Currently reading Beck. I'm nearing (I guess?) the end of the manga atm.
At the beginning I was LOVING it. Now, not so much. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy it and of course I wanna see it to the end. . .but, goddammit, for every powerful moment the author writes (and there are plenty of them), there's an equally lazy one. This manga goes through ALL the "misunderstandings" tropes, and I mean EVERY SINGLE trope in the book. You've seen em all in every shigh school manga, romantic manga, romantic movie, etc. . .
Add the no less nerve grating "A searches for B while B searches for A and they can't find each other no matter what" moments. I swear I almost threw my laptop against a wall with this fucking scene.
Also, this manga did NOT need a fucking gazillion different characters, half of em having the charisma of a baked potato and yet recieving TONS of panel time. Plus the entire side plot with that gansta final boss gets kinda boring, and yet it takes center stage during the final act of the manga. The author does try to build up tons of suspense but. . .nope, not feeling it. His first appearance was awesome, but now. . .I just lost interest in that boring assface.
I gotta say, I don't like romantic mangas, yet the romance between the lead and his love interest is among the best things of the manga. I've never seen myself so caught up in a romance of these characteristics. It might have something to do with the fact that she kicks ass big time. That must be it.
You should try reading Nodame Cantabile . It's far far better than Beck when it comes to slice of life / romance series . And the main female character is undoubtedly one of the best anime female character .

@Porcelainpot:
Haven't marathoned a series in a while, but I'm slowly reading through Hunter x Hunter, Mushishi, Lone Wolf and Cub and 20th Century Boys by getting them in book form.
I'm at volume 13 of Hunter x Hunter, basically with Pakunoda getting kidnapped. Fun series so far, the art isn't as bad as people say, the abilities and power system is a little vague but cool, overall enjoyable so far.
I'm at volume 6 of Mushishi, which isn't particularly far but I hear it's not a long series. I hasn't really lived up to the praise I heard so far, it's just the same episodic slightly creepy slightly interesting but unspectacular chapters. Artistically its sometimes quite nice, but nothing special. I'm guessing a lot of the appeal behind it is the reference to Japanese culture and folklore and the like. Considering how hard and expensive it is to buy volumes though, I don't know whether I want to continue
LWAC is great so far. I'm at the 6th omnibus (which are really cool btw), and it's just so good so far. Sure the episodic stuff gets a little tiresome, but every time I feel that way a REALLY good chapter comes along. Its meant to get better too, a lot to be excited about
20th Century Boys is pretty ugh so far. Only the 7th volume, but considering its meant to get far, far worse at the end of the series and already all that interests me is who Friend is, I can't feel to excited about it. Giant killer robots and Kung Fu Training at the top of a mountain with an ancient master kind of pulls you away from the reality of it a little too much.
I have nothing in mind of what I plan to read, maybe Billy Bat. I haven't read any new series in the last year or more (new as in started coming out during or shortly before that time), so I have no idea if some big new hit manga has taken the world by storm
Mushishi only appeals to the fans of slice of life genre . If you are not experienced in that genre or don't like slice of life then you won't like Mushishi .
