Ok, but that's the Boss of the evil guys, come on. Plus, this is only a portion of his abilties and we knew he was one of the hungriest character of the entire series (maybe the hungriest).
Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!

Midora truly deserves to be called a voracious beast with an insatiable appetite, and having his tongue as his trademark weapon is very fitting. It only makes you want learn more about him and his strange composition.
"All things are food". Even soil and the appetite-based techniques are food to Midora.
-
You know what I really like in this Manga? That the Mangaka is not busy with letting everyone have 'cool-looking' abilities. Like sharingan or shit like that. He isn't scared to let his characters have scary or disgusting abilities. Which turns out to be totally cool btw.
It almost makes Toriko himself kind of boring.
-
@Area: If Anyo is actually a prince, and the first son, then he´d definitely have his parents and people focused on him, since he would be the next one in line for the throne.
I like Midora´s ability, and it´s really fitting to him. And I do love creepy powers/abilities.
yWe already know Alfaro´s tho. I do wonder if it´s his only way of fighting. Wish next chapter we get to see them fight.
-
Has any character been given stomach acid abilities or used stomach acid as their weapon? If not, it should be one of Midora's abilities because of his voracious appetite and all. Just saying
-
The way I understand it, it's basically a manipulation of laws of probability - on a physics scale of atomic level.
In other words, what was originally thought as the Scarlet Witch's ability. Pretty freakin' OP.A set certain amount of minority of atoms always behave in a way different from the majority.
I believe the theory is, if you can manipulate that probability to turn the behaviors of the minority atoms into the law, you can cause unlikely situations - such as floating in air.Ok, here's my take on Ichiryuu's power: He does indeed use quantum probability manipulation. However, unlike what Aohige says, based on how it's explained I DON'T think he's increasing the number of particles that act abnormally to do things. Rather, he can control to a large degree(which probably decreases with distance and such) the small minority of particles that do act strangely into acting in a specific nonstandard way. So basically he takes the vast amount of equal probability configurations and then chooses which one he wants to be a reality, rather than allowing chance to decide it normally. So he can take all the 1/100000000000000000 probabilities and choose for only a small few to come into existence. So in order to float, he makes it so that the weird particles all gathered at the bottom of his feet, and that they suspend themselves. This alone would be enough to float, since the rest of the molecules would be kept up by basic electrostatic interactions between molecules (the same reason we don't fall through the floor- gravity is far weaker on a small scale than electric field interactions).
I think it's brilliant. It actually succeeds in making a quantum manipulation ability, that while still incredibly powerful, could conceivably be beaten (as opposed to what Aohige described which would essentially allow you to do anything you wanted and should make you completely and utterly invincible). While he can produce drastic effects with those small amount of abnormal particles, he still has a lot of limits. Like, he can't heal a large wound or completely stop one from bleeding with this power because there simply aren't enough abnormal particles to facilitate that type of thing. But he can still do a lot of cool things, as well as interfere with opponent's abilities

Does Grin count? He barfed the BB corn to savor it again. Maybe he uses it in combat too

Alternative translation of the chapter.

Let’s see if I understood what happened in the last chapter: Ichiryuu, with the “minority” of his atoms, is able to have some sort of influence on the “minority” of the entire surrounding area. Thus he thinks he’s coming to get some influence on Midora’s movements too (Ichiryuu:”Midora…the minority inside you is starting to gain some influence little by little as well” and then Ichiryu:”You’re slipping. I don’t even have to dodge anymore”). And now we’re going to expect Ichiryuu to take control of the entire “world”, Midora included, isn’t it right?
So Ichiryuu seems to have a real upper hand. And now I want to see how Midora has won (I hope he won by a superior power, not for something like cheating…please Shima, don’t do that, no one in Bishokukai has been vile till now). I hope he’s mocking his older “brother”. -
I know I didn't read any of Hungry Joker, but can we vote Ichiryuu's power as the worst attempted science in manga this year?

