Mummy on the Orient Express ( assuming that is the actualm name), that woulda been a great Matt Smith/Tennant episode
Doctor Who

-
Why them specifically?
-
If u mean me, then i dunno, it just sounds like a Matt Smith/Tennant episode. I could swear i remember 11th Doctor at the end of the big bang, mentioning something about the Orient express in space and a Mummy or something…...that one had potential, too bad they never followed up on it...

Maybe they are. The Doctor is the Doctor.

I found a preair version of Deep Breath on Couch Tuner! (Should I not show the link?)
-
Thats probably the production leaks from a few weeks back. No, don't share it, anyone that wanted to see it already has.

Will do! Oh and Happy Birthday!

Of all the animated Doctor Who pitches I've seen, this is probably the best :)http://io9.com/what-if-doctor-who-became-a-saturday-morning-cartoon-1617914820
Also, more webisodes coming

And the title theme has changed, as I hear it. Spoilered if you consider knowing the new sequence spoiler-y.
! I can assume there's low quality versions on youtube, but I won't link 'em since they'll be down in minutes. But they're sorta based off of that one fan YouTube video:
Not sure how I feel about it being based off a fan video, but I'm sure I won't care about much longer.
! I joked about it, but apparently they actually are using Capaldi's eyes from the 50th as his face in the theme. Not sure how I feel about that either, since it seems kind of cheap, but understandable since his eyes are becoming more iconic than him. -
I've read about it, but I prefer to wait for the actual episode to hear it for the first time.
-
That's the way I feel about it. I've only read up on it, but I'd rather wait to see. Plus, low quality is… well, low quality. I like my viewings in hi-res, you unprivileged welps!
-
@Mr.:
Not sure how I feel about it being based off a fan video, but I'm sure I won't care about much longer.
Is it really a fan video if
1)he's an actual professional
2)it was a spec submission
3)he's credited for doing it in the final version? It's like saying Matt Smith is just a fan actor, even after he auditioned and got the job.
Besides. It's about time the thing incorporated some clocks into it.
-
It's no different than the fact that several of the TV show episodes were based off of pre-existing books and Big Finish radio dramas, IMO.

Oh come now, I didn't mean it like that (also, I don't have any dislike towards the video). I originally assumed it was just some teen fan who made the video and I didn't like the thought that the production of the show's intro. was getting influenced by a random individual with no experience.
It's no different than the fact that several of the TV show episodes were based off of pre-existing books and Big Finish radio dramas, IMO.
But there's a difference between professional writers and (what I originally assumed to be) fan-made videos, and I sure am not dissing on Big Finish or any of the novels.
It's more of a thing about talent and experience, and I know that pretty much everyone that works on the show now was a fan back in their days, and arguably that's why it's still doing well since they know what works and what doesn't (for the most part). BF is run by people who absolutely love the show and know how to make it professional. While there's fans out there who write… less than average fan fiction and whatnot, so I just wasn't all too comfortable with the idea of inexperienced people having control over the main source material.
But now that Robby cleared up the fact that the guy is a professional, I'm ok with it.
-
Did you see the original opening it was based on beforehand?
-
Yeah I posted it in the spoiler tag, although I can see how I made it confusing and sounded like I had the actual opening posted in there haha. Basically I only mention what the new opener is suppose to look like and added the fan video in there to get a good grasp on it, I haven't actually seen the official intro.
But yeah, turns out I just under appreciated it (the fan video). Cgi just isn't something I think about all too often (which is good in the sense that the best CGI is the stuff you don't notice being fake), so I often forget how much actual time, effort, and skill is put into cg related things. So after some thought and insight, it's actually pretty darn good, so I have no reason to feel uneasy.

I posted it on the previous page. :) I kind of want it to be real…
Also, Korean DW fans are funny.
-
It is truly a masterpiece. Shame, whole session was awkward as heck.
Also, rumors say that second episode finally leaked… And now I want to see it, but can't.
sorrow -
Don't its worse than the first episode leak with a hell of a lot missing. You've held on this long, just a couple of more weeks left.
What do you mean by the session being awkward?
-
I just have very slow internet in the "village". Otherwise, I would watch it in a heartbeat. DW spoilers never bothered me.
You didn't find it awkward? Language barrier killed it. You can see Peter being very uncomfortable and confused there.
Very rude host and k-pop band out of nowhere didn't help at all. It was cringefest. -
Yeah, I didn't watch any of it, but after what I read, I don't think I want to…but that's culture shock for you. :) I'm sure it'll be something they talk and laugh about later.
There is a short Q&A that came out of it though. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-08-09/eight-things-we-learnt-from-the-doctor-who-qa-in-seoul
As for the leaked episode, most people I know that saw the leak of Deep Breath and liked it even said not to bother with the second one, it's just TOO rough.

If I know Capaldi right, he will probably play it for about as long as Tennant did. Both are equally big fans of the show after all.

Which should be no surprise, I don't know why anyone would think he'd do one season. Eccleston is a strange case.
"You've redecorated. I don't like it."
The longest running gag in the show's history, I see.

