@Malintex_Terek:
Addendum: [major] character. However, while on discussion, look at the face of Usopp's mother; while I wouldn't exactly call her OP's principal source of comic relief, her design was, in spite of her condition, humourous.
Yeah well…he has to get that nose somehwere, and Yassop is apparently too cool for it.
Flashback? Do you mean the "lack-of-a-flashback" in Chapter 430, where every other Straw Hat had a few panels of "reflection" EXCEPT Usopp? Additionally, Usopp is no underdog; underdogs are expected to lose. While it's reasonable to expect Usopp to have trouble and appear to lose, he's a FREAKIN' MAIN CHARACTER. Losing is virtually OUT OF THE QUESTION, so for him to continually prove incapable of accomplishing something major by our standards of his own accord, not "helping" someone else, assigns him the title of "worst Straw Hat pirate", almost undeserving of recognition at all?
Wasn't Zoro's original flashback two or three pages? Besides, I'm saying that the short flashback got the point across. It doens't have to span over 3 chapters to be relevant.
And losing was not out of the question in this case. The difference between the Chuu and Jyabura fight was, that Jyabura's defeat wasn't as neccessary since Sanji could handle it. Meanwhile, in Arlong park in Sanji/Zoro's condition then Chuu would have been a threat to them. Usopp had to beat Chuu.
Everyone seems to be forgetting that saving Robin was the #1 goal of Enies Lobby, if Sanji could have then he would have gladly skipped Jyabura and saved Robin instead, but Jyabura was a threat to Usopp and Nami.
His dream is basically a more shallow version of Luffy's, and, like Luffy, he has his humourous quirks. However, since "development" is expected of him, while Luffy is expected to remain static throughout this story, watching him jump through the same loops over and over is really trying.
That's like saying that Zoro's dream is like Luffy's but with swords. :getlost:
Besides, "keep" jumping through hoops? Usopp wasn't an issue until the Water 7 arc started. However, when Usopp does accomplish his dream it's gonna be a hell of a lot cooler then what's going on at Enies Lobby.
I'm holding out for Usopp manning Pluton, but that's a long-shot as is.
Huh? Usopp usually mans the cannons, so this seems like a logical thing, unless you think that they might not get Pluton. If that's the case then, whatever, Usopp's the sniper so he's going to take care of all gun related issues. It should be obvious.
How many times prior to his loss to Jyabs has he gone through the same issue? That is, turn around full of confidence and beat his opponent?
1. Chuu.
2. Mr.3/Goldenweek
3. Mr.4/Merrychristmas
4. Satori
Jyabs was not one of those times. I wouldn't call Enies Lobby Usopp "more developed" than Skypiea Usopp since Enies Lobby Usopp is acting more more like a helpless loser than he did in East Blue against Kuro.
No, that's not my point at all. I'm saying that, Usopp may have realized his mistake here in Enies Lobby and will do better from now on. Unlike those other times, Usopp didn't need to beat Jyabs, Jyabs become secondary after Sanji took over the fight and left Usopp the chance to get Robin uninterrupted.
That would have been awesome, except it already happened and Usopp really didn't suffer "character retardation" until Enies Lobby. He was still "riding the wave" in through W7, where I think he flashed true guts by standing up to Luffy and giving him a decent battle.
Well yeah, but Usopp's been under some stress, which typically blocks the clear though process. Basically, I'm saying that Usopp may have developed in a way that will prevent the crap that's happened in Water 7 from ever happening again. And with this little "development," Usopp with have nothing holding him back and the chance to have regular fights like Sanji and Zoro do every arc.
As opposed to his contemporaries, who are a lot more than comic relief.
I don't see it, Usopp seems to be as much of a character as the rest of the SHs. Just cause Sanji or Zoro kick a lot of ass doesn't make them less of a character, it makes him at worst a "flawed character."
Hell, he was barely funny in this arc (except for Sogeking) so that calling him "just comic relief" is BS.