Is the square root law a thing? It doesn't sound like an actual thing…
Not sure if the square root part is actually right, but quantum physics DOES indicate that we can only know what a particle is likely to do, and that particles will occasionally act in ways that are incredibly unlikely and go against normal physics. When you get on a quantum level, shit gets really, really weird and things stop acting in ways that make sense. We don't notice this on a macro scale because there are so many particles that it would be incredibly improbable for things to behave in manners we deem strange. So for instance, it's technically possible, though incredibly, incredibly unlikely, that you might put your hand on a wall and end up going through it if the arrangement of particles is absolutely perfect. As I said in my explanation, I assume what Ichiryuu does with his power is gain control over equal probability states (of which there are vastly many) which could have dramatic effects. I'd assume his minority world thing is essentially him extending the reach of these powers until he has this sort of control over a zone of space

And basically, he just has the ability to control what the minority of atoms that follow unusual behavior do (as in, pick a specific unusual behavior) within that space

Yes, yes, I agree. But the minority he could control includes Midora's minority too. So he could control Midora.

Well yes, because I assume Midora is inside his probability manipulation zone

oh yeah… forgot about that thing because of the crazy capture levels in the current arcs. But I would like to see Shima have a character manipulate the pH scale as their power/abilty
-
Oh man. Ichiryuu's ability is fucking hax.
-
Ichiryuu…
I think more precisely, "Anything can happen for no reason, but astronomically unlikely" if I understand it correctly.
And Ichiryuu takes that "unlikely" and makes it "…but it happens anyways!"Like I said, I think the closest concept to this super power was the original Scarlet Witch powers.
(Until fucking MAGIC! Happened to it)EDIT: Hmm, I like your concept of simply using the minority as is, but manupilate where they happen, Aaron.
But I figure since the percentage of these decrease exponentially as the volume of atoms increase, making the minority even more minor, it's hard to imagine there being enough "irrational" atoms to make a difference in a human body. -
Well yes, because I assume Midora is inside his probability manipulation zone
I think the same. But moreover I assume Ichiryuu's Minority World is larger (maybe really larger) than we think.
Anyway, this is the excellent translation by Goggle nice joy-tool:
! Minority world says world Midora that minority to hear the width in one order before the old man like Na per 贵様 take a look at pairs who stray. We're not free of the rogue who already hate one dragon …...
I dodge in Mi Dora last minute that was dark in the room attack grip chopsticks chopsticks artillery.
One dragon to injection 炮连 chopsticks chopsticks in turbulence. Midora to nearly Kurau. You do not come into contact with one dragon to attack a mountain tongs do not even have dynamic an inch.
One dragon puppet to a particle of ground, yet cells in the Midora far as manipulating. Other organs no longer taken up the oxygen also left the function of the lung Midora.
I say Chi win one of the dragon and was waiting in the decision 时点 that the skill is in Motion.
Two people who seems to live 500 years or more.

And (space voracious) turn Hungry space of Midora

In the last two pages the ground is contorting and bending over, and there's a thick black membrane in the background.

Is Ichiryuu causing Midora to mess up by controlling his minority atoms? Or does Midora have such little control over his minority atoms that they are causing him to mess up?
-
Is Ichiryuu causing Midora to mess up by controlling his minority atoms?
Yes, this is what I assume I understood about Ichiryuu's power. Now I'm waiting for Midora's counterattack.
I found this summary for the new chapter
! Midora and Ichiryuu are more than 500 years old.
Basically, Ichiryuu is able to manipulate the particles of the ground and even the particles of Midora's body that for some reason is not able anymore to breathe. seems that all the organs of his body has stopped to work.
For that reason, Midora is forced to open a big hole in his chest in order to breathe in someway. -
I know I didn't read any of Hungry Joker, but can we vote Ichiryuu's power as the worst attempted science in manga this year?
Why would you think so? Explanations are off and quantum physics always gets downgraded because communication languages aren't for quantum states or mechanisms, but things still they are as they are. Some atoms behave abnormally but i don't know if it happens everytime and with the exact square root quantity. I really liked it.

I'd love if we were to keep getting these ability fights in order to gain upper hands. Midora's will be related to hunger for sure. Maybe he would force cells to eat themselves or something i don't know.

! So Ichiryuu's power is something similar to which I thought.

Moar please!!! Gimme me moar of this awesome!

