Well the Moon changes the tides in our world, so I'm guessing they are using the same theory but for waterbending.

Yep, the Moon is the highest ruling power in Waterbending because it affects the oceans of the world. Hence Waterbenders are strongest when fighting during a full moon.
On the other end of the spectrum, it has been stated that the Sun is the highest power in Firebending, because of it's neverending source of heat and light. yet despite this it works in harmony with nature.
When you think about it, that may be why the comet gave the Fire Lord so much power. There's a lot of fire power in a comet.
-
Even though every episode is on YouTube. I really can't wait for the DVD.
Also, you know what would really cool? If this show had a manga. Not one of those crappy cine-mangas where they only put pictures in but I mean all new artwork, dialouge, and split at least one episode into two-three chapters?
-
When you think about it, that may be why the comet gave the Fire Lord so much power. There's a lot of fire power in a comet.
However, when you think about it, a comet is just a large piece of dust and ice moving at a rather high velocity. There really isn't much to do with fire, except that the head of the comet is where solar heating generates the tail, but is basically still a ball of dust, tar-like substance, and ice. Unless the Fire Lord plans on bringing in the comet to earth and using it as a wmd to wipe out someone like the avatar. In fact, this brings up an interesting point.
Dust = Earth?
Ice = Water
Massive heat caused by Friction = Fire
Velocity, acceleration, intertia, or something of the like = air (mainly wind, as the wind is basically the air moving at some pace)Something of the classical elements being proven by a burning piece of wood(Fire is what's coming out, water is the water vapor, earth is what's left over, and the air is the air that's coming out), the idea is that this power is equivalent to the power of the Avatar in aspects like those. But, as the tail spawns from the head, or nuclei, of a comet, the fire power of the comet could be how the Fire Lord could contain the power and use it to drive, while the forces we know exist, inertia, gravity, etc, stop the Avatar from driving it away or spliting it apart (in fact, splitting it may have even worse consequences). In fact, if you can't drive it away, it's like in Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask when the giants stop the moon, but it's engulfed in energy that it can't be stopped.
So my guess is either enhancement through astrology, or the overly scientific and probably wrong in many areas theory that the Fire Lord plans to use it as a WMD.
Edit: Hmm…. I wonder if the Comet has anything to do with Aang going into the Avatar State.

Any new episode today?

Any new episode today?
According to my Cable Box. No.
Instead, we're getting a Danny Phantom special.
Next week, we're getting the same thing.
After that, it's Kangaroo Jack.
Three weeks of no Avatar.
EDIT:Which sucks royally since Nick needs to keep the fans pleased.
Will Aang learn enough EarthBending by the end of the 20 episode run?
Will Zuko turn to the side of good now that Azula is the bad guy?
They aren't telling us enough in 9 episodes. We need the last 11 without any god damn breaks.
-
DP special?? I want to see it too!! Two specials? Wao! ^^
(checks my own link on the previous page) oh, yeah, no Aangie until 14 july…
Did you see the special?
EDIT: after checking the link, they say the next two episodes(The Library and The Desert) will be aired together as a special called The Fury of the Avatar -
I was reading on Wikipedia the way Avatar seasons work is that they start in Spring. Take a break in the Summer. Come back Fall and end early Winter.
The Fury of the Avatar special is a sort of a summer treat I guess.
According to the Wikipedia episode guide the one after FotA doesn't come on until September.
Then the season will hopefully end with a bang and the Book of Fire will be the best.
-
Well well well…here´s an strange(and curious) coincidence: Danny Phantom has started to be aired here in Spain this last friday, and its schedule is the same that Avatar had before(its last episode (20) was aired the thursday)...

