I'm very much looking forward to this game, especially since San Andreas is my favorite GTA. Hopefully we do see at least one or two cameos in the game (seeing Rosie and Kent in SA was awesome)…

Christmas time release date hinted.

I find it funny that you keep posting links to a Nintendo site for GTA news. But carry on :ninja: .
-
^ Given how Nintendo fanboys shat their bricks over the last GTA games not being released on any Nintendo platform (under some BS belief that Take-Two doesn't like Nintendo) if GTA 5 did come to the Wii U I know it would please them.
-
I find it funny that you keep posting links to a Nintendo site for GTA news. But carry on :ninja: .
Yeah I noticed that too. perhaps there is possibility of it being released oin Wii U.
-
Christmas huh? then they better get off their asses and start the marketing train soon if they wanna take on the inevitable CoD storm.
Im betting on a spring of 2013 release.
-

Has it been said whether it's being developed for this gen or next gen? Because the Wii U is just slightly above what this gen was capable of so if it's being developed for next gen then it's kind of doubtful. And really, would anyone buy it on the Wii U? I can't imagine myself (so I suppose this is personal opinion) buying a GTA game for a Nintendo console. Have any besides that DS game ever been released for a Nintendo console anyway?
Im betting on a spring of 2013 release.
And Spring 2015 release for the PC version  .

Not really necessary. More adults play Gta and the fact they really arent the same genre of game can be taken into account.
-
Yeah, there's really no point in trying to market it against CoD like Gia Sado said.
-
It's only really the weekend that accompanies Call of Duty they may need to be wary of. And even then I think it'll do just fine. Plenty of other games like Skyrim, Zelda, Mario 3D Land and Uncharted were released around the same time as CoD last year and did just fine.
-
It's out!
It looks nearly photorealistic. Holy shit. -
And Spring 2015 release for the PC version  .
Oh you!
@Gia:
Not really necessary. More adults play Gta and the fact they really arent the same genre of game can be taken into account.
Yeah, there's really no point in trying to market it against CoD like Gia Sado said.
Actually it is important.
My point was if they decide to release it Christmas season, they NEED to market the shit out of it because it WILL still be in DIRECT competition with the inevitable CoD game that will dominate sales. Just cause it's a different game doesn't mean it won't be competing in sales. More kids getting CoD for Christmas means less money for Rockstar. A game company doesn't just want fans to buy their game… they want EVERYONE to buy their game.
And don't get me wrong... if there is anyone... ANYONE, who could take on CoD's sales numbers... it's GTA V. A return to san fucking andreas none the less. But I still think they should release it in the spring around tax season and DOMINATE.
Why do you think Mass Effect was pushed back to spring? I'm sure there are more reasons to it... but you can't deny them being strategic by not releasing it in the clusterfuck of a release month that was last November.

It's not just about doing, "just fine"… it's about money. More= better.

