The girl that showed up in sewing felt crazy out of place. Like…Far too pretty? Or put together.

That's done by design. Jenji didn't think a show with a non-white main character would get greenlit, so she pitched the show has Piper's story, but intended to basically weed her out over time. Piper was mostly in the background this season, with the exclusion of the last few episodes; I mean once you remove Larry and her best friend, you loose a lot of Piper's story.
i wish someone would release an edited version of the first two seasons so you can rewatch it without larry

Which is ironic, past me. Because the whole show is based off a book by a white woman about the white woman… Mmm!
Also, Real world Larry and Piper are still married. With the former not super happy about his portrayal.

I haven't finished the season yet, but I feel this one is the weakest to be honest. It was really lacking a primary, which made the first two seasons pretty interesting. First being Piper adjusting to the reall crazy atmosphere of prison life, and the second having Vee as a main antagonist. This one felt very disjointed and all over the place with stories that are not very interesting despite the long buildup, character evolutions and appearances that are abrupt, and tensions thrown in for cheap shock value. I don't mean to critize the show as it is now, and I won't go into very deep detial to save myself form actually looking like a critic… but. I'm just not feeling this season all that much.
Might just finish the rest of the season to see where it goes. Last I left off is where that movie Tank Girl knockoff chick revealed something related to terrorists/conspiracy stuff to Alex and I'm like blaaaah. I don't know what it is... but this season actually made me hate Piper. Alex I didn't like before, but a full dose of Alex???? I find myself wishing they were written out of the show. Because seriously... there's nothing left.

The worst part of the Piper/Alex relationship is that Piper basically dragged Alex back to jail just to satisfy her selfish needs and Alex just forgives her through bouts of angry sex. Just everytime I see these two I want to claw my eyes out.

tbh my least favorite part of this season was the 'practice on an insecure girl' line like wtf. The way it's delivered, and then subsequently defended in the same conversation is set up like she's giving some sort of great wisdom. Really fucking awful
i feel like there are two VERY DISTINCT audiences for this show: those that watch for Piper n Alex, and those that watch for the rest of the prison inmates. I feel like the people who watch for piper and alex or whoever pretty much are in it for the lesbian sex stuff
this season didn't have a big climax like the last one but I feel like they set up a lot of stuff that will pay off next year. I like all the characters so it was still fun for me to watch them interact and see their backstories.
-
I'm only just finished the 4th episode but I'm liking it so far. I'm enjoying it. I watched four episodes in a row after I only sat down to watch one. I just like spending time with these characters. Well everyone except Piper and Alex.
I think it's weird the way Alex forgives her but I also think it's weird the way Piper just brushes off that Alex screwed her over in court this season. I feel like if these were real people they would be trying to kill each other. I don't see how you could have any type of meaningful relationship with someone you don't trust and they shouldn't trust each other. The hate fucking I understand only because they are stuck with each other but anything more than that just doesn't make sense.
I'm tempted to fast forward through all their scenes. Mighty tempted.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around that. I trust these writers when it comes to the inmates though so I'm hoping something later on explains it better. I know they know how that line sounded.
-
I just got the part where Piper comes up with a used panty emporium…what the fuck...
Is it just me or is this grossly mysoginistic and it's really weird coming from their moral center Piper and it's really weird how no one has called her out on her bullshit yet...

What episode was this? I think I missed it?

Never mind, they brought it up again. Holy fuck, that came from Laverne Cox's character? What the hell? She's one of the more likable characters on the show!

"Recruiting Men is easy, Women need you to establish trust, Men just need the promise of sex..." I hate you, I hate you so much Piper Chapman, so fucking much.

