It took me 2 pages to realize what was going on, I should pay more attention.
Teenage Zenkichi cracked me up because of it being faithful to the continuity. Child Kumagawa was creepy as fuck.

@Money:
So is Medaka Box Abnormal the official name? What episode has Naze?
Yep that's the official name. The latest episode, episode 6, had Naze in it, it's the start of Akune's fight with Naze's cyborg
I saw it. Why does the opening show people from later in the series?

Have you never seen an opening for an anime before?
Oh lawdy, I'm happy that Kurapika's legendary VA is doing Naze's voice! Such a pleasant and diverse voice.
I mean, they are from 2 arcs later
Medaka Box 172 side note: manga is strange
I'm really digging language users now
Kumagawa is a boss. Why was Zenkichi actinh like baby beel?
@Money:

Because he's a cool _devil_ *badum tss
You know it'd be ten times more hilarious if it was Kumagawa in the wedding gown.
at first I thought that was Medaka, went "wait that didn't happen" then did a doubletake, realized it was kumagawa, and promptly lost my shit.
Wait, that IS Kumagawa? But he has boobs? Genderbent Kumagawa WTF!?! hahahaha
LOL I thought Medaka looked a bit weird
Pftawahahahahaha! That made my day
Wait what? Isn't that Medaka? I don't even know anymore.
That's not Kumagawa. He just doesn't have a very varied artstyle.
Medaka's boobs are not that small tho
If I were to pick between Medaka Box and Magi, which would you recommend? I was reading both about a month ago just before I got my new laptop so when I had to read very slowly on my xbox and 3ds slow browsers. I liked Medaka's uniqueness and did like Magi but I dislike rpg settings with the exception of Beet the Vandel Buster and Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken. Does Medaka Box get more interesting power characters? What I am asking is does it become a little more like superpowered shounen?

Both are nearly exactly the same on my manga ranking for completely different reasons (that is, very high up). I don't know how far you got in Magi–RPG settings are awesome IMO--but it takes a detour from that with quite a large arc. I mean, One Piece is actually really similar to an RPG at times; I remember I tried to name of all the jobs the crew could be (Luffy = Monk, Beast Tamer; Zoro = Samurai; Nami = Wizard; Usopp = Ranger(?); Chopper = White Mage; Brook = Bard) and some of those fit pretty damn well, except you have to replace Chopper's spells with medicine, so maybe he's an alchemist (I haven't played too many RPGs).
The RPG thing hasn't gotten focus for a while now (I'm behind though, at chapter 130). It's more magic vs magic. I mean... fighting styles are inevitably going to be similar to RPGs since RPGs have a plethora of classes. And if you have a group fighting, I guess I could see how you could compare it to an RPG.
Medaka Box has some really interesting fighting styles, like Styles which use all of these complicated (to a baka gaijin like me) kanji tricks to lay out the damage on their opponent. I wouldn't read it for the power characters, though, but that is going to be the first reason you read it for, and is definitely one of the things that plays into me liking the manga (but not the main!)
For various reasons I just don't like rpgs. No i didn't mean tropes or archetypes, I meant literally people spending a long time in dungeons fighting mooks or slimes and getting some treasure. I have heard Magi gets more interesting politically with things like castes, or so I have heard. I was asking because I might give both a chance, but I would rather catch up to one at a time. I meant that I didn't like the dungeon trawling bits.
I think my order will be Medaka Box then Magi. I still have where I was in Magi on my mangaupdates account and I can easily find where I was in Medaka Box. Surely it will be less frustrating beig behind when my laptop enables me to read manga at a closer reading speed to my usual very fast speed.
@Friend of Luffy and Gon a lot of people didn't like the school setting in medaka box at the beginning(first 15 chapters of the series) and dropped it , but don't let that stop you from reading because it's a lot better than that .
Oh I don'tmind the school setting, the manga is officially on my reading list again anyway lol. 7 chapter so not bad, I will catch up soon enough lol.
Then it's fine :D , surely it won't disappoint .
Medaka Box 173 Don't really know what to say about this one and work beckons!
They established earlier that they don't retain the abilities they learned after whatever age they're stuck at, which makes Medaka using one of the skills she aped during the Flask Plan a plot hole.
Lol at the babyspeak though
I don't think it affects the abilities she learned with The End.
Why would that be the case?
Because i think that whatever skills she learns just becomes a part of her original skill which is The End.
You have to remember that she just doesn't copy the ability, she perfects it so it becomes a part of her.
Medaka has had The End since the first day she came to the world. To lose all the skills she learned she should lose that. Kumagawa on the other hand…
I feel Medaka Box is worth catching up to, and I kinda knew I would make myself pick that over Magi. Bye bye magi!
Why not just read both?
Yeah Magi is worth to read, its one of the best…..heck the second best shounen out right now, so everyone who hasn't should go read it.
Depends on what you're in the mood for. Are you in the mood for a hilariously stupid and fun exaggerated shonen or a richer and depper adventure series. Either or is fine. It's like the difference between wanting to go on a rollercoaster or crack open a good book.
@Iceborg: anytime a manga isn't to my taste and someone tells me I should read it, Ilose interest. I can't carry through with Medaka Box it is too episodic. I am not enjoying it all all. Bye bye Medaka Box. Anyone judges my tastes without a reasonable argument to back it up, I just don't care I had hell of hat the other day on Fushigi. Nah I hope those who read this series enjoy it, it just isn't my thing.
If you can concvince me though, tell me which chapter to skip to. Actually I don't have time to wait for a reply. Sayonara Medaka Box.
Guess some people have realllly busy lives.

