I find the new episode to be incredibly rushed… I really don't like the idea of putting 2 chapters of Gintama into one episode... A chapter of Gintama is already worth about 1.5 chapter of One Piece, and dozens chapters of Bleach...
The best pace for the anime is really 1.5 chapter for an episode...

yeah though it was a very funny episode i would have prefered if they took their time with this arc.
I really want it to last at least four episodes but it seems it will end next week.
Anyway, it was an exellent episode and it made me laugh at least as much as when i read it.
I'm impressed how a yoshiwara maid, a night club hostess and a girl that claimed to be a man all her life can be so pure -
New chapter is out….
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2011/12/28/gintama-382-release/ -
Only Gintama celebrates New Year this way.
And I really liked the hints of another past related arc coming.
-
When they mention the Joui Past, it can only mean 2 things, either we get that or we wont…
I think the manga will continue to laze around this year and put major arcs for next when it's in it's 10th year...
Laze around is the soul of Gintama after all.... -
I'm pretty sure he was making a joke at how he knows how long everybody's wanted one but he's still never made one.
-
I just finished the Yoshiwara arc. Fantastic arc, best arc I've read in this manga yet.
-
I'm watching the anime and am up to episode 34 (the one where Shinpachi dates the chick with the cat ears). The online chat scene was ridiculously hilarious :D
-
@Thousand:
I just finished the Yoshiwara arc. Fantastic arc, best arc I've read in this manga yet.
If you liked it try the anime version it has been very well done.
Though i was really disappointed with last week episode that was the first time they censored an episode (and they didn't even use mosaics).
I think it's the first time they hide a whole part but I agree that it's hard to not censor such a scene in an anime.
It seems that even Gintama's staff have their limites (or else they surrendered under the pressure :ninja:) -
Sorachi has been pushing the limmits of what he could do with the latest chapters, as in the CRUSHING attack against Kin-san, the cameo of that male looking politician Renho (that I think that isn't a big deal), What'shername in the Renho arc, the whole premise of the harem arc.
-
The censored parts will be uncensored for the dvd release.
Just like the other times the tv broadcast was censored. -
The new OP and Ending say it way too clearly that there will be a Hiatus, desingwise both very good, but I don't like the song of the opening.
My hopes of them saying that the crap of Monday Elizabeth was a one note joke go lower and lower each day
-
Wow, I really liked the new opening. I haven't heard the ending yet.
It's sad that there will be a hiatus (well, they are going to cover the last volume in tankobon) -
Yeah, they catched up even with a slow pace, and keeping the story mostly intact they managed to do justice to the source material (And sometimes improve it), this is what Shonen Jump anime should be, not something that's 1-1, filled with reaction shots narrated battles, the 2th Foxy arc, the planet exploding in 5 minutes - 10 episodes, the Nth filler kid, the feng shui arc to kill the anime, or Tina.
-
Wow I love the new opening. Finally the two mascots are back .
Seeing in the ending how many characters this show managed to gather make me think that with that much material, this manga can just last forever just like the Simpsons. -

Seeing in the ending how many characters this show managed to gather make me think that with that much material, this manga can just last forever just like the Simpsons.I'm pretty sure Gintama will be the second Kochikame, though, in the end, it'll all depends on Sorachi whether to continue or end it…
Now, about the anime, loved the new opening, it conforms that we'd at least will get the Baragaki arc, but with it's fast pace, the anime will probably end on April... If we lucky, we'll probably even get Kintama arc, or that they will make Kintama arc as the shows ending? That's not a bad place to end now that I think about it...
-
Kintama arc would work wonders as the start of the next season, or at least the Mantama chapter (extremely cruel clifhanger, what I would do)
There are at least 9 more chapters, the white shinsengumi arc is 6 chapters, that becomes 3 episodes, and the other 3 chapters left to addapt are: Madao Millionaire, Saint Seiya Saiyan Armor Gintaman Parody and Laketoya (that would work as a charm as season ends, as it talks about the end of the anime), and these are just 1 chapter, they could extend them to become ONE episode. Those plus the end of this arc, 1 chapter most likely. 7 Chapters extending the short ones to the max, with 2 or 3 more left they shouldn't try to do the Kintama arc, specialy as they usualy do some meta-filler at this stage of the season, and they only had one filler starting and was because of the earthquake.
Kintama arc was 9 chapters, I guess that they can get 4 episodes, but it has to break appart before Mantama happens.
It's a given that It won't have any new voice work or character models, but that arc ended like a month ago, It's difficult to push out a episode that fast, it had from the end of the arc (November) to the start of March to be ready, I doubt that 3 or 4 months were enough, specialy with all the other manga arcs going out at the same time.
And it should get a new Opening, one where Gin (or Kin) gets front and center, not like this one that's very standar. The ending just needs a little gold paint to work though.
I personaly would rather to see some filler, an Otsu episode, as I think that she didn't show up this season (just a Boilharu-dressed-as-her cameo when Hasegawa was singing), and start next year seeing a non rushed Kintama arc.

Awesome chapters in sight. -
Please let there be a Yamazaki arc!

