Nintendo intend to capture the Hardcore people?
Funnily enough I actually consider the people playing No More Heroes, Okami and Little King's Story way more 'Hardcore' than the ones playing generic shooting game number 900

Really? I thought that was labelled IV on the VC? Weird.
Anywho. I decided to dig out my old 64 since you can get games for next to nothing these days. Anyone got any recommendations for some obscure games? (got most of the ones everyone had)
I never played it myself, but I've read that Body Harvest is the true precursor to GTA 3.
It was made by DMA Design and had a Sci-Fi theme.

I wouldn't consider anyone playing No More Heroes any more or less hardcore than if they were playing pretty much any other sandbox or hack and slash.

Not all hardcore gamers get off playing just shooters.
I cant even really think of much outside of CoD and Halo that would particularly get classed as generic either…
well i'm excited if a new wii comes out. been using someone elses lately since mine don't read discs anymore.
dont' want to buy a new Wii, will just buy the NEW wii instead.

I'm going to have to see what this bad boy can do before I scream at it to take my money. Poor effort though Nintendo. How long was this? 5 years?
I'm going to have to see what this bad boy can do before I scream at it to take my money. Poor effort though Nintendo. How long was this? 5 years?
Why do you say that?
I think it's pretty ballsy of Nintendo to do something like this, while Sony and Microsoft are just trying to revitalize their systems with motion-sensor tech, and seem to be focused on extending the current generation, rather than moving forward. Nintendo could really get the drop on Sony and Microsoft this time.
and I must say, I will of course buy whatever Nintendo tells me to buy, because I am a blind sheep of a fanboy. >_>

They shot themselves in the foot by making a casual gamer friendly system that also lack HD graphics so this is their way of making it up to some.
Why do you say that?
5 years isn't really a great run for any console. That's what they get for using ridiculously outdated hardware.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. We barely know that this system will exist - much less it's processing power. I won't be making blind assumptions based on bugger all than a strong rumour. Nintendo will be entering a market that Sony and Microsoft will have had the lead on for some time. Nintendo's stuff has a name for it these days as more of a toy and only for kids. It'll be hard to shake that.

Have fun on your Virtual Boy.

Well I screwd up two times in a row in terms of consoles, last gen I bought an Xbox because of Jet Grind Radio Future, since I loved the first on on Dreamcast, then no good games or atleast of my taste came out so I sold it and went back to Sony and got a PS2, this time I did the same wthing with WII I bought the damn consola because of SSB and the One Piece game and now Im completty annoyed with it and I am probably going to sell it and buy a PS3, next gen unless I get some good games from Ninendo here in Europe and when I say good I say to my tastes, Beat em ups and Rpgs I might buy it if not Im going for wtv Sony puts out at the time.
Handheld wise I love Nintendo and I don't give a crap about PSP, the games on Nintendo handhelds are generally better, RPG/Strategy wise atleast.

??? I wouldn't call it bad, either. That's like the average. And it would be 6 years before it comes out, because it certainly isn't launching this year.

Oh, I bet that once microsoft and sony release their new gen system, they'll be more powerful for sure, and will continue to hold the hard core market. But I meant that the simple fact that Nintendo might announce a new system this summer, which would put them ahead of the crowd unless the other two do the same. And if the Wii 2 is the first next gen system out, it will just sell a bunch by default. see: xbox 360 coming out a year ahead of the Wii and PS3.

touche.