GTA V reportedly has a Autumn 2012 release window
-
http://mynintendonews.com/2012/03/25/massive-grand-theft-auto-v-leak-from-rockstar-employee/
May have a massive info leak consisting of the following.
- The protagonist will be one character, and one character alone. His name is (as some rumours said) Albert De Silva. He’s a half hispanic man who was once part of a crime family in Vice City. He decided to settle down and have kids in Los Santos. He has one son called Kevin De Silva who is your stereotypical CoD player. He’s lazy, useless and shouts racial abuse online and is really into FPS games. Kevin does admire his Dad though.
- Multiplayer will hold 32 people on the Xbox and PS3. I wasn’t told how many were able to be on the PC. Just like in RDR, players will be able to form Gangs. These gangs are not ranked through XP anymore, but via Reputation. Instead of gang hideouts, you can do jobs that range from robbing a launderette to breaking into a military base and stealing state-of-the-art weaponary. The Gang leader has much more control over his or her gang by being able to rank members of their gang and setting more specific objectives to specific members of their gang. Gangs can have their own terratory but this only applies to areas inside the city of Los Santos.
- The map is about 5x as large as the GTA IV map and the City of Los Santos takes up just under half of this area (so it’s a bit bigger than 2 GTA IV Liberty Cities).
- The map is (like most GTAs) seperated into three different sections. 4. Planes are flyable, they range from World War 2 fighter planes to Private Jets.
- Cars and guns are customisable to an extent, for example, you can cusomise a gun to have a supressor on it and you can install nitrous into cars.
- 1. The protagonist is the “rich guy” from the GTA V debut trailer. You get to learn more about this man in the second when he talks about his troubles. You only see the protagonist twice in the trailer. First time is the side of his face and second time is when he is driving a Deceptor (Audi R8). The people robbing the jewellery store are just with the protagonist. He is driving the van ready to get away.
- Gunfights are more realistic. When you are shooting a gun out of a window of a car, depending on how fast it’s going you will have troubles aiming due to shaking cameras.
- The game is due in May 2013. A more specific date has not been decided because the game is still needing 6 months to be fully developed. They will have a playable demo at E3.
- Police chases are now way more than either running or driving. Depending on how wanted you are, police may bring out riot shields and flash bangs. 5. When someone reaches 4 star wanted level, there will be a radio warning on some stations.
- Radio stations now do traffic reports that are actually correct. So if you don’t know what route to take, you can check the traffic reports on your phone or the radio. 7. The in-game TV now has many more channels
-
! The protagonist DOES NOT die unlike in the last two Rockstar games. View number 11 at own risk
- The underworld actually has a working economy that you can contribute too by buying and selling drugs, weapons and illegal cars in single player.
- The protagonist can take drugs which will have some effects. But smoking weed on the streetwalk will lead to getting a one star wanted level.
- Police cars will go after you if you’re obviousely breaking the speed limit. Having high speed crashes will also damage your health
I think a lot of this is amazing if it's true.
-
11 should be spoiler tag'd if true.
14 makes me doubt the whole article since I doubt the devs would implement that now, and it sounds more like a pain than anything people would like. -
You're right about 11 I fixed it

Incoming: Massive rumors leaked by supposed ex-intern at Rockstar
[http://www.dualshocknexus.com/2012/04/massive-rumor-ex-rockstar-intern-leaks.html
L](http://www.dualshocknexus.com/2012/04/massive-rumor-ex-rockstar-intern-leaks.html)ong read, but I recommend it
-
I'm really skeptical, if only because a person would have to be reeaaallly fucking stupid to not remain anonymous when leaking the info. Either this'll turn out to be BS and we go on about our day, or it turns out real and a poor fool gets his ass handed to him in court.
-
I really hope these rumors are true because they sound amazing. I suppose that if it is real then, this guy is an idiot because, like you said Buuhan, he could almost certainly be sued into the ground by Rockstar. From his story it seemed like his intention all along was to learn as much as he could about the game and I guess he decided to leak it, thinking the only retaliation might be that he be fired. Like I said though, I hope this is true and don't really feel sorry for the guy at all.
-
I hope it is real ohhhhh do I hope it is real.
-
You know, I'm still waiting for the backlash that happens every time Rockstar releases a game. Though come to think about it I haven't really heard anything since Bully was released. Was there much protesting against RDR or GTAIV (I know New York was kind of mad that the game was set in a recreation of their city)?
-
After GTA 3 came out, there was rumors of Sasquatch in the woods between the 3 cities. I wonder if they ever really did put him in one of these games…

After GTA 3 came out, there was rumors of Sasquatch in the woods between the 3 cities. I wonder if they ever really did put him in one of these games…
They did. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. The sasquatch legend cropped up again in the basic RDR game after someone posted an image. So they finally added a side-mission around them in RDR: UN despite the fact the story focused on zombies.
-
Bears were all the sasquatch that game needed
My god were hunting those satisfying.
RDR is one of the only games where I naturally played my way towards a 100% and almost got there just fluidly without going "hey is THIS a trophy??"

http://gta5news.com/gta-5-resume-leaked-october-2012-release-date
Supposed release date of October of this year. That's much earlier than I expected and hope it's true. That'll be around the same time as Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.

