Although it's martial arts, a lot of people think it's abhorrent to hit a woman. And Kenichi is more the ally of justice than he is a martial artist. So if his sense of justice won't allow him, then he just can't do it. Doesn't matter what the females think, it's just the way he has decided to live his life.
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi
-
-
I get that's how he decided to do it. But it's pretty much the only thing I dislike about Kenichi's character. Naive, optimistic, a bit fearful, honest, all other qualities I like. But that's the formula for pretty much any Shonen type B lead.
-
If Kenichi had hit women in the beginning, he would not be the ally of justice he is now. That's all I'm saying.
-
It's not a matter of justice. He's not hitting random girls or hitting girls for no reason. These are martial artists, most of them training and competing to be the best, a lot of them which are attempting to use deadly force against him. They are staking their skills against other men and they deserve to be thought of as just as much of a threat as their male counter parts.
This is why Kunia tried so hard T_T. Women know that physically they are going to be weaker than a good chunk of the male population. But the ones actively competing would like to be treated equally.
-
yeah it gets pretty annoying to hear Kenichi say that he won't hit a girl. especially as a martial artist, since basically the reason you're training is to get stronger than most boys so you'd be able to defend yourself in case you get into danger.
Kenichi should learn from Toaru peeps on gender equity:
i don't think not hitting women had anything to do with justice tbh. a girl could be a bully as well, not just guys. look at Kisara back when she was in Ragnarok, for example.
i think it's just the way he was raised, but seriously, it annoys me so much everytime kenichi refuses to do so. so i'm overjoyed (except not really) that Kenichi hit a girl (and Miu at that!) this chapter.
-
^ oh wow, that video. awesome.
reminds me that i need to watch that anime someday.here's the subbed scene:
"just because I'm weaker doesn't make you stronger, does it?"
-
Why is Kenichi learning martial arts? The answer is: to fight the evil that people pretend not to see, and to protect Miu. If that's not being an ally of justice, I don't know what is. And nothing there has anything to do with fighting females. If it was about being a supreme martial artist then he should have Hongo or Junazard as a master.
Edit: At the very least, he spars with Miu so he's not dissing female ability. And he even envies her strength…
-
@MDL ahahaha that vid totally had captions, but w/e. you should watch it, if only for the power systems itself and Accelerator.

if they're female and evil, is he still supposed to not fight them? how is he being a complete ally of justice if he's just directing his strength towards the males? what if female martial artists started bullying people, is he still supposed to go "oh wait, she's still a girl i can't hit her" ? nothing but a handicap tbh. he pisses off a lot of girls too, so it just makes things worse for him when he's fighting girls since he keeps on saying it everytime he fights a girl..
-
@Dan:
How his Kenichi's chivalry sexist? His motivation for not hitting woman obviously isn't because he feels they are incapable of dealing with it. He just doesn't like hitting females. How this could offend anyone ever is dumbfounding.
It's sexist because he's not treating a fellow martial artist equally because the martial artist happens to be female. Kenichi will go all out and face off against a male martial artist, even if Kenichi is the stronger opponent, but what happens if there's a female opponent who's stronger than Kenichi? Kenichi says he can't attack her because…because...because she's a girl...? That pisses the woman off and rightfully so! As TLC said there are plenty of female martial artists in this manga who can give Kenichi a fair fight and even kill him but Kenichi doesn't respond like a fellow martial artist should and oblige her, but instead backs away because it's a girl. I can understand picking and choosing your battles but this isn't Kenichi being picky in some cases. This is Kenichi's policy all around.
Kenichi says he won't attack because of his values? I can understand people's values are personal but WTF!? If a girl is trying to kill you and your values prevent you from protecting yourself with all you have because the person trying to kill you doesn't have a penis...that isn't chivalry, that's just plain dumb. Besides that, who here said they were offended by Kenichi's behaivor? Maybe there are people who are offended, but from what I'm reading most people think it's just stupid and sexist.
I don't condone hitting women. I have values along the lines of Kenichi but if a girl comes at me with a knife and she has the intent to kill or even seriously harm, and I know she's very well capable of doing just that I'm doing what's necessary. I'm doing what I'd do even if it were a male attacker.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Seriously, they should be in the one piece thread flaming sanji rather than kenichi lol.
Note: Also a quality I don't like about Sanji.
–-------------------------------------------------
I'm just glad he did what he had to do and hit Miu when it came to saving his and her life, even if he was dazed and didn't completely know what he was doing.