There´s a video of the Avatar videogame…I didn´t like the video too much, in fact... -
Incredible two episodes they showed today.
The desert episode dragged on a little but the ending made up for it.
-
Man, the end was so sad…and awesome... but something keeps bugging me: when the sandbenders were tieing Appa, they didn´t say a word, but Toph said that the guy at the end told the sandbenders to muzzle Appa...
-
That was bothering me too. Maybe it was just the sound of the library being sunk?
But overall I thought it was awesome. Especially the part where Sokka was like drunk on the cactus and he was like "IT'S A GIANT MUSHROOM! Maybe it's friendly! FRIENDLY MUSHROOM!" and then he did like a wiggly chibi dance which reminded me oodly of some of Sanji's Mellorine dances. xD
-
I sadly missed it. Which I am now kicking myself for. But I figure the repeats will be on later, or I can always wait for someone to put it up on youtube.
-
Bringing this topic back because of the new movie. Gotta say it was amazing! Sokka was hilarious plus he was a p-i-m-p!
There was a lot of Jet/Zuko moments that were pretty cool. Sword techninques to steal was pretty cool. Also the slilent one is awesome! He is totally the mediator.
The best thing though was the battle of Asula/Aang. Blue fire blasts with air/water/earth. That was incredible! Plus giant fist!
Also Toph. Do not believe he likes SOkka a lot. She probably just got caught up in the moment, and she seemed pretty embarrassed.
Katara was totally cool, and was really hot in the beginning. Plus her Moses skills were really cool.Best lines were with Sokka
"Who is this guy? Is he taller than me?"
"How bout Boomerang Gang. It has aang in it. BoomerANG!"
Also were the Aang wannabes and the badass moment of Ty Lee when she knocked out all of the earth benders. Then
"Its a dust cloud. Poof!" lol thats it
Go AVATAR! -
Go team
VentureAvatar. -
I rented the first volume of Avatar from Blockbuster and it's pretty cool. I'll be renting the second volume next.
-
You do know there coming out with a boxset soon, right?
-
Man, loved the new episodes. Toph, Sokka, and Iroh are just some of the greatest characters ever. I'll be quoting stuff for days…
Plus, Azula vs Aang was pretty cool. Slurry explosion!
-
I'm glad they're showing SotFN again(now), I missed the last 15 minutes.
-
If you have Nick 2 that shows all the stuff that was on earlier, its on tonight 10-11 centrel time. The special was good. I have a pretty good idea of whats going on in season 2, even if I haven't watched every episode. Toff was badass man. She's so cool. I also love Zuko's new hair-do.
I also felt sad when I heard Zuko's uncle's voice. Man may he rest in peace.
-
Saw Tonight's episode.
Big Brother is Watching you.
There is no problem, says the
World GovernmentEarth Kingdom leaders.Anyways, looks like Jet's being brainwashed, his buddies will have to bust him out, they form some sort of relationship with Zuko and uncle.
And finally….
Totalitarianism.
-
In Soviet Earth Kingdom, car drives you!
Sorry, I had to say that. Momo got a fair amount of screentime this episode, or at least that's what I thought. And Jet and Zuko so need a rematch. Awesomeness!
I hope they find poor Appa soon…
-
Man, the ending to this episode was freaky.
Jet's now mindfucked and Aang and the rest are in total chaos.
I have feeling I know what's going to happen. The refugees are all Fire Benders in disguise and they all attack at a certain time bringing Ba Sing Se down to its knees.
-
It's like all those sci fi stories of totalitarian brainwashing societies put together.
I love this show.
-
Well, now we know why the Earth Kingdom has been having its ass handed to it by the Fire Nation. I wonder what their various generals would think about all this.
From this episode and Zuko Alone, it's pretty obvious that the world would have been much better off if Iroh had succeeded in taking Ba Sing Se before Benten died and had won the war for the Fire Nation.
-
I like this show but I stopped regularly watching at around the North Pole climax; could someone give me a heads up on what's going down, and at that, what is the fate of Mako's character Iroh (as in, who will voice him now)?