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!
! This is why I think Ichiryuu could really die in this fight. Now maybe the scenario will move to the other fights…maybe. But, damn, Ichiryuu lost an entire arm. THIS IS AWESOME!
-
! Yeah that was a suprise but he doens't seem preocupied.

! I think the "Chopstick rifle" thing Ichriyuu threw at Midora would have swept away Toriko, Starjun, Zebra, Sani, Coco, Grin, Tommy, 0th Biotope Guys, Bishokukai high ranking guys and NEO members, all together of course

@Area:
The way Shima describes the square root law is a little off. It is a simply statistical argument, having nothing whatsoever to do with quantum mechanics.
It can be applied to any statistical ensemble: The statistical average of any "large population" ensemble (regardless of its probability distribution) will tend to have a variance that is inversely proportional to the square root of the population. But I figure since the percentage of these decrease exponentially as the volume of atoms increase, making the minority even more minor, it's hard to imagine there being enough "irrational" atoms to make a difference in a human body.
It's not exponential decrease, but inversely proportional to the square root of the population size.
Shima even addresses this in the chapter when he says that large organisms are thought to exist just to reduce the error introduced by the square root law. This makes intuitive sense, because a larger organism can support things like a circulatory system, etc. to maintain homeostasis.
What puzzles me is the way he brings the law up, even says that these minority atoms/cells/whatever create error in an organism's behavior, but then says that Ichi can fly and stuff because of them. Shouldn't Ichi have a TON of mass/stuff in his body, like Master Chin, and thus have an extraordinarily low fraction of "strays"?
I don't get it. Maybe the chapter coming out now will help clarify a little. -
! Now that looks painful.
-
! This logic of HEY IF IM SUICIDAL THEN THE ONES TRYING TO LIVE BECOME THE MINORITY! is headache inducing.
Shimaboo really does feel like the modern Yudetamago.! I don't know what you mean, when did Ichiryuu or Midora say this? Did I completely misinterpret the latest chapter, or is this related to spoilers of the next one?

Because it's a statistical phenomenon, which he's describing as an absolute effect. When it's said that a few atoms would move differently, it is not as if a select group of albums are rebelling against the norm. Different atoms will act unpredictably and in different ways. Even if we ignored the physics of flying using a minority of atoms, Ichiryuu would be incredibly lucky at best. And we're talking about the kind of luck with probabilities too low for most calculators to distinguish from zero.

Well, but this is the greatness of Ichiryuu, isn't it? To be able to fly controlling that small portion of atoms? In the way he uses that "law" the phenomen isn't statistical anymore but he controls it.
-

I think the whole point of his power is that he's able to control the way in which the minority is unpredictable. That's why my theory is that he's able to choose between equal probability states to some large degree. Thus he can fly by choosing the state where a bunch of electrons gather at his feet and don't fall, while the rest of his body is kept afloat by the same simple electrostatic interactions that stop us from falling through floors
-
Even if you suspend that bit of disbelief, by definition, if the vast minority of your mass was moving upwards you would still not fly. The net force is down. And it hasn't been reduced by much, either.
-

Not necessarily. The electric forces are far, far more powerful than gravitational forces, so it's not impossible to imagine they could provide a sort of floor. From there, the rest of the body stays together for the same reason your arms don't fall off normally

Are you kidding? That's not even the given explanation. Plus the electric forces between the human body and there earth are not big. The amount of energy required to make that happen would probably be more than the amount needed to fly by flapping your arms, but I'm not doing that calculation for a series about magical food people.

The thing about electric fields is that they're incredibly powerful, but only in really, really tiny distances. So if the floor I spoke of is only a few nanometers away from the other molecules, I don't see it as that impossible

This is still not the explanation in the manga.
And still not even close to how things work.

Does Midora's Hingry Tongue look phallic or is my mind just dirty?

This is Toriko. Everything is phallic.

Does eating / consuming Tommyrod will affect Sunny in a way?
Similar to what I speculate that has happened to Coco. Eaten by Grinpatch?
I know Grin has tendencies to eat others… the only one that I could remember... -
So Midora's ability is like the Nothing in Neverending Story? Like it eats everything that it reaches?
