For a first episode it wasn't so bad, but i couldn't really enjoy it because of the ugly character designs. At least the monsters look good. I'm going to watch a couple more episodes and see if i can get used to it.
Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL

The hair of the next Yuugiou protagonist

Addicted to the ending theme music.
I think its something that could've been more awesome as an Opening.

This was genious… the sad part is that it's quite possible, haha, joking.

this series really has potential, i'm waiting for galaxy-eyes photon dragon they announced
-
Wow, they brought back Monster Reborn and tribute summoning. Never thought I'd see the day.
I really liked the music that played during the duel (or whole episode, I guess). Yuma was less annoying since he wasn't throwing out his catchphrase every few minutes this time. Ryoga was a rather graceful loser, all things considered. I do hope that they're able to keep at least this level of animation up, because in that department ZeXal is much more lively than 90% of 5D's.
I can see the ''only Numbers can defeat Numbers'' rule get very restrictive very quickly, though.
-
Hmm, so it's already out ?
Tell us this before we consider the series : is the main character a directionless twat like some other protagonist we all know and hate ?
@ Cross: that seems realy interesting.
But what is this about the Numbers, is this setting us up for another "one single deck type for the main character for the whole season" type of dilema ?
-
Well, Yuma's one of those excitable, reckless kid heroes. He's apparently notorious for being a constant screw-up. For motivations, well, it's really too early for the show to go into his motivations aside from pure bravado, but his most precious item is a pendant his travelling parents gave him, so I imagine that'll factor in at some point.
And unlike all the other Yu-Gi-Oh protagonists he actually has other family members who are around and actually appear.

Yuuma's a refreshing protagonist. He's a typical reckless shonen protagonist but he's not a prodigy but a total loser. He only wins because of the ancient spirit giving him advice. The best part is how he seems to realize his own weakness yet resolves to fight on despite being fully aware of them. And like Crossword said, he seems to be overprotective of things precious to him. Of course whether the writers can walk the walk with his character remains to be seen but I have faith in them.

Numbers are basically a special archetype which in-story represent the fragmented memory of Astral, a spirit being that Yuma encounters. While they can apparently be attacked for Life Point damage, they can't be destroyed unless it's by battling with another Number monster. Apparently Yuma keeps them after winning the duel (even though his signature Number monster, Aspiring Emperor Hope, is shown clashing with the one he just won, Revise Dragon, in the opening sequence, so I imagine he might lose some of them at some point). There are supposedly ninety-nine in total, so I imagine other characters will receive some too.

Reminds me of Judai, actualy :P

Reminds me of Judai, actualy :P
Judai was a duelling prodigy who could go toe to toe with the top elite in the very beginning. Just because his character sucked or his opponents were stupid doesn't change the fact he was beating the elite. Yuma, not so much.
-
Stil, using the exact same cards the same way in every duel has to count for something :P
-
Even though I already knew about the Numbers plot from the manga, watching it in the show really bothered me because as a competitive duelist I know how much this will fuck with little kids and stupid people by teaching them the wrong rules.
This is Duelist Kingdom all over again.
-
I haven't read the manga (yet….?) but I want to know what's happened that broke any rules of the game? The order of spell seed, missing chain?
So far I haven't seen any problems with this battle. (i might be missing something but i wont judge the excel cards and their rules yet) -
Well, I guess I said it wrong it's not rules but rather the whole Numbers cannot be destroyed except by Numbers dealio. I know that I'm going to hear about that next time I run over somebody's Revise dragon with Gaia Knight.
-
My internet is back. I will work on ZeXal now. Will try to be caught up by episode 2-3.
-
is #2 out yet subbed?
-
One thing I hope happens in this series is deck evolution. Since Yuma is starting out with a wanky starter deck (I mean, he runs Goblin Out of the Frying Pan! WTF) I look forward to seeing his progress through the series as he becomes a better duelist.

Thanks a lot, Chopperrules!
-
Hm? Why did Yuma have to play Ganbara Knight in attack mode? Do the overlay monsters need to be in the same position to summon an Exceed?
-
can someone upload on youtube dailymotion doesnt work on ipod and im getting new computer in a month
-
is episode 3 out yet subbed? I acually think i might like this series
-
Yes, check out animecrazy. I thought it was quite a weak episode though Astral's antics were hilarious.
-
Ah man I gotta catch up with this series… I've watched the first episode, but got really busy after that
-
It's been up on Chopperrules's dailymotion channel since the weekend. It was basically an episode of early Rockman.EXE.
This week's episode was done by that Korean guy behind that awesome Yusei vs. Aporia episode. The caps look really, really good.
-
I'm enjoying Yugioh NT Warrior so far. I'm still not crazy about the Exceed monsters as cards, but how they flow in the show is working well. I think this series has a lot of potential, and I like how the duels work with the scouters. I'll stick to this series as the subbed episodes come out for sure.
Edit: Also, I love that the protagonist actually sucks as opposed to starting off as some amazing duelist. Leaves room for good character development
-
Hey Yuma's got nothing on Megaman from Rockman.exe. That guy was awesome and adorable =D. Netto was always just the "second" main character for me, except when something would happen to Megaman…
-
Sorry, forgot to post the episode here:

I haven't watched Zexal yet (I haven't really watched 5D's yet, I'm not going to watch Zexal if I haven't watched 5D's) but I have seen Y Ruler of Time's reaction shots video. I'd have to say I most agree with the statement that this new series almost feels like a parody of the Yugioh franchise, that seems rather spot on. Except it's not a parody it was made by Konami. I was also sad when Y said that he will watch any episode of Yugioh that Konami puts out. That's kind of sad.