As far as Iroh goes, Mako recorded dialogue for the rest of the season apparently. I don't think a decision's been made beyond that yet.
As far as the plot goes:
! The Firelord dispatches his daughter Azula to kill Iroh and Zuko while capturing Aang. She collects two of her friends to aid her in this; one is quite handy with throwing knives while the other is a specialist at unarmed combat.
! Omashu (later renamed New Ozai) has fallen and Ba Sing Se is now the only Earth city free of the Fire Nation. Bumi advises Aang to find somebody else to teach him Earthbending; Bumi could escape any time that he wants, but now isn't the right time.
! A new Water Tribe is discovered in a swamp where the characters have visions of the past and the future. Based on his vision, Aang finds a young girl named Toph to teach him Earth Bending. She's rich and her parents don't want her to do it, but she runs away with Aang and company. Her parents hire two Earthbending masters to bring her back.
! Zuko takes off by himself for a while and we learn a bit about his past. Ozai suggested that his father Azulon revoke Iroh's right to the throne after Iroh's son Benten died during the Siege of Ba Sing Se, which is why Iroh ended his 600 day long siege of the city. This enrages Azulon, who threatens to show Ozai what it would be like to be in Iroh's position. Azula suggests to Zuko that Azulon will have him put to death, but his mother tells him that things will be alright. Azulon dies that very night and Zuko's mother disappears. As it just so happens, Azulon "reversed" his earlier position and named Ozai heir to the throne. Iroh is too broken-hearted to put up any resistence.
! Zuko returns to Iroh and begins to learn how to perfect his Firebending. Iroh is a Master of Firebending in no small part because of his understanding of other types of bending. Waterbending in particular.
! I think I missed an episode in here somewhere.
! The quartet arrives in a desert where Appa has been kidnapped by Sandbenders. The group discovers that a solar eclipse is approaching which will render the Fire Nation defenseless. Iroh contacts a special organization that offers him and Zuko aid, the symbol of which is the Lotus game piece that he spent an entire episode looking for during the previous season; the two head for Ba Sing Se and enter the city as refugees.
! Aang, Katara, and Sokka arrive at the Outer Wall to discover a giant Fire Nation drill; Aang and Company manage to destroy the drill despite Azula's attempts to defend it. It manages to breach the wall first, but the Earth Kingdom should be able to repair that without too much damage.
! They arrive in Ba Sing Se to find out that the King is apparently nuts (he holds high society parties to entertain his pet bear) and the city is really under the control of his Cultural Minister, who feels that the war is irrelevant. Zuko and Iroh have raised the suspicions of Jet, who attempts to prove that they are firebenders. During his sword fight with Zuko, Jet takes an impulsive swing at a member of the Dai Lee cultural guard (who may be Metalbenders, judging by their ability to control their metal gloves) and is taken to jail.
! Discussing the war is forbidden and those who violate that law, like Jet, are brainwashed into thinking everything is alright. -
Wait, so
! Outside the "classical" bending classes, which I assume are the most powerful, there are a sort of "derivative" sects like Metalbenders (Fire?/Earth), Sandbenders (Earth), and Lightningbenders (Air)?
-
Wait, so
! Outside the "classical" bending classes, which I assume are the most powerful, there are a sort of "derivative" sects like Metalbenders (Fire?/Earth), Sandbenders (Earth), and Lightningbenders (Air)?
Yeah…
! quite a few actually.
! Sandbending is a definite type of Earthbending and is referred to by that name.
! Metalbending is a new one on me; it's been repeatedly stated that Earthbenders cannot work metal (as recently as the last episode in fact, though that was said by a War Minister of the Fire Nation who might not be an authority on the subject), but the Dai Lee, who are basically the Earth Kingdom Royal Guard, can shoot their gloves across a room to capture somebody and seem to be able to almost instantly shackle someone with chains. The gloves and chains might be made of stone, but they really look like they're made of metal. There's no hint of firebending involved. It might be the highest or rarest form of Earth bending. That or they just use metals with high numbers of impurities in them. That or it's just Earthbending and I was fooled by the appearance of the gloves. It hasn't been named as Metalbending.
! At least one member of the Swamp Water Tribe can do Plantbending by manipulating the water inside of a plant.
! Bumi was able to Bend crystals in his first appearance, which might be considered Crystalbending.
! The only people that we've seen do "Lightningbending" are Iroh and Azula, but there may be more. Azula had two old women watching her practice that ability and they critique her skill, which would suggest that they are capable of it as well. Lightningbending might just be a particularly advanced Firebending attack rather than a seperate sect as both of the people actually shown to be practitioners of it are extremely high level Firebenders (Ozai is probably the only Firebender stronger than Iroh, provided that he's actually stronger than him). If nothing else, it sounds somewhat clumsy as a name.
! Iroh is capable of not only creating Lightning, but of channeling it through him as well, which, if I recall correct, stems from his knowledge of Waterbending. He started teaching Zuko this skill, but it's questionable as to how successful he could be doing it as it requires a totally relaxed spirit.
! During his fight with Jet, Zuko might have unintentionally been generating small amounts of lightning through his sword, though not enough to draw the attention of the crowd. -
The gloves were probably obsidian. I love the fact they were black. And in terms of Metalbending, the only reference I've seen of it was Aang's passing remark/joke when handling the drill. I don't think he meant there were in fact metal benders; just that he wishes he were one to make his job a lot easier. If there were metal benders, he should be able to do it himself. He is the Avatar after all.
In acient cultures, lightning was considered a type of fire, so hence the lightning bending. I'd like to think Azula's blue firebending is plasma.
-
Might I mention that the companion Azula has that is pretty good in unarmed combat attacks people at pressure points to stop their ability to bend.
by the way, that woman that guided them around during the episode, she reminded me of Orochimaru when he was under the disguise of that grass nin during the forest of death.
-
I'm pretty sure those gloves were just black rock. But damn they looked cool.
Tai Lee's ability kinda reminds me of Neji and Hinata's abilities. The whole poking to shut off powers thing. I hope she hets more screentime, she's pretty awesome.
I wonder how Jet is gonna be after this whole incident?
-
Jet will deny any war. His compatriots will understand that something's going on, something about Zuko and Iroh, something.
But yeah. Tai Lee and co. need more screen time.
-