^ Rockstar loves releasing GTA games in October.

Haha, I just looked it up and most of the GTA games have been released in October. Well here's hoping.
-
A new question and answer with Rockstar, part of which deals with GTAV.
“What is going on with GTAV?” – received via Mouthoff
We are very busy working on the game! Everything is going well, but the game is a huge project. We should have more information and some new assets for you soon.
“Why don’t you give us more news?” – received via Mouthoff
As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans' 'don’t respect our fans’ 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you… it’s not much, but we thought it was pretty fun.
“Hey guys hope everything is good over there in Rockstar. Just a question referring to GTA 4, the game was brilliant and I really enjoyed and still do, but what disappointed me was the lack of planes and jets… Can you tell me why you didn't include them, I'm sure you have a very valid reason?” – via Mouthoff
The city was simply too small for effective and enjoyable flying. It was the first time we made a high definition open world, and it was a massive amount of work to make something on that scale – we simply could not make an environment big enough for planes to work properly. Fear not, they are returning in what is our biggest open world game to date.
And two new screenshots
Not trying to judge the game by some screenshots, but a modded GTAIV looks better than these.
[hide][/hide]The trailer did look good in motion though.
-
They look about the same…in my opinion.
-
Even if it does look just a bit better than GTAIV, it's still going to be fun as hell. The map is larger than RDR and there's going to be so much more stuff to do.
-
I hope it'll be more akin to GTA: San Andreas, and not GTA IV (and I don't mean the setting)…
-
I don't understand people's problem with GTAIV. It was on the whole more serious than the previous games but it's much more fun to play for me at least. I've been replaying San Andreas recently and just everything about it is outdated it's not even funny. It's still fun but I prefer actually having good car handling and people reacting to getting shot.
-
For starters, the missions are boring when compared to those in San Andreas. Most of them consisted of "go here, kill this person," and most of them had you drive clear across the map to your target. GTA IV made driving so tedious that, unless the map marker is in the same borough I'm currently in, I just hail a taxi to drive me to the destination (and not one of Roman's, either).
Another thing I dislike is how bad motorcycles got butchered. In San Andreas, if you had your motorcycle skill maxed out, the only way you'd fly off one is if you got into a front-end collision while going at full speed. In IV, however, one minor bump at a moderate speed sends Niko soaring a few feet and into the pavement, which sucks, because I loved riding motorcycles in SA. Speaking of skills, it sucks that the schools to improve them weren't available in this game.
Then there's the fact that you amass a large quantity of money, but have nothing to spend it on. I'm drowning in cash right now, and the only things I have to spend it on are ammo and taxi fares. In SA you had property, clothing, pimping out cars and tattoos to spend money on. Sure, those are all frivolous things to spend money on, but at least it's something. There's also the forgettable supporting characters, with only Roman, Packie and Brucie (before he gets all annoying about you not calling him) making an impact on me. I'll leave it at that, though, since this is getting a little too long. Fortunately, I've heard that the DLC missions are a bit more amusing, so hopefully those (I'm playing the Complete Edition) will cure at least some of my woes…
Oh, and I replayed San Andreas to 100% a few months back (and had a blast), so it's not like I'm letting nostalgia cloud my vision. GTA IV is a good game, but, in my opinion, San Andreas is better in every department, except aesthetics...
-
You can buy clothes in GTAIV, but yeah, other than that that point is right. I don't think any GTA mission has ever not been a fetch quest or assassination. In SA you had burglaries or that get the producer's paper or get the radio van but those are all fetch quests. You did have the schools but I think those being mandatory to progress is stupid. And how could you not like the driving in IV? It's so fun. And try not to run into stuff with the motorcycles and you won't fall off :ninja: .
-
I think the main character of GTAIV is the best, most relatable character. But…I agree with the mechanics aspect, of the old GTA's being better.
-
