How long are these extra interview videos? Very happy about more extra's. I know I've e-mailed them in the past about more extra's for OP like interviews and behind the scene extra's since I like all that stuff. I ordered mine the other night…do you only get it early if you ordered it a while ago?

Rightstuf will ship it out whenever they get them in their warehouse. So if they still have some copies in the warehouse from the first shipment, your order would ship out when it processes (within 48 hours). The earlier you order, the earlier you get put in the quota for shipping, and so the more likely you are going to get your copy from the initial batch, which is often a few weeks early.
Speaking of Rightstuf, I still can't believe it only just left Iowa today >.<
-
The more little extras they make, the better!
I'll be picking up my set tomorrow morning.
-

Don't forget, they had that snowstorm so there may have been delays getting some out.
But what I can't believe is that I selected UPS ground instead of USPS Priority as I normally do, so I won't have it until Friday and it shipped out on Monday….I'm still trying to figure out what the hell I was thinking, especially given that the UPS ground cost me two dollars more than priority....
-
Dat 2nd Day Air, baby.
Just saiyan.
-
Ok, I'm home and I'm watching the episodes myself right now. Anyone have any requests for clips?
-
I'd like to see Blueno shooting Iceberg, or some flashback goodness like when Tom stands up to Spandam at the end of Franky's flashback.
I just realized is that Demon Rin from the JoJo forums? (I'm ThePachyon) :P small world since I'm really new to this forum (and being current on OP manga in general)
-
Lol yup, the very same! And I got your requests. Blueno shooting Iceberg and something from the Franky Flashback, got it. Gimme a few mins.
-
Very cool (and thanks) I don't have funds for anime right now, but I'll be picking up S4V4 next month. Some of the fight scene with Kaku and Lucci vs Zoro and Luffy, Lucci is using his devil fruit. I'm curious how that sounds. :P I literally can't wait for this set.
-
I gave it a file name that has nothing to do with the content so that hopefully that'll keep it from getting taken down for copyright infringement. Considering who I'm doing it for, I hope you get a giggle out of the name.
-
:) yay, this should tide me over till I get my set. Water 7/ELobby is still my favorite arc!
Squee, just the chunk of the scene I wanted to see. Iceberg is a lot better, Blueno's more serious voice works pretty well too. Lol, got the clip. My attempts to not spoil myself on hearing the dub of this set have been indeed Useless Useless Useless.
-
Rin suddenly realizes she was dealing with a clip with a character named "Blueno" who can make any opening in a wall
realizes the title of the file should have been "Sticky Fingers"
Kicks selfBlah! Here's the next one then!
-
To be fair, I didn't think of that either :P Should have. Heheh.
-
Click Here for the Last one you asked for. I think. I hope I got the right part. Either way, this is by far the longest clip I've ever uploaded, so don't expect any longer than this from me ever lol.
That covers all 3 of your requests right? Did I get the right parts? -
Heh yea so far, these are good. bout to watch the last one. Gum Gum ora Ora, lol, makes me think of Jump Super Stars where Jotaro and Luffy had a team super combo attack.
-
Again, the acting in these DVD sets is awesome… But it makes me realize how hard it will be for a Non-Toonami network to accept One Piece. It really is too violent.

Maybe they will accept it after Enies Lobby. ;)

Hm. My girlfriend didnt see the plot twist coming, even though I thought the voices were poorly disguised. No harm, no foul, I suppose.

Can't wait to see what my wife thinks. We are only one episode in on the new set, just before the reveal I think.
-
Haha. She felt bad when Kalifa was revealed. Poor Iceberg. And had a what the fuck face when Kaku was.
-
Ha, when I was first reading this arc I totally thougth Kalifa had a thing for Iceberg, so I remember being a bit surprised too.
I'll try showing this arc to my girlfriend too and see what she thinks of the reveal when we get to it.
-
Pauly: So, you're good at fighting, right?
Luffy: Hell, yeah!
My favorite line so far!
-
I've got two friends who have no clue who CP9 are. I can't wait to show them this set, I don't think they know about Sogeking either, which for me was such a pleasant surprise. (Though we'll have to wait longer to see him in the dub)
-
Despite my tracking number saying it was in Iowa, this just showed up to my house! I can't wait to watch it!!
-
My best friend's already seen these episodes in Japanese, but her Friend is just watching it for the first time. So I'll ask what she thought of the twist when I get a chance.
As we're getting dangerously close to it… I'm really REALLY wondering what FUNimation is gonna do about the 5 rerun episodes during Enies Lobby...
Wonder if anyone could ask Mike McFarland on Twitter or Facebook or something... -
Got it today.
They updated the English credits during the opening to now show "ETERNAL POSE" as the ending song. On previous sets, the ending song was left out of the opening credits due to the licensing issues.
I really wasn't able to tell whose voices were what while they were in costume. FUNi added a slight mask-like voice effect. Comparing Blueno now to Blueno in the bar, there's more than enough of a difference to satisfy me.
We get "Ohara" name-dropped by Iceberg for the first time in the dub, to my knowledge. Stressing the 'O'. Sounds a bit strange to my ears at first, but that's no doubt how the Japanese exactly pronounced it.
-
It kinda irks me that Lucci said "Paramythia". I was hoping that now that we're deep into Water 7, the old BS Toei List issues would stop being a problem.

