I just started reading this series, and it is very interesting. Anyone else read it? The Whole Immortal thing is kinda wierd but the fights are cool and the characters in compeling.

I like the art, the characters and the settings but sometimes I get the feeling of story not moving at all, or not even having any story at all. The prison arc doesn't make it any better. I really like Ohikkoshi though and Samura is staring a new series on Erotic F, I'm looking forward to get my hands on it someday :P (I hope it won't be too long, not more than few volumes).

It's a fun series. Anotsu's one of my favorite manga characters ever. I love his whole personality.
-
I enjoy the series a lot as well, though I've only read a few tanks of it. Really nice art and cool action scenes… the immortal thing is somewhat weird, but it's fun.
-
Gawd, I love this manga… The story is a little plodding, but i'm glad I'm not at the dreaded prison arc yet (Yes, I'm a naughty girl, I read ahead on the net.... I'll still buy the volumes though! I promise!) but I've preorderd volume fourteen from amazon and I can't wait to read it. I think the art is beautiful and the character designs very complex indeed. The 'immortal' thing is weird, but i guess it is partly what seperates it from things like Lone wolf and cub.
As favourite characters go, Manji, Magatsu and Giichi... and i both like and truly despise Kuroi Sabato... You see, I use his quotes on my sigs, but I think he's one sick son of a... Gun... Ahe, yeah.
Well, the manga itself is one of my favs and I can't wait to read Ohikkoshi... It looks great has dowloaded scans of it

I can't believe that this hasn't been discussed in over 8 years….
Well, I found this manga to be amazing. The fact that 90% of he characters were villains made me a little skeptical, but each character was unique and unlike one another. The most amazing thing is that this manga took 22 years to complete, and at no point did I feel like things were being dragged out. The art practically stayed the exact same throughout (spectacular BTW).
One of the best samurai manga out their. Up their with Vagabond and Lone Wolf.
-
i liked it too…read first 130 something chapters..art was great...someday i will pick it up again...
-
I stopped buying the tankoubon around vol18, I may finish it one day.
I personally was rather disappointed at the ending, and that's one reason for the lack of motivation to complete the set.BTW, I love the author's slice of life stuff way more than I do Mugenin.
His shorts are great, I wish he'd expand some of those to actual series. -
Yeah, Mugen no Juunin did lost spark around the last chapters, but at least this one ended with some dignity unlike some other long run series… And I'm not looking at anyone 'coughberserkcough'
Overall one of my lifetime favourites.
-
I don't get you people at all. The ending was really strong and tied the plot threads of Rin and Anotsu in a spectacular way.
Makie never forget

Actually, it has. Blade of the Immortal had more than a few threads over the years, and more than a few offtopic discussions in other threads. You just found the oldest one of those.

By the way, have you been reading his newest Ikki series, Harukaze no Snegurochka? I couldn't find any public raws since the second chapter.

Great series. I think I loved it more while I read it than now, a couple of months later, where I'm not left with that strong an impression.
I'm left with some incredible fights, beautiful art and a really intriguing relationship between Rin and the bad guy (was that Anotsu?), although it made me wonder if that portrayal of the bad guy in a quite glorified, human way, was his initial intentions, considering how "lol i'm da evulzezt evaaaah!" his first appearance is. Kill the father, rape the mother. Bang in yo face.
Mugen development was also super weird, and I don't know if in the good way.
And some of the guro was hard to stomach. Specially when that psycko that tortured and raped women in extremely graphic manners made his stuff. Sickening little shit. Or the last fight with Makie. Too much for my tastes.

True, Anotsu changed a lot fom his original appearance. But seeing how it took him more than twenty years to go where he ended up, I'd say it was for the best. More complex, more human character is always fascinating to behold compared to a more static and unambiguous villain. Nonetheless, he lived and died a huge asshole, so there is that.

You mean Manji? Despite being the title character I'd say he stopped being the main character as soon as Samura realized he can't make him that much more interesting, so considering what he had to work with, he was fine. And his ending was really nice, with ages changing and him living still.
Now that I see this two paragraphs together, its interesting to note how Samura did better with Anotsu than with Manji despite having similar problems with them in the beginning.

Makie chopped of Giichi's hand, bit off the tip of her tongue, got filled with lead and then annihilated six people with her dying breath. You found that too much? And here I thought Dorohedoro made you stronger, man. You probably shouldn't check out Samura's guro artbook, Brute Love.

It's just that the arc where Rin and Anotsu travel together and stuff was. . .touching? And it's like, they even see each other a couple of times more, and there's like no hate at all in there. That was pretty fascinating.
The ending was harsh, to be honest. Untill you remember what he did to her parents. Hence, I'm left wondering why he made him such a dick only to make him a "human" later. But no biggie. It was worth it.

Yeah, Manji. I somewhat liked him (him fighting with a giant backwards arm was so grotesque yet so hilarious. . .), but he kinda lost momentum. Also, the experiment arc was so weird… First time I've seen a main character basically reduced to a guinea pig for an entire arc.

It was her fight with Giichi. Makie is hardcore, but that short fight was like, every single move was gory. I don't know, it left a huge impression on me.
And the saw-sword asshole was disgusting as hell. Dorohedoro didn't prepare me for that. Doro's violence is so over the top that it's kinda comical in its own way. Here, the author goes too on detail at times. . .
And I'm not gonna touch a guro artbook if I can avoid it. I want to sleep peacefully, thank you!

As much as I hated Shira, I think he was probably the best character (again I don't like him). I loved how it ended too.
I'm also glad that Rin never became super powerful, but was weak until the very end.
And yes Makie was incredible.….Ah I forgot how great of a character Habaki was....
I'd say my favorites were Giichi, Makie, Mugen, and Ozuahan.

Ohikkoshi was quite a fun book.
By the way, have you been reading his newest Ikki series, Harukaze no Snegurochka? I couldn't find any public raws since the second chapter.I read Samura's work in tanks mostly, because fuck, Erotics F and Nemesis are way too niche magazines for me to actually read lol
And Snegurochka isn't out in tanks yet. I did read the first two volumes of Beagerta, also currently running. -
Also loved the ending, can´t agree with the criticism but to each his own

That's the thing though he only appeared to be like that in the beginning but the author added depth to his character and made him more human like by exploring his character and giving reasons for who he is through out the series and making him more sympathetic then he first appeared . If the author kept him as a "dick" then he would be really one-dimensional and shallow character which is obviously not the case here.
The characters are the best part about this series imo . I loved how author added depth to majority of his characters and made them appear very human like and really relate-able to the point where i didn't know who to cheer for ( except from Majin character since i found him extremely blank and typical for the most part ) and it wasn't a typical good vs evil type because every single side had solid reasons for doing what they were doing which was really realistic and awesome . The fights and art however were really mediocre for me because i literally couldn't follow majority of the fights nor i am a big fan of fights.
