First Round Discussion Thread

Hey everyone,

Prelims are over and round one most likely will be starting this weekend. This is your thread to discuss current, past, and upcoming matches in a civil manner! Read the rules thread, but just to state it two main rules I've seen already: no character bashing and no inappropriate images/campaigning (IE: No NSFW images).

The round one matches were pulled by Kitsune Inferno and I over Skype and therefore are posted below for you to take a look at before the round starts, discuss, get a headstart on putting together campaign images, and what have you.

Garp vs Luffy so early on… Garp is a big favorite and Luffy's a straw hat... gonna be one of more intense match ups this round. There's a lot of good ones in round 1. Mr. 3 vs Ace is a personal one for me that will be difficult.

Honestly, though, I think Tashigi's the only one who has a fair shot at making past the first round and I'd be really happy if at least she made it in, considering I nominated her. Hancock gets a lot of flack, so being up against a Straw Hat definitely doesn't help her chances, not to mention Usopp Mansopp is pretty popular here (I like him, too). Then there's Margaret, who only managed to beat Paulie by one vote, being pitted against Sanji, another Straw Hat. I'll need to do some serious brainstorming…

"Harpy Monet" is such an awkward way to put her name. Anyways, a lot of these matches are gonna be frickin' hard. Worst one would be Robin vs Otohime, but I don't see the fun in voting for someone who has already won this tournament.

I foresee excessive use of popcorn.gif in this round.

edit: Wait why was Satori one of those auto-in characters. I'm seriously tempted to support the guy for the hell of it.

There's gonna be a few days before it starts. We'll probably have a few more filler matches before the round starts. It's 3am on Friday for me right now so.. we'll probably start the first match on Mon or Tues.

Also, if anyone has any ideas for filler matches for this year, feel free to message me and we'll consider your idea. An even better way to promote and try and get your idea chosen is by making a match image for it. For instance, the one Hiroy did for the Avengers match is basically a sketch. Something using google images is perfectly fine as well, as long as it has some sort of a layout like a prelim image, for instance!

No. The winners all "move on" to the second round, then we pull names from a hat again like we just did with this round.

It's quite easy, really. Pick a handful of characters you really like and make campaigns for them. Wham-bam thank you ma'am. Sure, they might not make it far.. but that would happen bracket style or not.

Seems like everyone always freaks out over the first round, especially newcomers to the tournament. You have to realize the prelims widdle the characters down quickly to, for instance this time, 64 FAVORITES of the entire series, with 32 match ups. There's gonna be a lot of characters you like matched up against.. other popular characters you most likely like. :)

Alright, that's awesome. Thanks a bunch. I was acting all the time on the assumption that there'd be at least, say, half a week between each round as per the tournament tradition dictates and got worried when you said "this weekend". Got to do something for the upcoming few rounds since I totally missed almost all of the prelims.