I'd be fine with that moral if she wasn't really teaching that to her own son, because as an individual viewpoint… it kinda shows that her morals aren't exactly perfect and there are people out there that do think like that.
Anyway. I finished the season. Still hold the opinion that this is the weakest season, but there were bits that I liked. Piper's path to a more antagonistic prison crime boss character is so amusing and utterly bad if you consider the the kind of bussiness she's fighting for. At this point, her existance is a joke to me. Like this.
Oh Piper. Plz.
The bits with Cindy actually made me cry a whole bunch. Not sure why either. Her character was always this big tough mountain that talks a whole lot before thinking. And her gags, despite how dumb she appears most the time makes me laugh. She was always my favorite personality, despite the fact her background wasn't shared much. But when she dropped that whole bomb with her family forcing this really shallow idea of hope on her, it was real painful for me to see her of all people break like that. Sure it's more a spiritual revelation, but even that had some weight and touched me personally : )
I liked the whole arc with Pousse and Soso once they were intertwined in the end. I never liked Soso for obvious reasons, but after that Norma cult shit… I'm kind of happy she got picked up by one of the more likable group of inmates(standards as this place goes). And Pousse.. she has always been a consistently great character. Boo and Dogett were a good combo towards the end. And the arc with Suzane's novel was probally the best parts of the season.
I just wished this season had a primary focus thing going for it tho. I mean, maybe you can count Liechfeild being under management by some shitty rich people counting as a main line, but that plot mostly involved the security guards dropping exposition bombs(mosty telling, not showing), some embarrassingly bad union thing and pretty much spending time with characters that aren't really the inmates. It was just... a real weak story.
Besides that, things could be better next season considering how it wrapped up... but I can't say I'm really exited for it.

@TLC:

minor spoilers for…episode 8? I think?
! When Sophia realizes that Michael is indeed the bad apple, her ex-wife tells her about how Michael was making out with a girl in his room and calls Sophia out on the find-an-insecure-girl thing. I think it's clear that the writers weren't trying to extol that logic. It's meant to be a shitty viewpoint/piece of advice.
But honestly I kind of like how basically every single character is a shade of gray with at least one or two questionable things about them. Pretty much no Mary Sues, and the only real Villain Sue was Vee. Even Pornstache has had moments of something resembling compassion, despite being despicable in every other way. So it's okay if Sophia's not a perfect beacon of humanity 100% of the time.
-
! Well I finished it. I was never really a big fan of this show and this season sure didn't convert me lol, easily the worst season. While the past two seasons where aimless and meandering, at least they had a central plot to tie things together, this just was nothing but a bunch of random story lines of mostly very uninteresting characters that didn't really go anywhere sprinkled with vague themes of faith so we can have a cheesy everyone washes their sins in a lake scene because it's poetic and for no other reason. And that's not even going into the awful Piper shit whose apparently a badass now though she pent half of the final episode acting like a twit. Give me a break. I'm happy it's over for another year. Now I can get back to finishing Mad Men.
-
! Really liked this season. The central plotline-thing of it was the takeover/future of the prison and how it would be run I think, and even if there isn't a defining villain or whatever I think the individual plotlines were really, really good, good enough not for it to matter. I also don't see why people are complaining about characters like Piper and Sophia doing unlikeable things, I don't think you're meant to like everything about every character. Sophia giving advice about using insecure girls for practice was poor advice, but she was trying to be the father to her son that she felt he wasn't getting by giving him that kind of advice (not sure how to word it better). I also don't think the viewers are meant to think Piper is being badass, but meant to think that Piper is trying to be badass, and doing a clumsy but funny job of it. Piper may have been really annoying during the season, but she was better than in the last two, particularly when she was with Alex and there were some really sweet moments.
! To TLC, regarding the washing sins in the lake thing, I honestly didn't notice that and im not sure if it was purposeful. I can see how it would be unbearably corny if it was the case, but I think the point of the scene was just for the prisoners to have fun, wrap up their relationships and feel free, I don't think there was meant to be some sort of poetic washing away their sins -
I enjoyed this season as well. I found it more or less equal to the previous ones. Prison is a small setting and this isn't even some maximum security prison for violent offender. It's not Oz. It's going to be about the characters and the problems they face should probably never reach Vee levels of brutality again. This felt closer to season one without the intro stuff going on. Replace Polly and Larry stuff with prison guard/management drama. I prefer the latter. This is the show that it will probably continue to be until it ends it's run which honestly should be soon. I feel like the setting doesn't really lend itself to infinite stories.
Anyway some things I liked.
Daya and her baby. I thought it was a really good plot even if I don't like Daya that much. To me the decision seems obvious but I'm looking at it as a matter of statistics and facts. No emotional attachment. I liked that they went into the emotional aspects of what it's like to raise a child, be a shitty parent, watch that child follow you. Is it making the same mistakes or is it hoping that things will be better even just a little and that little is worth it. Lots of money didn't make Pornstache a good person or a successful adult. Children are like redemption for a lot of people, too many I think as that's not fair to the child but what other reason is there to have a child if not to create something in your likeness that will live on after you and hopefully be more successful.
I like the way they handled Creepy Doughnut Guy. I've always liked Boo but I was impressed at how satisfying it was to watch her and Pennsatucky's relationship grow.
Also like I said before I enjoyed the new managment plot. Private prisoners to me are probably one of the worst creations of capitalism. Just disgusting in every way. I know it's cliche to have mean corporate overlords but I thought they showcased very well the real dangers that prisoners and the people who work there are in when they are in charge. Their incompetence and negligence is real and they will always be about making money more than anything else. So enjoyed that plot and I enjoyed spending time with Caputo and seeing where he was from. Is he doing the right thing because he thinks it's right or because he likes being the type of person who does the right thing. I think there's a difference but there really isn't when you're just looking at the person from the outside. So then it becomes is this basically the life he's been after and just feels shitty because no one else knows what he's been through or was he honestly trying to do the right thing and just kept getting shitted on.
I liked the Crazy Eyes fiction and everything that came from that and everything that it touched. Admiral Rodcocker. Great.
I didn't like Piper or her new girl or anything to do with their business. You had this
@Hiroy:At this point, her existance is a joke to me. Like this.
running through my mind any time she was on screen talking about panties.
Healy is probably the most unnerving person in the prison. I'm not sure if they try to make us feel bad for him or if they're just showing what he's like but he's awful to spend any time with.
Norma cult was ehhhhhh

