A simple cinematic trailer to hype the fans is not hard to produce. All you need is the original four and a few new characters which probably have been decided (I'm sure after Brawl Sakurai had a few character he wanted include but just didn't - not counting those that were found on the disc).
Super Smash Bros

Sakurai says change is coming to Smash Bros. and with what we know I think we can all believe that.
-
So, anyone else hoping Shulk gets in? Monolith Soft is first party so he has a shot
-
My one hope is that they don't do something to the game that necessitates having both a 3DS and a WiiU, because given my current economic situation I don't think I could afford buying games for both systems, or even buying a WiiU.
-
By sounds of it, if development is JUST starting, so we probably won't be seeing this game until sometime like late 2014, and that's being generous.
-
im hoping they release info once every week like they did with brawl, gave everyone something to look foward to every week.
-
i kinda do and kinda don't. While i'm sure all the unlockables will be spoilt for us before release, one of the big things i liked about Kid icarus uprising was the surprise of there being 3x as much story content as i thought. However with brawl i already knew everything upon release. Although i did enjoy checking the dojo everyday.
I'm currently thinking on 2 things for this game. If the game focuses on customization then having multiple specials that you can change in order to make each character your own. And replacing sheik with Impa. It would be silly to make a skyward sword sheik when impa could easily take the spot
-
I hope the changes aren't all too big.

This was posted in the Nintendo thread by GuetaMinute but I'm going to post it here for it is more suited for this thread
All I have to say is FREAKIN SWEET!
-
From the other thread:
This is extremely exciting but highly suspect. Instead of expand under the post it should say view conversation. Not to mention I am waiting on reports of Japanese fan sites to go nuts. I would imagine at the very least a handful of people in Japan saw this and could vouch for hit. So right now I am just going to presume fake. -
The guy admitted it being fake.
-
Seemed like a scheme to get people to join their forum.
How sad.
-
aw man well that sucks. He will probably get some backlash from that
-
I'm assuming the fake (deleted) post was confirming Isaac Geno and Megaman?
-
No, only Isaac and Megaman.
To be exact, it stated only 2 of those 3 characters would be included.
But yeah, it's fake. Sorry guys.

Well it's in the first step of developement.
-
I approve of this. I'd love to see Mewtwo, Young Link, and Roy back
-
C3: : You have mentioned how you like to breathe new life into forgotten franchises. Now that Kid Icarus has been completed, what other old classic would you like to look at? Ice Climbers, Star Tropics, MoleMania…or something non-Nintendo?
Sakurai-san: I am planning on doing my best to bring old characters back in Smash Bros. From that perspective, I am probably in the most fortunate position in the world.
From the context of the question, he talks about old characters, not the characters taken out of brawl. Semantics don't aply as the interview was most likely in japanesse, those details on the lenguage could get lost.

Aww man…. well that sucks.
-
Aww man…. well that sucks.
Disagree. As shown by Kid Icarus, Nintendo could benefit from renewing long forgotten franchises instead of relying exclusively on the combo of Mario-Zelda-Metroid.
Sure, I'd love Mewtwo, but I wouldn't mind seeing new characters we hadn't thought of before. (also, in my opinion, young link and roy should NOT be back. First, because Roy was a clone and we need less of those, and second, because he's one of the lamest lords in the Fire Emblem series. As for young link, I'm fine with just one good Link)
-
Due to Mewtwo getting a signature move fifth genration as oppose to the genrations pervious, which was likely a plot to shake up his popularity a bit, I think he is likely to return. Majora's mask Link transformation on a Young Link move set would be amazing. His taunt could be that ghost mask guy's dance.
-
that is so killer its amazing i love super smash
-
Err…..Any particular reason you'd like to see Young Link back? Toon Link is essentially his replacement except with an actual identity. Plus, they don't need to get saddled down with too many similar characters from the same universe. I still think they should get rid of Wolf in the sequel if it makes room for someone else.