Finally. It didn't seem right without it shown in the opening.

What's funny is that we had Eneru say it the correct way in Season 3, with that being the first Season FUNi dubbed and the one you'd expect to have the most of those issues kept in even the uncut release by accident.
Oh well. Guess I'll just pretend Lucci had a lisp for that one line or something.
-
I just want to say that Christopher Corey Smith does a great job as Spandam. A lot better than Kent Williams from what I remember.
-
Seems like they're referring them to the Navy again… weird.
I've also forgotten how dragged out that section in which their in the Galley La building was. Really, 5 whole episodes?
Voices are on point, though. Franky is sounding less gruff when he's calm, which is nice.
Haha, 'Baka-Berg' is 'Ice-for-Brains' in the dub. Also, Tom says 'Do it with GUSTO' in place of 'Do it with a DON'.

You know, I thought that it would be too many episodes, too, but it turned out not to be too badly paced. The episodes move at a good speed and I'm sure it also helps with all the plot dumps.
Did you mean to say Pauly sounds less gruff when he's calm? Because that much it true.
I still can't stand tilestone's voice. It's too ridiculous and exgerated.I didn't like the fisheye lenses either. For that scene with robin and iceberg. It also distracted from the important information that was being said in the scene.
Top notch voice acting, for the most part. My disappointments lie with Toei's adaptation, really.
-
Those sound like good alternatives. Ice for Brains heh.

I'd like to know what the fuck Toei is thinking.
-
You do realize that the reason One Piece isn't on TV has more to do with other networks than Toei, right?
-
I know. But I bet Toei is still asking a lot for One Piece. Toonami could have aired on the first day of the revival if they had lowered their Prices. HELL! It was the first anime to leave CN (I know this is still CN's fault)because of how expensive it was! Jason de Marco said it THEY WANT ONE PIECE.
Toonami wants One Piece, De Marco wants One Piece, WE WANT ONE PIECE. The only obstacle I can think of is how expensive it is.
-
Seems like they're referring them to the Navy again… weird.
That's how they've always done it, and I like the way they do it, it makes the most sense.
We only know the organization as the "Marines" because Oda wrote "MARINE" on practically all their stuff. The Japanese version doesn't say "Marine" in the dialog/word boxes, it says "Kaigun" which does NOT Translate out to "Marine" in English, it translates out to "Navy". "Marine" would be "Kaihei". So why does Oda write "Marine" yet call the organization the "Navy"? Possibilities are:
1: It's not meant to be English. It's a loan word from another language where "Marine" means "Navy" (IE German)
2: Oda doesn't know English as a native language, so he dun goofed
3: The organization as a whole are the "Navy" and the grunts are the "Naval-Marines" or just "Marines" which is why you see the Kanji for "KAIGUN" (海軍) on most buildings, and mostly only see "MARINE" written on the individual grunts and their ships/equipment.FUNimation seems to operate on the logic of #3 and I like it best that way. It addresses the issue where Oda wrote an English word that doesn't match up with the Japanese word he uses without incident.
Pay attention, you'll notice FUNimation only refers to the organization as a whole the "Navy" and when they use "Marine" They're referring to the grunts or individual groups of grunts.Haha, 'Baka-Berg' is 'Ice-for-Brains' in the dub. Also, Tom says 'Do it with GUSTO' in place of 'Do it with a DON'.
I know and I love it. It's wonderful to see them adapt these little quirks into ways that are perfectly understandable by everyone and get the same point across.
I would have preferred "Do it with a bang" over what they picked, but that doesn't make their decision wrong, it's still a great idea. -
That's pretty excellent actually. I always enjoyed Funi's take on the Marine=Navy debate. Is that true, in Germany the Navy is referred to as the Marines? That might actually explain a lot, but I feel Funimation's alternative works really well for english speaking audiences.

Yeah, the German word for "Navy" is "Marine" and not just in One Piece, it's how their language works.
-
Yeah, Pauly sounds better, too. But I did mean Franky. He doesn't sound as… rageful when he talks normally, now. Which was the only problem I had with the voice. As for Tilestone... well.... he was annoying in Japanese version too. Making a character who only screams is pretty stupid. Lmao.
I know about the whole Navy-Marine thing... But if you look at the Funi dub in the beginning, they referred them to Marines pretty much all the time. The only time they ever said "Navy" was when referring to Navy HQ, and even then they still called it Marine HQ at times. But in these episodes, all instances are "Navy". I haven't even heard Marine once. Come to think of it, season 4 has been like this as a whole for the most part.
-
Personally I cracked up every time Tilestone spoke in the dub. The other characters annoyance at him was also enjoyable. :3c I can't wait to see the scene with Usopp and Franky. How was that part in the dub? For me its excited because not only is it my first time with the dub but with Water 7 in animation as well. Previously I read it in the manga years ago when it was first released, but its still my favorite arc.

