Plus some jokes are much easier to understand in the anime than in the manga.
Gintama Discussion

-
Have the whole series downloaded, major lolz and epicness. Gotta love it.
-
So, I need a Gintama Expert.
I finaly went ahead and watched the Jiraya arc.
! Is the shogun that Hattori's father is disguissed as, supposed to be Sadasada? (the shogun's uncle)
-
Yes. I'm not sure but In the anime Zenzou did mention that it was the previous shogun.
-
It could've been Shigeshige's father…
-
Wow just wow!
New chapter's out and like all the previous ones it's the best chapter ever…
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/05/01/gintama-398/ -
The chapter was so epic.
I can't wait for the final battle. The build up that Sorachi has been doing is just perfect. -
@!Volpe:
The chapter was so epic.
I can't wait for the final battle. The build up that Sorachi has been doing is just perfect.I only hope that it's not the final chapter of this arc.
Because if it's, we can be sure that its continuation won't come before at least 100 chapters from now (saying that after such an epic and tiring to make arc, Hideaki can rest for a whole year…) -
it can't be the end of the arc as it didn't show us yoshiwara or has Sorachi forgotten about the plot point that started all this?
-
This chapter is amazing. Sorachi is good at building up the final fight. Now on to some light heart comedy chapters.
-
The level of storytelling and foreshadowing…
God-like.
-
I'm curious how Katsura will factor into the final conflict. I think it'd be awesome if katsura landed up as the shogun or another leadership position along those lines. If only because I find the idea of Katsura is a high position of power to be absolutely hilarious
-
Yeah it's been a long time since Katsura had a serious role, and it was awesome each time (at least for the short time he managed to stay serious)
However, the situation of Gintoki is exactly like the time with Jirochou. Just like with his sensei, he promised to Otose's husband to protect what he left, including Jirochou who he had to fight with.
This time, the sensei left a bunch of comrades, including Takasugi, more dangerous than Jirochou.
Fight and protect in the same time, it was this dilemna that made the 4 devas arc so great, looking forward to see how Gin will settle it this time.
(We can also expect that he will have to do the same thing with Kamui) -
Anyone know what that 398.1 thing on the online reader is? It's just showing up as a bunch of blank pages for me.
And yaaay. This chapter was nice. I wonder how Katsura's gonna fit in.
Is it too much to hope for Sakamoto to be relevant too?
I'm guessing the next serious arc is gonna be the last.
-
Just ignore that. I can't seem to delete it. I'll figure it out later.
-
Ah!!..sniffles (TT.TT) …an amazing end to this orgamismic tentalating arc. YUM!! I guess its going to go back to regular gag chapters now.
-
Bleeeh. Your post made me think there was a new chapter out.
Then I went to the manga site I normally go on and I saw they uploaded a chapter and I was like ASLKDJALKSJDLKSJ.
But then I saw it was chapter 390 so I was sad.
-
There is a new chapter.
Huh? 390? Im talking about chapter 399 derp :S
-
You didn't say it was. I must've just clicked the wrong thing.
Yaaay new chapter. :D
Assuming it goes straight back to a gag manga, I wonder how long this stretch will last.
-
Another "Best chapter ever!!!"
About the political situation, Katsura definitely will have to take part in the transition if Sorachi follows the history…
-
Say bye to Takasugi, we won't see him again before chapter 500…
And about the transition it should end near chapter 600... -
New chapter is out!
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/05/18/gintama-400/And even thought we are back to gag, I really liked the chapter.
-
Yay, finally back on gag!! I felt like it's been a long time since I last laugh so hard at a Gintama chapter…
-
Didn't get the last joke, was she already married?
-
Yes, she got married. So, the "changed her pen name" means she got her husband last name.
-
After 14 amazing chapters Suzuran - or Keisei? Or Sadasada? Did this arc get any official name? - arc is finally over. Simply brilliant. One Piece aside, I don't think any other Shonen Jack author manages to constantly outdo himself on the same level Sorachi does. Yes, his serious arcs follow the well-known formula, but who cares when its execution has already reached perfection? Touching drama that connects to the reader on a rare level, clear and well established conflict, highly choreographic action - I mean, come on, did you see Gintoki bite that blade! - and even pieces of the trademark humour that is the ultimate spice to the main dish in a serious arc like this. As great as Oboro fight was, I think I like the initial fight with the castle defense forces better - everyone gets to play their part, not only Tsukki and Nobume, but Kagura and Shinpachi as well.
But the real reason I love this arc is that it finally touches upon the plot threads that didn't get any development since - I don't know, Benizakura and Jiraia?
First, we have another piece - and finally, a face - added to the Shouyou flashback, the story of Kansei Purge (I think it was already mentioned it's a reference to the Ansei Purge, right?). Sorachi has never gotten into it in such detail. Quite likely that will be the most revelations we get about it in a long time.
And second, Sorachi finally establishes the Shouyou's students - Tendoshuu confrontation. God knows where this is going and what else Sorachi plans to bring to the table. It is clear how opposite to each other Gintoki and Shinsuke are, but in the end, aren’t Tendoshuu their common enemy? I really liked how they shared the "Give my regards to sensei for me" line.
Also, it makes me like Baragaki arc even more that it introduced Mimawarigumi and Nobume and made Gintoki admit his past Shiroyasha name - which this arc uses to build upon and move the plot further. The three Feathers of Naraku - with Nobume close to Takasugi and Oboro already pitted against Gintoki, I wonder if the third feather is tailing Katsura. On our hands we have another Joui War in the making - and the teasers of Tendoshuu fall are just too delicious.Anyway, for now we are back to the lighter gag routine. I hope there will be some Hasegawa chapters. It has been a long time since Madaodog Madaonaire.

