I created a list of characters I think could be in (and some that should return)

Any opinions welcome any additions I may have missed are welcome too. I like to do this when there is a new SSB game coming out lol.

You remind me of a younger, more hopeful me.

My thoughts:

! Sonic characters: no thanks. Third party characters, imo, should be restricted to heads of franchises. I'd rather see a capcom character than another sonic one.
Donkey Kong characters: Dixie is one of the more possible ones from your list given she was almost included in brawl, having actually been coded in and then dropped I believe. Along with her I wouldn't mind King K. Rool, he'd be fun.
Zelda characters: Ghirahim, imo, is a shoe-in. Demise would make a great boss character. I would still want Vaati or Midna/wolf link, but I think the time for those characters is long gone. Which is also why I don't really expect skull kid and young link.
Metroid characters: I really really want Ridley, but once they went with the boss route for him my hope for him left me forever. Personally not interested in Dark Samus. Not sure who else could make it, since I haven't played the most recent metroid game (Other M)
Fire Emblem characters: While Roy was fun, there's a lot more characters in the FE universe that would deserve a spot and would have unique fighting styles as opposed to being clones. My list: Lyn, Hector, Micaiah/Sothe, Ephraim, Lyon, Soren, Black Knight. The ones I wish but would be impossible and very unlikely: Joshua (SS), Nephenee (PoR, RD). Sadly, there haven't been FE games in a while in the US since Shadow Dragon, so not sure if any character would make it, unless a 3DS Fire Emblem came to exist with new characters.
Pokemon characters: I'd say Zoroark has good chances. Would love Mewtwo to come back. As for the Pkmn Trainer idea, I'd prefer if they did something like having a Black Belt with Hitmonchan/Hitmonlee/Hitmontop or something of the sort. Still find it unlikely.
Golden Sun char.: Yes please!! Sadly, I feel like that franchise hasn't gotten enough attention. No Golden Sun for 3DS ambassadors was a horrible sign.
Mario characters: I like Bowser Jr. and have wanted him in before, but I'm not a fan of more mario characters, except perhaps geno who is unlikely. Same applies to Paper Mario characters.
Louie: unnecessary clone. I'd say let's wait and see if Pikmin 3 pops up next E3, that might affect chances for another from that franchise.
Mii: Meh. Could happen, but color me uninterested.
Third Party characters: Huge YES PLEASE to Amaterasu. Fantastic character from a fantastic series that has been on wii, ds, and would be perfect for WiiU. But since Ammy is capcom, the more likely result wouldn't be as pleasant. Same goes for megaman … capcom has been horrible to megaman recently, so not sure if they'd allow for it. Goemon has been very obscure for a while. Banjo is no longer nintendo ...
! Things you didn't think of:
Kid Icarus franchise: That dude with the huge sword, maybe Medusa depending on how they handle her size as a villain. Sora is in charge of the new kid icarus, they're bound to include stuff about it in their next game.
Square Enix: Talk about sora ... I'd love Sora! But this is unlikely.

Ridley - no. Too big. i kno it's not always a problem but i'm one of the minority who don't think ridley will make it
Roy - i say as a support but otherwise he's to similar to marth
Mewtwo - i agree. Mewtwo never should have been removed.
Banjo Kazooie - i'd love it but it's owned by microsoft now :(
Isaac or Matthew - yes. I personally say isaac over matthew but either are good.
Garet or Tyrel - i wouldn't mind but i only see one Golden sun rep happening

Masked Link - I would say yes however there are already two different links although it would be cool.
Paper Mario - It could or couldn't happen. It would be good but i wouldn't mind if it wasn't

Bomberman - Maybe. I wanted him for brawl so he's definatley got a shot (in my books)

Mii - yes. Especially if sakurai want's to focus on customization

! Little mac, saki, lyn, samurai Goroh and maybe waluigi and starfy. assists who have upgraded to playable
Toon Zelda/Tetra & vaati to counter zelda/shiek and ganon respectively (instead of making a skyward sword style shiek they should use impa)
I think an original character for the smash series would be nice
Adam malkovich - one of the only important metroid characters who would be easy to fit in as playable.
Krystal - she really should of been in the last one.
Michia a non-swords fire emblem player? Yes i think it would make a good change
The masked kid (claus) - would make a more original mother character

I think sakurai should do customizable movesets for each character and let people decide what 4 specials and final smah they should have

As for Paper Mario, logically, he wouldn't be… but as a quick character to stuff the game using low development ressources, he could be (ena it's still another version of Mario).

