New chapter is out, go read it it's hilaring:
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2013/01/28/gintama-431/! The face of Zura when Gintoki asked him if he ****** her is priceless
-
Got a quick question for Gintama fans, now I only watch the anime and just watched the latest new arc and am curious if they continue with that arc in the newer chapters? It was pretty cool and I loved how it ended and am looking forward to how it goes. Any one help me with this? I don't read the manga sorry, this is one of those series where I just watch the animeXD Thanks.
-
that was the end of the arc. So far it hasn't had an arc like that although it has had 2 semi-serious arcs since then.
-
It's sad that nobody commented yet the conclusion of one of the few arc where we have a serious Katsura…
I really liked this arc, but I wonder if we we will see the old guy again... -
Gintama hasn't been fun for a while, Obi's arc was to shoehorned and rushed to be fun but at least it was fun, Kagura's boyfriend was lame, the swords was too graphic with the anal damage to look pass it and see the family as it is, the action was kind of cool though, this arc was too straightforward and other than the cardboard army, it was pretty forgettable.
The standalones, I enjoyed the Yamazaki chapter, loathed the game chapter, and not remember any other since the last serious arc, the one where the teacher's face was revealed.
Maybe I need a quick reread.

I personally disagree. I've liked a lot of that stuff. And I found the game creation chapter hilarious
-
Tama's quest, Mon Hun, and the Ventendo OWE chapters were a lot better.
-
Which doesn't mean it was bad
-
Witch means that he's already done the idea, better.
Also he's already done the "take over a creative project" sketch, but without the author reacting to the defacing, it's just vandalism.
-
i thought the gaming chapter was jokes. And i kinda see what you mean. There needs to be some more funny focused chapters instead of serious ones as we've had like 4 almost all in a row

This series is on a looooong list of anime/manga series I want to check out, I just wanna ask a few things before I check it out, which will probably be in a few months after I finish up my HUGE backlog.
-
Does this series have an ending in sight?
-
Are there any super serious arcs or any awesome fights? I'm fine with comedy series, but I've always preferred action especially when things are long. I know Gintama is primarily a comedy series, I'm just hoping for some bad ass moments or something. As long as its always fresh though, it really doesn't matter.
-
Does it have a coherent story, like One Piece or is it like a sitcom?
That's it for now, thanks in advance!

1)Not really, the villain has been established and continues his own schemes but no idea at what point he will act upon them.
2)Yes, Every 100 or so chapters there is a serious arc that furthers the main plot in some way. Then there are also "semi-serious" arcs, those involve fighting and stuff but they don't further the plot at all. At most they introduce new characters.
3)I'm not sure it should be called a coherent story, we see glimpses of what the main villain does at times but it doesn't really go beyond presumedly setting up stuff for later. The majority of the series is episodical gag. If you don't like episodical gag you won't like this series at all, Gintama does manage to combine gag and serious pretty good though.
Ofcourse, the anime if that's what you're gonna do doesn't follow the "every 100 chapters" basis for serious arcs.

You have to like penis jokes. And shit jokes. And all other toilet humor.
Else, you won't last.
-
There's also meta humor, and trully heartwarming moments. But they are in decline lately, trying to make us care for minor characters.
-
@__SSJLuffy__ Personally, the way I see it, the series really just does whatever the hell it wants
When it wants to be a comedy, it'll be a comedy
When it wants to be serious and badass, it'll be serious and badass
When it wants to have a plot, they'll have a plotI think you get what I mean….
Also, I'd say you wanna pick the anime over the manga for this one, because a there are lot of moments that have more impact in the anime compared to the manga. Oh, and don't bother with the first two episodes, as they're both filler and really unfunny. I'd also say that you should watch up to the Benizakura Arc, but if you still don't enjoy the series by then, its really not for you :/
-
What a twist! lol
and i'm liking nobume more and more everytime she appears. Also there's a new episode on thursday if anyone doesn't know
-
Thanks for the info everyone!
Well, this series is officially in my backlog now! If it wasn't already big enough.