Season 5 can't come soon enough!
-
Season 2 was fantastic, Season 3 was just meh…. let's see if Season 4 will be good.
-
Season 4 starts slow, but the second half is the best the show has ever been.
-
Better off finishing of the 3rd season.
-
! I'm devastated. She was my favorite character! WWWWWWHHHHYYY?! It was such a good season. But I actually teared up multiple times. Ugh.
-
New season was leaked early, I believe a week ago, because some hacker infiltrated a vendor's security. The hacker demanded Netflix pay them a ransom or they'd leak the season but Netflix gave them a middle finger and basically said go ahead, you're not getting a penny from us.
So season 5 is out there somewhere.
-
Well, that was one crazy season.
! Too bad the prison riot ended so badly. Could have been worse though. Like, the only casualty is Piscatelly but screw that guy. Also, the other guard who I'm not absolutely sure is dead but probably is.
! Overall, I feel like nothing was resolved and the season ended up where it started before the riot begun. Back to square one with nothing to show for it. Yeah, there were some twists here and there with some developments but ultimately what changed? As far as I can see probably a change of venue and some lost prison records.
! Most interesting development? Chang escapes prison and nobody notices, lol. -
! The fact that the whole riot wasn't resolved in five minutes let alone dragged out a whole season is ridiculous to me. How bereft of ideas are these people?
-

! It makes sense to me that it was ther entire season. It was a faulty prison and they didn't want a full on blood bath. Either side. So they stalemate.
I also liked that we got more flashbacks and development. And Piper had even less screen time. Always a plus.
! My main gripe was Caputo's ex being stuck in there and becoming an item with Boo plot…Very unnecessary.
! Also where the crap was the hot nurse all these seasons? Lol. -

lol Piper and Chapman. There's no way those 2 are splitting up.
Meant to say Alex and Piper.

