Perona accidentally being in Mihawk's place is hilarious
One Piece 6th Official Characters Popularity Poll announced

Hancock was in the 3D2Y anime special where Luffy fights Byrnndi World after training on Amazon Lily.
-
Also Hancock is a regular character that features in video games like Burning Blood and even mobile games like treasure cruise. I think people downplay the exposure of other forms of media. Manga isn't the be all end all for One Piece guys. Besides if you can accept that Ace will eternally hold top 5 or top 10 then I think you can accept other characters holding firm to their spot. People do "ship" Luffy and Hancock too so some votes come from that as well I imagine.

She was kickass in that special, no doubt it helped sustain her popularity lol

Comparing Ace with Hancock is kind of hard and undeserved

But that can apply to pretty much every single. And if anything, newer forms of media should influence fans to have newer characters on their mind or at least ones that have been recently relevant. Hancock hasn't. At all. Which means that Hancock's votes come from a mix of honestly being a favorite character, because she's hot, and all of the shippers. Which is okay for one poll. But… c'mon, it's been half a decade since we've seen her lol. I would really appreciate her and Marco standing down.
Ace isn't a fair comparison due to being such a major character linked to the protagonist and his death being one of the most emotional and surprising scenes in the series, and Sabo coming into play fanning the flames for everybody remembering him. And people are always suckers for a shonen protagonist's powerful big brother. A big character like that dying in a series is something that might never be let go of for understandable reasons. I only wish that Ace was actually an interesting and likable character while alive to actually deserve all of this attention (like Mr. 2, who was in the Top 20 in the Dressrosa poll), but that's another type of discussion lol.
And 3D2Y aired three years ago lol.

Ace was interesting, until they changed his boots for the impel down sad socks.

Alabasta Ace is fine as a cool, powerful, and polite older brother, but we don't see him again until his cover story, the brief fight with Blackbeard, and Impel Down/Marineford. Him being in such a desperate situation should immerse us into feeling bad that a character we have become so attached to is put into a position like this, but we barely got enough time with him to make that payoff feel like it was worth it. Especially with all of the last minute bonds established with the Whitebeard Pirates shoved down our throats. I only feel bad for Luffy, but even that doesn't feel like I am as invested in it as I should be since he's going through all of this to save a character he interacted with for a few chapters a decade ago.

That's why I've always thought that Marineford would have worked better if we got the ASL flashback right after the reveal that Ace was Roger's son.

What I don't understand is why Ain from Film Z is in 44th place. Why is she so popular all of a sudden? I even forgot she existed until shortly before the poll.
-
Given her tremendous popularity during the Marineford War arc and the years of inactivity following it, I actually find this position to be somewhat natural.

Hahahahhaha, can't agree more.