Running people over isn't even satisfying because everyone collapses under your car in the exact same way. The cars feel really off as well. I hope there's another toy helicopter mission in GTAV so it will bring back all the wonderful memory of those past games :sideways: .
-
I agree with Sako, I felt the basic mechanics of GTA4 were a huge improvement over past games. Things like driving cars, shooting and using cover, the animations, and so forth. Piloting the helicopters notwithstanding. Hopefully the next GTA game will include all the bells and whistles we were used to, but I really do think the core game improved substantially with 4.
-
Sure, you can buy clothing in IV… it's too bad the clothes that you can buy are either ugly or suits. There's no variety like in San Andreas, where you had hats (and not just two of them), glasses, chains and watches, in addition to three different clothing stores to choose from with plenty of variety. And yes, the mission formulas are the same, but it's about the execution. For example, would you rather fetch drugs from some highly-guarded area or a jet pack? I know I'll take the jet pack over drugs any day.
And yes, driving is fun and the cars look great, but it becomes less fun when your surroundings are all gray and look pretty much the same. In SA, there was more variety to the scenery, which made driving a lot more fun. And I'm not going to bother driving motorcycles when driving a car assures me that I won't fly off with every little bump in the road or misplaced civilian or crappy driver. Also, the only mandatory missions that bug me are racing missions. I'll give you this, though, the mandatory racing missions in San Andreas were horrendous, especially since they involved driving a sports car in mountainous terrain.
Regarding the protagonists: Niko is likable, but he's no Carl "CJ" Johnson...
-
Maybe it's that because I have my version modded the environment looks pretty good. I just can't imagine taking a taxi everywhere in a game titled "Grand Theft Auto". There's supposedly a lot of stuff to buy in GTAV and most things are priced closer to what they would be irl. I have a feeling that IV is going to feel like a tech and mechanics demo to V when it comes out.
-
The toy helicopter missions in San Andreas hurt my balls. I wanted to choke that guy.
See, for me, it seems that they are taking the freedom and scope of San Andreas and combining it with the detail that came with IV.
Or at least, that would be the most logical next step. And smartest.San Andreas was a great game to fuck around with. It's strongest plot points hit in the beginning with the Boys In the Hood feel. Especially despite how far up the food chain Carl got, and how much money and wealth he achieved, he was still harassed by corrupt street level cops… the heart of the game was the hood aesthetic. I honestly wish they'd have spent a little more time with that. I felt that later parts of the game were uninspired and sorta forced... but then again I was flying planes, jetpacks, spraying tags, collecting cars, and just too busy to really be hung up on that.... oh and listening to Toots and the Maytals "Pressure Drop" on K-JAH whenever POSSIBLE. By the time i'd done about everything, I was using the jet-motorcycle to jump hills in the desert and do flips. Good times.
GTAIV was cool in a detailed way. A grounded sort of way. I feel the missions were about as predictable as past entries, but there was more layers to them. The sniper mission where you had to lure the guy in his apartment to the window was pretty well done (I seem to remember being about to shoot his satellite dish to make him walk to the TV, or zooming in on his cell phone number on his desk and calling him). I wish there was more detail to the missions like that. The challenge of these shoot-drive-run-fight games is to use these simple mechanics along with the city itself, in the most creative ways. Which is something I think rockstar is fairly good at. Writing an engrossing story is key as well. Something to keep driving the player.
Then again GTA is the most successful when it's trying something new. When it's letting the player do something new. Something he cannot do in real life.
I would like for GTAV to give me:
-A lot of shit to spend money on.
-maybe... just maybe the use of gas. (for at least just the cars and bikes).
-the return of bicycles.
-selling drugs. Different kinds. Perhaps more of a separate mini-game or something.
-the right balance of seriousness with tongue-and-cheek... always and forever the heart of a GTA game.
....i'll try to think of more later. -