Yeah actually it would be cool for them to bring him back but using masks from Majora's Mask (he'd be like pokemon trainer in a way).
-
I think the unfortunate thing is that Smash Bros. has instilled the fact that the only existing Link is Adult Link. Which is really unfair because there only exist three major Zelda games where Link is that of an adult. The vast majority of Zelda games has him as a child or far younger than Adult Link. Why do those versions get the negligence? Granted, SSB1 and Melee had Ocarina of Time Link, Brawl had Twilight Princess Link, and SSB4 will probably have Skyward Sword Link. Those were chosen because those were the Links that were popular and available at the time.
At the same time, this is why Majora Mask fans feel so neglected sometimes. Having a Young Link with the various usable masks would provide a unique character, rather than having a second, shorter Link with a very similar moveset. And don't say that there is no difference between Link as an adult and Link as a child. There is a far greater different between a young child being forced to pick up a sword to fight evil, and late teen or early adult being forced to pick up a sword.
-
A young link with majora's mask transformations would be cool but we don't need 3 links in this game and i think toon link is a good choice as he represents the handheld zeldas.
If we're talking about old franchises returning i'd love to see takamaru and balloon fighter/alice to re-appear. Maybe with their appearances in nintendoland theres a good chance. Should we count little mac as an old franchise? Cause he technically had a game about 4 years ago. It's like kid icarus but not as much of a showing
-

Nah, I was much more hoping for: Link and Majora's Mask Link. Young/Toon Link isn't necessary (although Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda).
-
I like the trend of an Adult Link and a Toon Link being counterparts, in essence representing the console and handheld sides of Zelda. It serves really well to make the two versions distinct.
I'd imagine this time around that adult Link would be modeled after his Skyward Sword incarnation. No telling whether or not Toon Link would return, since we don't know for sure what will come of Zelda on the 3DS between now and then. But even if it just ends up being Toon Link, there's no reason he couldn't be given some Majora's Mask… masks, especially if the MM 3DS remake ends up happening around the same time as or even before SSB4.
-
I don't really think they'll change the way Young/Toon Link fights. Maybe change him back to his OOT design because of OOT 3D and the possible MM 3D, but I hope not. I like Toon Link.

Four actually. He was 16 in Zelda II.
-
Skyward Sword Link is young enough. My issue is that there's many great characters from other franchises and while Zelda is great, it's always a bit disappointing when it always goes back to zelda as if Nintendo made no other good games. Regardless of the universe, Link is Link is Link. If you want to really have Zelda diversity, add Groose, because then at least you have a recent Zelda character that's truly unique. Heck, even Ghirahim, even though he's not as likable. One Link is enough.
Same problem with the star fox series. As much as I love wolf (one of my mains), why not add some diversity? Krystal, even though a not so popular character, would at least include a different weapon (staff) and diversify gameplay a little. This is why that comment of old characters is great, because while the megaton franchises are great, these games are a celebration of all things nintendo, and introducing new franchises through it freshens things up.

id much rather have mewtwo than lucario any day.
-
I don't know if they would take out Lucario for Mewtwo or not, since that means there would only be 1st gen pokemon as playable.
-
Somehow I really, really don't want to see Zoroark as a playable character.
How about Pikachu as is standard, Mewtwo makes a triumphant return, and then we've got an updated Pokemon Trainer using some mix of the Unova starters?
-
From Japan's nintendo direct, Namco Bandai is helping Sakurai to make this. Wonder if that'll lead to any third party characters from there
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, considering that Namco Bandai has the rights for One Piece games and this is a one piece forum, I'm going to go ahead and shoot down the idea of Lufy in Smash bros before it rears its head since I doubt Sakurai would be ok with that