The whole beginning premise is actually a bit silly if you think about it. He wants to protect this girl who can clearly handle herself just fine. Miu hasn't really ever really taken much damage in a fight, her clothes take the brunt of it. And she really only got caught by Jenezad cause of Kenichi getting hurt…
Now I'm wondering if Kenichi will mope and say he'll quit martial arts since he hit her, if he does remember doing that. Then some stuff will happen and he'll go fight again blah blah blah.
-
Great news for all Kenichi fans; the trailer for the OVA is out; wow the quality is awesome!! Check it out XD

He wants to protect this girl who can clearly handle herself just fine.
i've always thought of the "protecting" thing as another way of saying he loves her so much that he wants to become her knight.
it's just that what he fails to realise half the time is that he has a long way to go before he truly grows powerful enough to do that. -
You know, I'm all for Kenichi wanting to protect Miu. I'm all for Kenichi wanting to defend justice, grow strong, not kill his opponents, and all that good stuff. That all falls apart though if a scenario approaches where Miu is in danger from a woman and Kenichi has to protect her, but now he can't fight at his best because he wants to stick to his code which would be kinda selfish.
I really liked the ending of this chapter because it pushes the idea that it's possible for Kenichi to break that code if the circumstances are right. If Kenichi can hit Miu then he can hit any girl in the most dire of circumstances. My whole complaint on Kenichi is more on his past actions and overall thought process, but this chapter paints a bright future. Not because he hit a woman but because he has shown he'll do anything to protect those he loves.

hummm… not really impressed. Is this an original story? Is that why there are ninjas here? What is Shou doing if this isn't the D of D?
also, the masters' introduction was kinda lame. I hope the fighting is animated well.

I called that whole quitting martial arts thing back when his boob grab failed. It'd be interesting if he gave up martial arts for a while because he felt bad about hitting Miu.

Looks pretty good, although, I never imagined Kenichi's voice would sound so…whiney.
-
Ewww. The animation looked great but the voice acting sounded terrible.
-
the hair looked unnecessarily shiny. also i'm glad they reprised their roles from the original anime.
-
I don't like some of the voices…
-
I only watched this dubbed and I liked it a lot….hopefully this OVA will last for a long time and use the same guys for it
-
Apachi's voice really annoys me lol. And Kenichi's is a lot higher than I imagined…The animation is very meh.

The intro to Hayato is the funniest thing I've seen this year. Yes, that's how you display the strength of the strongest master in the series.
The action looks okay, but I'm worried it's going to be an original story and not a manga adaptation. Seems like a huge waste, especially when the animation looks stellar.

Looks like Mangastream is doing Kenichi again starting with 465: http://mangastream.com/read/hsdk/50426666/1
-
So instead of picking series that are less known and are not getting scanlated, mangastream picks up just like with air gear another series that is popular to get more people to visit their site so they can make more monesy with ads instead of giving other lesser known series a chance.
-
To be fair, they had been doing Kenichi before but they dropped it due to the workload.
Anyway, fantastic chapter. Great action, heart-warming emotion, nice symbolism at the end with the gauntlets.
I just really like how brutal this series can be even to the females. In that respect, I think it's pretty empowering to the female heroines.
…and on the other hand, how many ass shots did we get? Geez, even I was getting distracted. I'm not the kind to think that there's anything overtly obscene with some nudity but when it's being crammed in our faces during action scenes no less, yeah it's distracting and annoying and really knocked down what could have been a perfect chapter.
-
Hmm, Miu regaining her consciousness was kind of anti-climatic. Nothing he did before worked but somehow this did? I get it but still…anti-climatic lol. And using Korui Nuki at the end...a little too obvious.
-
Gotta love that page with her big white ass shoved in our faces.
It really adds to the emotional depth of the arc.
-
Too bad for MANGASTREAM that I'm content enough reading it on Mangafox.
Better crank out some more J-PREVIEW gang.

it was a nice chapter good fight and even the fan service was not too much for me.

