece. Luffy is not really interested in the poneglyphs, except now, the four he needs to get to Raftel. All the other 30~ stones can still be discovered and they don't have to be done by the Straw Hats and be delegated to a crew like the new "Nox Pirates".
I'm not talking about Luffy not wanting his adventure spoiled. (Although one could argue that as well) I meant in the sense that their primary goal is to collect the four Red Poneglyphs. I don't recall them really needing all the other ones, their objective is pretty clear. And as such, outside of like Robin, they wouldn't really care. Hell, it was Inu and Neko themselves that told them about the Red Poneglyphs and their locations in the first place, so it'd be pretty weird to get to a point where they form a Mink crew in order to find the rest of them. You'd think they would have brought that up earlier if it actually mattered, unless I've forgotten something.

Also just to kill whatever is left of the "chilling at zou" carrot theory, its been hinted at in zou that zunisha cant be their home forever and with the bonds of the minks and samurai, the possibilities of the zou citizens living at wano is pretty high by the end of the wano arc, if carrot stays with them for long enough and the marines have a presence there carrot getting a bounty and being forced to stay on the seas isnt super unlikely
Speaking of bounties, while I got no idea if they'll actually get a bounty after this, I felt even more unsure about what would happen with Carrot. You don't have to actually be all in the enemy's face or whatever to get a bounty (i.e. Dressrosa), but Sanji and co. are a part of the crew, so it's only natural for their bounties to increase even if they're not there. Carrot isn't a part of the crew, and the most relevant thing she did was help acquire access to the Mirror World, it's pretty low-key stuff. So I really wondered if she'd get anything (assuming Luffy and co. did of course) That is, until this chapter, where she's now terrorizing the ship(s) with her Ceylon form, all eyes on her. I wonder how that will play out in regards to her potential infamy.

That's how she's been portrayed, don't think I'm making that up (I hope I'm not anyway) the minks will see it happen from a distance but her involvement personally will have the Pedro arc come full circle. A bittersweet ending to his drawn out life goals to usher in real change to the way this world is run. Getting a panel of her being emotional whilst being with her people won't be satisfying enough. All she would have done is help defeat Kaido with her people.

She has blonde hair like Sanji (every crewmate who does not have default balk hair has a unique hair color), she has a dumbed down version of Luffy's kooky idiot who likes adventure personality, one of Chopper's dreams is to see the world, her mentor literally blew himself up just like Chopper's mentor did, her flashback of sucking at sword fighting was like Zoro's flashback of sucking at sword fighting, Nami already wields lightning, Sanji can already hop through the air, and her clothes are really really bland compared to the rest of the Straw Hats.
Carrot stands out PLOT-wise, but Jinbe stood out plot, design, and characterization-wise in contrast. Her dream is also vague as hell. Kind of sounds like Jinbe's too if his dream is actually wanting improved Human-Fishman relations lol unless he's getting a second flashback at the end of this arc or Wano Country like Robby is predicting.

I am not saying she wants to be a thief. But she knows that Pedro was one, so in a way to honor his memory she would be following his footsteps moving forward. It is not even about me disagreeing about the lookout thing. It is 1) Ussop will overshadow her at doing said role 2) everyone is just stretching and forcing this role on her because she is using binoculars. At least the thief thing can be attached to Pedro's will, not to mention her innate ability to be undetectable through observation haki, her agility and electro (stunning) are perfect for covert operations.

However, that evidence always has a little shadow of his loyalty being misplaced. This is also hinges on Big Mom not becoming an ally/neutral character to the Straw Hats. If that happens then Pekoms would remain. But it would be more interesting, at least for his character development, if Big Mom was an antagonist and Pekoms had to make a decision: leave or stay.

The Rio Poneglyph is not only Robin's dream but it is the crux on the entire Void century plot, and to accomplish that they have to collect at least the historical stones. So with the entire collection of writings they can understand the history of the world. The Rio Poneglyph isn't just one stone at the end of Raftel. Tamago informed us that there are 30 stones. This is something that needs to be tackled upon but I also don't see the Straw Hats finding the remaining poneglyphs on their own. With the introduction of the Nox pirates and Pedro's goal in forming them. I see a nice solution for the Straw Hats to go from island to island still, while someone else handles finding clues or Poneglyph copies.

See this is where it is hard to argue. You are talking about all this development she would have if your scenario pans out, but if it does not, you sum it all up: "all she would have done is help defeat Kaido". So yeah, if Pedro is in fact dead I could see that being a first step to her being developed as a future crew member. However, there are other ways she can still be relevant without her being the last crew member.