Again, I'll rewatch and check to be sure, but I'm positive the way it works with FUNi is:
Refer to the Organization on any capacity - Navy
Refer to the individual soldiers or groups of soldiers - Marine/Marines -
I rewatch the whole series pretty much everytime a new DVD comes in (once I'm finished with it) so I'm pretty sure myself, but be my guest…

That's even more intense than my watching each new disc four to seven times.

Isn't that just referring to becoming part of the organization itself? I mean, it's not like they were talking about a particular group of Marines in those scenes.
-
Not sure why anyone would be "disappointed" with Tilestone's voice. He's loud and obnoxious in BOTH versions, and that's the whole gag. Nothing to like or hate there for me.
Anyway, this dub just gets better and better for me. I could give a few gripes here and there, but they are so small that it's not even worth mentioning, and so far in-between as well. Dub Lucci sounds a tad bit more sarcastic than emotionless Japanese Lucci, but I have no real issue with that.
Dub Franky is far different from Japanese Franky, but I love both versions just the same. I can really see Seitz is getting into the character already just from the flashback alone, and that he's capable of toning it down a bit during the goofy scenes. He'll work out just fine in the future.
I personally wasn't a huge fan of Spandom's VA. Not that bad and it fits, but there was something about the Japanese actor that sounded better to me. But I'll give it time. If this VA can pull off some of the scenes later down the line, I'll be fine with the performance.
I think Tom's dub voice and his "gusto" line was just fine. I had to look up the definition because I wasn't familiar with what the word meant (knew the word, but not the definition), and it definitely fits just fine in the place of don. Overall, I have no issues whatsoever with the decisions Mike made for this arc in terms of adaption. He's doing the best he can along with the writers and actors to bring this over in English.
I did find it off with the whole Paramecia pronunciation, but I guess that's Toei's fault.
Definitely an A- set all around. I only take off a couple of points because the art was a bit off during some episodes, especially during Franky's flashback. That's Toei's department, though, and has nothing to do with the dub.
So the next set is in May, right? 12 or 13 episodes…? It should finish off season four, right? I hope season five starts up right away and that we won't have to wait too long. I'm jobless at the moment, but I have a bit of money stashed away to ensure that I can at least buy this set in May regardless of what happens. But hopefully I'll get hired before that so I won't need to worry about it...
Oh, and on a side note, I was taken off guard by the special side interviews, but I loved them. I'd definitely like to see more of them and the continued two commentaries per set.
EDIT: I'm a bit surprised some of you didn't like the artistic choices during Iceberg's interagation. There were some poorly drawn episodes in this set, but I thought that perspective was pretty unique and worked well to add to the stress and surreality of the situation. Even the shots through the floor, as odd as they were, seemed to fit in my opinion.
-
Regarding the Navy/Marine thing, for those who don't know, (at least here in the US) the Marines ARE technically part of the Navy. It's why the Marines are more properly called the Marine Corp. (As another example, the US Air Force actually started out as a part of the Army as the Army Air Corp. until Congress authorized their separation in the 1940's as their own official branch.) While we here in the US have trended over the centuries to separate the two, unofficially, Rin's take is probably the most accurate as a whole to how it actually is (organization = Navy, Marines=a sub-set of soldiers) and while I wouldn't go so far as to say that the two terms could be used interchangeably, even loosely as it seems to be, in my humble opinion it is close enough such that people really shouldn't let it bother them too much.
-
The point I'm making is, it's actually more accurate to translate it as "Navy" because that's what the Japanese people are actually saying. "Marine" would be "Kaihei".
Also, watching the Commentary now and LMAO. They just revealed Sabat's sense of direction is as bad a Zoro's in real life. The only difference is that Sabat has an iPhone with GPS, but if he didn't he'd be as bad as Zoro easily lol.
EDIT: HAH! Paulie's Voice actor hasn't seen ahead, and is theorizing that the mastermind of the entire plot to kill Iceberg and steal Pluton is going to end up being Hattori.
EDIT: UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!!….... NO. NO. You Don't do that Mike McFarland. don't. You use "Nakama" in conversation, it helps continue to spread the bullshit.

You can't blame him on that. Many fans probably brainwashed him. You'll have to meet him yourself and explain your point.
Speaking of which, Mike McFarland kind of looks like a young Bill Murray. Very interesting. Always nice to see the faces behind these awesome voices. Eric, Brina, and Chris also look different from how I was picturing them, but it's not bad. (Note: I don't go to conventions, so I had no idea what they all looked like)

Man, that sucks even worse than when the Facebook Toei guy used it.
Poor Rin…