When Kenichi always talked about being able to "protect" Miu, it sounded odd, because she's so strong, and has such talent, he'll probably never be significantly more powerful than her, to the point where she is helpless against an enemy and then he defeats them to save her.
But this chapter showed another way that his goal of "protecting" her can go: in tag-team battles, he fights in a way that means she won't have to take serious damage. It was his gauntlets that saved her, and then he finished off Sankan before the dude could attack further. He did protect her, but it was more like equal team-mates looking out for eachother, than him being the hero who saved the helpless Miu-chan.
-
^ yeah, i'm hoping that it further develops in the tag-team direction.
as for the chapter itself, i agree that the ass shots were distracting but i still enjoyed the chapter as a whole.

I like that take on it. Equals! I bet if they did do more of a tag team stuff there'd be some awesome fights, especially when a Master get's thrown at them.
-
If awesome fights mean Miu getting her clothes cut to shreds but never getting injured I think I'll pass. There's just no real sense of danger anymore since no one gets cut except Ukita.

No that certainly does not mean that lol. She seriously ruins a lot of would be stellar action scenes for me. I feel like she was secretly trained in Kung-Ho or something. If I had more time I would redraw the last arc with Kenichi the same way the present Miu lol. Nobody would want to see his junk every panel lol.

Well, you just have the wrong mindset. Clearly the women in this series have their consciousness tied to their clothing, and the loss of them is too great a shock. Shigure is a great example, you'll notice she KO's all her opponent by stripping them of everything.
Which also makes those subordinates of Freya a bunch of semi-immortal nudist freaks.

I like tits. I like mindless action. This series has never been a deviation in quality for me.

see, this is how I feel exactly. Arakawa, the author of FMA, once said, "In the world of manga, men should be buff, and women should be va-va-voom!" and HSDK follows that sentiment to the letter.
But anyway, now that Miu is saved, and Sankan is down, it's time to see how Hongou and Jenezad are doing. I'm expecting a fight at least on the level of Apachai vs Aagard, after all this build-up.

indeed! :D

Action nudity just translates to comedy. That's fine and all, until it interferes with whatever drama they're trying to build up. Who could forget this (NSFW Miu's ass) gem?

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2012-02-27/2-polls-give-different-results-on-most-wanted-anime-sequels kenichi is 19. people want the series back so maybe we can get a full series or atleast animate all of the D of D tournament please.
-
The fanservice definitely took away from me any emotional impact these scenes could have had and any sense of danger. Distracting to say the least and strangely unnecessary. I don't know, it just seems the author was throwing the fanservice in not to attract viewers but just because he could. Like he didn't know what else to draw.
Good chapter overall though. Nice action scene and Miu is finally out but in a good twist she's not completely free of her hypnosis. That will make for more future interesting developments. Will they be able to fully trust her actions on missions? Will Kenichi be safe sleeping in the same house as her? Does she herself even know how much control Jenzad still as over her? I'm sure all is fine though.
-

To be fair, in that case, one could interpret that bit of brazen fan-service as having a point. It shows how little Jenzad (Junazard?) thinks of his disciples to the point that he just treats them as lumps of meat. But the fanservice this chapter? Yeah, no point to it. It was just distracting and really hampered a great chapter. Again, I don't think female nudity is in of itself obscene but when it's being shoved in our faces, it's obvious what the author is intending and I don't know why he intends as much when it's so clearly out of place.
-
Exactly. I don't generally care too much about fan service. But when it's out of place it just sorta kills whatever else is going on.

Mangastream just released this nicely sized omake.
Nice to see Sho again. And always gotta love Hermit.

Hmm…I don't like either of those guys lol. Ah well.

nice chapter!
! didnt see that coming. john is miu's father. lol
oops! sorry i got excited i forgot to put it in spoiler tags. my bad.

Dude, spoilers. The chapter isn't out for even an hour. I imagine there might be people caring for the plot and not only tits and fights of this manga.