Even the writer must have felt that hence allowing for some more build up. Carrot will get more build up because she's sticking around up until at least the conclusion of Wano. We may yet see more of her new found ambition come to the forefront of things, maybe. Carrot's hair turns white in Lion form, does that count? Lol her simple design works wonders though from an artist standpoint. Oda is having a field trip drawing her after almost 3 decades, he needs simplicity in his life haha. But yeah my point is exactly That, she is yet to receive more build up and she may still get that in the not so distant future to properly earn her place. If Pedro wasn't literally dying I would have hoped for him to join but he's a dying man. A mink should join to mix things up, only one mink vibing with the Strawhats at the moment. If someone else receives that care and attention I'll happily switch my focus to them.

Disagree, Jimbe should have joined after the war. He more than earned his place in the crew after the events of Fishman Island. If anything, him not joining, besides elaborating on Big Mom, was solely because the Straw Hats needed to adventure after the two year time skip without adding such a power house to the team. This is consistent with the idea that the crew is separate because the adventure would be too easy otherwise.
Jinbei was afforded the time and build across God knows how many arcs now, if he joined say right after fishman island no one would thoroughly feel like he earned his place. Even the writer must have felt that hence allowing for some more build up.
…Huh? I thought everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, thought that Jinbe earned his place at the end of Fishman Island. He could have joined right there and nobody would've complained. The only reason he was delayed wasn't because he was missing anything, but moreso because he was still too big of a player to join the Straw Hats prior to Dressrosa (as strong as Luffy and having a higher bounty) and having in unexpected role in Totland.
Carrot will get more build up because she's sticking around up until at least the conclusion of Wano. We may yet see more of her new found ambition come to the forefront of things, maybe.
But all of this stuff is just "maybe". That's a lot of what people keep saying about Carrot. That she has potential. But we have no idea what that potential could be. All we have are these breadcrumbs. Breadcrumbs that are all underwhelming in every single aspect when paired alongside the plot/character traits of any Straw Hat.

When Chopper has seven-nine transformation designs that all stand out and Carrot only has two (one being bland and the other being limited to when the full moon is around), that indicates a lack of main character interest towards Carrot from Oda in my opinion.
White hair WOULD make for a unique crewmate design. But hopefully Oda is saving that for a tomboy grandma.

You mean in being easy to draw from how generic it is? I'm not really sure that's praise. Especially when Luffy, the protagonist, has a simple design that Oda drew on purpose so that future characters of One Piece could look wilder and more unique. And yet Luffy stands out more than Carrot does amongst the crew lol.
Oda gets his doses of simplicity from drawing supporting allies in arcs. Hence the Grand Fleet (and he put a lot more work into how Bartolomeo, Sai, Leo, and Ideo look than Carrot). That's probably why Carrot is present in this arc while half of the crew is absent. Because it lets him playa round with new characters and interactions for a while if an arc has a huge cast of characters to deal with and the main crew is getting a bit stale due to static characterizations with very gradual development over the whole series.
But yeah my point is exactly That, she is yet to receive more build up and she may still get that in the not so distant future to properly earn her place. If Pedro wasn't literally dying I would have hoped for him to join but he's a dying man. A mink should join to mix things up, only one mink vibing with the Strawhats at the moment. If someone else receives that care and attention I'll happily switch my focus to them.
Pedro has blonde hair and smoke cigarettes like Sanji, likes to be a martyr like Jinbe, is a third swordsman like Zoro and Brook (and unlike how their sword styles are different, Pedro uses a rapier/fencing like Brook), and is a furry animal like Chopper.
A Mink doesn't need to join to shake things up when we already have Chopper. Let's wait until Wano Country to see if any cool ninjas, Yokai, or whatever makes a big impression.

It matters because if you want to keep insisting on the Nox Pirate being reformed, then it obviously would help for there to be Minks laying around that have actually expressed a desire to reform it, as opposed to Carrot just picking whoever. It seems like something he'd foreshadow by now.

Tamago said only 9 stones, as well as the Red Poneglyphs, actually mattered though. The Straw Hats could very well come across them on their travels organically, they only need 7 more after all. If the Minks wanted to help them out with that, again, you'd think they would've said something earlier, instead of telling them to focus on the four red ones. Really no need for a separate crew to take up the task, never mind the fact that Carrot isn't exactly leader material. As for Pekoms, regardless of whether he defects, it's a big leap to say he'll not only do that, but also join such a crew.