new chapter is out [http://www.mangareader.net/gintama/401
l](http://www.mangareader.net/gintama/401)ol at katsura. I wonder if he is actually in that game somewhere
-
And for those of us that can't use Mangareader: http://www.mangaeden.com/en-manga/gintama/401/1/
It's a nice chapter. I'm surprised Sorachi's using Sadaharu for once. I figured he was just phasing him out of the manga entirely (like that time he didn't appear at all for like 200 chapters).

Oh man,i just got done watching my gintama blue ray movie that i got from Amazon. And i must say :I LOVED THE ENGLISH VOICE CAST. Shinpachi took some getting used to cause he was annoying (then again this is shinpachi were talking about),kagura being the best voiced IMO. And at the end of the movie, which suprised me the most, they go ahead and show most of the cast even though they didn't have a part in the movie.
I really hope sentai is still considering dubbing gintama(with a seperate track for the original Japanese of course, for those that are a fan of that one),because after getting a taste of the cast in the movie, i just can't get enough. Heck ill even re-buy the previous sets from the beginning.
Sorry to gush here but i was really suprised with his well it was done. When you can, please buy this movie, and the sets too. Even if you don't like the English cast, the Japanese cast is always a click away.
-
wait hold on. theres an english dub of gintama? since when
-
Sentai dubbed the Benizakura movie
-
oh wow. Does anyone know if the regular dvd version is region free? It says on amazon.co.uk that the blu-ray is region 1 but doesn't specify on the regular. I want to make sure before i buy
-

The movie release was literally yesterday when I got mine. It's pretty much a one shot thing to test the waters.and in case your wondering, yes the cultural jokes are kept in. Only one of them got a rewrite, and it's rewritten well enough so you wouldn't notice if you didn't know where to look for it.
To bad gintama's too cultural to actually dub. I say this because they mentioned if this sells well they would think about dubbing the series too. It would be difficult but I would still pay to see it,with the anime in hiatus,it would breath new life on the anime IMO. In any case I enjoyed the dubbed movie.
For the cast I would say out of the best acted was definitely kagura(voiced by luci Christian,no suprise). After that there's katsura, takasugi, gin, otae and takeshi i think is his name (the so called feminist). And from the comedy skit at the end, sakamoto, even if it was just for a couple of lines.