Sakurai and Kobayashi's message.
Masahiro Sakurai
Hello, I'm Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series.
It's my personal belief that the only time a creative product really resonates is in that first moment when it's actually in front of you.
With that said, I've realized that if we keep the new Super Smash Bros. title's development structure secret, it'll only create more and more speculation, and I won't be able to develop the game with any freedom. That's why I've decided to announce this news right now, even though it's still very early on.
I would love to provide more information, but for now, I'm going to stay quiet until I have something solid to show you.
The project has just gotten started. Bear in mind that not only are we developing two titles simultaneously, but we announced the project before we even started actual development, so I'm afraid we will likely have to keep you waiting for quite a while. Please be patient.
Currently, the prototype prepared by NAMCO BANDAI Games and NAMCO BANDAI Studios' special team looks pretty good, and it's working great. In order to take advantage of the fact that there will be versions for two different systems, and to maximize and offer fun new gameplay elements, the entire team is going to work hard together. Thank you.

Masaya Kobayashi
Hello, everyone. I'm Masaya Kobayashi of NAMCO BANDAI Studios. I'm so honored to be able to join the Smash Bros. team--that globally popular series of which Japan is particularly proud—and to work alongside of Mr. Sakurai.
In order to make Mr. Sakurai proud, we will take on this project with NAMCO BANDAI's best staff! Yoshito Higuchi, the producer and the director of the "Tales" series, Tetsuya Akatsuka, producer and director of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs.," the art director/sound director of the "SoulCalibur" series, the main development team staff from the "TEKKEN" series…and that's just for starters. All the top creators from NAMCO BANDAI are gathered here to create a never-before-seen dream team for this project. We will fully utilize our experience and knowledge in action/fighting game development, technical capability, and organizational strength, and we hereby promise you that we will develop the best and most powerful "Super Smash Bros." title ever! Don't miss it!

This is going to be epic. I think not only will we get a great random, balls to the wall, party game, but a great 1vs1 tourny style game as well. It's going to play like Smash for sure, but these Tekken guys will have a thing or 2 to say about balance and such.

This. Sakurai hasn't been the best in terms of balancing gameplay, so seeing people from fighting games like Tekken is bound to give Smash a respectable chance of being more balanced and considered a true fighting game.
My one hope is that they don't start pushing in too many Namco Bandai characters and keep it mostly Nintendo. Although I do wish they get downloadable content
AaronRules: seeing Luffy in Smash Bros. … not sure if that's brilliant, or mad. Also not sure if I'd like it, love it, or hate it. :/
-
so which namco bandai character are we gonna get. I pinned my 3rd party support on mega man but with this reveal i thinks it 100% we will get a namco character. Doesn't mean we can't get two 3rd parties but my prediction was one. Will it be a soul calibur or tekken character? Klonoa or Pac-man? Tales of character or Katamari Damacy (lololol)
-
N… Namco... T... Tekken... Developers... Smash... SMASH BROS 4! This could be Godly...
Just, Tekken guys, Convince Sakurai to make Tripping a turn-off-able feature... please..
-
or remove it all together
-
I just don't get it. I mean, ok Sakurai, I understand, bad players want to have fun even when pros are playing. It's also a party game, we get it, cool, Tripping evens the playing field. Fine.
But why the hell did you not make the option toggle-able like EVERY OTHER OPTION IN YOUR MOTHER FUCKING GAME?! I can COMPLETELY Customize my controls, I can make every button jump if I want. I can not only control the frequency of the item drops, but toggle each individual item. You have the most custmoizable options menu of any game I've ever played. Why the fuck can't I turn off the one terrible option??

On that note, an item switch specifically for pokeballs wouldn't hurt. I want to be able to have a match with just legendary pokemon! Also, I only saw Manaphy one time in my 3-4 years with Brawl, would have liked to fix that.
-
If they brought in Mike Jones from Startropics, I might have to save up a year and buy a Wii U just to play Smash Bros.
Just try and get this theme out of your head:
!

Omg i cant wait i cant wait and yes it sounds like this is going to be a godly game!

Same for assist trophies. I think it would be a very good idea.
They should also bring back the lottery or something similar. I hated wasting 800 coins and getting no new trophies and stickers