…Huh? I thought everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, thought that Jinbe earned his place at the end of Fishman Island. He could have joined right there and nobody would've complained. The only reason he was delayed wasn't because he was missing anything, but moreso because he was still too big of a player to join the Straw Hats prior to Dressrosa (as strong as Luffy and having a higher bounty) and having in unexpected role in Totland.
But all of this stuff is just "maybe". That's a lot of what people keep saying about Carrot. That she has potential. But we have no idea what that potential could be. All we have are these breadcrumbs. Breadcrumbs that are all underwhelming in every single aspect when paired alongside the plot/character traits of any Straw Hat.
When Chopper has seven-nine transformation designs that all stand out and Carrot only has two (one being bland and the other being limited to when the full moon is around), that indicates a lack of main character interest towards Carrot from Oda in my opinion.
White hair WOULD make for a unique crewmate design. But hopefully Oda is saving that for a tomboy grandma.
You mean in being easy to draw from how generic it is? I'm not really sure that's praise. Especially when Luffy, the protagonist, has a simple design that Oda drew on purpose so that future characters of One Piece could look wilder and more unique. And yet Luffy stands out more than Carrot does amongst the crew lol.
Oda gets his doses of simplicity from drawing supporting allies in arcs. Hence the Grand Fleet (and he put a lot more work into how Bartolomeo, Sai, Leo, and Ideo look than Carrot). That's probably why Carrot is present in this arc while half of the crew is absent. Because it lets him playa round with new characters and interactions for a while if an arc has a huge cast of characters to deal with and the main crew is getting a bit stale due to static characterizations with very gradual development over the whole series.
Pedro has blonde hair and smoke cigarettes like Sanji, likes to be a martyr like Jinbe, is a third swordsman like Zoro and Brook (and unlike how their sword styles are different, Pedro uses a rapier/fencing like Brook), and is a furry animal like Chopper.
A Mink doesn't need to join to shake things up when we already have Chopper. Let's wait until Wano Country to see if any cool ninjas, Yokai, or whatever makes a big impression.
Sadly I agree with a lot of what you said. I get the feeling that's what naysayers of Carrot are holding out for, super cool ninja in Wano. If Carrot takes up a spot then the magical 11 people of the crew will be full leaving no room for another standout ninja character to join. Chopper isn't a mink. I guess I should have spoken for myself with the Jinbei situation, I felt like he needed to convince some more, yes he did a bunch of things for Luffy and they shouldn't be treated lightly (literally saved his life and helped him overcome the grief of Ace) but I still didn't feel like he was Strawhat material during fishman island. I'm won over now of course but back then he was a bit too bland personality wise. He still is but that works well to provide some contrast to the goofiness we're already used to among the crewmates. Definitely agree about being too big of a player against Doffy but then again nothing not even an admiral was stopping that blasted birdcage xD

I will not disagree that a Mink should see the dawn of the new world and help that cause. I just don't see why it has to be only with the Straw Hats while they can still do both without them being with them.

Humans are the base standard race for One Piece though. None of the human characters stand out because they're human, but because of other traits. But Franky stands out as a streaking cyborg shipwright. Brook stands out as cane sword wielding super speed pervert comedian skeleton musician. Jinbe stands out as yakuza boss-styled water bending karate whale shark man. And Chopper stands out as naive talking blue-nosed furry animal doctor with several monster transformations. Unless Carrot being a rabbit supposedly makes her different enough from a talking reindeer.
Yes, I know this makes me sound like a racist who wants token minority representation for supposed diversity lol. But for a fictional series though, it helps make all of these characters stand out individually and together all of the more. Because made up races in One Piece are surreal, rare, and special in what they offer both visually and functionally. A lot of the unique things they can do tend to be tied to their genetics whereas humans, as the base generic standard, have to rely on other attributes to be a big deal in comparison.

He feels a lot more blended in with the background than I expected his big delayed joining arc to be. Obviously he had cool moments like saving Luffy and Nami, defecting from Big Mom, and showing off his helmsmanship skills. But what I'm saying is that this doesn't put him above all of Brook's moments in this arc either in fighting Big Mom, stealing the Poneglyph scripts, and smashing Carmel's portrait. And let's not even get stated on Sanji.
I understand thinking that Jinbe has a bland personality. As much as I love him, I wish he has more going on there too aside from all of the "I will risk my life for so and so". But he can get his character expanded upon like Robin did after Enies Lobby.
