Glad to see Galaxy 9000 remembered.
Outstanding work in the Anime section.
Yeah, agreed. Of course the anime section doesn't get as much attention, but he is really extremely helpful when it comes to everything anime.

Aren't those two categories closed yet?
No, because I'm busy translating stuff as my homework and it's killing me. Never take a translating job, anyone, it's a pain in the rear.

And here I am, thinking about learning Japanese these days, imagining how fun it will be to translate stuff~
Oh, it's pretty fun when you get to do it on your own terms and out of sheer interest. It's not fun when there's a deadline and when the topic is overly technical and dull as a rusty knife.

An accurate analogy for living.

From which language to which one?
Finnish to English, but I don't see how the languages in question would make a huge difference. Especially on a university/business level where you translate what you get for either study credits or for hard cash.

For example to translate from Georgian to English would be lot harder, because we have lot more freedom in sentences and lot more complicated ones. And from English to Georgian would be easier imo.
So i think you said something about Finnish earlier, which made me think that Finnish is also like that. So you must be having hard time.
…
By the way, what are the other admins doing? :ninja:
I don't know, but they're not here, are they? :I
Oops, Silver is, And there is one more nomination left for best debater it seems.
Dry, don't cause yourself problems worrying about the awards. You're doing us a kindness here by helping out, it's not a strict obligation, so if you have stuff you really need to get done, focus on that first :) we can wait a little longer.

I took Translation Theory as part of my German degree and yeah, translations ranged from the occasionally interesting (like translating One Piece would be) to translating technical manuals for microwaves to translating business press releases and the like. You don't generally get much leeway either in regards to the translation so it's not even as if you get to make stuff up. I'm not sure how similar your translation exercises would be, but yeah…
Well, I just translated a two-page flyer that attempted to explain how, through student organization activity and by getting elected into the Student Board, you can have a say in the organizational administration of the entire university and what kinds of possibilities individual students have for affecting various different little things within the organization. Chock full of very technical terminology for each and every administrative organ, and written from beginning to end in jarring bureaucratic jargon. So yeah. I'm sure you can imagine. :P
And no, I would never. As much as I love you guys, I know my obligations and am diligent enough to place the actual study-related obligations before AP most of the time. Don't worry about me~
Also, as for the currently open categories, I'll let them stay open for a couple of hours more. They're not quite full yet, so I don't see why we should hurry about closing them.

Even reading what it is about was so boring, I really feel sorry for you :sad:
Welcome to Uni level translation. Enjoy your stay. :P
"uni" "enjoy"
yeah right
You will learn to love it soon enough
Maybe
I got nominated…twice. I wasn't expecting that...
@Print:
Uni > High School, at least.
In high-school, you pull all-nighters only to party.
In university, you pull all-nighters to study because you pulled too many all-nighters to party.
I don't drink, I don't party. But I don't really study that much either and I still get 4s and 5s (Bs and As). So eh, could be better, could be worse.
Uni is generally enjoyable, actually, but the most boring stuff is way more boring than it ever was on earlier levels.
imo if your classmates are good and social situation in school, high school is better. Because you can skip studying there, it won't affect that much unless you fail exams, but in uni you have more responsibility. Or at least i think so.

Maybe in your country.
At least the way I did high school, it was just straight classes with some lunch inbetween for the whole day. High school was just a stepping stone to get to college, where I actually feel I worked less.
I mean I still worked hard being premed, but the day definitely felt less packed (at least until I started doing lab work).
@Toraish:
Lol, no way.
I read you liked when you were nominated as friendliest in one of previous AP awards :ninja:
Somebody please nominate Wagomu as funniest member
@Purple:
Maybe in your country.
I forgot that aspect
@Toraish:
Friendliest: MetaMario
sniff Two years in a row…..?
Aww, thank you, man. I'm touched. :D

Similar over here too. Some folk I know showed up to about one lecture a week if that and managed to sweet talk their way out of it, even though it hurt their grades. I had a lot of free time even with my courses, which means I could wander into the local forests or have lazy afternoons with my partner of the time watching anime.
Though that free time disappeared around essays and exams. One Bonfire Night in my Final Year there were loads of people outside setting fireworks off with glee, and I was stuck at my desk reading, of all things, Albert Speer's autobiography and Mein Kampf because I was writing about Nazi architecture.

You would be my nominee aswell for general friendliest one
My two I chose are a bit more personal this time but you do deserve the friendlest nomination

Incidentally, Albert Speer's autobiography and Mein Kampf make great bonfire starter material :ninja:
Speaking of architecture
Don't study architecture

That's wonderful to hear, mette. But much like last year, I'll be happy even if I don't win. The nomination by itself is reward enough. :happy:

See, this is the reason why you don't win more awards.
You need to shove more friendliness down our throats
Since when I was the friendliest?
Well, you are one of the people who always cheer others up with their presence so you would well deserve the title on your own merits, Meta. The competition is a different matter, of course, but you definitely fit the bill. :)
Also, would someone please nominate Print for Funniest? I really want to, but I kind of want to nominate Crys too.
@metteminne:

Yeah, same here. I know it's all about nominations, but it's time you win this one!

I tended to study it a few times as part of the History side of my degree. One book I checked out on Romantic architecture in Early 19th Century Germany had last been checked out in 1961, and had a few notes in it that felt themselves like history to me XD

You deserve much. I'm glad that you've been nominated :)
Ditto Smiley, actually. I can no longer look at Wooper without thinking of him.
Much obliged, noob. tips hat

You guys, stop making me happy!
This may come across as a little odd, but I really love how many people-who-are-nominations-in-one-category nominate people in that same category. Like how at least half of the Best New Member nominations were from new members. That, to me, suggests a group mindset and a strong sense of community and is worth celebrating in its own right :)
You guys are the new generation , while the old one passes the torch

We're only doing that because we're confident that whomever we're nominating can't beat us :ninja:

Hey, no giving away trade secrets :ninja:
By that logic, I'd need to nominate someone for Funniest. The fact that only one slot remains reveals my dilemma. :unsure:
