I like the idea of scanlating the newest volumes in the tanko format, like with your Skypiea rescanlation project.
I cannot understand why people would want NULL of all groups to do cracky scanslations! There are no shortage of amateurs to chock up cheap stuff, but there isn't a single group that can truely match NULL in terms of quality. Continue makin' the good stuff, guys. :D
You guys are fine as you are. Besides, you guys are the only place I get One Piece Scanlations from.
I say leave it as it is. I can live with some minor translation glitches but if the quality of the scans sinks then I would really really be disappointed.
Who are the guys that answered "Drop the Project"?!
.> Unthinkable…
The ones who said drop the project are brainless block-heads >.> I say you should keep it going as it is, I prefer high quality scans that I can read over the crappy quality scans >< I hate to squint with my glasses as it is…
Keep going :) I can wait for some quality scans, we all wait on K-F ^_^
Besides having the raw and a good translation is more then enough to hold one over for a while. Keep going with good quality.
DO NOT drop the Project… you guys have the best scanlation there is for OP manga... T_T.. keep it up!!! ^^
Gave my vote. Hope i counts
I also chose,
"Take your time and release good quality SJ scanlations as usual."
Like Malintex_Terek said, there are plenty of groups that will do bad scanlations. What makes NULL special is that it's the one group that consistantly provides high quality scanlations of One Piece.
I put "Take your time and release good quality SJ scanlations as usual"
But HQ Skypeia rescanlation? Are the Skypeia scans bad quality?
please continue like you are.
Even though the poll's closed, I'll add my 2 cents.
Keep the quality, keep the series, but try not to keep the pace. Wouldn't hurt to be slightly faster.
I voted tanko hq release. I am actually kinda disapointed will null right now. I always looked foward to seeing their release on msn, but now they wont allow it. I find it kinda of….dumb. I still respect them and everything but if i wanted to reread in hq scans without looking at my tanks i could. I know there is irc but i dont like waiting inline. Tho hq release i would download.
Stick to the quality stuff, Null. You're all we got XD At least I think so…

Phlemingo, if NULL was able to go faster and still have the same quality, they would.
And warp, if you want a full explanation of why NULL doesn't want their scanlations being hosted out of IRC, look here:
Yeah i know. I read that topic. I'm still kinda disapointed.
I know there is irc but i dont like waiting inline. Tho hq release i would download.
They have enough bots so that you don't really wait in line.
Phlemingo, if NULL was able to go faster and still have the same quality, they would.
Not really. For one, I know they place priority on things other than scanlation, unlike many other scanlators. Not saying it's a bad thing, just saying how they can go faster. Secondly, they are constantly picking up new projects. This of course slows down the progress.
I wish that they would worry a little less about quality so that they could go a little faster, but that wasn't an option, I had to choose either "Make crappy scanslations" or "Make really super HQ ones."
I chose the latter because I'd rather have them go slow and make really high quality ones than have them make crappy ones to keep up with other groups, but I'd really prefer it if they just found some way to go faster, even if that means sacrificing some of the quality. They don't need to be as fast as other groups, but I do think they need to be a little bit faster than they are now. That's my thoughts, anyway.
I loooooove NULL because of the quality.
Sure… I don't wait for NULL's scans when it comes to current chapters, but that's okay. Those aren't the chapters that are being saved on my PC... nor the ones I burn later on... It's NULLs!
And about Skypeia... yes, the quality for those chapters were bad. Very hazzzy. Felt dirty.
So NULL! Keep on truckin'!
I know there is irc but i dont like waiting inline. Tho hq release i would download.
What are you talking about? You never wait inline for their releases. Did you even try it once to download from their IRC channels or are you taking your experience from IRC-anime downloads? If that´s the case then you can´t compare the two to each other. The filesize of animes is bigger which of course makes you wait inline in case some people requested the files for you. The scanslations are much smaller in size and are sent much faster because of that, so you avoid waiting inline. In fact you´re faster if you go through the entire process of downloading a chapter at their IRC channels then when you read a chapter at the MSN page. No kidding.
Keep releasing good quality ones at your own pace (chose: Take your time and release good quality SJ scanlations as), afterall we do have text translations and RAW in the mean time.
"Secondly, they are constantly picking up new projects. This of course slows down the progress."
No, it doesn't. Different editors have different skills, tastes, and amounts of free time. For example, some editors do better with colored manga. Others aren't good enough for shonen jump scanlations. Other projects do not slow One Piece down. But we COULD use some more editors:P
Please continue to release it in HQ. U guys are the best.

Definitely true, but you have to admit, if there were lesser projects AND same number of editors, the little extra help from those who are not up to standard would still speed things up. But I see the point. I'm not complaining though, I follow a couple of the others. You guys have good taste.
Without NULL i wouldn't even be following the manga, i read the raw's when they come out and then i patiently wait for NULL, as for the recent delays, i just put that down to doing special colour spreads.
If you asked my opinion, i'd say drop the HQ scanlations, i really appreciate the work that you guys put in, but if we're honest, the HQ stuff should be stuff that people should be bothering Oda about. what you do now is marvellous and i'm very grateful for that, i really hope you don't drop the project.
I put "Take your time and release good quality SJ scanlations as usual"
But HQ Skypeia rescanlation? Are the Skypeia scans bad quality?
Eh~ it was pretty good, but some stuff was off. Overall, though, NULL should just do what they feel works best (hopefully that isn't dropping it…).
Keep it up, I only care about Null's OP scanlation.
Btw, Hana no Keiji's cool :)
You guys should keep doing it. I been working on a 402 HQ scanlation and I understand how long it takes to make it HQ. It takes me around 2-3 hours to do one Page and it's still no where close to what you guys do. People seem to miss the point about how long it takes to do this. Anyway I hope you keep making your awsome OP scanlations.
forget about trying for speed.
no matter how fast you are, someone will beat you to it. as you can see from bleach or naruto, some people will be able to release a bad scanlation an hour after the raw is out anyway.
but even with their super slow release, null scanlation is still the most downloaded OP scanlation, why is that? because they have the best quality.
It makes me happy to see some people do care about Null's scanlations. I'd kinda begun to think that no one cared.
The kind words are appreciated ^_^
The few people who don't like NULL are basically just the kids in the MSN forum. It's probably all them who voted for NULL to stop scanlating.
I don't read NULL at all so I don't care either way. If I want HQ, then I'll buy the manga and send a bit of money to Oda. My little way of saying thanks to him for all his hard work. =/
shrug Reading scanlations doesn't suddenly mean you can't still do that. I still buy the tankos, and no, it's not so that I can scan them in =P.
Well the poll is closed so what I will choose are the last two options. You guys are doing a great job. Keep it up as you are doing. Seriously keep releasing stuff at your usual pace and keep continuing your HQ work on previous releases. Plus I don't know what I will do and from where I will get one piece manga if you guys drop it:wacko:

I know, but I'm not going to wait around for them. =P LQ works for me fine and when I do buy the GNs, the quality will be an extra treat.

Then why post to this thread if you 1) don't care and 2) don't read Null scanlations? No one's asking you to wait around for anything. =P You're fine with LQ, that's cool, and totally your choice.
I think scanlations are not so much around because of the wait for Tankos to come out, so much as waiting around, growing old, and possibly dying of old age waiting for Viz to catch up.
In fact, as far as the tankos go, I fully encourage anyone who likes OP to pick them up if they can.

Well, this thread is about NULL's One Piece releases, so I made a general -personal- comment about it. I voted you keep up with it, if you really want to know. No reason to quit providing a good service to the OP community even if I it's not my personal preference.
Edit: I deleted my post. =/ Sorry if I offended anyone. I was probably being too harsh considering how much time and effort goes into null's scanlations and the fact that I know certian members here are staff, and I apologize. I do still stand by what I said, however.