I don't know if it was a "leak" or not but I recall something about selling drugs in GTAV. I think it's the same place I heard that there was going to be a lot of things to spend money on and those things will have close price tags to real life. I liked in IV how you could call 911 and a cop/firetruck/ambulance would show up where you were and all the little details like you said. I was walking around just yesterday in the game and walked passed a homeless guy. He followed me for a few steps and started asking for money. If you punch someone and then have them punch you in front of a cop the cop will pull his gun and lead the guy to the nearest police car to be taken away. I hope that kind of stuff stays in V because it makes the world really feel alive.
Edit: I also saw this recently:
And now that I watch it again, is it the cop's bullet that it's hitting? -
Yeah, the Euphoria engine is the godsend to all rockstar games.
Dynamic city life is a definite. I would just love walking around doing whatever.
-
The Euphoria thing is just the animation engine, which generates animations dynamically. The actual engine is called RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine). But yeah, yesterday I went to a construction site and pushed a construction worker off the second floor. He started chasing me and I found a cop and when he punched me he was arrested. I then went on to push some people down stairs and then into traffic .
Edit: Here's another
-
Here I thought the RC helicopter mission that people were referring to was the demolition one from Vice City given to you by Avery. You know, the one where you have to use the RC heli to plant bombs on top of explosive barrels in that unfinished building, all while avoiding the guards and minding the timer. Yeah, that one sucked. Now, if you're referring to Zero's mission, where you have to take out Berkley's vans with the RC Baron, then I agree, it was lame. I especially hated how the fuel for the plane didn't stop decreasing after you'd managed to blow up all the vans, because it led to me running out of fuel right before reaching the finish line (at least twice, too).
Also, here's a good example of how San Andreas handled a mission, one that was present in both games, better:
! The third-to-last mission in GTA IV (revenge ending), involves you storming a boat in a harbor to finally kill that bastard Dimitri. The mission is very straightforward, with Niko storming the ship, guns blazing, and cornering Dimitri in the cargo hold and killing him with no challenge. Seriously, Dimitri doesn't put up any kind of fight once his goons are down, he just stands there and waits for you to shoot him dead. Meanwhile, in San Andreas, you're charged with infiltrating a ship that's out in San Fierro bay in order to plant a bug for Woozie. This mission is played under the cover of night and involves stealth, which means you can complete the entire thing without firing a single round or (to make it easier), just kill the flunkies with your silenced pistol. Then there's the second mission involving that ship, where you storm it in order to free some Vietnamese refugees from the cargo bay. This one involves a boss fight, except this old man doesn't lay down and die once his flunkies are down. Once you reach the bridge where the old man is, he hands you a katana and you have to fight him to the death, which is way more awesome than just planting a bullet in a guy's skull (especially when he just stands there and lets you do it).Anyway, here's what I'd like to see in GTA V (some may overlap with Gekko's):
-Things to spend money on (clothing, property, etc.).
-The return of schools (but not having them be mandatory).
-The return of character customization (I've seen a few CJ screenshots, and none of them look like mine).
-The return of car customization (paint jobs, rims, nitrous, hydraulics, applying convertible tops, et cetera).
-Wackier missions.
-A friend/girlfriend system where you call them.
-More memorable supporting characters/past character cameos and/or references.
-No more mandatory races. Seriously, there's nothing in these games I hate more than mission-related races.
-Fix the crappy motorcycle physics from IV (though this one ties into the return of schools).
-The return of local multi-player (my friend and I had a blast terrorizing the populace in SA).
-The return of weapon handling skills and bonuses.
-The return of weapons spawning in/near your safehouses.
-The return of the bonuses granted by side-missions (more armor, health and infinite stamina). Fuck trophies, give me something I can use.
-Weapon customizations (like silencers, larger clips, explosive rounds, et cetera).I'll leave it at that for now, since the list is getting pretty long. I can't wait to hear more about this game and I hope it'll be better than IV in every aspect…
-