I always say Gintama is the japanese version of the Simpsons, with Gintoki the lazy drunkard just like Homer, Kagura as the wild little Bart and Shinpashi the annoying Lisa. It also contains trash and sexual humor and some real life characters appears just like in the Simpsons (We saw Will Smith, Jacky Chan and even some Japanese ministers). Finally, just like the Simpsons it can have some really epic episodes but in a manga fashion…
But the thing that I like the most about Gintama is how it has very uncommun charachters like prsotitutes, cabaret girls or even a lesbian and it seems so natural that nobody is shoked to find such things in a shonen manga for children. Sorachi is really a genius! -
Also, that other than Gin and the shinsengumi, most of the strong characters are female. The core of the family is a matriarch.
-
And the girls are real charachters not like these fanservice pinups in other mangas. I think Otae is the only manga heroine with a flat chest :p

Maka, soul eater?

Apparently the name and release date for the new movie are going to be revealed after next week's anime episode.
-
So the anime is covering the beam sword arc now.
I'm hoping the anime starts to cover the more humour based chapters after this. I don't mind them covering the more serious based arcs but I miss the comedy based stuff.

So are we to assume that they're gonna go for the regular 50 episode season type deal? And then head to another hiatus or something? I guess after all it does make sense for them to do so, so they can build more of a buffer for the anime series later on. Any thoughts on this?

They're probably just trolling the fans…

Actually come april a different anime is in gintamas time slot. The reason this season is.so short is probably because.of the movie.and the next season will be like normal

Soraichi proved it again ^^

Otae is kind of anoying because she's as strong as the plot is nonsensical, once a serious arc shows up, she can be kidnaped by bringing her wrist together.
The chapter hinged too much on knowing japanesse pop culture, specialy the final reveal.
-
Apparently the anime does intentd to reveal the name and release date of the second movie, but they indeed ARE going to dish out the fair share of trolling. Last week the name and date were scratched out with the message "next week the scratches will be removed". This week they are in fact removed, but now the name and date are pixelated. So I'm lead to believe this will be going on until the season ends in a few weeks, and then the title and release date will be revealed at the end of the season finale. If by that time it isn't already announced in Shonen Jump.
-
Like you guessed, it actually is getting announced in next week's WJ. That stuff got leaked. http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=28240&page=270&p=2842250&viewfull=1#post2842250

The new chapter is out and… well, see for yourself:

Glad that Sachi, the Mangaka/Convict is now a recurrent character, color page worthy.
-
well this arc certainly has major potential for hilarity. I wonder if we'll see as many characters as in the time skip arc
-
Well, let's see where this goes. It's seems like a fun arc, but it's weird that it's playing it both serious (Kabukichou lockdown, Kyubei's feelings) and fun (Kagura, Sadaharu and Shimpachi's change).
-
I really hope we see Katsura this arc. He's one of the characters with the most hilarity potential for this type of thing. A female Kondo might be hilarious as well
-
Kagura is crazy, so funny!! I want to see a male Tae, he will surely be even crazier than Kagura
-
Male Tae would certainly be a strong twist.
-
I completely lost it at Kagura's first panel.
-
Male Tae would certainly be a strong twist.
Given that it seems to have affected all of Kabukicho and that this is a Kyuubei (or should I say Jyuubei) arc, I'd be heavily surprised if we didn't see male otae.
Also, after reflecting on it, can we all agree that Male Kagura is the most hilariously badass character in the series?
-
I certantly love this Kagura, but again, the randomness of the change affecting the main characters, while the effect was already stablished and made sense is offputting.
Tae will show up, male Tae is another thing all together, I'm also interested in Shimpachi's reaction.
-
Maybe she became a gorilla and Shinpachi didn't notice the difference.
-
I'd be surprised if Kondo hasn't turned into a female gorilla.
Hilarious arc so far, finally! Haven't really enjoyed the last several chapters for some reason.
-
I'm pretty sure theres more to this than just gender changing. I mean sadaharu changed species and shinpachi didn't change and while they are jokes, sorachi often uses jokes like this as plot points with logic? behind it