Hahaha, oh God my sides. Yamazaki chapters are always a blast. So much pure Sorachi epicness.
I have to say I still prefer ANPAN ANPAN ANPAN ANPAN ANPAN (et cetera) to Tama-San, though. Nothing can top that. -
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
-
Very good chapter and episode. Loved the both of them (especially the dragonball parody).
-
omg i loved that episode. poor vegeta
-
Even though the episode's titled "Girls loves Vegeta, and Guys likes Piccolo", the facts remains that Gintama girls are too manly to like Vegeta…
Next week, it's Bakuman time! -
Did anyone else notice that in the opening to episode 240 . . . Hasegawa is added to the scene where the girls are leaning on Gin's back? Loved it!
-
Does anyone know the name of the OST at 0:20? -
So I'm catching up with the manga.
Wtf is up with the Ryuugu island arc? It's all jumbled up and rearranged with missing chapters.

Well, I'll tell you this, most of the online reader site has the page order jumble from that point, so your best bet is to download the volumes on mangatraders.com or just read it from there if you don't have an account….

S-seriously? The whole thing? D:
And thanks for the site. It's great.
-
Why not just watch the anime version of the said story arc instead?
-
Better yet, why not just watch the whole anime after you're done with the manga ? I just caught up with it and, as people said before me, it's one of the very rare anime adaptations that surpasses the manga.
-

Because anime take forever to watch.

Really? How so?
-
The dramatic moments, the music, the "filler"/recap episodes, the fighting scenes, the voice actors (Gintoki mostly).
Anime adapatation tend to ruin those but in this case it adds more to the awesomeness that is Gintama, let's say one will just find what they expect in an anime adaptation of a great manga. -
I think that it's because they usualy take their time, and the manga is pretty verbose itself, so a panel can last for way longer than, let's say… Everything else.
-

Yeah, that's true. Taking their time was what make them that good and we had exellent scenes with only one panel (the front face of the yorozuya house) during more than 5 minutes sometimes.
But sadly, though new episodes are still very good, I noticed that they're going faster and faster and I hope that it won't change the spirit of the anime. -
Just watched all of the Benizakura Arc and it was fucking amazing :D
On that note, I've been thinking about exposing my friends at my Anime Club to Gintama (I know they'd get a kick out of it)
Problem is, I don't know what I should show them specifically, so I thought I'd ask for some opinionsI was thinking either the movie version of Benizakura, or Episode 25 (The faux-clip show/Death Note-like Sukiyaki battle)
Other suggestions are appreciated as well
-
Should I watch the anime first or read the manga first? Either way I'll do both sometime.
-
If you want to go early chapters only, go ahead, if they are gamers, the ventendo OW 2parter or the Alien/Screwdriver/MonHun arc would work. Also the half chapter of Tama making sushi, even if it kind of spoils Tama's arc, the fun and wtf factor of Gintama is pretty high on that one. If you want to go with standalones, the one where Kagura can't sleep is good.
For serious/touching arcs it's pretty hard to pick one, I think that Benisakura it's the best choice, but My favorite is the 4Kings, but it needs the build up of 300 chapters (as one of the titles say).
Whatever you do, don't let them watch episodes before the 20th before they are fans, specialy 1 and 2. The early episodes were rushed and lack the feel of the later ones, the actors weren't used to the characters, and the characters were a lot fewer, something that affects the quality and fun factor of this kind of series.

You should just show them that, it should be more than enough:
! If you wonder from what episode is that, it's only a very well done fake :ninja:
More seriously, if you want to show them sad or touching scenes I think the arc about Okita's sister is the best, if you want funny or epic scenes you have the ghosts playing uno arc. Actually you can show them any episodes from the Umibuzou arc, it's true that the first episode are messed up. -
Last week's chapter is out (along with this week's Toriko's chapter)!
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/02/02/toriko-174-gintama-386-release/
Here's the start of the true "Yoshiwara is burning arc!" lol
Tsukuyo was all around cute this chapter!

Next week:Shogun!!!
I Hope for once in this arc Shogun is not become buttmonkey and act seriously.
In my opinion,I don't quite like Shogun gag in Gintama. To me,It feel forced

It's only because the Shogun WAS forced into those silly situations… And the fact that he had such a serious expression just adds to the joke...
but yeah, I would like to see serious Shogun in a serious arc... Though, how much of this arc will relate to the current shogun is still not clear... -
Chapter 387 is out. Quite excited to see how this arc is turning out to be. With Shogun and Mimawarigumi in the fray, things could go any way. Hilarity is for certain, of course.
Speaking of next chapters, 388 seems all kinds of hilarious.
! Oh, and if you see this, kewl, there's an a small typeset error.
-
Okay, just seeing that page made laugh like crazy! Speaking of chapter 388, the translation is already out…
-
New Gintama is out:
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2012/02/14/gintama-388-release/ Finally a relatively serious shogun arc! -
Loved this chapter.
And what do you mean by finally? Baragaki arc happened just a volume ago. Then we had just as serious Kintama. And now this. Sorachi is like on fire.
Oh, wait, you mean, serious shogun arc? Then, yeah. At least, if he wakes up before all of this is over.
