Probs not until at least after York New.

Read it later. It's pretty much the equivalent of Strong world chapter 0 from One Piece
Read the first few chapters it's okay in terms of the story I'm not as into it as some other manga I read and I'm hoping the art improves some whenever it showed an open sea or open field you could barely tell what it was and just about every other panel it felt almost as if there is just characters and a white background.
Still going to read it tho
I also wanted to ask when this manga first released it seems rather old.

I'd say don't really go expecting the art to improve, it has a lot of ups and downs with some incredibly scribbly moments.
And I believe it was first serialized back in 1998.
Actually, the art gets really damn good at times. But other times….
Yeah

I'm probably going to stick with the anime because the art and animation is damn pretty (THANK YOU MADHOUSE). I put it off for years because the first few episodes were kinda boring to a first-time watcher, but once I forced myself to continue it got a lot better. It still irks me that there are so many games and tests used as pretense for 1v1 fights… but the mindgames are always fun.

Yeah
His art can get really good but he's one of those artists who I feel doesn't quite have a consistent, internal style. Sometimes his stuff flows really beautifully in a kind of flowery and feminine way, other times his stuff looks kind of crude and more usual of a shonen mag.
I think the former's sort of shoujo style is his more natural way of doing things when he puts his mind to it and the latter is the result of him being Togashi?
Like the other way to word it is sometimes Illumi is a beautiful luscious woman and sometimes he's a big goofy looking cute guy with weird eyeballs

Yeah
I like how for the sake of future generations Togashi left that one chapter untouched even in the tankobon. So the future readers can get the taste of real HunterxHunter.
Phantom Troupe Phantom Troupe Phantom Troupe <3 So much Phantom Troupe <333
^me during the whole episode pretty much.
So, jupiter guy is Brook. Cool
So. I have a guest visiting who hasn't heard of HxH. Which episode should I show him that would be most impressive?
Things to note:
-He's only staying a couple of days. So I just want to stick to one or two episodes.
-He's really behind on a lot of anime, but he does like Bleach and OP.

This latest episode (96) is really fucking cool, so if he likes diverse action with interesting powers and good action dialogue, he'll like this episode. It's a far cry from any action in Bleach though, so it may not be his thing.
Episode 47. I imagine the Kurapika vs. Uvogin fight has pretty universal appeal. Frankly if someone didn't like that, I'd be pretty weirded out (unless they only liked light-hearted shows). Now I know someone here's probably a special snowflake and doesn't like the fight, but anyway, the episode has fantastic clashing dialogue, an unusual power used to great effect, runs through the whole "20%-50%->100%" full power thing very briskly so as to show this is brisk, non-dragged-out action, and the direction's phenomenal. Frankly though, I would only like to see that fight in context. Unless I happen upon them by accident, I like the best moments of shows preserved within context, just for added surprise and impact. So again, ask him if he cares about stuff like that. Plus, "because there's evil running about that needs to be chained down to hell." I mean come on, how cool is that?
Episode 81. If he's a fan of music, episode 81 has fight music that syncs up perfectly with the motions and expressions of the characters when they first fight Rammot, and there are so many cool moments in it, like Kite backing up away from the fight, Colt carrying Rammot off when he's done observing, etc. The only thing to worry about there is he might find Rammot's design silly, which I have to say a random viewer probably would. But he's read One Piece so he's used to silliness.
Episode 82. The episode directly after that is also very cool in battle sequences, shows off things like human slaves etc. to give him a taste of how dark the series is, and has a little more layers to the animation than usual.
Episode 3. Seems I've mentioned mostly fighting so far. A good introduction to the diverse character designs is episode 3. I remember it had a shot in there which had a nice palette of characters that kind of hints to a vast world to be explored, and it's just a kind of addicting episode with Tonpa's antics and the resulting interactions from the characters to those antics. Also the dialogue about what being a Hunter is between Leorio and Kurapika is highly entertaining.
Episode 84 is the introduction of Neferpitou.
Really, it's hard to go wrong with most Hunter episodes. Just take what you know about his personality and figure out which one(s) he might like best.
o/ I read OP and I found Rammot's design to be ridiculously silly when I marathoned past that episode a few days ago.
Yeah. There's in general a ton of really good epiodes. So I was asking mostly to get an idea to narrow it down. Part of me wanted to show the Gon vs. Hisoka arena fight. Or the dodgeball finale.
I'm still a bit confused on where the ants got their clothes. There are far too many banana hammocks.

It's a pretty goofy design. Rammot's menace and sheer bloodlust makes up for it though.

I'd say the Gon Vs Hisoka fight is your best bet, because of the brilliant animation and also anything with Hisoka is instantly memorable.
Because Hisoka.
^ Forget what I said just show your friend this video, it's perfect.
I guess I could just YouTube clip him up.
Ok I have an issue….....I can't figure out if Kurapika is a guy or a girl or both It's been irking me for a while can someone tall what he/she/heshe is?
She's female. But acts very boyish. Like a tomboy.
Don't listen to Enzeru. Kurapika's a boy. In fact, everyone in Hunter x Hunter is a boy.
Thanks Nobo.
With that said and answered why the lack of females? Only females I recal seeing are Gon's aunt and the 2nd exam judge. author must be sexist or something.
author must be sexist or something.
Are you stupid?
Just because there aren't enough women you think he's sexist?