One of the most pleasing things Sakurai and his team could do for the game imo is revamp the clones, especially Ganondorf.

They should really add in Black Shadow, and give him Ganondorf's clone moveset, and then they can do whatever they want with Ganondorf. Give him a sword or something crazy. It makes so much sense, especially considering Black Shadow and Captain Falcon are from the same game.

Cause… i like playing clone Ganondorf a lot. I don't think they should just get rid of him. He sucks, but i like him. But i do want Ganondorf to have cool new moves.

Also Paper Mario would be one of the smartest characters they could add. Paper Mario games are very popular, and a stage would have some great songs (paper mario songs are so good). Mario could glide like Pit, Meta Knight and Charizard by turning into a paper airplane.... when he lands and swims on water he can be a paper boat... his specials... omg so many good choices!!! Fire hammer, hammer throw, spin hammer, super jump, butt pound... the list goes on so much more my friends.

Easily, the character with the most potential.

Koopling: One set of animation, but 7 skins (8 if you feel the need to have that upstart Bowser Jr in there) So you can have everyone's favorite and not leave any out, but save on having to make separate movesets for 7/8 characters. Would also make for a cool challenge event not unlike the Metals in Brawl.

The bolded characters are 3rd party, and out of them, Megaman is the only one I support at all.
Girahim, Demise - more Zelda characters shouldn't be the main focus of a fourth smash bros. These guys are badass, but I don't think they need a slot.

Ridley - oh god yes yess yessss
Roy - are people still butthurt about his removal? he's done. There'll be a new Lord to go along side Ike and Marth.
Mewtwo - Unfortunately, Japan doesn't still have a raging nostalgia-boner for the original Pokemon games. But I would like to see Mewtwo again…
Golden Sun Characters - only Isaac.
Bowser Jr - I'm one of the few who hates all of Bowser's offspring. Koopalings, Baby Bowser, fuck 'em all.
pokemon trainer 2 - a lot more work just so that people can play as their favorite generation's starters? not worth the effort.
captain louie - another straight-up clone.
skull kid - not interested in more one-shot villains for an already fully represented series.
Paper Mario - I guess Mario himself would be okay, but certainly none of the others.
Geno - I love Geno, but every time I think about it I realize how unlikely and inappropriate he would be. a memory of a long-gone partnership, only dredged up once in the GBA years as a throwaway cameo... :(
Mii - I don't want this, and would never use them, but I can see it happening.

Andy/That main guy from the newest one/whoever is most important in Battalion Wars: Would be kinda hard to represent these games I think. But they should be there.
Mii: This one's a given. I'll be very very surprised if we don't see it included.
Ghiraham: A new Zelda baddie which isn't Ganondorf. Normally you could say this would be instead of him but nah. Then again Vaati was never added so shrugs
Something from pokemon gen 5. Zoroark is probably most likely. Depending on when game is due to come out you can replace this with Gen 6.
Lil Mac from Punch-Out. Nuff said, shoulda been in Brawl.
Tom Nook from Animal Crossing. I can agree with that.
Isaac: Hopefully the DS rekindled some want for these chars to be in.
New Fire Emblem Lord: Roy is gone. No need for him. Personally I would drop Ike too. Marth stays for being Marth. Add whoever is the new lord. Or Lyn would be nice too.
Shulk: Cus Xenoblade is awesome. hmmmm. A lot of sword fighters here now tho.

