VS.
shishio sat on the ground with his pipe in his hand. onizuka entered opposite him mounted on his bike. he rode his bike to the wall and parked it there. onizuka cracked his knuckles '' you should back out now before you get hurt''
shishio just looked and said '' your pathetic, a true warrior never backs out even if facing death''
onizuka looked shocked at this response. but quickly held up his fist in rage and his face turned to a somewhat menacing ugly face and shouted ''fine then i'll show you what i can do''
shishio smirked ''i hope so otherwise you won't be worth my time one bit''
shishio put his pipe aside, stood up and unsheathed his sword. he began calmly walking towards onizuka. onizuka turned away from shishio and a little quicker and less calm then shishio he walked towards his bike.
Ekichi Onizuka Vs. Makoto Shishio

Flaming samurai. FLAMING SAMURAI!!! My vote goes to Shishio.
-
Wow, I'm the first guy to vote for Onizuka.
You did a good job with Onizuka, lalala. I don't know everything about the guy, but I think you got him down perfectly.
-
I don't really watch either anime. Shishio has a sword, so he gets my vote.
-
This topic should be, GTO v. Shishio.
…
Pathetic, though. Flamin' Battousai wins faster than one can say, Homuradama! Did I spell that correctly?

Hold on, I don't think Shishio is a Battousai…..
-
no he isn't. battousi was kenshins title. shishio is a manslayer but im not sure if his title was ever mentioned.
-
Neither seen any of those anime but Shishio gets my vote b/c of his sword.
-
Shishio is a hitokiri, yes. Battousai is Kenshin's title.
-
Hitokiri is an assassin, if I am not mistaken. That could be applied to almost all the antagonists in the series, with the exception of the Oniwaban.
But Shishio was exceptional in that he was Kenshin's successor, the new Battousai. The Anime made a point of that. ~.~;
-
Kenshin was called Battousai because of his mastery of the battoujutsu. I don't think Shishio was known for that at all..

A battousai is someone trained in the Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū. (I know there is a battojutsu, I'm just talking about the series.)
Shishio was not trained in the Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū.

Shishio was not trained in the Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū.
The title of those who were proficient in the Hiten Mitsurugi was Hiko! Every master of the style became a Hiko, excluding Kenshin, who didn't master the technique until the Kyoto Arc, and didn't want the title. Notice that he didn't wear Hiko's massive mantle, either.
Also, "Battousai" implies battoujutsu, but it doesn't mean mastery of it. The word translates to man-slayer, but I tried to break it down, and all I have is "felling" for battou, which means "sai" equates to man or person somehow. I take Battousai as having a double meaning, like virtually every other mangaka in existence does with character names/titles.
Furthermore, Kenshin's title is "Hitokiri Battousai" as a whole. We don't call "Pirate King" Roger "King", or "Pirate Hunter" Zoro "Hunter" Zoro, do we?
Battousai is generally acceptable short for this (because Hitokiri Battousai is a mouthful), but that's not his whole title. Shishio is the "successor to the Battousai", which means he became the new Battousai.
I didn't call Shishio Hitokiri or Hitokiri Battousai because those names are not completely correct.

Hitokiri is manslayer.

hitokiri
(n) assassination -
I agree with that, but you said that Battosai translates as manslayer.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battousai
Battou (抜刀) literally means "sword drawing" and sai (斎) is a suffix added to pen names or professional working names.
-
"Assassination" is another term for "man-slaying" is it not?
Hito - person
kiri - cut/slice/etc.In One Piece, T-Bone's title was "funagiri." Translated as Ship-Cutter or Ship Butcher (as stephen translated).
-
Voted crazy bandage guy, the blond looked to chavtastic.
-
I agree with that, but you said that Battosai translates as manslayer.
Contextually phrased, and with the support of all serious Kenshin websites (BEFORE THEY GOSH DARN IMPLODED INTO OBLIVION, LEAVING ME WITHOUT SOLID BACKING), it is man-slayer, though how I do not know. Sorry.
Also, don't cite Wikipedia; it's hideously unreliable. There's a certain issue I am embarassed to bring up here regarding that, but please trust me (FMA); use a Google website instead. :/
@Cap'n:

Hito - person
kiri - cut/slice/etc.Right, but the name, intentionally repetitive, implying a nickname: allegedly, it's "Man Slaying Assassin", though if we take the whole name, we end up with "the professional who draws a sword and cuts"?

Wow Im surprised Onizuka is loseing, I guess I underestemated how popular Rourouni Kenshin is
-
I also thought Onizuka was going to win. This is very surprising.

Well, the manga is translated in a horrible manner (or at least, what I read). People gave it good reviews, but from the volume I had, it looked like the translators couldn't decided between English or Chinese!
-
I saw a few episodes of the dubed and I didnt see anything special but maybe ill try the subed and see what all the fuss is about, but my god I love GTO it is serously one of the best animes ever.
-
Never cared for Shishio too much. Cool, but not really my stle. Onizuka is the man.

I have all of the Kenshin manga so far, and I don't think I've seen one Chinese word.
What's this…"Battousai" is only Kenshin. If I pull off a hideously fast step-in and rape you with body shots, then I'll be called "the new Tyson." That doesn't meant it's a title, just a saying, when you're the "new [something]." This might have been your point, but no, you can't actually call Shishio a Battousai or just Battousai.
-
If you were talking about Kenshin's translation, then no, Kenshin is probably Viz's best translation job. It's amazing.
As for GTO, I wouldn't know.
-
battoujyutu= art of drawing the sword
battouzai= someone who can do the abovein american equivalent it would be a "quick draw" or something like that. anyone can be a battouzai if they can do a quick draw.
onizuka got my vote.

Since Shishio is owning Oniizuka shouldn't the poll be closed?

This post is deleted!

battousai is stated by kenshin in vol.2 to be the title that is bestowed on a person who has mastered everything about battojutsus in other words a true master of that before mentioned move which as far as we know shishio hasnt perfected thus he cant really be called battousai,
nor is he ever refered to as the new battousai its just mentioned that hes the hittokiri that replaced kenshin.
EDIT oh yeah and i vote for Shishio despite that i adore Onizuka.

Except for that, but mabye you are correct about the rest. I haven't read the Viz version.
-
Wow. Still, I'd still have to say their translation job is pretty good. That is a pretty bad error, though.
Kenshin fans should be up in arms about this
That made me laugh, though.
-
onizuka ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fine by me.

No, GTO's translation. I have no idea if what I read was an official translation or not, but it was from a library, had poor binding, and was absolute trash.

onizuka continued to walk quickly towards his bike. shishio broke into a run to stop him from reaching it. but it was in vain, onizuka jumped on his bike put on his helmet and charged straight at shishio. shishio stepped to the side and onizuka turned his bike hitting shishio in the leg to make him fall and somewhat cripple him. he rode away and come back again, this time shishio was ready. but so was onizuka. he took off his helmet and threw it at shishio but shishio cut straight through the center and fell to the sides. he ran to the side of onizuka and went for a decapitation but onizuka leaned back and avoided it. he rode away and shishio hurled his sword at onizuka. onizuka saw it was going to fall short so he stopped to pick it up. it did indeed fall short, but not short enough. it stuck right into the engine causing an explosion. several more little explosions sent him bouncing around and one final large one sent him rocketing through the same hole ichigo went through.
(in space)
onizuka stopped moving and just suspended there….but he wasn't alone.
ichigo sighed ''howed you get up here''
onizuka sighed ''my bike exploded, you''
ichigo sighed again ''i got hit by an abnormally powerful punch''(earth). shishio walked over and sheathed his sword