The longest running gag in the show's history, I see.
It's weird, because that line was only uttered once in the Classic series (by the 2nd Doctor) and only recently have they decided to turn that into a running gag.
EDIT: Well, okay, the 2nd Doctor also said, "You've been doing the TARDIS up a bit," in The Three Doctors, but still.
-
They haven't used it THAT much in the new series either. Matt said it about Craig's house, I think.

I just saw confirmation that my local movie-theater will indeed be showing Deep Breath. Yay, no getting cheated out of seeing Doctor Who in theaters due to being in the wrong country this year!

Coleman's done as the companion: http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/doctor-whos-jenna-louise-coleman-quits-4061757
-
Not surprising. 2 years is a pretty average companion run. Hell, 3 years is a pretty standard Doctor run at this point.
“By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever.”
That's just a flat out falsehood, article. I mean "one of" doesn't flat out mean "the", granted… but for ammount of time she's at best average.
Not counting Sarah, Brigadier or Jo who appeared like 30 years later... Sarah and Tegan both ran for 4 years, Amy had the most stories at 34, and Jamie the most episodes at 117.
I dunno. I guess if you count the season 7 split as 2 years, and the episodes between Asylum and Christmas, and are only counting NuWho, then yes, she's up there.
-
Was she even there for 2-3 years? Half of 7, two specials, and 8… It's less than Rose.
Ok, as long as Peter doesn't leave (which rumors say he might…)
Bye, Jenna, it was good while it lasted. Even if your character was very unpleasant person. -
Was she even there for 2-3 years? Half of 7, two specials, and 8… It's less than Rose.
Ok, as long as Peter doesn't leave (which rumors say he _might…)More like 2/3 of 7, really. She was in 10 of the 14 episodes including the first one, and the christmas special.
And after season 8 she'll have done over 20 stories. And she was there for the first episode of 7 which was split over two years. So… she first showed up in September 2012. And heck, she was announced in March 2012, so... Counting filming time probably about 2 and a half years total for her, almost 3.
It just feels like very little right now because 7 was split in half, the anniversary was really far apart, and we haven't gotten any of 8 yet, so we haven't seen even half her run.
And Capaldi is already signed up for series 9._
-
Well, after season 8 she'll have done over 20 stories. And she was there for the first episode of 7… which was split over two years. Add in this episode and it'll have been 3 years in real time.
And Capaldi is already signed up for series 9.
I remember when they said Matt is confirmed for series 8, and both Jenna and Peter for series 9. I won't hold my breath till filming starts, just in case.
-
While the chances of this being true are very high, keep in mind that it's The Mirror reporting it and it hasn't been officially confirmed. It could at least be partly in error like many of the obvious errors made in the article.
Also, neither Peter nor Jenna were confirmed to be in season 9 yet officially. There have been strong hints that Peter will be in season 9, and I would be shocked if he wasn't.
-
There also were hints that he won't, and it will be Eccleston 2.0
Maybe they didn't like reaction after all.I want him to stay as long as he can though, he is astonishingly good.
Jenna, on the other hand… whatever she does, I'm fine with that. -
There also were hints that he won't, and it will be Eccleston 2.0

Moffat already blew his load on the companion character by making her the most important companion in the universe. What the heck sort of contrived scenario to drum up her importance is he gonna make up for the new one? The daughter of time or something cliche like that? Or maybe Moffat will try something new and give a companion who the Doctor is interested in for her bravery and ingenuity rather than what super special tease throughout the season and reveal at the very end mystery wrapped around her.
-
The doctor's daughter maybe?

Why does a new companion need to "one-up" the next? Just have a companion be a companion. And you really kind of misread Clara…she's not the most important person in the universe...she's just a normal person, the Doctor just thought there was some big strange mystery about her.
-
Timey wimey. If he'd grabbed her in normal order she'd have been completely ordinary girl up until the big moment.
The biggest shame with Clara really is her first two interpretations were both more interesting than the actual character ended up being. She was a bit of a spitfire in her first, and I thought they were going somewhere with the infitie hacker skills… but that hasn't come up again since that episode.
To be fair, her arc got a little sidelines by the anniversary and then Matt's leaving.. but she'll hav ea lot of time to be... just Clara... this season.
-
Yeah I think much of the second half of Season seven suffered from the fact that moffat originally wanted matt to stay for at least one more season. I think there was a better reveal of all the stuff planned but got cut short by matts decision.
-
More than that, I think he'd planned on still having Amy and Rory for another handful of episodes as well. So that arc had to be interrupted suddenly, which in turn ate into anything he would have been doing with River or Kovarian…
And then yeah, Time of the Doctor just screams "Well, I thought I had another 2 or 3 episodes at least to deal with these plot points over the course of a season, but oh well, here we go!" Heck, Time of the Doctor by itself felt like a crammed down 2 parter.
-
Yeah I love those end episodes quite a bit but many times I have thought in hindsight that they really crammed a lot into those episodes. And honestly although many people like The Angels Take Manhatten I thoought it was one of the worse episodes.
-
Statue of Liberty being an angel is a cool idea. Once. The second time they do it, it just blows the whole thing.