I was being sarcastic sheesh. I have read many a manga that either have very little female presence or the females that are present (main or minor) are portrayed in a bad way. I only brought it up here because this manga in particular has had the lowest amount of female characters (so far anyway) that I have seen in any manga I have read. Heck I even remember a time when Naruto author was being bashed by APforumers for the way he was portraying his female characters (for the record I wasn't one of those people)
Anyway as I said I was being sarcastic didn't mean any offense. I apologize.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure the original Hunter X Hunter anime assumed Kirapika was a girl.
In fact, everyone in Hunter x Hunter is a boy.
ESPECIALLY the girly looking ones.
Biscuit might be a girl. But only because she looks so manly in her true form.
Anyway as I said I was being sarcastic didn't mean any offense. I apologize.
Then I take back my insult and apologize as well.
@RobbyBevard:

original? is there more than one version of HxH anime?
Yes, the 1999 one.
Ahahaha, your sig is the best thing.
This latest episode was just really peak entertainment for me. I like how even trash villains like the ant who defeated Ponzu are given some decent dialogue, and are swift enough to think of backup plans like just straight-up running (I'm not using the word "bolt" to mean run because fuck bolt, it's overused. Bolt for worst word 2013) and then getting help from one of your ant friends. It's really so satisfying after the ants have terrorized the audience and the people for them to be swiftly defeated, but in a way that you're like, "well, the people defeating them are so powerful that it doesn't diminish the threat of the ants." I guess ants just can't keep up with spiders.
Well, palm is a girl.
And chedadle.
But the best girl is Bisquit.
The phantom troupe girls (Paku, Machi, Fanbait)
There's always the Pitou Factor. (We don't know what it is, plus gender doesn't aply to chimera ants, but acts femaleish)
And new Kaito.
Aluka is most likely a boy, but identifies herself as female, Kaluto is just crossdressing (I think). And Kilua's mom. And the butler Girls (old lady motorcicle, and the other one)
I've been wondering what's going to happen to Alligator?
Haven't heard from him in a few episodes… So he might of started his nest underwater breeding with everything he can get his hands on.
I liked his boasting and cocky personality. No idea if he learnt Nen from getting punched from Rammot... Only one way to find out.
I get your sig, but somehow it really bugs me because of the pseudo math >_>
Pseudo? Whatcha mean pseudo? Are there numbers in it? Then it's legit math :P
I think he means the sum not having anything to sum? And the "i" under the fraction would still be i when square rooted then squared. So you'd get an imaginary number. Because Luffy is in a coma and is imagining things. :O
well it tries to make it look obfuscated, but there are 2 variables (crew and x) w/ only 1 equation so it's unsolvable, and as you mentioned the sigma summation sign can't be squared and there is nothing in it. The i under the radical is solvable but the answer will end up also being an imaginary number as you said.
Feitan swearing in Chinese was satisfying.
Was that Chinese? LOL
Edit: Also, am I right to think HxH's story seems a bit simple compared to One Piece's? I caught up to the anime last weekend and that was the first thing on my mind.
You're not the only one tired of waiting, Phinks. We're all waiting…every single day... but it ain't happening.
Should I …..
Anime is free.
Free is always better.
Always.
Yes.
The manga volumes are good. Viz's translation is probably the best according to some people.
The anime is about as faithful as you could wish for, but it's still an adaptation. They did change a few details. It's excellent, but I would still recommend the manga.
This episode was really awesome. The art style was at its best, animation was fluid and it was action packed. Seriously worth the wait. Also I loved the added scene where Phinks went out of his way to protect Kalluto from being in the range of Feitan's attack on the queen. It was just really sweet.
Seriously it was an awesome episode 10/10
The only reason I like Feitan is because he's basically Hiei 2.0
I still don't understand why Kalluto underestimated the Ryodan:
If Kalluto heard about Killua and Gon from the others, it would become even more apparent how weak s/he is considering Killua > Kalluto and he could barely fight them. As an assassin, it's sad Kalluto can't properly guage how strong they are.
^ Amazement for the audience's sake? Togashi needed someone to fulfill the expository role so the audience can see how cool and badass the Spiders are.
^ Amazement for the audience's sake? Togashi needed someone to fulfill the expository role so the audience can see how cool and badass the Spiders are.
Wasn't it already obvious though? They're a group of famous thieves and the entire York Shin arc was about their bad ass-ary. I'm not saying the fights should've been taken out, but it really doesn't make sense for Kalluto to be so amazed considering his lineage and nature as an assassin. S/he's arrogant because of the famous Zoaldyck name, but it's unbecoming of an assassin to be arrogant (all of Silva and Illumi's teachings state that assassin's should always be on guard, etc.). S/he's like the most sorry ass, defective assassin ever.