It took me far too long to figure out the mistake lol.

Season 6 is out. The first episode is insane but I really liked it since Piper wasn't the focus. Always better when the show doesn't lol. I'm already on episode 12 of 13…And I just started it today. Oops.
Oh man...The season finale is cruel.

Yeah, i binge watched it yesterday, the full season. i really liked that they changed settings. and the new characters were a nice addition.
! I liked the two sisters and how twisted they were, the twist at the end made it even more better, It looked long time that one sister was the troubling one and the other was just nicer. but after the flashback with the third sister it showed they were both sick. and then that twst at the finale, damn. Frida was in her right mind to trow those sisters under the bus.
-

! Yeah the new additions were pretty good. Although Madison got on my nerves. But I think she was supposed to. So kudos to her actress lol.
! The episode where they showed them killing their younger sister was extremely fucked up. And then last episode suddenly showing that neither of them were the one that this legendary story happened to. Oh man. Messed up and tragic. In the end I liked that their plot was thrown off because of a bunch of hardened criminals were enjoying a game of kickball lol. I wonder what that prison is gonna be like now that the two top dogs are gone. Red, Daddy, Badison and Frieda?
! I felt so bad for Taystee, Blanca and Lorna in the end. I really still thought Lorna was crazy up towards the episode where she was actually pregnant. I did not expect the ICE aspect since this was based on a true story that happened a while back. Before Trump and stuff.
! I hope Caputo still fights for Taystee. I also actually enjoyed his side story. And I'm so glad Healy didn't come back. But it was interesting seeing these new guards and old guards. (I was cracking up when some called that one guy budget Chris Pratt cause I had always thought that about him.) The new guard that was very monotone and Ginger I kinda dug. They were very jaded but they had interesting quirks. All in all I liked this season more than some of the previous. -

Finished my binge today.
! Fuuuuuck. That finale was brutal. I was expecting it with the Taystee trial but ICE took me completely off guard even though there was the hint with Blanca not getting extra time. The juxtaposition between Piper and Taystee throughout the episode(or the season) was interesting and made for some nice between the lines social commentary with their situations taking such different turns "just because".
! Setting change to max was a nice change of pace. Loved the Frieda/Barb/Carol plot lines, especially the ending where they were both full of shit in the end. Think the only plot line I didn't care for in this season was Daya going junkie in the most boring way imaginable. Liked the new faces(especially Adeola lol) except for Badison who might just be the most annoying person in the entire show now besides Piper.
! With Caputo out for blood and Piper's talks of a memoir I have a feeling that the next season will have the 2 of them eventually linking up for a crime documentary thing(a la Making a Murder, etc) that could help exonerate the innocent riot girls as well as shine a brighter light on some of the more fucked up things going on in the prison. I mean, former warden and former prisoner who were both in the thick of it, and Luschek seems to be feeling really guilty plus we know max is swarming with phones now. -

They were very jaded but they had interesting quirks. All in all I liked this season more than some of the previous.! yeah madison is ment to be annoying, a bit like cercie, but with even less power. with the boss being gone, i see her aiming to be top dog, but i am not sure others will follow her, she seems to be a natural looser. so there will be conflict. with alex being in charge off trafficking there is a conflict, she might be the next contender to be boss in this block.
! With the two top dogs being gone, i actually dont see that much of a conflict arising. only the prison draft. (the fantasy game of the guards) there might be a story that can result in a riot again. But i would like the writers to stay away from that sort of situation. i fear they wont be able to keep it fresh. but i am always open to be suprised.
! I really liked frida, actually in all the seasons, this season it really showed her will to survive, even over people she had gotten close to. never top dog, always in the shadows.
! The new jailers were interesting, give some new things to them and interesting interactions. a total autist being a jailer, he seems to be the best out of them, together with the black girl and before i would have said the bald head jailer. but with the drugs that can go downhill very quickly.