Why not? The 360 was announced at an E3 and released the following holiday. It's happened before.
Not all hardcore gamers get off playing just shooters.
Lol, it's Cyber Robin. He thinks every HD game is a generic shooting game number 900.
Big Bad Lith the problem here is that in a month Xbox and PS3 probably released 3/4 games that a person will like, as for Wii that might happen in a year, I'm not an hardcore gamer(well Im kinda of an RPG fanactic and I play shitloads of them and spend a lot of hours on it) but I want games that I actually want to play, I don't mind Wii fun factor that's why I bought it and I had fun at start after half an year I was tired of it.
The only people that use it now are my two young cousins when they come to my house, they play bowling on Wii sports lol.
Wii sold more at start but disapointed after some time, Xbox and PS3 are still going strong and putting up good games, I can't count the times I see an awesome game and then at the end only on XBOX360 and PS3 and I am like "AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW".
I've been thinking about it latelly and Im probably really going to ebay mine, with the first One Piece game , Super Smash Bros and FF Crystal Chronicles(urgh), probably will get a good price for it lol.
This comes from someone who usually keeps consoles, I still have all gameboys, mastersystem, megadrive, nes, PSX, PS2 and Dreamcast kept, Xbox(the first) and Wii really disapointed me to the point of wanting to sell them.
5 years isn't really a great run for any console. That's what they get for using ridiculously outdated hardware.
You mean like last time round when they released a console that used cutting edge hardware which lasted…five years.
Or the time before that when they released a console that used cutting edge hardware which lasted...five years.
Or the time before that when they were having trouble getting the super advanced next gen console out the door and had to extend the life of their ageing but insanely successful console and fend off the next gen brigade, making their system a virtual dinosaur at the grand old age of...six years.

The term hardcore is so confusing. It can mean
A) strictly 360/PS3-only games that focus on mindless gore, shooting, slashing or all of the above, with cursing and sex and all that shit thrown in
B) big-name games from huge franchises like GTA, Mario, Zelda, MGS, Halo, COD, Metroid, Half-life, Battlefield, GOW, GEOW, Mass Effect, etc.
C) PC-only games.
Anyway, you better hope you sell that Wii fast, since the price gon' drop to about $150
In other news, but you guys probably already read this:

That's what we've been discussing?
Why am I always so goddamn late.
Well, whatever. Least I tried.
Nintendo Wii 2?
Let's go! Let's go!
So right now, the rumours are:
-HD
-Most sources say at least as powerful as ps360, some sources say more, some not sure(so it could be less, as, or more powerful. This is gaming journalism)
-1080p capable
-wii bc
-E3 reveal
-controller has built in hd touchscreen
-Targeting "hardcore gamers"
And there are instantly so many rumours, coming from so many high profile sources that it has the smell of nintendo trying to beat the drums in anticipation of E3.
If it has Wii playback would that also include Cube playback? Cus that would be pretty damn awesome.
Technically, I don't see why not. The wii is just an upclocked gc at the end of the day.
If you can trade your old Wii to drop a little the price of the next one I'm in for instant buy.
If it has Wii playback would that also include Cube playback? Cus that would be pretty damn awesome.
I wouldn't count that.
I could just easily compare how the GameBoy Advance/Nintendo DS/Nintendo 3DS worked out.
The Nintendo Wii could play Gamecube games and the Nintendo DS could play (and even link) with the GameBoy Advance.
Nintendo DS 2.0 comes out and it doesn't play GBA games anymore, it cut it out. I can totally see Nintendo Wii 2.0 doing the same.
In this case however, there is no hardware cost or ergonomic cost to think over. If they support wii in hardware, they have the ability to support GC. Might be a different case if it's only software emulation though. Even there, it should be a lot less work then it traditionally has been.
We'll see.
I mean, I would love to see GameCube games playable on Nintendo Wii 2.0 (I'd like to be able to still play Melee, SA2:B, and OP:GB without getting my actual GC out) but I think Sony and Nintendo (those two only) are like, "Why bother with backwards compatibility? We can just resell/remake games from the previous console and resale the older games on PlayStation Network/Virtual Console."
Bastards.
Unsure why you're leaving MS out there. I still can't play Panzer Dragoon Orta on their 360 BC. Unless you just mean they don't bother thinking about their first gen games at all.
Oh, I know that every Xbox game doesn't work on the 360.
Trust me.
I CAPCOM VS. SNK 2 know.
Sigh… at least you can play 99% of the games.
Go USA!
I already play Wii games in 1080 on my comp. I wonder if this new console will actully render Wii games at a higher resolution or just keep the native rez.
I am very interested in seeing what Nintendo comes up with. Sony and Microsoft's consoles are basically watered down PC's but Nintendo seems to try to shake things up every once in a while. There was a rumor that nintendos new console would be modular so it would be upgradeable. If this is true my respect for Nintendo will go through the roof.