I think the fact that Azula's fire is blue is just an indication of how hot it is. Blue fire is waaaaaaaay hotter than red fire.
And Sand, Plant, and Lightning-bending are just Earth, Water, and Fire bending on different levels. Iroh described lightning as the highest-form of fire bending.
-
**This episode was great, but now I just can't wait for the next episode.
It seems that the other "level" of each bending so far is:
Air: unknown/N-A
Water: Plants
Fire: Lighting
Earth: Crystal/Ruby etc & possibly metal
It would be cool to see some metal-bending as another level of earth-bending. My only problem is that Boonie didn't use any metal-bending when he was trapped in his little coffin. Of course, this can easily be exused by saying that normal earth-bending is much easier and/or that he couldn't do it inn his current position. Or there could be that he simply wasn't skilled enough, but I highly doubt that.**
-
His name's boomie. Hehe….
Anyways, I think it was just because he used as little of his earthbending as possible while in Neutral Jing.
-
@yokaiforte:

**I would disagree, but google fight ins't working.
You win this round. **
Anyways, I think it was just because he used as little of his earthbending as possible while in Neutral Jing.
Another good idea.
-
Hmm… I think I saw a Tokyopop animanga of Avatar that had Bumi; though I might be confusing that with something else. At any rate, it's definitely not Boonie.
The gloves are stone after all; I was just fooled by how much it looked like the steel commonly seen in Fire Nation vessels.
You know, I kept thinking that the Cultural Minister's voice sounded familiar; it should as he's played by Clancy Brown AKA Lex Luthor from the DCAU. If I'm not mistaken, the university student that they spoke to was voiced by Scott Menville or Robin from Teen Titans.
-
Hell Yeah! That's what I was thinking. He's definitely Lex Luthor.
-
That is most definitely Scott McNeil's voice. I was fangirling all over the living room when I realized it.
His voice sounds like either Lex Luthor or a really sinister Silverbolt (Beast Wars).
-
Scott McNeil? Never would've thought of that. But that's still awesome.
-
Are we sure it's scot mcneial. Doesn't he live in texas? Unless he moved to orlando or wherever its recorded, but if he did he sure moved a lot in the past year and half or whatever. If avatar is recorded in New york (maybe its in LA), then Scot mcneil probably doesnt have a chance of being renji from bleach unless he decides to move again ;-;.
-
Wait, I don't recall McNeil doing Lex Luthor.
-
Hmm… IMDb doesn't seem to have the voice actor for Long Feng listed. I've heard Clancy Brown (which is really who it sounded like to me) and now Scott McNeil.
Wikipedia says Clancy Brown though.
Wait, The Boulder was Mick Foley? That's pretty awesome.
-
"…holding a party for his pet bear."
"You mean platypus-bear."
"No, it just says 'bear.'"
"Skunk-bear?"
"No, just 'bear.'"
"This city is weird!"Priceless.

-
@yokaiforte:
Wait, I don't recall McNeil doing Lex Luthor.
It could be either. Lex Luthor wasn't the first thing that popped into my head, it was the sinister Silverbolt.
I don't know where McNeil lives. But he's flown all over the place, if I recall, so you never know.
Who's Clancy Brown?
-
The guy who does Lex Luthor on Justice League.
