I have the demo o my 3DS and..wow, its hard haha
If you have played the 2 final fantasy ones a lot the battle sequences (BMS) will really throw you off.

There is…if you have a Japanese 3DS. It hasn't been announced for localization yet.
Leaving the forums. If you want to stay in touch with me…uh, i guess ask me my skype in PM? I will leave in a few days.
Permanently?

I do have a Japanese one, don't worry :3
Yeah, permanently.

Is there a specific reason?
There is but i think we are derailing the thread. Thanks for the concern, tho :3

-
Garuda is Red for anyone wondering.
Given the localisation for this has already been 90% done, it has a half decent shot of being released in the west.

I admire Enix's effort (more like Level 5 though) into making this game. I'm talking about the original one, btw. This game feels like a big deal through and through, from the music to the graphics. But it saddens me that I could never get into this game to the extent that I should've. As in, I like it, I enjoy playing it. . .but I'm not sucked into it.
I think it's due to 1- the story not feeling epic enough (even though it's built to be epic as hell), and 2- (and this one is probably entirely my fault) I don't entirely get the fighting system. It looks like the most simplistic affaire and yet I'm at a lost as to why my magic attacks, you know, the ones that drain MP and look massive and stuff do less damage than attacks that cost 0 or very few MP. Even with Jessica, I often find myself using her double whip attack than her ubber massive supra explosion attacks.
From a guide I once saw, apparently there are like 4560 variables to take into account for every single attack used depending on the enemy and its weaknesses, so it's quite clear I never became the guy that could exploit this game at its limit. . .but it's still a factor that made me unable to enjoy it to its fullest.
Now, why am I ranting about this now of all times? The hell if I know. . .

With DQ8 the most important thing by far is buffs/debuffs and tension.

Pretty much the way I remember it.
-
Hrm. I literally just like two nights ago put in 8 to play it for the first time since release, and show it to Captain Usopp whose never played it before… but given that we only got maybe half an hour in, maybe I could wait for a DS release where I'll actually have time to play it?
But then, we're never getting 7 apparently... and I still need to beat 6... and buy 4... (I actually own 7 for the playstation but never got too far into it...)
Sigh, so much DQ.
It really is a shame that 9 was such a huge step down from 8. Everything a sequel shouldn't be.
-
8 has the best shot due to being the most popular one here…..as well as not being as long as 7.
-
I was just wondering about the possibility of DQ8 being released on the 3DS, haha. This would be a great opportunity to port the hero or Jessica in as character DLC for Smash Bros. Lord knows DQ deserves a representative and 8 was always one of the biggest hits in the series, though it was the only major one not to be released on a Nintendo console. I'll definitely consider picking this up, since my PS2 is busted.
-
I honestly think the DS/phone version of DQ5 might be the most emotionally gripping JRPG that I've played along with Mother 3, with an incredibly well-built world to boot. And the party chat feature made the cast so endearing and you just really cared about the main character and his friends and family, even his pet sabrecat and all the monsters you've recruited along the way. I really wish more games would try 'generational' stories.
Man, they just don't make them like that anymore.

I agree, that game is probably my favourite JRPG ever, the storytelling just blew me away, and the whole aging/time passing thing was absolutely great. I remember thinking I had finished the game at the end of act 2, and then
! you get turned to stone for years until you children find and rescue you man I love that game.

I've heard people say that the DQ series is too "generic" but DQ5 remains one of the most unique JRPGs even to this day.
! After all, how many fantasy games can you think of where the protagonist's son is the "destinied hero" rather than the protagonist himself? And that's just one of the many twists the game has.
I always pick Deborah as the protagonist's wife. Her dialogue is just hilarious - remember when she interrupts the priest during the wedding? Classic.

! Yeah I think that twist makes the game even more unique that it already is, it was something I hadn't seen coming, and I absolutely loved it
I played the game with all of the female characters, but yeah I think Deborah was the funniest ! Damn I want to play it again now haha

Flora is best wife because then your kids have blue hair
Only bugbear with DQV is how appalling the english localisation with all the regional accents was. I'm all for doing whatever it takes to keep the original flavour, but they were flat out adding things that never existed in the original. Bums me out a bit.
PS2 fan translated version of DQV is a lot better but sadly lacks deborah.
-
At least the accents were less grating than those in the remake of DQ4.
-
Oh god. At least the party chat didn't work, that was a blessing in disguise
-
Then I guess Debora is regular saiyan, Bianca is super saiyan, and Flora is Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.
-

They brought it back for the phone port.

The ONLY annoying accent is Sancho. I love the way Bianca talks.

Trailer was in today's direct:
Doesn't look quite as good as I was expecting, but that likely stems from the decision to move to fully onscreen encounters. Battles look faster too.
As well as the red and morries you can see a snatch of one of the new scenarios based on the hero and meda.

This thing, right?

@Purple:
This thing, right?
I assume so .

I really like the special edition stuff but I don't think I'm buying it again in English. For about the first 8 hours of the game it felt like a real drag.

Any word on if/when Dragon Quest XIII for 3DS is coming out in the US?

I'm assuming Square will announce 13 sometime in the distant future once they've announced and released
11 and 12.Though mistakes aside I don't think they've announced a set date I don't even think they've even officially announced a North American release despite the accidental leak from a few weeks ago.
-
Ack! I meant VIII. The remake of VIII.
-
^ Lol I know but I couldn't pass up the fun.
-
Well it would be NICE if they would announce a NA release. DQ is popular enough here.
-
I'd rather have the 7 remake, honestly. It looks like it got a fair graphic overhaul and tweaked the pacing problems… while 8 is mostly just the PS2 game I already own.
I want both, don't get me wrong... but I'd rather have 7.

New Monsters game

Here where. ?
-
Posted this in the Square Enix thread a bit earlier 'cause I didn't see that this thread exists.
According to Gematsu, Square Enix is going to announce the next main installment in the Dragon Quest series aka DQ XI on July 28. It's not yet known on which platforms it will be released but I'd put my money on PS4 and maybe even PS3.
-
So most people probably knew already but just wanted to drop in the confirmation that we're going to hear about DragonQuest 11 tomorrow.
People dug up the announcement logo. -
DQ11 will be ps4 & 3ds. NX too, but no news on what that'll look like.
PS4 fufills horii's wish of a "big screen" dq game while 3ds fills square's wish of money. Happy to be able to play it on the move myself. Hoping for n3ds enhancements if it's not n3ds exclusive (which hasn't been discussed, but the game was only played on a n3ds).
3DS also has a cool 3D/2D view that makes me really hope it gets localised. Battles take place in 2d or 3d depending on whether you use the dpad or joystick:
PS4 version looks pretty swish:
-
The 3ds stuff looks really cool
-
Was NX actually confirmed? The official press release states that it is under consideration. What did the guy say during the conference itself?
It's at 1:36:00 here, if someone could translate? -

It's at 1:36:00 here, if someone could translate?I feel like it's confirmed, but they can't say that because the NX hasn't actually been officially announced by Nintendo. If it was really only under consideration, I'm not sure why they'd bother mentioning that, especially for a system we know nothing about

I feel the same way, but still. I would love the know what the guy said, could learn us more.