Another piece of the puzzle from the most respected gaming magazine in the UK.
I hope Skyward Sword isnt delayed as a launch game like TP…
but im still excited!
I kind of hate it when a new console comes out. It makes the hardware I have feel so obsolete. I bought a Wii in 2007 and I have only bought about 5 games for it. The only truly good game I have for it is Twilight Princess. I keep telling myself that as long as I get Skyward Sword, it will be worth it. I will probably end up buying the Wii 2.0 also.
It makes the hardware I have feel so obsolete.
All the consoles should be obsolete at this point. Its just especially bad with the Wii. If my 3 year old laptop can emulate a "modern" console almost perfectly then that system is past the point of no return.
I have more games for the Wii than I do for any of my other consoles, including DS and PSP (where my brother could just DL all the games he wants lol)…
I could prob buy the new console by selling my wii and the games I dont play much (thats only if the new console is backwards compatable).
I hope it'll be able to play GC games as well (I have WW,TP, RE4 and FE:RD) so that I'd atleast be able to replay them.

well even though were all in rumor land, it supposed to be able to play gc and wii games
but if it were backwards compatable with wii, don't see why they would not make it gc as well. only reason 3ds is not compatable with gb advance, or the ds was not compatable with gameboy and so on, is because the huge change in game cartridge. if the gameboy games and gameboy advance games were the same size as ds games then it will be backwards compat with all of them.
and seeing how gc is disc based, and not a bigger disc in physical size, i don't see why if they have a disc slot it would not be compatable. nintendo prides itself in being BC

Now, not all of those are great, but a lot are. The games are there if people really want them, it's just this "wii has no games" meme has spread far and wide and become like a self fufilling prophecy, at least going by the dire sales of even some of the best wii games.
hmmm. I got Disaster for someone on here but they changed their mind. Never ever been on it. I should give it a try.

its just like how people say the gamecube sucks
the gamecube is by far the best system of last gen. so many AMAZING games on that system not found on any others
of course i'm not a fps fan, so take that how you will. Only thing gamecube missed a bit on was a couple rpgs, though they has some great ones too.
I hope Last Story is released internationally… I really liked the previews for that game. Has anyone tried it?
Interesting if true: Wii 2
Project Cafe eh. Looks like Gamecube games may still be a possibility.

just ignore, any RUMOR regarding nintendo systems specs are obviously made up
EVERY single time a nintendo console is released it takes after it's released before we get any specs, and thats from someone taking it apart and doing his best job of comparing and guessing. So why would all of a sudden nintendo have their specs available?

Isn't 512MBs of RAM kinda bad?
Isn't 512MBs of RAM kinda bad?
Yeah but if this does turns out to be the true specs, if even the system itself is confirmed, Nintendo will probably allow you to use SD cards right off the bat like the 3DS rather than updating it like they did with the wii. I say this because Nintendo doesn't seem to want to sell another system with more GBs of space for a different price which is why the DSi, 3DS and wii all support SD cards.
if the thing about controllers having screens is true, then there is absolutely NO REASON for them to not make a new Four Swords Adventures.
That game kicked so much ass, but only if you had 4 people and 4 GBAs and 4 connector cables. and you can imagine how often that scenario came up…

If you are responding to the RAM question I think you might be confusing RAM with storage space.
The card itself is nothing amazing but better than any current gen consoles. But I really would withhold any major judgments until we are certain of the specs. Much of what is floating around now may be hyperbole or rumors.
The screen integrated into the controller sounds like something Nintendo could pull off though.
Isn't 512MBs of RAM kinda bad?
Not necessarily. Consoles don't need as much ram as computers. Plus it hasn't been said whether this is shared ram, or just system ram with video having it's own allocation, nor what type of ram is being used, which would also make a big difference.
360 uses 512mb of ram (shared with GPU).