I hope if we can have third party then the requirement is that they're third party exclusives. When was the last time we saw Snake on a Nintendo console? Twin Snakes? Well I suppose 3's remake is soon too. Exclusive wise it's going all the way back to the nes days. Sonic…hmmm. I can see the idea since it's all for the likes of Mario and Sonic Olypmics. Still not really keen on him.

A Phoenix Wright/Edgeworth Trophy assist is a Must-Have. Would love to see Layton as a playable character too.

Fire Emblem 3DS coming out in April in Japan. I believe it's a new universe too, so if it's received enthusiastically I'd say the new character could be the lord from that game. Frankly, I still want Lyn.

I had not thought about Lil Mac, completely forgot there was a recent reboot of the franchise. Definitely possible.
Also, can't believe I forgot to mention Fawful would be a sweet, yet unlikely addition.

You can't not have the main three Zelda/Link/Ganondorf, so obvioulsy they stay. And any more than them just gets too much zelda. THere are a crap load of nintendo games, can' thave half the cast be zelda.

I could definitely see Ghirahim being added, and Groose making it in as an assist trophy. But I can't see Ganondorf or Zelda ever being removed or replaced. The complete Triforce is here to stay.

One potential neat little bonus would be Ganondorf getting a design shift. Either to the oil-painting style of Skyward Sword to match Link, or perhaps instead his cel-shading appearance from Wind Waker to match Toon Link.

I wonder if Zelda herself would remain as her combat-capable Twilight Princess incarnation, or be updated to her Skyward Sword persona. My fanboy-of-her side says 'YES YES YES' but my gamer side is skeptical of how she'd play effectively. Maybe command a squadron of Loftwings for her Final Smash?

Well there is one thing to consider. This game has not even gotten started in development yet.

Who knows, it might release very close to the NEXT Wii U Zelda, and thus we dont' get any Skyward Sword characters, but instead get the Wii U ones.

Link/Zelda/Ganondorf won't move out the Smash series. I just wish they'll completely declone Ganondorf. He has so much possible moves to build an original moveset it's painful to see him as a clone. Make him use his trademark magic volleyball attack or his other magic attacks, use his trident (or a sword … but the series is already crowded with swordmen), maybe make him glide,... but declone it!!

For the other characters, I don't really want two version of Link since it's kinda pointless but, if they declone Toon Link, why not. I'd still choose an original character over him.
I wouldn't be against Sheik moveset being separated from Zelda and given to Impa since she's been in the series since ages and her last incarnation can perfectly use the same moves. Everybody use Sheik or Zelda, not both so it's kinda pointless to have them as one character and Sheik only appears in one game. Plus, it would unlock the down+b move for each character.

For a completely new slot, Vaati or Tingle have a chance.

• Vaati is the only other bad guy besides Ganondorf who appears in more than one game.
• Tingle is THE secondary character of the Zelda series and has got 3 games on his own. And he's amazing. And he has an awesome potential for moveset. My personal take: a money centric moveset. He has a rupee counter over his emblem and gain rupees by dealing damage. The effect of his B moves depends on how much he spend rupees to use them (while charging). He could hire bodyguards (stronger ones come with more rupees), use balloons (number depends on rupees), shoot rupees (green, blue or red),...

I doubt there is much development left on Kid Icarus, and I believe at least planning has begun for the next SSB… however a list of everyone new? As completely locked down SSBB was about information leaks I doubt all this would surface this soon.

However, most of these characters are probably going to make it in anyway... K. Rool? Of course. We need more villains. Ghirahim? More villains. Crystal? We need another clo- female.

Kid Icarus comes out in Japan March 22. Sakurai won't start development of ssb4 until he finishes Kid Icarus. Besides, has a smash bros "leak" every been correct? Especially one two or three years before the game comes out? It isn't legit.

that said, it's also got some stupid choices. King Hippo? Palutena? Blue Slime? Well, maybe if Palutena demonstrates some more abilities in the Kid Icarus game, then maybe…

Although clearly fake, imo, I give them credit for most characters actually being good options. I had not considered Saki, seeing how Sin and Punishment for the Wii didn't seem to make that huge an impact, but perhaps it did better in japan or they'll be making a new one.