They're expensive in the states. I went to a CON and found them for $2.49 each (sealed, new), but most online retailers charge $6+ (not including shipping) for the same tanko. That's almost as much as a VIZ SJ volume. :/

Yeah, I have the same problem. The local japanese bookstore charges 7.99 a pop. I bought a couple, but I've gotten the rest online through other stores. And… I have a friend who found me a bunch at 5 bucks each ^_^
They can be pricy to be sure. x.x
I can get them for max 7 but i usually buy them for $3 :) (i love living in new york). I dont read null because i am chomping at the bit every week and need to know what happens. However, that isnt to say i dont appreciate your work because i know the kind of work it takes to put out the best quality you can with release because i myself have my own group, which pales in comparison to the man power found on null meaning i know even better how time consuming one release can be. At this point, it would suck to drop the project after 399 chapters of it, i mean might as well continue and it doesnt hurt that you have the backing of such a strong community ;)

The retail price is 390 yen. With shipping and handling from Japan to the States, I think that's … reasonable. Heck, at least better than buying them at Border's. Don't they charge you much more expensive?
I buy about 5-10 volumes per month by the way ~.~
Clarifications:
We're not dropping One Piece.
Skypiea really IS crappy. Not only because of our old (translated from the chinese version) scripts, but also because of the horrible editing - I know what I'm talking about, I was one of the editors :P We already re-relased two volumes (26 and 27) in HQ and 28 is on the works, only being delayed by the one-release-only ????? secret project, which will be done soon (read three news posts ago in the site). Those who are unaware of this probably don't use IRC ;-)
The poll is not closed, it will close tomorrow. People from gigantic ISPs who use dynamic IPs may be unable to vote, because after someone votes the user's IP address is blocked from the poll for three days (usually one day, but it was increased to three to ensure there is no double-voting in this poll - the poll will close three days after it started). So if your current IP address was already used and it wasn't by you you may want to try reconnecting to the internet (If it was used by you, please, no double-voting :P There are other safeguards in place anyway, mwahaha).
We Need YOU For The Null Army! Become A Null Editor Now! Moderators, You Did Not See Thisssss…. You Did Nooooot.... makes hypnotic gestures
"Definitely true, but you have to admit, if there were lesser projects AND same number of editors, the little extra help from those who are not up to standard would still speed things up."
Seriously, the impact of the other projects on One Piece current is exactly zero. Even if we cancelled every other project it wouldn't help. It might speed up, like, one day for every three releases ~_~ The opposite isn't true, though, since One Piece is the absolute hardest project. Also, remember that the VGM projects are handled by VGM editors, so they don't count.

Damn ! I'm soooo glad you're not considering dropping One Piece !!!!
Like many others here, I would have been veeeery sad. I do read LQ raws, bad scanlations. But the only ones I download for personal archives is NULL and nothing else.
And I agree, Skypiea is pretty poor  I re-read the volumes yesterday after watching K-F ep 180, and my eyes cried a bit by the end of volume 30 or so
Well, keep going at your pace, only your great job has its place on my hard drive.
i would love to be an editor but you guys have some high ass standards. I mean i have work to show you guys but it never seems like it is good enough.
shrugs
Honestly, I think most of us try to recruit only really good people because editing one page is different from editing several every week. They gnaw at your brain.
Currently kal- is the one evaluating new editors and he's nicer than everyone else, so you may want to try again.
Here's my "MO":
1 - I check the spoiler pics if / when they come out
2 - I get the LQ RAW when it's released.
3 - I wait for the translation (usually, by Stephen) to understand what it says
4 - I keep checking at those scanlations sites because it's much better to read OP when scanlated then otherwise.
5 - I get the scanlated LQ / HQ version of the scanlated chapter in question
6 - I keep this chapter in my drive until N-U-L-L releases their version of that chapter, at which time, i delete all previous versions i had on my harddrive of that chapter.
7 - repeat, when new chapter is released
Usually, i keep 3-5 episodes NOT from N-U-L-L's scanlation, which is the current distance between their latest (399) and the current latest chapter (404). When they release chapter 400, i'll get it, and delete the other version that i currently have.
That's how i do it, anyway.

Where can I get these stuffs ? I'm a bit noob in downloading manga.. ok, not a bit, more than a bit :D