Which is especially understandable considering how intimidating Medaka Box can be to read. Yeah, it's a manga, but try to translate each chapter to a book and see how many pages of text they would be - it would be insane!

It's understandable when the author is used to writing light novels.
Also the story moves along pretty fast thanks to that like with the flashbacks being really short and to the point.
Pheeew, finally caught up with this manga. It was definitely worth it since I'm loving the over-the-stop story (in pretty much every aspect one could possibly imagine).
Not really feel like writing too much now so I'll only state that I like the way the author's using characters one already forgot about and actually gives them a meaningful purpose. For example the suitors- back then when the Jet Black Wedding arc ended, I wondered why the two remaining style users didn't get their time in the spotlight. Well guess that question answered itself already and that's something the author deserves praise for.
Now Magi, time for the two of us to dance as well, wouldn't you agree? :P

Awesome!! You picked a great time to catch up. The current arc is bound to be really gripping. You caught up really fast–it can be quite hard to press on sometimes with this one. I had that predicament when they were playing games with a million rules and you had to actually pay attention to all of the damn rules, lol.
I only dislike that its too wordy n complex, they use games instead of fights, in that group from the flask plan( the one with that bullet eating girl) was never really given roles. But I still love the series
You mean the Plus 6? I wouldn't count them out yet. For example- who would've imagined to see the six core members of the 13 Party show up to save Medaka and her friends just a couple chapters back? and that totally didn't happen only to promote the second season of the anime
About the complexity of the manga; I'll just say that I prefer having wordy explanations that make the story interesting than 3-4 flashy pages and possible plot-holes (of course I'm not talking to you, Kishimoto you rascal). Having fights all the time seems like your typical shonen manga so Medaka Box choosing another route every now and then makes it more or less unique.
Oh yes. I'll admit I'm not perfectly understanding the current situation, but if it means I get to see Kumagawa be evil again then fuck yeah! I was getting it up until he started goading Shiranui, saying it's her fault.
Where was the Bleach reference? I'll try to look for it.
Bleach reference in Medaka Box? Nope.
So Kumagawa combined Hundred Gauntlets with his Minus and thus created an even stronger All Fiction- no wait. He added one more skill to his All Fiction and now has April Fiction (albeit still incomplete according to Kumagawa himself). The name itself is pretty much a dead giveaway in my eyes. It's surely got some secret to it which eventually will bring Zenkichi back without any harm whatsoever. The only result it most likely will create is Shiranui's realization that she does still care about her dear friends- especially the current student council president. That aside, I can't describe how hyped I am to see Real Eater vs April Fiction. You know that something great will come out of it if the open-front hooded sweatshirt lover is involved (guy's got some good taste btw).
And not to forget Medaka; her new attack (her music box rather) seems to be based solely on waves and their corresponding usage. I like it. Now the last of the suitors is interesting to say the least. Let's see what she's up to. All in all a cool chapter.
What on earth is Hundred Gauntlets already
Oh damn I mistook that skill for Book Maker. Now I wanna know as well.
Okay, so apparently Kumagawa's attack is a
! tribute to Anshin'in. A post here explains in a quick screenie I took. There's also some other posts from there that I think I should bring over.
!
! Concerning Kumagawa's brackets:
!
Ah well that makes sense and corresponds to what I imagined April Fiction to be. Yet again we're shown how useful it is to know the manga's original language in order to really understand every pun and hidden message.