New chapter's up: http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/05/31/gintama-402/

it won't. For now it appears that was the last season. Maybe it'll get recalled but not anytime soon

You did? I really wasn't that much of a fan. Kagura's VA did a splendid job and was perfect, but Shinpachi and Gintoki, I did not enjoy listening to. I'm not sure if it was a thing that I've watched the anime so much I can't imagine anyone but Tomokazu Sugita voicing Gintoki but I just couldn't get behind it. Shinpachi, I know he's meant to be the straight one who is always shouting about the jokes and stuff but it just sounded awkward.
I felt the rest of the cast were alright and worked well, maybe not Kondo as much who sounded too gruff I think, but yeah. Gintoki's and Shinpachi's I just didn't like so I couldn't finish the movie.
-
Wait, the fish were poisoned? it was a fish eye? it was medicine? someone was poisoning the owner of the dog? I didn't get that panel.
-
! The fish were poisoned by Sakata-san, thus poisoning the puppy. Meanwhile, Sadaharu was suffering from malnutrition due to eating only fish tails and leaving the rest of the fish for the puppy (so Sadaharu wasn't poisoned).
Sakata-san remarked that his pet (Sadaharu) was a good dog for doing what the master (Sakata-san) wished for (poisoning the puppy). Of course, Sadaharu didn't mean to poison the puppy. Sakata-san was just being Sakata-san. -
It won't restart? I'm pretty sure someone said the series would only be put on a hold.
-
This post is deleted!
-
Gin tricked the women in the neighborhood into thinking that he had used his dog to poison the puppy in order to get paid by planting poison in the fish's eyes. But it turned out to be medicine and the puppy was still alive and healthy. He didn't tell Sadaharu the truth about that until the end.
And the anime is going to continue. They clearly already animated the Kintama episodes, as they showed in the preview to the second to last episode.
Gintama's DVDs sell really well and it gets good ratings. The anime stopped because it ran out of stock in the manga. They were literally releasing episodes that had come out in Shounen Jump less than 2 months previous by the end. It'll probably start again next year. -
I wonder if doing anime in seasons will become a trend for shonen manga.
I know Naruto and One Piece aren't gonna stop being weekley, but it'd be nice if more anime didn't straight-up end when the anime got too close to the manga.
-
Yeah, the season system is the best. I love Gintama for that, they don't need to scretch unnecessary parts or put fillers.
-
Speaking of the anime seasons, I've been catching up on Gintama for so long now and am now finally hitting the most recent season.
Why were those 'timeskip' episodes ssssoooo good?
-
I as well am quite certain the anime is gonna continue, I just hope they don't forget to animate the toyako chapter because it was in the 2011 trailer but didn't get to the actual series.
-
@!Volpe:

I'd rather for it to be one week yes one no, mixed with another adaptation, 26 episodes per year, for 46 chapters per year, it would be harder to catch up even in 2x1.

Its fine if you didn't like it. But I honestly think you should have finished it. I wasnt digging it at first, and was tempted to switch to the subs, but I just wanted to give a fair assessment of it. And was generally pleased with what I got,if anything the first bit of the movie was akward, but picks up really well and quickly.
I can empathize with the whole liking a certain voice because we've heard it for so long. It's natural to form a bias.
Anyways I do hope they still consider trying to do a dub for the series as well. Because sadly a movie just doesn't give the VA's enough time to get into their charecters.
And after seeing that bit at the end where they fight about who Is going to be in the sequel,I said to myself "OK I have to see what else these guys can do with this"

Well the way I watched it was via a livestream, I had to leave the room for a bit, came back and had lost my place. I just decided to switch it off then as I wasn't too bothered by it all. That spoke volumes to me myself, just wasn't bothered to keep watching.
I can say it was only Gintoki that I formed a bias for, it doesn't help that Sugita's voice is so distinctive that this guy just came across a bit, bland almost.
I may end up watching it again some day but I'm in no rush, the sub suits me perfectly. Was fine that you enjoyed it though of course though.

All cool. :D
I just care if people buy the product at all. And yes their are 2 tracks on the disc,English and Japanese. (I say this because in this day and age, people just don't know that,or bother to research it)
Sentai mentions this is gintama's chance to get more seasons licensed, depending how well the movie sells overall.

New chapter is out:
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/06/18/gintama-403/! The new character is a lot like Kagura's father but it seems he won't stay long, it will very likely end tragically in my view