I don't want any physical things like getting fat and stuff back. I hated that stuff in SA. Skills are find but I didn't like that. You can't call the girlfriends in GTAIV? I never really did any of that because I wanted to just play the game but that's weird if you couldn't. I think The Lost and the Damned fixed the motorcycles. I don't remember falling off at all in that game. You also do get at least one weapon spawned at your base in TLatD and you can call a weapon van at any time to buy things from. In The Ballad of Gay Tony there was a shotgun with explosive rounds but it was a separate weapon.
So yeah, skills, cars, and weapon customization but I don't want that stupid weight gaining thing back. I really don't want it to get too RPG-y. Other than that your list looks good.
-
Personally, I never found it troublesome to maintain CJ's appearance in SA. Once the muscles were maxed out, it was pretty much impossible to get fat unless you ate way too much. Losing musculature was more prevalent, but that was easily resolved by eating at least one meal every in-game day.
Yes, you can call your girlfriends/friends, but what I meant is that I want Rockstar to make it so that they don't call you. I also just played the game, but I hated being bothered by phone calls when trying to save my game, hunt for Stevie's cars or just driving around leisurely. Brucie started off as an awesome supporting character, but once he started getting bitchy about me not accepting his invitations to bro out, he sunk to the bottom of list.
I heard about the weapon spawns in Lost and Damned, but it's not really the same as in the previous games. Those games made hunting for the secret packages worth it, whereas in IV you have double the hidden items to find and all you get is an Annihilator that spawns on top of a building sporadically. After reading about that, there's no way I'm going to bother hunting down all of those birds. As for the explosive shotgun in Gay Tony, that was a separate weapon, so it doesn't really apply to what I listed. Ideally, V will feature all weapons available for purchase at the start of the game, with better ammunition (armor piercing, incendiary, etc.) being unlocked as you progress through the game. Also, it would bring back shooting ranges, featuring various challenge levels that would unlock higher ammo capacity and/or rate of fire for weapons as a reward for beating a set score.
And I should hope Lost and Damned fixed the bike handling, since your character happens to be a member of a bike gang. Then again, the chopper-style bikes in IV do handle a lot better (because they're heavier and slower) than the sporty bikes, like the NRG and PCJ…
Just thought of two more things I'd like V to include:
-Bring back diving (and maybe add in a few sights to see underwater).
-Add an mp3 player that the player can listen to while walking around.I first thought of the addition of an mp3 player (walkman) when playing through San Andreas, since I spent a lot of time walking or swimming around (usually after losing my vehicle to a body of water). Maybe Rockstar could make it an item you can purchase in the game, and expand the internet thing by having a website dedicated to the purchase of music, thereby granting money the purpose that it didn't have in IV. Of course, it would also have a radio function, so you could listen to the in-game stations and the news in between listening to your playlists. Hell, maybe just make it a smartphone to keep it simpler (since I'm sure phones will be coming back in V). I doubt it will happen, though, since it would require licensing more music, but a man can dream...
-
A mod for the PC version lets you listen to any of the radio stations while outside a car :ninja: . You can also play your own music from your computer so that's pretty much what you're talking about. Like you said I can't think of a feasible way to do that on any of the consoles.
Did San Andreas have diving? I don't remember that.
Maybe you should go work at Rockstar.
-
Yes, I'm aware that the PC version of these games have mods available and let you create your own station (I own Vice City on PC), but it would be great to have the option available for console players, too. If it proves too cumbersome/costly to implement, then the least Rockstar could do is add a radio function to the in-game cell phone, that way you wouldn't have to listen to ambient noise while walking around.
And yes, you could dive in San Andreas (you could even train to hold your breath longer). It wasn't that big a feature, but it still came in handy in a few missions, not to mention most of the collectible oysters in the game were hidden underwater…
-
I'm sure someone has my answer, but I see no reason a custom radio station/ mp3 player cannot be used with a ps3/or 360's downloaded music files… at least for this installment.
When changing stations it could just be like switching to an auxiliary channel.
And i'm sure it goes without saying that PC wouldn't need to worry about something like this.
But i've always enjoyed seeing what kind of soundtrack Rockstar can put together.
